Came up with this in the shower at work about 15 minutes ago. Pick one singular ppv that you think is the most important/influential in wrestling history excluding Wrestlemania 1.

My pick is Wrestlemania 14

You had Austin defeating HBK which was a changing of the guard and completed the rise of Austin

You had The Rock make his first Wrestlemania appearence

The coming out party for Sable is her mixed tag match. I think people forget how huge Sable was. The women's championship was brought out of retirement for her.

Kane vs Undertaker was a HUGE angle.

The New Age Outlaws really had their coming out party as well.

Mike Tyson's appearance really put a stamp on the new direction the company was going.

Are we excluding Wrestlemania 1?

Was thinking WM 13 simply because the double turn had such huge implications for the future of the business. 14 was more well rounded in that aspect though.

WrestleMania 3 also deserves honorable mention obviously.

Goldust was the fucking man from debut up to and including when he was with the Blue Meanie and Ryan Shamrock. He had his moments since then, but he was never the same after.

Wrestlemania 14 gets my vote, kick started one of the biggest boom periods in the industries history.

Wrestlemania 3 would be my vote- Hogan and Andre with tens of thousands in attendance solidified Wrestlemania as the premier event.

influential...likely 3. 1 &2 were not on PPV so 3 was the first mania that was with still some closed circuit action. one was a gamble and 2 was a crapshoot with the formatting that could have imploded at any moment. 3 was the first homerun. it also had matches the influenced future superstars.

14 was damn important too.Tyson being there put all kinds of eyes on it and it propelled the WWF past WCW. the Austin character was off and running

Bash at the Beach 96 is up there. So is Survivor Series 97. This is where Vince became the legend he is today.

InVasion. Even though everything went downhill after that, the PPV was the peak and culmination of that era.

In hindsight, it was solidified proof that WCW's show runners were not interested in what was best for business and were willing to put a bullet in the biggest angle / most popular star in the company, for reasons of pure ego. It was the beginning of the end and the death of WCW influenced the wrestling business more than anything else.

I agree with your last sentence entirely. But I still think Starrcade 98 was more important than 97. Even though they totally fucked up the Sting/Hogan match, WCW continued to pull in very strong ratings for the next year. They still had stars and they still had matches that people wanted to see (this would only last about another 1.5 years or so). But by the time Starrcade 98 rolled around, WCW only really had one big star left: Goldberg. WWF was beating WCW on a regular basis, but Goldberg was still one of the biggest stars in the wrestling industry, on par with Stone Cold, bigger than The Rock, DX, HBK and the rest of the WWF's main event players. He was their ticket out of the red and back into ratings increases.

But with a taser and a 3 count, they killed Goldberg. And then with the Finger Poke and the reformation of the nWo Elite and his side-lining injury, Goldberg was buried. And WCW had no one left that the people wanted to see beat the nWo.

Starrcade 97 was a HUGE botch job for WCW - like getting punched in the face right before an orgasm, the lead up had been great, but the end was fucking painful and embarrassing. But it wasn't the end. They had positioning and stars that could be used to rebuild.

Starrcade 98 was the end. After they beat Goldberg and Nash had taken up the book, it was over and nothing was going to save WCW.
