BREAKING NEWS: Major TNA spoilers !!!

Near the end of the match, Magnus hit a Michinoku driver for a close two count. Magnus then went to the floor, grabbed the title and brought it into the ring. The ref tried to take it, did and Magnus hit a low blow as the ref’s back was turned, Magnus covered again for a two count. Magnus then picked up Young, off the ropes and a crucifix by Young for another close two count. Young then hit a piledriver for the 1…2…3. Eric Young is your new champion!
Young appeared to break down in tears as Borash announced him as the new world champion. The show then went off the air.
COMMENTARY: As I said on my Facebook page, Eric Young is clearly WWE’s version of Daniel Bryan. He’s over HUGE with the live crowd(s), has the massive beard, etc. TNA obviously can see the success it’s had for WWE … and it seems like they are trying to capitalize in their own way … the week after WrestleMania where D-Bryan won the WWE title. It’s actually a smart business move. I like it … but they shouldn’t have done the title change tonight. They should have started the build as they did tonight … and have him “chase” the title for the next few weeks or months … build him up as the underdog and then eventually have him win the title if the live crowds run with it and get behind him. TNA likes to rush things (as does WWE) and they did it tonight.
Also, if something works for the biggest wrestling company in the world, you try to capitalize off it in your own way. Both companies have taken ideas from each other for YEARS now … it works both ways. I like it a lot. I was hoping they’d have Young chase the title and not rush it. Build him up as a major underdog … get the fans invested and then do the title change several weeks or months from now. Eric Young has a TON of potential. Really good in-ring worker and great on the stick. He’s got “it”.

Shisen Kopf 04-11-2014 01:06 AM

Yeah. I think world champion in TNA is equivalent to the assistant to the head of catering in WWE

Razzamajazz 04-11-2014 01:10 AM

once upon a time there was an alternative to wwe...

GD 04-11-2014 01:26 AM

As per the dirtsheets, Brian Hebner was not aware of the decision. It is believed that the decision was that of Dixie Carter and not Magnus. The only people to know about the title change (before hand), were Dixie, Magnus and Eric. Have you guys seen the "shocked Magnus guy" yet? Top notch meme material.

#1-norm-fan 04-11-2014 01:31 AM

lol. Well I guess it's a step up from "TNA World Champion: Chris Sabin".

Tazz Dan 04-11-2014 01:31 AM

Apparently Dixie missed the main event as she had gone to hospital after the previous match with Bully Ray, who had suffered a concussion and wondered why the fuck he still worked for TNA.

Lock Jaw 04-11-2014 01:33 AM

If I can be serious for a minute.... this was a pretty good episode of Impact Wrestling.

Lock Jaw 04-11-2014 01:35 AM

I, for one, will definitely be tuning in next week to see what they do with Eric Young.

Tazz Dan 04-11-2014 01:38 AM

Eric Young is a 'World Champion'. RVD made a grand return. Christian isn't on TV. How does this make you feel?

Shisen Kopf 04-11-2014 01:40 AM

Can't wait until TNA has a hall of fame. First induction: the two extra ropes they used to have on their ring.

Both former TNA World Champions.

Tazz Dan 04-11-2014 01:41 AM

Hate to break it to you. But they do. The first inductee was WWE's latest signing.

Lock Jaw obviously hasn't replied because he is huddled in a corner somewhere, rocking back and forth while crying.

Lock Jaw 04-11-2014 01:52 AM

THINK AGAIN

slik 04-11-2014 01:53 AM

my initial reaction is "this is stupid".

...seems like the equivalent of making Santino WWE World Champ.

slik 04-11-2014 01:57 AM

Part of me wonders if they did it so they wouldn't be too overshadowed by anything WWE did this week and Jeff Jarrett's announcment.

Part of me wonders if they realized Daniel Bryan and Eric Young both have beards and picked a guy with a beard to piggyback on Daniel Bryan's popularity.

Not sure.

Lock Jaw 04-11-2014 02:01 AM

Eric Young has been built up as legit tough the past few weeks. In addition to still kind of crazy. I would have built him up some more before taking the title, but in a way this is good too just because of the "surprise"/"shock"/"anything can happen in TNA" factor.

I was not a fan at all of Magnus' title reign. For the first time since it began I am excited to tune into TNA next week.

Pretty much this. Eric Young just needs to come up with a chant and he's TNA's Daniel Bryan.

They can only do that so much though before the shock goes away and it devalues the title even more as opposed to making it something worth caring about when someone wins it.

Chris Sabin winning it was only like 9 months ago.

Should have happened, dammit!

Even the smark crowd wanted Santino over Bryan. Fucking WrestleMania level pop at an Elimination Chamber PPV.

Lock Jaw 04-11-2014 02:16 AM

The Chris Sabin one was dumb, yeah..... but Eric Young is more credible than Chris Sabin (which, granted, is not hard to do).

Guy with epic beard wins the World Championship....

