Metal

I have just recently gotten into Mastodon but really other than that most of my likes come from "back in the day"..

Pantera
Alice in Chains
Sabbath
(old) Metallica
Soundgarden
Rage
Slayer
Body Count
Down
Deathklok
GWAR

ETC

So are there any newer metal band I am missing out on?? I like some of Cage the Elephants heavier stuff too..

Sixx 12-29-2012 10:05 AM

If you like AC/DC (which I have no idea if you do), you should check out Airbourne.

Kris P Lettus 12-29-2012 10:08 AM

Never really been a big AC/DC fan.. I respect them as a musical act and they have some timeless songs but they are not near the top of my list..

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-29-2012 10:27 AM

If you have pair of balls you will like the following bands:

Converge
Pig Destroyer
Meshuggah

The Destroyer 12-29-2012 10:32 AM

Based on the stuff already listed I'd wager he'll hate all three of them.

El Vaquero de Infierno 12-29-2012 10:42 AM

Then is "man card" is permanently rescinded.

The Condor 12-29-2012 01:50 PM

How is Danzig not on your list? One of the best of metal's golden era.

The Condor 12-29-2012 01:50 PM

Sabaton is fantastic, and not the growling incoherent type of metal. Check them out, they will get your blood pumping. Also, if you want to have fun with your metal, check out Powerglove. They do metal versions of 80's and 90's nintendo games and even do a sweet rendition of the Power Rangers theme. Saw both live and they were awesome. Another band, if you're into the newer brand of American metal, is Skeletonwitch. They opened for GWAR once when I saw them and I liked these guys enough to see them opening for Danzig a few months later.

drave 12-29-2012 03:12 PM

Machine Head is always good.

If you like Dethklok, you should check out Brendon Small's solo album, Galaktikon. It's kinda like Dethklok - growling.

drave 12-29-2012 03:13 PM

Type O Negative
Nevermore
Danzig

Try those out.

Kris P Lettus 12-29-2012 06:28 PM

I like Danzig but hate Glen Danzig as a person.. Misfits are aiight too..

The Condor 12-29-2012 07:42 PM

Danzig is an angry midget, but essentially thats the essensce of his greatness. His Napoleon complex(and philiosophy) make for great music.

Kris P Lettus 12-29-2012 07:53 PM

loved when that fat bald guy ko'ed him

dronepool 12-29-2012 09:11 PM

Yeah, I don't really care for the person, don't keep up with news.. ect but I like the Misfits and really like the first 3 or 4 Danzig albums.

Fignuts 12-30-2012 02:34 AM

I like Motorhead.

After Chuck Biscuits and Johnny Christ left Danzig he went through a very crappy NiN phase. He's got some of the old magic back with the last 1-2 albums but it's just not nearly as good. Also, the video of him getting KO'ed is hilarious due to the fact that a 5'4" man in his mid-50's acts like such a badass.

Except for all those metal bands with singers who actually do sing, you mean?

Kris P Lettus 12-31-2012 11:25 AM

What does that even mean??

Rammsteinmad 12-31-2012 05:49 PM

I don't like PrettyCool's new "your mom" gimmick. He should go back to being a whiney bitch.

Rammsteinmad 12-31-2012 05:49 PM

However, I agree with his statement about metal. Meshuggah are great musicians, but generally as a band I find them to be so overated.

Rammsteinmad 12-31-2012 05:50 PM

I, however, have recently stepped away from my Progressive/Power/Symphonic/Goth metal/rock background, and am really digging Stuck Mojo at the moment.

Dragon BSP 01-02-2013 05:13 PM

I love metal.

Lately I've been into the slower doom stuff like Electric Wizard. Sunn O))) is pretty awesome too.

El Vaquero de Infierno 01-02-2013 05:17 PM

Electric Wizard's Dopethrone album is a fuckin' epic album. Love that shit.

The Destroyer 01-02-2013 05:39 PM

Could never get into Sunn0))) at all, far too droney for my tastes.

You are focusing on a sub-genre. Heavy Metal singers are among the best around.

- Judas Priest: Luciano Pavarotti was known to praise Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford for Rob's abilities.
- Scorpions: Klaus Meine is in his 60's, can still sing as well as he did 30 years ago.
- Accept
- Saxon
- Dio: at the time of his death (around 65 years old) the man could still sing like he did 30 years ago.
- Black Sabbath's various singers
- Queensryche
- Iron Maiden

Zombie is great, saw him live 2 years ago and he totally surprised me with how off the charts his set was.

drave 01-16-2013 02:03 PM

I think Rob Zombie's best work was with White Zombie. Not that his solo act is bad or anything, I just prefer the sound with White Zombie instead.

Disturbed has come a long way. They used to be awful live when they first hit it big, but the band as a whole is pretty damn good. I own all their albums except their latest release.

Drowning Pool, for me, was a one hit wonder. Bodies was great and the rest of their songs are pretty forgettable.

