WWE 2K14
So WWE '13 had a very impressive story with the re-telling of Attitude Era mode, a wonderful idea and a nice change from the previous years with the simple Road To Wrestlemania, even if WWE '12 was alright with the different stories one after another.
But this makes me wonder: How will they top this? What will they do for WWE '14? Will they go back to RTWM? Try something else? What sort of ideas could they do? (Dunno if this should be in the game section or not) |
Undertaker's streak mode would be bitching
Stealth based Johnny Curtis story mode, detailing his rise to Fandango.
Yeah, I'll move this to VG.
please rename this the WWE 14 thread
WOOOOOOOOOOO i am somebody!
Changed. So what do you want in WWE '14 from 2K?
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Keep it gormless! |
"WWE 2k14"
We know Yukes is doing it (for the last time?), and 2K is putting their touch on it. This may mean the best presentation since, of all things, WWF Raw for Xbox. |
Could be great. Could be shit. NBA series is great but the MLB one is shit. They are hit or miss.
As long as they don't change the gameplay mechanics. 13 really felt like it was in a good spot with it.
I like button mashing. The next game needs more button mashing. Also a mode called FEED ME MORE where you have to shell shock the whole roster in the rumble...by mashing buttons.

Listen to wrestling game fans. Unlike fighting game fans, and more like sports game fans, they have a damn good handle on what would make a good WWE game. The past games that were the most fan approved were when they took fan input especially serious. |
2K and Yukes could get away doing another Attitude Era mode for WWE 14 to cover the years and events WWE 13 didn't cover.
Depending on how far they go, they have several possibilities of ending it either after the WCW buyout, WM X-7, InVasion, or WM 18. |
Jesus I hope not. The last thing I would do is relive stuff in a WWE game, but if it was that successful last round then fine. I'd rather see Universe mode expanded, I love the concept.

No Road to WrestleMania, no Attitude Era, no story mode at all. Take all of the time and energy that would go to scripting a linear story and expand the hell out of Universe. Voice-over, better cut scenes, deeper branching stories, and even more customization.
I'd even skip over VO.
I want more CAW slots. I want to be able to, at it's extreme, run two different shows with exclusive rosters of nothing but original CAWs. Theirs and the TV show themes would be custom. There would be homemade PPV trailers using an upgraded Highlight Reel creator (which would also serve CA-Titantrons). Creation is in the DNA of wrestling games (best in the biz, imo), now blow it the fuck up and don't you dare walk backwards. |
Mix the Attitude era concept w/ legends of Wrestlemania in the sense that you relive the 80's era using superstars they have under legend deals from that era.
Different Legends, even midcarders/Jobbers would be a refreshing change.
All I ask and all I have asked for the last 5 years is to be able to play as my CAW on my brothers profile. Without being able to pit my guys against his, CAW is meaningless to me and, as a result, the entire game becomes meaningless to me. Any of the guys that played Soul Calibur V with me knows I love creation mode. I'd seriously buy a game in which I had to create every character and stage myself.
Attitude mode was briefly entertaining but, since this crap, I've barely touched a modern wrestling game. My save and his save are on the same console. We are both signed in. Where is the hard part? Ok, I can understand if I can't use his guys but I should, at least, get access to my own. |

I would rather buy a game where the Legends are the Nasty Boys/Rotten Brothers/Gillberg than 3 different versions Cena/Edge/Rock etc, all the guys the have on Legends deals would jump at the chance for the VG residuals and wouldn't cost all that much.
No, I totally agree. I wasn't being sarcastic. They have a ton of guys under the Legends deals they use for little more than action figures. Would love a game of legends that didn't suck like LoW
Give me some Earthquake, Typhoon, fuck Virgil could use the payday.
I enjoyed the older Legends game, think it was on the PS2, think the only big names were RVD/Bret and Hogan with a smattering of others but an amazingly diverse roster. Would like to see them bring back more options too, fuck around with stipulations and match types like the older WWF PS games.
Loved the allude to Wargames in '13, wouldn't mind more older match types brought in.
TIE THE GOD DAMNED CREATED CONTENT TO THE GOD DAMN HARD DRIVE SPACE AVAILABLE

I sometimes play the tornado chamber tag team match and call it War Games when I make story modes. Quote:
It's too bad THQ fucked up. They actually made the best Jeopardy! game of the last decade. That Udraw was a floating piece of shit though. Saw it at a Target the other day on the floor. |
Might have been, all kinda blurred into one.
I have a bad feeling WWE 2k14 won't be too much different at all from WWE 13. The same staff was retained for the most part and Yuke's were already working on WWE 14. They're still targeting a fall release so there's just not enough time to put together a game that is markedly different.
If any wholesale changes are made to the series, it'll be in WWE 2k15 when they've had a full year to work on it. |
Pretty much, can only hope they've taken notes of the grumbles about '13 at least.
I would love to see Attitude Era Mode 2.0 which covers from after WrestleMania XV to WrestleMania X-8. I had more fun playing Attitude Era mode than I did anything else. I've all but given up on universe mode.
Universe mode is where the replay ability is at. Attitude era was great, but I'm not going to go back to those matches all that often. Agree with tommy gunn and vito Cruz here. Universe mode has so much potential. Really wish that would be a focus.
Royal rumble related storylines leading up to the ppv where they have matches to determine who gets #30.....qualifying matches for money in the bank..... When you get to wrestlemania nothing really stands out. You don't really feel like you're at "the showcase of the immortals.". Just another ppv at the end of the month. |

