True Detective

surprised this hasn't come up yet given the channel/who's involved etc, been looking forward to it for a while, HBO show with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. "Been around" for about 6 months but the trailers are all out now and it's starts Sunday

RoXer 01-08-2014 04:43 PM

Me too but I think this another one I'll "binge" instead of wait week to week

Impeccable 01-08-2014 07:43 PM

Looks pretty damn cool. Will defo check it out.

Corporate CockSnogger 01-13-2014 10:22 AM

This was great. Always just want to hug Woody Harrelson

The Destroyer 01-13-2014 05:29 PM

Meant to be good, but I'll just wait for it to hit Sky Atlantic before watching it.

Skippord 01-14-2014 03:29 AM

guys, this is so good,

FUCKING MCCONAUGHEY YOU GUYS

slik 01-14-2014 03:40 AM

This looks amazing.

Don't have HBO so might have to wait until it shows up on Netflix.

The Destroyer 01-14-2014 05:51 AM

Except HBO rarely seems to put its shows on Netflix, so you might be in for a long wait.

Krimzon7 01-14-2014 10:55 PM

HBO never really puts shows on Netflix...Theres this thing called HBO Go that they're pushing down peoples throats.

Blitz 01-14-2014 11:40 PM

First ep was so good...McConaughey.......

"I don't sleep. I just dream"

Krimzon7 01-15-2014 12:11 AM

The only exception I can think of is Rome, which is probably only on there as it was a co-production.

CSL 01-17-2014 12:10 PM

yeah, this was every bit as good as I hoped it would be

RP 01-21-2014 11:37 AM

Alexandria Daddario's tits were every bit as good as I hoped.

Impeccable 01-23-2014 09:43 AM

That was amazing

Blitz 01-24-2014 12:19 AM

I feel like I witnessed a scene that featured the implication of Woody Harrelson eating Alexandria Daddario's butthole and I'm more than fine with it.

Corporate CockSnogger 02-13-2014 07:39 PM

Hey yo, this weeks episode was pretty amazing and over the top yet still had that subtle brilliance to it. That whole uncut scene at the end was really well done. Apparently the next two episodes are really fast paced like this one too.

CSL 02-13-2014 07:45 PM

already the best show on the televisions, has been since pretty much the 1st ep

Corporate CockSnogger 02-13-2014 08:03 PM

On the real. Seems ridiculously early to be putting this on The Wire/The Sopranos/Breaking Bad levels but... This seriously could be on that kind of level.

Blitz 02-13-2014 08:56 PM

Just keeps getting better, really.

Blitz 02-13-2014 08:57 PM

Honestly every episode so far as been an improvement over the previous one.

Ol Dirty Dastard 02-13-2014 11:47 PM

yeah so dope, maybe even like it better than game of thrones. MAYBE

RP 02-14-2014 10:10 AM

You guys need to slow down.

Krimzon7 02-14-2014 11:36 AM

Better than The Wire? Better than GoT? Better than Boardwalk Empire(havent watched this series yet but will)? You guys are gushing a fucking Shit ton of praise upon this show. This season is great, but let's just be content to just say THAT for now.

CSL 02-14-2014 11:55 AM

it's better than Game of Thrones but I'm completely "meh" about that show. Also, Iggy said "could be on that kind of level". Pretty tentative. The only other shows that I make sure to see every week that are currently running/not on a break/in between seasons are this, The Walking Dead and Psych. So I stand by "best show currently on TV".

Krimzon7 02-14-2014 12:01 PM

I can appreciate your opinion on Game of Thrones, it's not for everybody. With that being understood, I can see why you'd argue that POV. After rereading Iggy's post, I understand what he's saying a bit better...and it makes a helluva discussion.

Not to thread jack...but Every episode of Psych that I've seen I have absolutely loved. For whatever reason, I haven't managed to watch it regularly. WTF is wrong with me? Defintely adding Psych to my 'need to binge' list.

CSL 02-14-2014 12:05 PM

c'mon son, you know damn well you need to watch all of Psych as soon as possible

Krimzon7 02-14-2014 12:06 PM

Another question...what is the feeling about shows that film anthology seasons like this and American Horror Story?

Ol Dirty Dastard 02-14-2014 02:02 PM

I didn't say it was better than game of thrones, I just am enjoying it as much if not more. I'm not making any grand declaration.

Nark Order 02-16-2014 01:32 PM

MC looks so much like a young Bill Nye in this.

I think it's incredible. It is kind of funny that many of us are uncomfortable with having a defined beginning and end to a story because it isn't the norm for modern television.

