The Wolverine (July 26, 2013)

Quote:

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

Wolverine's adventure continues in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Corporate CockSnogger 02-02-2013 12:21 PM

Where does this fit in the overall timeline then? I'm sure I've read different things at different points. Is that just the bone claws in the first picture? I assume it's taking place at different points?

Skippord 02-02-2013 12:26 PM

that's when Wolverine gets caught by Buffalo Bill

the pit picture, that is

The majority of the story is after The Last Stand, but there will be snippets that go back to WW2. We gotta presume it was a time where he was separated from his brother because Victor will not cameo in this movie.

Fignuts 02-03-2013 04:34 AM

Never cared for wolvie's adventures in Japan. Maybe this movie will turn that around for me. I do like Viper, or Madame hydra, or whatever the fuck she's calling herself these days.

Fucking P Diddy of the comics world.

Ruien 02-04-2013 09:31 AM

Love Wolverine but was hoping for a X-Men movie after the Last Stand.

Kalyx triaD 02-04-2013 03:08 PM

Days of Futures Past?

Kalyx triaD 02-11-2013 07:10 PM

Silver Samurai:

Fignuts 02-12-2013 02:20 AM

That could be awesome or stupidly ridiculous.

Boondock Saint 02-12-2013 04:05 PM

The teaser for this is supposed to be playing in front of G.I. Joe

Kalyx triaD 02-12-2013 06:49 PM

About time then.

Who's the bird up there?

Kalyx triaD 03-26-2013 02:45 PM

Viper. Hail HYDRA.

Fignuts 03-26-2013 03:44 PM

Viper without the green locks is like wolverine without claws.

No sir, I don't like it.

"What they did to me, can't be undone".

What? How does he know anyone did anything to him? He's meant to have lost his memory.

You recall he meant Stryker and reasonably pieced together what went down during his trip to the Weapon X facility in X2.

This movie takes place after X3 and he should be versed in that part of his life by now, otherwise he'd be an idiot.

Fignuts 03-26-2013 04:36 PM

Didn't know it takes place after x3. Wonder if it will lead into wolvie's role in days of future past at all.

Rammsteinmad 03-26-2013 04:41 PM

Yeah I didn't know that either.

Kalyx triaD 03-26-2013 04:41 PM

It's too late to write that in the main plot, but perhaps a post-credits scene was added. DoFP just got started and Mark Miller (who would most likely lobby for such a connection) came on board kinda late.

The Destroyer 03-27-2013 11:19 AM

Trailer's out.

Wow. Gotta say, I wasn't too excited about this film until I saw that! Looks great!

Miotch 03-27-2013 03:31 PM

I'm interested. Skeptical, but interested.

Kalyx triaD 03-27-2013 06:56 PM

NICE.

Lock Jaw 03-27-2013 07:50 PM

That actually looks kinda good.

Kane Knight 03-27-2013 08:51 PM

I'd enjoy it more without Hugh Jackman, but it looks like it might actualy be worth a look.

DaveBrawl 03-28-2013 11:14 PM

Obviously Wolverine didn't watch Superman 2 or he would know not to do that.

XCaliber 03-29-2013 01:28 AM

Now that I've seen this I can say that I'm not that pumped to see this compared to a lot of films coming out this year will probably end up just renting this one.

Birdemic 2.

But seriously, just from comics alone we have Man of Steel (which might be a good Superman movie after decades) and Iron Man 3.

I haven't seen much on Thor, but even that kind of looks better.

Kalyx triaD 03-31-2013 02:54 AM

I'm down for this movie but yeah Man of Steel and Iron Man 3 may have this by a mile or two. Wolverine will get his day in Days of Future Past, though. That has to rock.

YOUR Hero 03-31-2013 05:58 PM

Forgot about the Superman movie.

Asmo 06-13-2013 01:07 AM

Should be a good movie.

Miotch 06-13-2013 03:13 AM

It saddens me but my feeling is still 'meh'.

Fignuts 06-13-2013 03:20 AM

Same. Not gonna judge it til I see it, but I'm not hyped for it at all.

Fucking Wolverine movies keep fucking with my favorite characters.

Kalyx triaD 07-19-2013 01:30 PM

As is the case with most Marvel movies, don't leave when the credits roll. There will a teaser for the next X-movie. Don't know if it's a trailer or a scene, though.

Kalyx triaD 07-19-2013 11:23 PM

Have some fun with visual history:

Corporate CockSnogger 07-25-2013 06:57 AM

Had no idea this was out today. Gonna go down and check it out in like half an hour. At the very least the X-Men films are a bunch of fun, even when the story isn't the best so I'll probably enjoy it.

Raven Reaper 07-25-2013 09:11 AM

Saw it today. Supposed to be a sequel to the trilogy where he ended up killing Jean Grey.. It felt like crossover movie of Kill Bill, Last Samurai, with a bit of Sucker Punch moments from hot Jap chicks and a giant samurai robo. Oh and there's a Mortal Kombat-ish Reptile except it's a hottie one.. Her name's Viper despite she's formerly known as Ms Hydra and is supposed to be Capt. America's villain... And she spits like Reptile too. Other than that, there's an extra ending
SPOILER: show
halfway through the credits with Magneto and a visit from a familiar friend
.. IT'S NOT POSSIBLE I tell you.. How did............ oh wait. Spoiler tags... OK I'm done. It was good.

