Wrestlers you are a fan of that most people don't like.

For me it is Bob Holly. I saw one of his first matches when he was working the Gulf Coast area. He sometimes gets unfairly shit on. Plus his book is as good as Foley and Jericho's first books.

James Steele 02-19-2014 09:39 PM

Triple H

Anybody Thrilla 02-19-2014 10:26 PM

I was always a Chris Masters fan.

Anybody Thrilla 02-19-2014 10:27 PM

I remember how upset people got when he broke Stevie Richards' nose, who oddly enough was one of those guys that people seem to like that I never did.

Phillip Brooks 02-19-2014 10:40 PM

This thread is shit, and is totally ripping off my Stables thread.

Bad News Gertner 02-19-2014 10:40 PM

Viscera and Mideon, Ryback (don't understand why people don't like him, but whatever), loved JBL, my fav wrestler ever, Heath Slater, Disco Inferno, RYBAXEL!!!

Shisen Kopf 02-19-2014 11:19 PM

Tatanka

Shisen Kopf 02-19-2014 11:20 PM

And Crash Holly RIP

Vis is great. Plus was a super nice guy.

Bad News Gertner 02-20-2014 12:05 AM

I love big fat wrestlers, except for Kaitlyn. Basically because I was 6"6 300 plus growing up so I loved seeing Viscera squash guys..

The master lock challenge was pretty cool and I was always wondering who would be the first to break out

Anybody Thrilla 02-20-2014 12:38 AM

Who was the first to break it? I forget.

Lashley.

On topic, Test. I mentioned this in another thread, but I'm pretty sure I was the only person I knew who always liked the guy.

Also Jeff Jarrett.

Triple H
Jeff Jarrett
Test
The Miz
Kronik
Buff Bagwell
Goldberg?

Bobholly138 02-20-2014 02:53 AM

I was shocked at how ripped Masters is in person. And how cheap he works. I figured he would get way more to work a match.

Bobo 02-20-2014 09:51 AM

Tamina, Molly holly, Ivory, Victoria, Beth Phoenix, Goldberg, Christian, Norman Smiley,

Bobo 02-20-2014 09:52 AM

Angela Fong and Nidia.

Seth82 02-20-2014 10:16 AM

definitely Jeff Jarrett.

and possibly Shane Douglas??

Bad News Gertner 02-20-2014 10:42 AM

Douglas went from being boring as fuck to being pretty good. Hated his belly to belly suplex finisher. Loved the Pittsburgh Plunge.

DaveBrawl 02-20-2014 10:49 AM

JJ, Kiss Demon, Sin Cara?, Kanyon, Crowbar, Kronik, basically most of WCW's midcard in the late 90's-00.

I actually liked that as a finisher, Franchise is great though.

Brigstocke 02-20-2014 01:33 PM

Monty Brown... Nobody liked that guy in TNA even though he was the 'uberface' at the top of their card at the time..

Bobholly138 02-20-2014 01:45 PM

Another guy I loved that no one talks about is the California Hippie Mike Boyette. When he died last year most people had no idea who he was.

I knew who he was.

I liked his run in Mid South with the losing streak angle.

Jannettyzilla 02-20-2014 07:33 PM

Meng. Late in his WCW run when he was just Tongan Death Gripping everyone. It was amazing.

el bobbo 02-20-2014 09:09 PM

Maybe it's just me, but for me Ryback's latest "troll" persona is really fucking funny. I also really liked Hardcore Holly and the "Don't Piss Me Off" incarnation of Jeff Jarrett.

I didn't realize that people hate Tatanka. The Mountie and Glacier need to go into the hall of fame.

NoRoolz 02-20-2014 09:37 PM

I'd never have guessed yours was Bob Holly, bobholly138.

I liked him too though, great dropkick, great hair.

I'm gonna bring up Gangrel again. Blonde quasi-vampire in a shirt saaaay nothing. Best European champ ever.

Only a handful of us here carry on Tatanka's legacy and hope that others spend their time on the Network getting to know the casino owner in action

He did have a pretty sweet dropkick

Damian Rey 02-20-2014 11:34 PM

I liked Hardcore Holly for a while. He never got any use until Lesnar broke his neck. At that point I didn't care for him as much, but yeah, his dropkick was gorgeous.

Lol here's the thing: you have Sabu putting guys through tables, guys smacking ech other with chairs and shit and it gets a two count. Old 240 pound Shane starts using a belly to belly and beats guys left and right.

Bad News Gertner 02-20-2014 11:42 PM

Always thought Larry Zbyszko was a fantastic heel. That stalling shit he did in the AWA pissed off the crwod so much.

I remember he fought boxer turned ref Scott Ledoux and despite Scott never wrestling it was amazing. Scott would do one move and Larry would roll out of the ring and stall and shit talk the crowd. It was awesome. Crowd HATED him.

