Who Wins the Andre the Giant Battle Royale?

Hey guys,

This match seems like a way to get everyone who does not have a match at WrestleMania on the card, but who do you think will win this inaugural battle royale?

My bets are on The Big Show. He seems like the guy to best pay tribute to Andre's legacy.

#1-norm-fan 03-15-2014 02:46 AM

Fandango

2-0

#1-norm-fan 03-15-2014 02:48 AM

Having to say that in a joking matter makes me sad to think how after last year Fandango winning a battle royal the next year would have sounded completely reasonable.

Fuck you, WWE.

Swiss Ultimate 03-15-2014 03:09 AM

Does it matter?

Swiss Ultimate 03-15-2014 03:10 AM

I mean it's not King of the Ring and it's not MITB so it really doesn't matter much. Just an excuse for people to appear on the show.

Wishbone 03-15-2014 03:24 AM

A year or two ago I would have said Big Show as I could see WWE using this as his "Finally he got his Wrestlemania moment" moment. Now, well I'm thinking it could be Big E since they seem to be trying to push him. Really I just see it being someone WWE plans on pushing for a while.

Lock Jaw 03-15-2014 03:41 AM

Like zero chance of it being anybody but Big Show

James Steele 03-15-2014 03:49 AM

I think it will be Big Show as his "WrestleMania" and a lifetime achievement award of sorts for the greatest "giant" wrestler of all time.

If WWE could somehow convince him to do it, the biggest way to make this make huge, mean something, and become an annual spectacle would be to have CM Punk be a surprise entrant and win the thing after it ends up being a grueling contest instead of just another clusterfuck battle royal. No matter who wins it (and I think it would be very appropriate and deserving for Big Show to win it), I hope they make it a great battle royal that feels special and meaningful because the quality of the match lives up to the legend it is named after.

There is no more King of the Ring and with one title now, I feel like the one Money in the Bank match will be used for an already kind of established star like Orton last year. Especially considering how horrifically bad Damien Sandow's reign and eventual cash-in was.

So I wouldn't mind this being a yearly WrestleMania tradition to do what King of the Ring did and just be a launching pad for a new star every year.

James Steele 03-15-2014 05:10 AM

If they put MITB back at Mania and had this Andre Memorial Battle Royal every year, you'd have 2 easy "spectacle" matches that get a shitload of deserving workers on the card that have much more meaning than random 6/8/10 person tags.

SlickyTrickyDamon 03-15-2014 05:33 AM

Roman Reigns. Make up for being screwed by Boo-tista.

el bobbo 03-15-2014 05:54 AM

Holy fuck. I do not want anyone to be a cynic right now. I just watched this Balls Mahoney match where he threw some dude into a flaming table.

Please link me to Japanese wrestling that is 10 times worse than this.

XL 03-15-2014 06:35 AM

Cesaro.

Vastardikai 03-15-2014 09:14 AM

Calling it Now: Cesaro will hit the Neutralizer on the Big Show.

Theo Dious 03-15-2014 09:40 AM

Big E or Cesaro. Big Show would be way too predictable.

Bad News Gertner 03-15-2014 10:50 AM

Big Show because he's Andre the Giant's son like WCW said.

Anybody Thrilla 03-15-2014 11:16 AM

I really wish I gave one single solitary fuck about this battle royal, but I just can't bring myself to do it. What is the point of this?

XL 03-15-2014 11:31 AM

I love battle royals. Even if my proposed Tag Team Battle Royal would have been better. Damn you, Hulkster!!

Vastardikai 03-15-2014 11:33 AM

To give Three Man Band, Zack Ryder, a bunch of NXT guys, and JTG a Wrestlemania payday they wouldn't normally get.

“Because TROPHIES!” basically...a 30-man over-the-top battle royal?! Nope, doesn’t sound like any other match I’ve ever heard of.:nono:

But seriously, Ryback FTW. Either that or Tatanka with a surprise appearance.

Evil Vito 03-15-2014 11:55 AM

<font color=goldenrod>Yeah, a few years ago there was a pre-WM battle royal every year to get anybody who wasn't already on the card a payday. They stopped doing it for a while but now it's back, it'll just be on the main show instead.</font>

Evil Vito 03-15-2014 12:00 PM

<font color=goldenrod>I was wondering if they'd use the battle royal as a vehicle to debut a few NXT guys but I'm not even totally sure. There are a whole shitload of guys who aren't yet booked for other matches. Depending on how they fill out the rest of the card (what they have The Shield, The Usos, etc.) do they might still be in a position where not everybody on the active roster makes it into the battle royal.</font>

Yeah, I remember those. I think the last one they did was @ WM XXIV where it was with an ECW Championship opportunity later in the night, which Kane won and then beat Chavo in 8 seconds for the strap.

But the whole 30-man idea just really seems like a blatant ripoff of the RR match with a shitty trophy instead of a main event title match at WM as the “prize”. Am I really supposed to believe there’s 30 guys that desperate to win a fucking trophy as opposed to say, oh, I dunno A FUCKING TITLE?!

Then again, Khali did win that 20-man battle royal on SD! in like 2006 or 2007 to win the vacant WHC...:n:

Vastardikai 03-15-2014 12:20 PM

It's going to be used as a vehicle to get someone over. Probably one of Cena's boys (Cesaro, Big E, or Reigns if he isn't in it), but it'll be a feather in the cap for someone on their way up the card.

