What is the single most important/influential ppv in wrestling history excluding Wrestlemania 1
Came up with this in the shower at work about 15 minutes ago. Pick one singular ppv that you think is the most important/influential in wrestling history excluding Wrestlemania 1.
My pick is Wrestlemania 14 You had Austin defeating HBK which was a changing of the guard and completed the rise of Austin You had The Rock make his first Wrestlemania appearence The coming out party for Sable is her mixed tag match. I think people forget how huge Sable was. The women's championship was brought out of retirement for her. Kane vs Undertaker was a HUGE angle. The New Age Outlaws really had their coming out party as well. Mike Tyson's appearance really put a stamp on the new direction the company was going. |
Are we excluding Wrestlemania 1?
Was thinking WM 13 simply because the double turn had such huge implications for the future of the business. 14 was more well rounded in that aspect though.
WrestleMania 3 also deserves honorable mention obviously. |
Yeah, we should exclude Wrestlemania 1
Lot of coming out parties at WM14. Sounds a bit gay if you ask me.
Well.....did you see what Goldust wore.
Seriously, how fucking awesome was Goldust during that era. His theme was the best.

And Marc Mero was constantly having a coming out party with that tash.
Goldust was the fucking man from debut up to and including when he was with the Blue Meanie and Ryan Shamrock. He had his moments since then, but he was never the same after.
I feel like Lady Gaga was a big fan of The Artist Formerly Known as Goldust.
Wasn't Mania 13 The Rock's first Mania appearance? Or are we considering The Rock to be something entirely different to Rocky Maivia?
The one that had the gimmick battle royale
Bash at the Beach '96 has to be up there as well. Sure, it didn't have as many moments as some, but the ending was one of the single most important moments.
Wrestlemania 14 gets my vote, kick started one of the biggest boom periods in the industries history.
Wrestlemania 3 would be my vote- Hogan and Andre with tens of thousands in attendance solidified Wrestlemania as the premier event.
Wrestlemania 14 was huge too, springboarding WWF over WCW |
The first TNA Lockdown. I mean, every match taking place in a cage?! Brilliant!
WrestleMania 3, 14 and X7 in a triple tie.
Wrestlemania X7 is constantly talked about, so that.
Wrestlemania 21 when Cena became a main eventer too, WWE changed (for better or worse) |

influential...likely 3. 1 &2 were not on PPV so 3 was the first mania that was with still some closed circuit action. one was a gamble and 2 was a crapshoot with the formatting that could have imploded at any moment. 3 was the first homerun. it also had matches the influenced future superstars. 14 was damn important too.Tyson being there put all kinds of eyes on it and it propelled the WWF past WCW. the Austin character was off and running |
Vengeance 2006
Wrestlemania 3.
On a negative note: December To Dismember. Killed ECW as anything other than a televised talent development show.
Bash at the Beach 96 is up there. So is Survivor Series 97. This is where Vince became the legend he is today.
would probably say the build and execution of BATB '96, was the catalyst for changing the direction of the entire industry. WrestleMania 14 just solidified WWF/Austin
InVasion. Even though everything went downhill after that, the PPV was the peak and culmination of that era.

Starrcade 83

Mania 14..... Austin's title win launched the Attitude Era.....

KOTR 98 should be considered. It fed bump babies for years and created retarded feds like CZW doing ridiculous bumps.
Nothing has ever topped the brutality of Mankind/Undertaker HIAC ..... I love WM 17 but I don't think it will be remembered as an industry changing event. I'd say WM 20 would be a lead contender if Benoit didn't Benoit his family. |
Survivor Series 1997? Thought for sure that'd have a bunch of votes
to me SS 97 is more infamous than influential. it did spark a few parodies and mock screwjobs in wcw but all were fails

From a historical standpoint, Mania 3. Easy. Nothing else really compares.
From a personal standpoint, Starrcade 1998. The night Goldberg took his first loss. In hindsight, it was solidified proof that WCW's show runners were not interested in what was best for business and were willing to put a bullet in the biggest angle / most popular star in the company, for reasons of pure ego. It was the beginning of the end and the death of WCW influenced the wrestling business more than anything else. |
Starrcade 97 > Starrcade 98 in importance/influence levels. Proven by science.

Culmination of one of the biggest angles ever. The night Sting took on Hogan, and they couldn't let Sting win cleanly. In hindsight, it was solidified proof that WCW's show runners were not interested in what was best for business and were willing to put a bullet in the biggest angle / most popular star in the company, for reasons of pure ego. It was the beginning of the end and the death of WCW influenced the wrestling business more than anything else.
Is that the match where they screwed up Bret Hart's ref spot?
Obviously
Survivor Series 1998 deserves a mention. The rise to the main event of The Rock. The start of the corporation. The face turn of loveable Mick Foley. Another dilema for Stone Cold Steve Austin in his feud with Vince as Shane screws him. Undertaker and Kane continue their feud. Whole lot of shit happening here.
Summerslam 2002
-Brock beats Rock for the title -HBK returns after 4 year hiatus -Rey Mysterio debuts against Angle Really the "end" of the Attitude era. |
You might as well just say Judgment Day 2007 if you're going by that logic.
- Bobby Lashley defeats Vince for the ECW Title - John Cena retains against THE MAMMOTH The Great Khali in his debut WWE Title match - And MVP beats Chris Benoit in 2 straight falls Fucking idiot. |

But with a taser and a 3 count, they killed Goldberg. And then with the Finger Poke and the reformation of the nWo Elite and his side-lining injury, Goldberg was buried. And WCW had no one left that the people wanted to see beat the nWo. Starrcade 97 was a HUGE botch job for WCW - like getting punched in the face right before an orgasm, the lead up had been great, but the end was fucking painful and embarrassing. But it wasn't the end. They had positioning and stars that could be used to rebuild. Starrcade 98 was the end. After they beat Goldberg and Nash had taken up the book, it was over and nothing was going to save WCW. |

Mike Adamle is the poster who will be taking over the reigns when Shisen and I retire.
Is that set in stone because we could hold some kind of tpwws got talent competition to come up with an alternative, I'm thinking billybonez could do a better job, or frog, that guy doesn't even post.
frog is the next ABT
PrettyCool's a far better poster than mike adamle, even if he is a sock/character account. Adamle is such a fucking quilt.
When you're right you're right.

Its a sad day when the sock is the superior account.

it all makes sense now, really. |
He called jindrak a fucking idiot though, so he was at least half right
oh understandable. though, he kinda knows his place. good ole mike tries really hard to sound like he knows what he is talking about in the wrestling forum. it's pretty hilarious actually. very telling

Weapon X is clearly jealous of our fame, and also that Mike Adamle totally destroys him in workrate.

Is Ted Ious the black janitor who works with PrettyCool?
Neither of those things in fact.

Owenbrown is viewing this thread. I thought things were getting a bit rapey here.
