Big News: Jim Ross Retires from WWE
Per the WWE feed on Facebook, Jim Ross retired from WWE effective TODAY. It said he is retiring from the company to better focus on his business endeavors.
Thoughts? |
it's on the front page of wwe.com too.
Uh what was he doing there?
I'm sure he'll never be back.
yeah it's disappointing, but how often does he even announce anymore? the rare ppv? i'm not sure if he does anything backstage anymore either
Can't believe they didn't use him this year at WM29. Would have been nice to hear him call the Punk vs. Undertaker match.
Having him do pre and post show with a few other people like Kofi Kingston was pretty ridiculous IMO |
I'm sure he'll be around occasionally. Outside of hosting the PPV pre-shows and calling the occasional Wrestlemania match, I'm not sure what exactly he still did for the company in the last several years.
Bah gawd he'll be back.
I bet Dixie is contacting him right now.
He has been a Talent Relations Consultant for NXT the past few years.
Love Jim Ross. He was easily one of the greatest and likable personalities in the WWE.

shows up in TNA
BAH GAWD ITS JR. ITS JR. JR! seriously though, he is so good at announcing, not that it needed to be said - its obvious. I don't know what WWE thinks when they don't use him. If he went to TNA I might actually watch lol |

he can't that is why he is forced to just believe the 43 year old guy roleplaying as an 18 year girl who is roleplaying as a 14 year old girl to get off |

Just reading Ryan Clarks 'Breaking Update - x2' as to why he was 'fired', great reading. He manages to make the same 3 points and re-word them to make 10 different sub-points. Journalism at its best.
JR's WWE Legacy: 20 years of subtle humiliation and downright disrespect.

The feedback I've received re: my @WWE retirement has been amazing. Heartfelt thanks to all. I'm ready 4 the next adventure. If this is Flairs fault....Fuck you Flair
Fuck that 2kSports loved what Flair did. Whoooooooo!
Have to admit, my heart jumped a bit when I visited WWE.com and the first thing I saw was a large picture of Jim Ross and a small bit of text beside it. Then I saw it was just a retirement announcement and chilled out.
It wasn't his fault flair was drunk. They should fire flair. Oh wait. Flair won 16 titles in a fake business.

AJ Lee's shooting straight tonight

I just read some of that post on the main page.... it just sounds too insane to be true.
And on top of it... what the hell was Jim Ross "fired" from? Doesn't he just do the occasional interview and voiceover stuff? It all sounds retarded IMO |

I remember I went to check out WWE.com and I saw a large picture of Eddie and some text but I didn't bother reading the text as I automatically assumed that it was just some sort of article on him or something. I check out WWE.com a bit more and I do other things, until later in the night I go back to WWE.com and see the same picture but the text catches my eye this time and I read it and I was left completely shocked. |
man jr was so disrespected and humiliated
he kept coming back his fault |

For 20 years his medical conditions and appearance have been mocked on the reg. Give me a break. This falls into the "No matter what the side is, Tedious will always side with anyone as long as its against the standard." Add this to your list of despicable people and acts you "defend". |
Ever notice its different if someone makes fun of their own family/wife as opposed to someone elses family?
Also cant remember how many times a 10 minute segment where people pulled things out of Vince's ass happened? maybe you can remind me.
Or how many times Vince McMahon has been fired in his home town.
Or kicked in the dick Literally and Figuratively by multiple people on live TV.
Having a heavy salary as a color commentator and being a part in segments of ridicule isn't so bad if you think about it. I'll take a 6 figure paycheck just to get kicked in the balls or fired from my hometown any day.

Why is JR the only guy who gets this "oh poor baby" treatment? Why isn't WWE decried for the humiliating things Michael Cole has been put through? What about the things that Bobby Heenan went through? There's a guy who was made to look like a complete ass on TV time and time again. How about Patterson and Brisco as Vince's stooges? I don't remember JR ever being tossed into a garbage truck a la Eric Bischoff... who incidentally also got face-raped by Mae Young at least once. Bobby Heenan and Jerry Lawler mercilessly verbally assaulted Bret Hart's parents for months on end. Mick Foley? How much of his career was made in WWE by being humiliated and looking pathetic? I could go on. But oh, that's right, having a disability inoculates you against that, right? Can't make fun of the handicapped... well unless you're Zack Gowan of course. Unless you're basically anybody else. Just not JR. Because he's special apparently. And none of this on-screen "humiliation" comes anywhere close to the kind of stuff that happened backstage for real in the territory days that so many people dry-hump on a consistent basis. You take the good with the bad. You take the money, you play the part. JR could have walked a long time ago. But you know what, I have a feeling he sits back in his house knowing he's never going to want for anything and he's set for life, and it isn't due to his work for Jim Crockett or Bill Watts, it's his work for Vince McMahon. WWE consistently puts JR over as the greatest announcer in wrestling history. That is going to be his legacy. The only people who will see JR's legacy as one of humiliation and disrespect are the people who want a reason to hate Vince McMahon. You're on on-screen talent, you're a character. If you can't understand that and have to personalize everything, then you're a mark, plain and simple. And if Jim Ross didn't like what happened to his on-screen character, then he should have headed on home. |

I pretty much agree with Tedious, insomuch as if it really weren't cool to be the ass end of jokes for 20 years, I'm sure JR would have had something to say about it long before now. Hell, something as serious as Lawler dropping dead from a heart attack is now open season on the announce table. I would assume if Jerry were raw about the subject matter, that would never happen on air as comfortably as it has in random banter, or nearly as often. Paul Bearer's ACTUAL DEATH was used to add drama to an Undertaker angle. Everytime they went to Oklahoma, they make it a point to a) bring out Ross for the hometown pop, and b) use his noteriety to try to get someone some heat for beating up on the homer. If he truly wasn't down for that, I'm sure we wouldn't have had nearly as many "JR appreciation nights" as we have seen in the last 10-15 years.
The only time I ever remember anyone making fun of JR was truly considered in completely poor taste by and large is when Ed Ferrara did it in WCW. In that case, its like the difference between you playfully calling your gay brother a "fucking homo", as opposed to some random stranger in the street doing the same thing. It doesn't equate. |
But yeah, for the record, I'd endure any of JR's supposed humiliations and disrespect for the chance to be at the center of the wrestling world for 20 years and have a literal ringside seat for and play an integral role in some of the greatest moments of its history. I'd be happy to play the on-screen role of a guy who gets shit on by a cruel boss if it afforded me the opportunity to have the unique and priceless experiences Jim Ross has had.

Now instead of being set aflame by Kane, good ol' JR will be "fired" in a cauldron by Texas cannibals this Halloween. Slathered in his own BBQ sauce, no less!
And nothing of value was lost.