Heisenberg 02-21-2014 12:07 AM

Zbyszko was awesome in WCW/nWo Revenge. Called him Shitty Nabisco

Macho Man was Nacho Bitch Randy Savage

BigCrippyZ 02-21-2014 12:09 AM

Test - Always felt he had a great look and was solid and underrated on the mic and in the charisma and acting depts. when having to compete with HHH, Rock, Austin, etc.

Meng - The guy just was and seemed so legit bad ass and scary.

Ultimo Dragon & Psicosis - Don't know how much these guys were really liked or disliked but I feel like they don't always get the credit they deserve and I loved them both in WCW. The guys could just go in the ring and brought a style and excitement to wrestling I had never seen before at the time.

Glacier - The build, vignettes and look of the character were pretty cool at the time and for a while I thought Glacier was awesome and now I can appreciate what they were trying to do with him.

Hardcore Holly - I've always felt he was insanely solid in the ring, had a good look and build and he had a constant intensity that made everyone he worked with look great or even better.

Bad News Gertner 02-21-2014 03:09 AM

Everyone knows my love of Meng. Guy is the biggest bad ass in wrestling history.

Loved Test when he was with Stacy.

One more: I LOVED Barry Darsow in WCW in the late 90's. He was a loudmouth heel and I thought he was hilarious.

I figured you would know him Seth. I watched that Paul Boesch Documentary you linked to. What a great documentary. The furniture store that sponsored it is where my now ex-wife and I got our bedroom set.

With Mike Boyette, the first time I saw him my parents kept talking about watching him versus the Fields brothers at the Gulfport Armory. They use to go almost every week with my paternal grandparents. I think that was the old Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling fed. When I was around 4 or 5 months old,my grandparents were babysitting me. It was Saturday night so they took me to the armory because they were not going to miss the weekly wrestling shows. I am really surprised no indy is running the Alabama/Mississippi gulf coast region. Last year for 5 months EPW was running Kiln and Bay St Louis. And drawing good crowds. But the owner is an idiot and fucked over the two places they ran on money. So now most venues don't want to bother with wrestling.

Huge fan of Meng. I love all the stories about how tough he is. It seems the only person connected to pro wrestling that is tougher than Meng is the Barbarian's wife.

Bob should have gotten a IC or US title run. I hate lots of the IWC hates on him. Mostly based on the Tough Enough incident. But all they know is what they were shown. All the students and the trainers have talked about how the guy Bob roughed up was disrespecting the trainers. Bob was trained in the old southern wrestling way. Where if you disrespected your trainer or a vet you got the holy hell beat out of you.

But the same IWC people try to claim that Bob sandbagged Brock. How the hell could he do that. Brock could lift Big Show up. So how could he not lift Bob.

But it seems the IWC fans that hate Bob are the same ones that try to make excuses for the evil shit Chris Benoit did. And are normally the same fans that don't seem to understand that while Hogan was never that great in the ring,he did the thing that a good wrestler should do. He sold tickets. That is the one thing a good wrestler should do.All the moves in the world mean shit if the fans aren't buying a ticket to see you.

Bob's Falcon Arrow AKA the Holly-caust was also a great move.Bob is a guy that if the territories were still around would have been a much bigger star. He is like a modern day Dick Murdoch.

Not only was Molly a great wrestler. But she is supposedly one of the nicest people in wrestling. And she had a natural beauty to her. No need for implants.

I have been a fan of Jeff Jarrett since the USWA on ESPN days. While he has never been great on the mic,in the ring he is good. He is a guy that needed a good mouthpiece. It is sad that besides Paul Heyman, managers are pretty much dead in WWE and TNA. Wildkat Sports and Powerslam Pro have a great manager in Hardbody Harper. I have seen him come out and in less than a minute get the entire crowd booing him. And this was a crowd where maybe 5 people knew who he was.

I'm glad you liked the Paul Boesch documentary. :)

yep he was a big star for the Gulf Coast territory.

Gulf Coast Wrestling was huge back then with the local fans. Such stars as The Fields brothers, Cowboy Bob Kelly, Ken Lucas, Rip Tyler & others.

Mike never really broke out as a star anywhere else other than there that I can recall.

I did like him as Apocalypse in Memphis. He was managed by a young Jim Cornette in his rookie year.

Classic Gulf Coast Wrestling
Rip Tyler vs Cowboy Bob Kelly

When Mike Boyette died I found on youtube part of a match where it was him teaming up with a young Bob Holly. I wish there was more footage out there of the 70s GCCW. I always hear how great it was.

Zack Ryder

JBL (announcer) - He can be a bit annoying but still fits better with Cole than Lawler does. Also helps to think that a lot of his annoying stuff is likely because Vince is feeding him those lines.

X-Pac

I was a pretty big X-Pac fan...

Bobholly138 02-22-2014 03:41 AM

As a kid I always loved Boris Zukoff. Then in 96 I found out a friend of a friend lived with him over in Alabama. Got to meet him. He was a truck driver at the time. And his head is even bigger in person.