The big problem though is that they'd really need to get the rights to put Kurt Angle into the game. He was a huge part of those years and I really don't think they could pull it off without him. He was involved in a ton of main events, was the champion during that stretch, won KOTR, was a huge part of the Invasion if they take the mode that far, etc. If they could get the Dudleys and Hardys into the game that would be a huge boost as well - but Angle is the one guy that would have to be in there. |
Not sure exactly how TNA contracts work for that kinda thing, they had Hogan in LoW while he was under contract there but not sure if that was a pre-arranged deal or what. Honestly don't think TNA would refuse them going into a game though, they release guys to jump ship after all.
Legends of WrestleMania came out around WrestleMania time in 2009. Hogan signed with TNA in the October/November range. You mean WWE All-Stars.
Yeah think so.
When Yukes / THQ released sub-par WWE games, I at least knew what I was getting. With '13 they made Universe mode look amazing but none of those features are really there, the programming is fucking junk.
I'm fine with a shit game, it is what it is, I just can't stand being lied to, kind of like with Aliens CM. |
They can top it but making the physics better, 13' was good but they react and move like robots most of the time.
But yeah, Streak mode will be cool. |

I miss the physics of WWE 12.
I'd be down for streak mode. If they got all of the arena's and opponents for the Undertaker. Would be nice to see Giant Gonzalez's family get a pay-day or whoever is in charge of his affairs.
I love having all the old arenas on WWE 13. I wish they would have thrown in the RAW 2000 set.
Haven't played any of these games since Here Comes The Pain and unless they finally change the engine, it'll probably stay that way.
I feel like these games are just like Madden games now. Same exact game every year, but with an updated roster and a few new modes/features. No thanks |
I don't think WWE 13's campaign was as shady as the Aliens thing. By a mile.
I wouldn't want a new attitude era mode. I wouldn't mind something similar in a different era, like an 80's version.
And Max Moon. I need Max Moon. |
The best story-modes in the games to me were the ones that loosley matched up with the previous year. The one that had the Hulk/Rock handshake storyline from WrestleMania 18 and somebody being offered a movie role and having the mode end abruptly if you talked about an upcoming movie project instead of saying when you'd return to the ring.
I want a Wrestlemania 19 style story mode
Death by construction site throwing. |
Skippord is right
The Jayman has clearly been hacked.
My 9,000th post is to say whiteyford is wrong
I feel bad you had to waste that landmark because of my hated of Skippord.
It's ok. I'm willing to bet your 9,000th post will be something you say is wrong
I still love you though
I'm going to use it for justice, and by justice I mean calling Skippord a fud for his unrational hatred of the living legend John Cusack. Or a picture of some scantilly clad young vixen, 50/50 right now.
or just do both in 1 post
I like your thinking.
Going back to what Vito said, kinda hoping this is just a filler game using the stuff THQ had already started and that we'll get a completely reworked game for '15.
Which we will all then bitch about for being different. |
My only big fear about getting a completely reworked game, is the possibility of losing some of the creation stuff. Say what you will about the gameplay, but thq's creation suites are absolutely incredible. Even as a kid fantasizing about my perfect wrestling game, I never could have imagined the things you can do in WWE 13.
We will obviously still get a caw, but will all the other stuff return? |
They seem to take a lot of the caw stuff out with each game, maybe that's just me, I'd love to see them expand upon the creation stuff though.
Taking out a lot of the attire stuff doesn't bother me because paint tool makes a lot of it unnessecary.
I am irked about the loss of a lot of moves over the years. They do add a lot more to creation as a whole each year. We got over 300 new story scenes this year, along with stage editing for create an arena. Being able to have the game make a titantron for you is another welcome addition. |
I don't really use much more than the caw/finisher stuff honestly but the move set is another thing the seem to take away from each year without really adding anything new.
I guess it makes sense for them to improve it, adds longevity, and some of the caws/arenas folk had uploaded were better than the ingame stuff. |
Quote:
Also, I want to be able to choreograph/time entrances down to the split-second if I so choose, a la WrestleMania XIX where you can choose how long each scene takes. God that was a great feature of the entrance creation in that game. |
Actually yeah for now that is too much to ask. It was kinda amazing they even got encoding in the series to begin with which was why I gave the limited CA-Titantron a pass last year. What you're asking for is a full video edit app. Don't get me wrong, a 'guys in the trucks' production mode would be incredible but that's a next gen WWE game for sure.