Corporate CockSnogger 07-25-2013 10:31 AM

Solid film. Not a masterpiece, but nothing wrong with it. Pretty paint by numbers plot for the most part but its fun enough. Hugh Jackman continues to make me feel inferior as a human male.

SPOILER: show
Other than it being about a Caucasian guy in Japan and has swords, its nothing like The Last Samurai or Kill Bill so ignore everything Raven Reaper just said if you actually paid any notice to it in the first place. May as well say its just like TMNT 3. Anyway, the fight with Silver Samurai was sweet, wasn't expecting him to lose his adamantium claws so that was a bit of a surprise to me. Guessing that's a regular thing for him after looking at the picture Kalyx posted of Wolvie pics through time. Best scene for me though was the fight on top of the train. Pretty effing sweet guys. Villains were a little unmemorable, but we got more of a plot based story than a "HOLY SHITBALLS THESE MUTANTS ARE SO COOL!" kind of story.

Post-credits scene leads into Days of Future Past nicely and it was just pretty badass to see McKellan and Stewart back as Magneto and Prof X. Is choosing a pat down rather than going through a metal detector at an airport really an option though? lol

Kane Knight 07-25-2013 10:33 AM

Come to think of it, Wolverine has a lot in common with Casey Jones....:shifty:

McLegend 07-25-2013 09:05 PM

The reviews are pretty good. I'm definitely going to see it this weekend, and you know what I'm excited.

Kalyx triaD 07-25-2013 10:43 PM

Gonna try and catch this, of course.

I vaguely remember the bandana look, but never did know why he was wearing it. I always thought it was cool...until reading that.

Kane Knight 07-26-2013 03:49 PM

A lot of those costumes are just bad.

Lock Jaw 07-26-2013 05:29 PM

I like the brown costume, but the pic of it in that graphic makes it look "meh"

Asmo 07-26-2013 09:49 PM

Caught this yesterday. As Iginfest says, the plot is predictable to the very end. But, the first half sets up the movie well enough. An amazing fight sequence on the bullet train. The way the movie ends is very lacklustre. None of the deaths made me appreciate the skills of the killers.

But yes! The post credits scene more than makes up for it.

Also, kept thinking of CM Punk. I'm guessing his new look has something to do with it.

The cartoon series? Yes. I did. Kitty & Nightcrawler especially.

Fignuts 07-27-2013 03:44 AM

I feel Apocalypse and Sinister have never been topped since the 90s animated series. Their voices were just perfect and everything else since in both TV and games has failed to match them.

I always thought Apocalypse in Evolution was well done, but it was more the way they built him up rather than the actual character.

The Destroyer 07-27-2013 07:12 AM

Never actually seen Evolution. Might have to Netflix it.

Skippord 07-27-2013 07:19 AM

El Vaquero de Infierno 07-28-2013 08:52 AM

I'll probably go and see this on Thursday, but I'm not too arsed about Wolverine and X-Men in general.

Skippord 07-28-2013 09:21 AM

what about Wolverine and The X Men?

Fignuts 07-29-2013 02:09 AM

Just saw the last episode of that and god fucking dammit cunt faggot we could have had Age of Apocalypse. Fuck whatever network cancelled that show.

Skippord 07-29-2013 02:15 AM

Yep, it's a real drag

Fignuts 07-29-2013 02:19 AM

They finally have an animated program that matches DC's in quality, and they cancel it. Probably to make another failed avengers cartoon.

Fucking queefs.

Skippord 07-29-2013 02:27 AM

They cancelled it because it cost to much money to make apparently

I remember because I would look on the internet for when it was coming back all the time because I was excited. When I saw cancelled I was gutted.

Fignuts 07-29-2013 03:21 AM

Same reason carnivale was cancelled. Seems to be a recurring theme with my favorite shows.

Skippord 07-29-2013 03:29 AM

I'm still pretty irritated about how they changed Earth's Mightiest Heroes to whatever that new show is.

New show has terrible animation

Blitz 07-29-2013 04:03 AM

I found this film to be adequately entertaining, and that's really all I have to say about it.

Adder 07-29-2013 06:38 PM

I liked it well enough. It was missing a little something.

RoXer 07-30-2013 07:40 PM

For being standard, run of the mill humans those Yakuza sure did climb that bullet train with a careless ease. Very determined to kill Wolverine for some reason while flying at 300 mph.

This, and the woman that played Mariko was kinda cute.

Kalyx triaD 08-06-2013 03:29 AM

I dug this, but the soundtrack kept missing the mark. Logan vs Shishen was hype, but I felt like anime Girl should have had that final standoff.

Silver Samurai was out of place as hell, even though it looked cool. Just off the existence of another very popular Marvel movie franchise, I wouldn't have touched a robot suit with a ten foot poll. I would have had Viper de-age Gramps just enough for him to don Silver Samurai gear and face Wolverine in the final battle. I really don't see why there needed to be a mech.

Viper could have been completely replaced with Mr. Sinister, have him survive, and we have a decent villain to use in the future.

Fignuts 08-06-2013 03:41 AM

Feel like Sinister would be way more out of place than Viper. Viper at least has a long history with Logan in the comics.

As an adaptation of the stories from Japan, I feel like they picked the right characters, even if Silver Samarai was a lame robot, and Viper had powers.

JimmyMess 08-06-2013 01:54 PM

Just watched this. It was really good!