Gone Mad 02-17-2014 01:56 AM

Really loving this show, seriously. Ever since Breaking Bad ended, it's been hard to start a new series.

Only 5 episodes in, my nerves are a mess and captivated to see where this is going. True Detective is def a must watch.

weather vane 02-27-2014 04:53 AM

Show is electric. Cannot wait for Sunday.

Bobholly138 02-27-2014 03:35 PM

I need to start watching this. A good friend was an extra in a few scenes. Slik I am sure you know who I am talking about.

Yeah. Me and my two buddies always watch it together, but last week I had it downloaded and had to make myself wait for them. Show is habit forming.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if Woody Harrelson signed on to this show just for the incredibly attractive women he gets to pretend to nail.

weather vane 02-28-2014 01:12 AM

Any theories on anything?

Krimzon7 02-28-2014 08:32 AM

I theorize that these last two episodes will be amazing. and that one of Woody's daughters is caught up by the yellow king.

RP 03-02-2014 03:33 AM

My theory is that I'm no so much mesmerized by the acting as I am of Alexandria Daddario's tits.

Krimzon7 03-02-2014 03:04 PM

They showed them, like ONCE...come on bro make a gif and get back to the show.

Hanso Amore 03-02-2014 11:22 PM

Best show in years

weather vane 03-03-2014 05:48 PM

That episode was electric.

Blitz 03-04-2014 01:17 AM

Definitely afraid that people are hyping it up too much and that they'll be big backlash if it doesn't end "the right way". Honestly think people are expecting some massive twist and it doesn't really seem like it's heading that way.

neways still a near perfect show.

RP 03-04-2014 05:19 AM

My theory is that Alexandria Daddarrios tits are doing the murdering.

RP 03-04-2014 05:23 AM

But I need to see them in a lineup to be 100% sure.

Just started watching yesterday, meant to watch one episode, watched 3 in a row.

On episode 4 now.

DrA 07-12-2014 02:04 AM

It took me a couple of episodes to get into it, but I started to really like it. I actually don't think I've done a complete turnaround on a show as fast as I did with this one.

slik 07-12-2014 02:32 AM

About to start episode six.

Doesn't feel like a tv series. Seems like an 8 hour film.

The episode that really hooked me...I don't remember the number, but it was basically like a fast version of Training Day.

RP 07-12-2014 02:46 AM

I agree with everything Alexandria Daddario related that RP said.

Corporate CockSnogger 07-12-2014 03:45 AM

Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are allegedly in advanced talks for season 2.

Skippord 07-12-2014 04:18 AM

This television show won't do shit at the box office then

slik 07-13-2014 02:59 AM

Just started the last episode.

Damn near perfect so far.

slik 07-13-2014 04:00 AM

but the first was brilliant.

Second Season:

Collin Farrell and Vince Vaughn confirmed for two of the leads. Rachel McAdams most likely the female lead.

Interesting read

Triple A 06-22-2015 02:38 AM

does any1 know what happened in that episode

Who was the guy Colin Farrell attacked when he put on the mask... was that his wife's rapist or w/e... looked different from the pic Vince Vaughn gave him...

What was Vince Vaughn's entire storyline... didn't understand anything at all about what was going on with him...

And that other cop, the generic looking white guy, he was the guy who got a BJ from that actress or w/e and got suspended I guess right...

Triple A 06-22-2015 02:48 AM

Also who was that "Casper" guy and y is he important

Boondock Saint 06-22-2015 07:53 AM

The dude he beat up was the journalist writing the 8-part article about the city's corruption. At the end, he tells Vaughn that the guy won't be finishing the article. Clearly doing a favor that Vaughn alluded to in the flashback about the wife's rapist etc.

The Caspere dude was the City manager, pretty much overseeing the whole speed-rail project that Vaughn's mobster-esque character has money in/plans on benefiting from.

The other dude got suspended, yes. He clearly needs some viagra due to something in his past that messed him up

That's what I deduced from the episode, anyway.

RP 06-22-2015 04:14 PM

I thought the girl detective wanted buttsex at the beginning.

slik 06-22-2015 06:36 PM

need to watch this later...

slik 06-29-2015 02:29 AM

Anyone else watching this?

Really liking season 2 so far.

slik 06-29-2015 02:51 AM

Holy fuck the end of the second episode.

RP 07-05-2015 09:21 PM

If Colin Farrel is somehow alive, I'm calling bullshit. He probably had a vest on.

