Playstation 4
OH SHIT SON, IT'S ON NOW.
Sony has invited the press to "see the future" on Feb 20th in an event that will also be livestreamed. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/d-3GMHIgR-U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> https://us.playstation.com/meeting2013/ I'M GIDDY. But what's going to be the technology powering it, you glorious bastard Hasney? A fine question, sensually asked. LET'S TAKE A GANDER. This has been corroborated by multiple sources IN DA KNOW, so I'm confident it's real. http://www.vgleaks.com/world-exclusive-orbis-unveiled/ LIVERPOOL SOC Custom implementation of AMD Fusion APU Arquitecture (Accelerated Processing Unit) Provides good performance with low power consumtion Integrated CPU and GPU Considerably bigger and more powerful than AMD’s other APUs PU: Orbis contains eight Jaguar cores at 1.6 Ghz, arranged as two “clusters” Each cluster contains 4 cores and a shared 2MB L2 cache 256-bit SIMD operations, 128-bit SIMD ALU SSE up to SSE4, as well as Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) One hardware thread per core Decodes, executes and retires at up to two intructions/cycle Out of order execution Per-core dedicated L1-I and L1-D cache (32Kb each) Two pipes per core yield 12,8 GFlops performance 102.4 GFlops for system GPU: GPU is based on AMD’s “R10XX” (Southern Islands) architecture DirectX 11.1+ feature set Liverpool is an enhanced version of the architecture 18 Compute Units (CUs) Hardware balanced at 14 CUs Shared 512 KB of read/write L2 cache 800 Mhz 1.843 Tflops, 922 GigaOps/s Dual shader engines 18 texture units 8 Render backends UPDATE: some people is confused about the GPU, here you have more info about it: Each CU contains dedicated: - ALU (32 64-bit operations per cycle) - Texture Unit - L1 data cache - Local data share (LDS) About 14 + 4 balance: - 4 additional CUs (410 Gflops) “extra” ALU as resource for compute - Minor boost if used for rendering Dual Shader Engines: - 1.6 billion triangles/s, 1.6 billion vertices/s 18 Texture units - 56 billion bilinear texture reads/s - Can utilize full memory bandwith 8 Render backends: - 32 color ops/cycle - 128 depth ops/cycle - Can utilize full memory bandwith Memory: 4 GB unified system memory, 176 GB/s 3.5 available to games (estimate) Storage: - High speed Blu-ray drive single layer (25 GB) or dual layer (50 GB) discs Partial constant angular velocity (PCAV) Outer half of disc 6x (27 MB/s) Inner half varies, 3.3x to 6x - Internal mass storage One SKU at launch: 500 GB HDD There may also be a Flash drive SKU in the future Networking: 1 Gb/s Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WIFI, and Bluetooth Peripherals: Evolved Dualshock controller Dual Camera Move controller Extra: Audio Processor (ACP) Video encode and decode (VCE/UVD) units Display ScanOut Engine (DCE) Zlib Decompression Hardware |
"Shit be poppin'" is what that post means to me.
|
Comparing those specs to MS's Durango, if the leaks are believed it has the exact same CPU, but slightly worse graphics hardware. Durango also has more RAM (8gb), but slower DDR3 RAM compared to the GDDR5 in Orbis. Durango has a 32mb EDRAM cache to help with the slower memory bandwidth though.
Surprised Sony would be showing their hand first. But I cannot fucking wait. |
So does that confirm that shit indeed be poppin?
|
It's poppin harder than my asshole after a big vindaloo.
So yes, shit very much be poppin. |
Will the controller have a good weight to it?
|
There is a rumour that it will be a brand new controller. Hope that one's true.
Well, true and not this mutation again. http://www.technobuffalo.com/wp-cont...y-Batarang.jpg |
That's the thing, I like the controller right now - it just feels like I'm holding the controller's packaging in my hands.
|
Never try the controller from the Super Slim. It's just as light but now the material feels 80% cheaper too.

I don't think it'll be a new console reveal now. |
|
Don't even think that has anything to do with it, but it's a pretty render.
|
Playstation remotes are not very ergonomic on girls hands :)

Did you just call Rez shit?
I'm not angry, just disappointed. |

Fair enough. I'm sure you would have at least enjoyed watching me play it if I did get that Trance Vibrator though.

I'm hoping backwards compatibility is in there again.
|
Maybe PS1/PS2. Not a prayer on PS3.
|
"I will get a PS4 solely because of the AMD inside" <- The huge AMD fanboy inside me.

Yes.
Hell, if they didn't cost 3000 dollars, I'd probably buy a Mac if they used AMDs :o |
Think the Wii U also uses an AMD chip as well.
Quote:
Only issue might be the memory since Epic Games won't be happy and 4GB seems a bit small. On paper its only going to have 1/2 GB more useable memory than the Wii U (4GB overall but 1GB reserved for the OS). |

Oh shit son.
Not that I am gonna buy any console, PC still rules my world. |
According to Edge, the PS4 controller will have a new button called "Share" and allows anyone to record and edit up to 15 minutes of game footage.

Sony has the better exclusives IMO so ill prolly go with ps4. Since Thad hardware is much easier to work with Xbox won't have 100 exclusives at launch year to Sony's 3.
|
PCs will totally outstrip this before launch. ALL HAIL THE PC GAMING MASTER RACE!

