Songs We Ought To Retire

Lately I have come to realize that some songs have been around quite a while and worn out their welcome with me. Don't like them, or I find them annoying, whatever. If you could retire one or two songs from the global playlist which would they be?

"Sweet Home Alabama"- makes every person, regardless of religion, race, gender or geographic location feel like a red neck. And it's really not that good.

"Epic" by Faith No More- I get it, understand its place in the musical evolution chain, but it really hasn't stood the test of time and Im just not a fan.

Curd 04-12-2013 08:32 PM

"Tub Thumping" by Chumbawumba

"Wicked Game" by Chris Isaac

"This Kiss" by Faith Hill

"All Summer Long" by Kid Rock

"Imma Be" by Black Eyed Peas

FakeLaser 04-12-2013 08:44 PM

Train - Soul Sister

Juan 04-12-2013 09:16 PM

Anything by Sublime. They're one of my favorite bands, but I feel like I've heard every single song a million times now.

Shisen Kopf 04-12-2013 09:34 PM

Daft Punk-One More Time, utter euro trash crap.

Heisenberg 04-12-2013 09:35 PM

Epic is one of my favs, but I understand your point.

"Thunderstruck" by AC/DC. It plays everywhere, motivational runs, Power Point presentations etc.

Yes! For some reason, I kept on imagining Hogan vs. Savage in a steel cage from Uncensored '98 every time that played. :wtf: #Weird

Shisen Kopf 04-12-2013 09:40 PM

Limp Bikzit--ANYTHING

Curd 04-12-2013 09:42 PM

"Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf

The song which goes "Stop, yeah, what's that smell"

"I'm a Believer" by The Pretenders or anyone covering it

"Fade to Black" by The Rolling Stones has an assload of covers which thankfully leave radio rotation fairly quickly.

Their cover of The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes" was funny because of the sequence, "And I blame YOU!!!" -silence- answering machine recording

I think u mean "paint it black" u yellow lipped musically stunted manlet.

The Condor 04-12-2013 11:16 PM

PrettyCool is PrettyPerceptive. "Fade to Black" = Metallica

Shisen Kopf 04-12-2013 11:55 PM

Don't Stop Believin'--Journey. No such place as South Detroit, that would be Windsor and who the hell wants to sing about that place?

FakeLaser 04-13-2013 11:17 AM

That club song that's like "SO WE GONNA ROCK THIS CLUB, WE GONNA GO ALL NIGHT, WE GONNA LIGHT IT UP LIKE IT'S DY-NOMITE"

FakeLaser 04-13-2013 11:17 AM

That song that's like IT'S A QUARTER AFTER ONE, I'M ALL ALONE AND I MISS UUUUUU

FakeLaser 04-13-2013 11:22 AM

Complete Discographies:
Bon Jovi
311
Sublime
Dave Matthews Band
Metallica
Loutallica
Goo Goo Dolls
Counting Crows
Lifehouse
Gin Blossoms
Everclear
Mumford & Sons and related folk-suspenderwave stadium "indie" bands

Pearl Jam - Evenflow
Blind Melon - Whatever the fuck that bumblebee song is

FakeLaser 04-13-2013 11:23 AM

Like 97% of music probably

road doggy dogg 04-13-2013 11:27 AM

Journey - Don't Stop Believin' - Pretty much the bane of karaoke nights everywhere. Guaranteed to come up at least once throughout the night, and be sung terribly.

Oasis - Wonderwall - It's the "Don't Stop Believin'" of douchey acoustic guitar players at pubs. Bar promoting an acoustic set of some local musician? Almost guaranteed they will be playing Wonderwall at some point. Not a bad song by any means, but just so cliché.

Lynyrd Skynyd - Sweet Home Alabama - For basically the same reasons as above.

Pearl Jam - Evenflow - "Controversial" pick, but IDK. Every time I listen to any alternative radio station I hear it. Like, without fail. And, no exaggeration, every single time I've been in a car with anyone who has XM radio, if the Lithium station is on I've heard this track within 10 minutes of the station being on. I get that that's the "point" of the channel, but BLAH. I'm just tired of hearing this song on the radio.

Also, basically any song that was "the rage" for about 2 weeks and has outlived its 15 minutes. Like if I were to hear a radio station today playing Call Me Maybe or Gangnam Style. The songs, during their peak, were annoying but I understood that that was the chart-topper of the moment. Whatevs. Now though, it's like... you're just embarrassing yourself, top 40 station. Let it go.

It's karaoke. If you're going out to karaoke, you deserve what you get.

However, the recent resurgence of the song being sung everywhere thanks to Glee is enough to make me agree that it should be retired.

In fact, we should retire any song that gets onto Glee. And yes, I'm aware that includes "Somebody to Love" by Queen and that one Lady Gaga song I can tolerate.

Corporate CockSnogger 04-13-2013 05:59 PM

"Go With The Flow" by Zachary Amaranth. I've played it so many times now it is engraved in my brain so it's not really necessary to keep around.

Kane Knight 04-13-2013 06:08 PM

I appreciate your fandom.

Hell's Bells
Welcome to the Jungle
Don't Stop Believing
Bohemian Rhapsody

Bad News Gertner 04-13-2013 09:10 PM

blink 182 because they are atrocious.

Asmo 04-13-2013 09:21 PM

Green Day - "Wake Me Up When September Ends" + "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams"
John Mayer - "Your Body Is A Wonderland"

Vastardikai 04-13-2013 09:30 PM

Pearl Jam - "Yellow Ledbetter": I hate this song more than "Evenflow," because I swear it takes 5 years to get through.

Rob Zombie - "Living Dead Girl": I should specify the digital playings of this song. Because HALF OF THE EFFECTS are lost in the conversion from Analog to Digital.

Linkin Park - The whole catalog: Seriously. They had maybe one good song ever. If there was any band that should be thankful that At The Drive-In imploded when they did, it's these guys.

Normally I'd be in full agreement, but even some of my favourite, otherwise-totally-rational bars have karaoke nights, and it's unavoidable.

I think the worst I've ever experienced was two drunk chicks doing Walk by Pantera. At first I was willing to give them props on the song selection, but once it started, oh good god did that take a 180.

I agree with Fakerazor. If you're not good enough to get on a major record label then you shouldn't be allowed to release music.

FakeLaser 04-14-2013 09:28 PM

Everything Muse has ever done

Shisen Kopf 04-14-2013 09:33 PM

again I agree with FakeRazor. Muse is just Radiohead light mixed with a little Queen. Nothing original at all.

Bad News Gertner 04-15-2013 03:11 AM

Bon Iver and Animal Collective are fucking terrible. They can quit too.

"Been Caught Stealing" by Jane's Addiction. Never was a fan and the job I worked in high school had this song playing at least once a day in the background. I have come to loathe it.

The Rogerer 04-15-2013 12:06 PM

Anything by AC/DC. Rubbish.

Made it about 45 seconds. This should never have been recorded, or even conceptualized in the first place.

Linkin Park is nothing more than Nsync with Guitars.

And my dislike of "Living Dead Girl" is only due to the fact that many of the samples disappear due to the transition to digital. The song itself is fine, it's the vanishing samples that pissed me off.

Crazy Train by Ozzy Osborne
Rock and Roll, Pt. 2 by Gary Glitter
Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin
Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People (actually, I don't want this song retired - I want every copy of it shot into the sun along with the band as a warning to all bands everywhere not to record shit like this ever again)

I miss "old" Seether (though I can still enjoy some of their current stuff).

Seems shitty to say, but the band was way better when Shaun Morgan was intoxicated.