Triple A 07-08-2015 12:28 AM

The dialogue feels bad / corny...

Like Vince Vaughn's character is written to use bad grammar like a "dumb mobster" but then he will use all these "big words" and say some really long "cleverly written" thing... feels annoying... feels like Colin Farrell is the only one who "pulls off" the bad dialogue... everyone else feels so unnatural...

Still gonna just watch it though, probably will end up liking it.

slik 07-08-2015 11:00 PM

I like it. Feels more industrial/grounded and more noir than last year, less philosophical.

Sixx 07-10-2015 09:49 PM

It sure ain't as good as season 1, not yet at least. Episode 3 was a bit better but it's still not as great as the previous season. I remember staying up all night just to watch the whole series last year, now I wouldn't do that, unless it improves.

Triple A 07-13-2015 05:09 AM

Finally some action.........

slik 07-13-2015 05:57 PM

yeah, good shoot-out in episode 4

Sixx 07-13-2015 06:00 PM

Yah, that was bloody.

Loving this season... Excited for Sunday

Triple A 07-27-2015 04:08 AM

What was that party/orgy thing they were at... why were they at that

Who is the girl they "rescued"... her "missing person" from what...

What was Vince Vaughn trying to find out from that other lady that got killed... who was she

anyone know... lemme know please

Triple A 07-27-2015 04:10 AM

who are the people Vince Vaughn was consoling... the woman and boy...

SPOILER: show
The woman and the kid Vaughn was consoling was the family of one of his thugs, Stan, they found dead in a warehouse or something a few episodes ago, supposedly killed by Mexicans.

Vaughn was looking for the girl that pawned the stuff from Caspere's house, Caspere being the guy murdered in the first episode, with whom that whole investigation started, he was the city manager and he had Vaughn's money when he died. Vaughn is looking for a disc that belonged to Caspere, with recordings of a lot of higher-ups involved in orgies and whatnot. He was promised a deal on the railroad (even though his money was lost with Caspere's death) if he can retrieve it.

The girl they rescued was the missing sister of a Mexican (I think?) lady they met during their investigation in the first episode. The lady cop was investigating, that woman told her her sister's been missing and she promised to find her.

Those parties are crucial to the plot, with all the richfolk involved and to be fair I'm kinda confused about this by now. It's something about those diamonds they are looking for but I'm no longer certain what that's about, someone else should probably explain this better.

Triple A 07-27-2015 05:15 PM

Thank you

Corporate CockSnogger 07-27-2015 05:54 PM

It seems like this season they've just concentrated too much on the boring personal lives of the main characters, and the actual plot of the case is just background noise. I don't think I even know what the main plot is for this season. Like, generally know nothing about it.

The Destroyer 07-27-2015 06:17 PM

Some guy got murdered. He was probably corrupt. That's all I remember, so I think you've got a point.

Corporate CockSnogger 07-27-2015 06:23 PM

So Colin Farrell has anger issues and loves his lil chubby ginger son who isn't really his son and his family don't really want him to see his son.

Rachel McAdams has a pornstar sister and hippy father and she's struggling to be the "straight shooter" of the family.

Tayler Kitsch is a secret bender

Vince Vaughn is a gangster of some kind. Dunno. Colin Farrell owes him a favour.

Main plot - I have no idea at all.

Triple A 07-27-2015 06:38 PM

Does anyone know why they were at that rich people party...

GD 07-29-2015 06:47 AM

Childhood flashbacks. Her father used to throw parties like that when she was a kid and she got lured into a van by some hippie.

the show has too many characters this season but I still like it

slik 08-04-2015 11:21 AM

even though I like the second season of True Detective, I can admit the dialogue is pretty bad...going to share some of my favorite lines with everyone.

“He looks half anaconda, half great white.”

“You like to bully kids, ASS-pen? You’re 12 years old and you’re already evil as fuck.”

“You don’t want to look hungry. Never do anything out of hunger. Not even eating.”

“If you ever bully or hurt anybody again, I’ll come back and butt fuck your father with your mom’s headless corpse on this goddamn lawn.”

If you read aloud from, say, a thesaurus or a Mad Libs filled in by a 10-year-old, you would probably spew out something like the lines delivered in True Detective 2. The show's script, at points, sounds like it was written by someone who read a bunch of Smart Books and then tried to sound like them without much understanding of their words or meaning.

Most of the lines in the show feel like they're written for 18 year old boys who have smoked pot for the first time in college, with a Che poster above them while Bob Marley's Legend is playing.