And that's also IF 2K retains the signature creation suite of WWE games AND THEN decides to expand on it, when they eventually take development in-house.. |
I was bored so I tried to put together a potential Attitude Era 2.0 roster. This is based on the idea that they can actually get the rights to use Kurt Angle:
Big Boss Man Big Show Billy Gunn Bradshaw Cactus Jack Chris Jericho Christian Crash Holly Dean Malenko Eddie Guerrero Edge Faarooq Grandmaster Sexay Hardcore Holly Kane Kurt Angle Mick Foley Mr. McMahon Rikishi Road Dogg The Rock Scotty Too Hotty Shane McMahon Shawn Michaels Steve Blackman Stone Cold Steve Austin Test Triple H The Undertaker William Regal X-Pac 31 wrestlers in there, I picked 31 because it was the same amount of Attitude Era guys that shipped last year (including Mike Tyson who was day 1 DLC, figure they could do the same with Shawn Michaels or something this year since he'll really only be needed as a ref for the story). This also isn't too terribly different from last year's roster because it doesn't need to be. That roster would allow them to easily do a mode running from Survivor Series 1999 to WrestleMania X7. The only main event they couldn't do is Rock/Benoit obviously - but Fully Loaded 2000 could be represented by Jericho/HHH. The majority of the important matches can be done. Including Shane taking sick bumps (vs. Big Show and vs. Steve Blackman). Also Dean/Scotty from Backlash 2000 as a bonus match, because that match ruled. The Hardyz would fit really nicely if they can be allowed into the game, but I wouldn't bet on it. Also Chyna would be a surprisingly good fit for the Jericho and Eddie storyline but I don't think they'd allow it since it'd mean a man has to strike a woman, which has been banned from WWE games for a few years now. |
All of Triple H's big wins in those years would be included during the McMahon-Helmsley regime years. This mode would make James Steele reach the point of orgasm.
Here we go.
McMahon-Helmsley era was perfectly captured in No Mercy. Don't know if they need to re-do it. 2k Sports should try to find the people with the rights to No Mercy and make it an Xbox Live/Virtual Console download.
I bet they could make a shitload of money off of just revamping that game for 2012 as an XBox Arcade game. I'd pay $20 easy.
I'd like the physics to have a bit more 'umph' to them, when I punch someone I want it to feel like I've punched them, like in No Mercy, when punches and kicks felt like they hurt.
That's not a physics thing so much as an animation/effects thing.
I always liked the sound effects in No Mercy. Yeah, it wasn't realistic but it was enjoyable. Punching someone hard and hearing a satisfying DSSHHT sound is better than the modern games in which you punch someone hard and, at best, get a dull thump noise.
I miss the epic bell of a low blow and the comical reactions.
The Rock is confirmed to be on the cover of WWE 14.
Honestly I doubt it would be terribly difficult for them to revamp No Mercy. The characters aren't that hard to create and they could easily fit everybody on the roster in since each character has 4 slots (Kai En Tai would be different slots within the same character, etc.), the arenas are fairly basic. They'd just need to add a few new moves for finisher purposes and they'd be good to go.
Changing the story mode wouldn't be hard either since no voiceover is used. They can leave it with the current format where you pick a belt to go for and just play the story from there. |
Feel like No Mercy hasn't aged as well as everyone thinks it has.
I've been playing No Mercy this past week or so and I enjoy it more than any WWE game since HCTP.
It's still fun to play and works well. CPU vs CPU is awful, though. They never do anything. I tried to ref a CPU match and gave up in the end. |

I could never really get into DoR or DoR2. I don't know why, I think it just seemed bad to me.
Crazy.
The best matches I ever had, without 'playing it up' and 'dragging it out', where me and other wanted to win and the match looked PPV worthy - was in DoR2. Never since.
I played DoR (whichever one had the outside of an arena as the backdrop from the menu) quite a bit and it just felt bad. Cheap and hollow. I can't do a point by point breakdown of why unless I played it again.
I think a lot of it was down to it feeling pretty barebones. |
Sorry to hear that.

We know.

I played Fire Pro on the PS1 but it was Japanese so I had no clue. All I knew was a guy was stabbing some other guy in the head with a fork and the ring blew up.

Fire pro Wrestling Returns on the PS2 was pretty good.

WCW vs nWo World Tour is the greatest video game ever made so I change my answer

High Flying Elimination chambers were incredible! 6 of us on a multi-tap Hurricane, RVD, Rey Mysterio, Ultimo Dragon, Eddie Guerrero and Matt Hardy
So many good memories... |
For 360 and PS3 this Oct.

Change the name to WWE 2K14

Waiting for that, I think it would be cool.