Bad News Gertner 03-15-2014 12:47 PM

I'm sure the 30 people in it who wouldn't have been getting a big payday if it wasn't there don't mind.

I love me a Battle Royal. Zero problem with it. They could be fighting for Burger King coupons for all I care.

Emperor Smeat 03-15-2014 12:48 PM

El Torito

JimmyMess 03-15-2014 01:31 PM

they should give it more meaning like a title shot for the winner or something

weather vane 03-15-2014 01:32 PM

Love this idea. Love it.

Battle Royals are a lost art.

Heyman 03-15-2014 02:18 PM

I think the concept is a good one.

Dolph Ziggler should be the one booked to win if the WWE wants to do what's best for business, but they'll most likely give it to Big Show.

Burger King coupons are probably worth more than the US and IC titles.

el bobbo 03-15-2014 03:48 PM

Man. I was hammered when I made this thread. Not as hammered as I plan to be while I watch the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale though.

James Steele 03-15-2014 04:58 PM

It's a new "spectacle" type match to have at Mania that is in honor of one of the biggest icons in pro wrestling history. Winning it may not guarantee you a title shot, but it is a chance to be on WrestleMania in a "marquee" midcard match that will result in you getting more air time and some sort of push out of it. The 30 guys has more to do with it being WM30 than ripping off the Royal Rumble. Quit overthinking everything and thinking every match has to have the fate of the world hanging on it. It is really the perfect midcard match to have at a Mania and I'd rather much have them fighting in a battle royal to honor the legend of Andre The Giant than fight in a shitty 6-man tag with Snooki or Vickie Guerrero.

Shisen Kopf 03-15-2014 05:15 PM

Tatanka wins

James Steele 03-15-2014 05:23 PM

Mother fucker, Tatanka is going to cash in Peyote In The Bank at WrestleMania. He will be too busy showing bitches his "spirit animal" to be in some roody poo no-VCR needed battle royal.

What is Tatanka's spirit animal?

James Steele 03-15-2014 08:52 PM

It was a metaphor for his rhinoceros cock.

Went to load this thread, but watching TV at the same time.

On the TV it was a scene of a dude watching TV and on that TV was some nature show about Rhinos.

I turned my head back to my computer to see that image.

Savio 03-15-2014 09:23 PM

I think Big E, Cesaro and Swagger will be in a triple threat for the intercontinental title.

HHH should have made Bryan win the Battle Royal atthe start of WM in order to face him in the middle to win to be in the main event.

#1-norm-fan 03-15-2014 11:26 PM

HHH should have just made Daniel Bryan go through the entire roster in separate one on one matches in an unprecidented 24 hour pre-show before facing them all again in a battle royal at the beginning of the show in order to get himself inserted into the Taker-Lesnar match which he needs to win in order to face Triple H and then win that one in order to get into a non-title match with Batista and Orton which he needs to win in order to get into the title match.

I think I've seen that match before. I remember when I was 12ish that one of my sister's boyfriend was a hardcore wrestling fan (tape trading and everything). One time he got in deep shit because he loaned me some of those horrible ICP japanese hardcore wrestling tapes. I mainly wanted to watch it because it had the infamous Funk/Foley "King of the Deathmatch" match on there. #WrestlingMemories

ron the dial 03-16-2014 12:13 AM

Stranglemania used to be my shit when i was a hardcore juggalo

Tom Guycott 03-16-2014 12:13 AM

Honestly, I just hope whoever wins the thing makes a big deal out of it like Owen did being a "2 time Slammy award winner" or Regal's power trip after his KotR victory. I also hope the trophy is life sized, and the winner carries it around like Crash Holly's scale.

James Steele 03-16-2014 12:18 AM

I think WWE will treat it like a huge fucking deal. Vince has never thrown around Andre The Giant's legacy around willy nilly and has always treated him with great reverence.

Mr. Nerfect 03-16-2014 02:05 AM

Adam Rose, who looks like he gets eliminated in the middle of the match, but his party catches him and crowd surfs him around with a referee following him to make sure his feet never hit the floor. He then returns when there is one guy left, and Rose manages to eliminate that heel and win the whole thing. And the World Goes Wild. Woo!

Unless Cesaro is in the match. Then Cesaro wins it. But I think that he'll get a singles spot with Swagger. That feud has been interesting enough to warrant a spot on the card. Either that or they'll team together in some sort of multi-team match for the Tag Team Titles.

Krimzon7 03-16-2014 02:27 AM

Fuck you all. Fuck each and every single one of you who didn't say Dolph Ziggler.

The right answer is DOLPH ZIGGLER.

DOLPH ZIGGLER!

Kinda hoping we get a few surprises like they usually do for Rumble, Maybe a Carlito since his dad going in HOF night before that sorta thing. If Cesaro does end up in this he should win it. If not him, Ziggler is an amazing choice to get the rub off this as well. Something tells me Big Show or Khali *puke* wins this just for being "Giants"

Asmo 03-17-2014 10:07 AM

So will this have all contestants in the ring before the match begins? Which would remove "surprise" entrants, right?

How do you time schedule such a match? Even a 30 second break between entrants stretches it to at least 20 minutes, with 5 minutes of extra in-ring action.

All contestants will be in the ring to start. It's a filler match as far as people are concerned, so it's up to the performers to make good use of their window