Heisenberg 01-16-2013 02:30 PM

Got to bask in the glory that is Dethklok last year on December 2nd in Austin, Texas.

One of the bands that played that night was All That Remains. They are worth a mention.

Lamb of God is also worthy of a listen or two.

The Condor 01-16-2013 02:33 PM

Saw Lamb of God about 5 years ago and was pumped but they were absolutely wretched. Same thing happened with Mastodon opening for Dragonforce and Slayer. Just disappointing for me because I was looking for a good show and they shit the bed.

Damn, I'm sorry to hear about that. Some bands that I've seen in concert recently that sounded great live were Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Dethklok(best), and Slayer.

I also had to sit through bands that were talked up by surrounding individuals in attendance and after the sets I would question their sanity and taste in music.

I'm going to the Mayhem Festival this year for the sole reason of seeing him for the first time. They are slow on confirming all of the bands, but he will suffice.

haven't had a chance to see the greatness of Dethklok yet. BTW love the avatar. Breaking Bad should have a Dethklok theme for the next season
Saw Lamb of God open for Metallica 3 years ago and was blown away. They are my 3rd fav band, even their stuff from "Burn The Priest" days is awesome.

Shitty man. I saw Mastodon, Killswitch, Sevendust AND Slayer at one of the many Jagermeister shows years back. All were solid, especially Killswitch. I think Mastodon's music, as great as it is, just doesn't translate well live. With some tuning though and less distortion, it could work.

Best band I have ever seen live, show wise, was Rammstein. They tore the fucking roof off.

The Condor 01-16-2013 04:48 PM

Best show I've seen has been Iron Maiden, followed by Metallica, GWAR and Danzig. A lot of the old guys are still able to bring it and I can only hope the new generation is able to do the same in the coming years.

Municipal Waste is awesome. If you are into 80's thrash (Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica etc.) with a modern twist then you should be into them. Check out S.O.D. as well, if you haven't heard them already.

Had a few good songs on it, if you have an eclectic ear :)

I enjoy Ice Cube too, and to hear them do a couple songs together was great.

Ice Cube had Korn on his War & Peace Album too, called "Fuck Dyin'" another good one.

the only things to please my earholes as of late consists of Lamb of God, Dethklok, Machine Head, Mastodon and of course Pantera.

I saw Machine Head perform, they have a rabid fan base, they were one of the openers back in December for the Dethklok show.

War & Peace is a fuckin' good Ice Cube album.

Drag The Waters has to be put in every playlist I have, or else I'm not doing my job in keeping Pantera alive.

I would honestly disagree. I prefer the Dio fronted Sabbath stuff to either his own or Ozzy's solo stuff.

He was accused of manslaughter after pushing a fan off stage. When the dude went down he cracked his head on the concrete and "got himself perished" (good quote there, you know which movie?)

He deserves a TON of respect for going through and dealing with the trial, whereas most people in his situation would have sent some super lawyers to do it for them.

Reminds me of the Metalocalypse episode where they had a health inspector check out Mordhaus. The part that sticks out to me the most is when they were in the lower sections and it went osmething like:

Inspector: You LITERALLY have one of your employees dissolving into your drain, is that metal too?

Nathan Explosion: "Yea, that's pretty metal" followed by consensus from the rest of the band.

Funny shit.

ron the dial 03-10-2013 10:30 PM

why the fuck didn't somebody tell me about ulver a long time ago?

The Destroyer 03-11-2013 06:32 PM

Which era of Ulver though? They're pretty all over the place musically, depending which album you're listening to.

Been a fan of theirs for years.

Corporate CockSnogger 03-11-2013 06:48 PM

I've got some time to kill. Gonna play my favourite game "Search for related artists of metal bands on spotify and laugh at the stupid names".

Gonna use "Ulver" as a starting point.

Corporate CockSnogger 03-11-2013 06:51 PM

Okay, there wasn't much here, a few Norwegian names and a few standard metal bands. Was quite disappointed until the very last band... "Crippled Black Phoenix"

Corporate CockSnogger 03-11-2013 06:52 PM

Bit disappointed in this game overall so far. Went with "And So I Watch You From Afar". Not much from there though, will have to pick a band randomly to take this further.

Corporate CockSnogger 03-11-2013 06:54 PM

Okay I started heading into indie territory. Game over.

Went back though and managed to hook myself up with "Deathspell Omega", got a good feeling on this route.

Corporate CockSnogger 03-11-2013 06:56 PM

From there "Secrets of the Moon" which then led me to a brilliant "Totalselfhatred" and then into "Diabolical Masquerade"

Corporate CockSnogger 03-11-2013 06:57 PM

"Daylight Dies" and "Novembers Doom" sound like cheery fellows.

Corporate CockSnogger 03-11-2013 06:59 PM

Okay, really getting somewhere now, not sure which route to take. I'm on the band "Hate", simple but effective. From there I could go with "Torture Killer", "Defleshed", "Necrophobic", "Necrophagia", "Septic Flesh" or "Goatwhore"