Seems like kind of a dumb move, since exclusives are what distinguish your console. |
|
They don't have a clue what they're doing

HAPPY SIX DAYS LEFT EVERYBODY. Here's what Sony should and shouldn't do
<div style="background-color:#000000;width:520px;"><div style="padding:4px;"><iframe src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/embed/mgid:arc:video:gametrailers.com:6337421c-aac9-46a2-b2c2-6016f4f7d7ac" width="512" height="288" frameborder="0"></iframe><p style="text-align:left;background-color:#FFFFFF;padding:4px;margin-top:4px;margin-bottom:0px;font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><b><a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/games/tkebzh/playstation-4">PlayStation 4</a></b></p></div></div> |
Nice vid.
|
Yeah, I was shocked. It's much better than GT's usual output. Maybe they'll improve since their editor-in-chief quit recently.
|
I'd love to see this guy do one for Microsoft and Nintendo Direct but really those Do's and Don't's are kinda universal.
|
Rumored PS4 controller and if it really is true does fit with the recent rumors of it keeping the Dualshock design while having the mini-pad.
http://media1.gameinformer.com/image...on4/ps4600.jpg http://www.destructoid.com/what-the-...--244985.phtml |
All that extra plastic, it reminds me of the original xbox controller. There's gotta be alot more bulk in the middle.
|
That's a prototype, probably be slimmer for mass production.
Guess it'll feel heavier at least, which I'm cool with. |
It had better be slimmer. It reminds me of one of those really cheap knockoff controllers you bought because you were broke as fuck.
Thouh I wouldn't mind a more solid, weighty controller. Just kill the bulk. |
Triggers have more resistance now, apparently. This is good.
|
Yeah I've always disliked how the analogs on the dual shock curve outward instead of inward like the 360
|
LEGIT ADS ABOUT THE PLAYSTATION MEETING WHICH IS 5 (FIVE) DAYS AWAY:
http://imgur.com/kmgWQhv.png http://i.imgur.com/FZFLeXx.jpg Shit. Think they've hired Segas 16-bit marketing team. |
|
I hope they don't still think having a stronger console is better. I wonder if they learned anything at all.

Will it make their console good? Dunno. Quote:

I'm looking forward... to witnessing what will be the start of the death of consoles.
|
Whoever embraces indy games will win out, I think.
|
I'm predicting Valve will win this generation outright...
If they can release a few different tiered pc's all 'Steam' ready at startup and a friendly size for the living room, possibly look like consoles. They win. Surely they'd need to:
But if they keep their moddability then they are sure to win. Look at how much attention OUYA got for that and that's just Android... Their already going down that route anyway with the current rumours on hardware plans and their big picture mode. |

One of the amazing things about your prediction is that it relies on Valve doing things that aren't really Valve's to do. I know Gabe is fellated as better than Jesus and Steve Jobs rolled into one, but I don't think it's within his power to revolutionise the PC market in ways that are ultimately up to the publisher and developer. "Valve" may win this console generation, but only in the sense that consoles have become increasingly pointless. that's not really "outright," though. Besides, we all know the Ouya is going to win this generation. |
Looks better here.
http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18er...jpg/xlarge.jpg And yeah 'some guy' confirmed that the triggers are Xbox like now. I don't know if it's curved inward or not, though. |

Also, there had better be enough improvements to keep on pace with this. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/89gqKJ1AtWA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

|
6pm EST
|
How many days away are we now Hansey?
|
Gonna try to duck out of work a little early to try to catch this. Of all the days I gotta work at another store 20 miles away on wednesday.
|
Just peek on here and we'll keep you posted brother. If we're not wanking.
|
You're going to duck out of work. For this.
lolwut |
Sure. I can skip lunch and leave early if I want to.

Watching live conferences is only good for the fuck ups and people laughing at the price.
|
I enjoy them, but there's no way I'm waiting up until the stupid hours of the morning to watch it. The news will still be there in the morning.
|
Don't forget the streams in better quality either.

You should come here and watch it at night.

Can we braid each others hair?
|
You can braid my Home avatar's hair
|
1 and one half dayssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss Hanseyyyyyyyy
|
Who gives a fuck? Life is nothing but pain and suffering until you die. Then you'll even shit your pants, so you best not have an audience.
|
|
According to leaked documents from Sony, the PS4/Orbis is rumored to be costing about 300 Euros ($465). US price might end up between $400 to $450.

|
Pussies.
|
Yeah, I don't get why they're even revealing it now if they want to wait for the new XBox. This isn't even a first time deal.
|
Wait hold on, how many days now Hansey?
|
|
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
I'm so calling in sick tomorrow. Hell, I might have to take the whole week off for this.
|
There's like a 90% chance that will be disappointing and/or unintentionally hilarious. I'm less hype and more in that state where you're listening to a joke and you start giggling early because you guessed the punchline but you let the guy finish telling it anyway.
That. |

lol where can i find more of those gifs?

Gakai have registered a bunch of domains in the past 5 days around the theme of playstation-cloud. Expect that to be announced.

6pm (EST) the show begins. Just so we're clear.

Some rumored games that may or may not be announced as part of the show if Sony discusses any games.