VSG 04-11-2014 02:23 AM

WWE's version of Daniel Bryan is Daniel Bryan.

#1-norm-fan 04-11-2014 02:34 AM

lol @ Taz in the first 11 seconds of that video. Going a bit too far with the "This match is definitely over so I'm gonna treat it as so and change my tone to a more careless one. Might start thinking about where I'm gonna go for dinner tonight. I hear there's a good restaurant up the highwa-WHA???" thing.

FourFifty 04-11-2014 03:21 AM

Good for Eric Young.
Still can't care less about TNA.

Black Widow 04-11-2014 04:44 AM

You mean to tell me that a short, bearded man went through 2 matches in 1 night to become World Champion? Where have I seen that?

Heisenberg 04-11-2014 09:14 AM

I thought they were still showing the tapings they have thru 2016?

I was 35% interested in this, big EY fan, but the timing isn't very smart

Bobo 04-11-2014 11:28 AM

Oh my this is history in the making.

erickman 04-11-2014 11:50 AM

things are going good for the b+ players i think ey and bryan are twins. good to see ey gets the belt before tna goes under he had some bad story lines.

Exactly. Glad someone said it before I did. Just another copycat move by TNA. This kind of B.S. is why they can't have nice things (i.e., ratings).

Ultra Mantis 04-11-2014 02:04 PM

Hopefully he'll drop it to EC3 after a series of comedy skits where Eric and ODB attempt to teach him how to be a submission wrestler.

Emperor Smeat 04-11-2014 02:57 PM

Good for Eric Young.

Besides the similarities to Bryan, Magnus reign was also similar to Orton's on how bad it was overall.

HEY! That's completely unfair to all the Southern hicks who sit around doing nothing but drinking and meth and then unwinding after the long stressful Thursday of being lazy so they can do their part of the bargain by representing 2/3 of Impact Wrestling's weekly 0.33 (or lower) ratings. :shifty:

Not sure.

Wouldn't be much different than when Austin Aries was suddenly World Champion because he was TNA's resident CM Punk at the time.

DAMN iNATOR, please explain why you think it is the southerners who are a majority of TNA's audience.

I'm gonna assume it's because it's mainly taped in Orlando Florida, with an owner named Dixie.. Sounds pretty "kiss your sister" to me.. That being said, I'm from Arizona, an I watch tna.. So F logic

DAMN iNATOR 04-12-2014 03:45 AM

That and the fact that a shit-ton of their "home-grown" talent have some type of Southerner gimmick which is clearly aimed at that demographic.

No further explanation required. Good day, sir.

VSG 04-12-2014 04:47 AM

Hang on now, can you list out the "home-grown" talent that have southerner gimmick? Since when is being a southerner a gimmick? What is that opposed to- a northerner? You can't just leave like that with statements left that need further explanation.

MIZantine Empire 04-12-2014 05:40 AM

I can only think of James storm and aj styles.. They are two of the few originals.. Can't quite recall who else left is an original, or homegrown due to tapping out to sleep..

Bad News Gertner 04-12-2014 09:56 AM

Damninator just owned VSG.

Serioously, it's TNA. Nobody cares.

Nark Order 04-12-2014 10:39 AM

I care. Don't spoil wrestling shows in thread titles. It's a fairly reasonable request. You can "loltna" to be cool all you'd like but there are people who watch it, enjoy it, and would not like it spoiled. Thank you.

Sepholio 04-12-2014 12:44 PM

lol. DAMN iNATOR. De Derpa De Derp Derp.

Purgatory 04-12-2014 12:52 PM

I do watch TNA, but I think they see how the WWE has HUGE ratings with a bearded guy as champ, and followed suit to see how they'd do.

Pained me to say that, being an Eric Young fan, but I feel deep down this is why.

Swiss Ultimate 04-12-2014 01:24 PM

Magnus being champion was pretty much when Candace Michelle (or Kelly Kelly for divas title) was Woman's Champion. Belt doesn't mean shit anymore so anybody can win it.

Really, this title is still a spoiler. Anyone who frequents this board will assume "a promotion that you probably don't care about" is TNA. Is it really that hard to just call it "Impact discussion thread for 4/10" or something like that?

James Steele 04-13-2014 03:29 PM

Just title it "#MAJOR #TNAIMPACT #SPOILER" and be done with it. Also, quit bitching. Nobody who matters gives a fuck about TNA.

Lock Jaw 04-13-2014 03:44 PM

Okay, I changed it.

Poit 04-13-2014 06:33 PM

Thanks.

James Steele 04-13-2014 06:45 PM

Technically, Eric Young is more mainstream than anybody else in TNA and most of the WWE ,including Daniel Bryan, thanks to his show on Animal Planet.

James Steele 04-13-2014 06:45 PM

I'd mark out if Jackson Galaxy from "My Cat From HELL" made a cameo run-in on a PPV.

Lock Jaw 04-13-2014 07:28 PM

At least Eric Young won the Royal Rumble to earn his spot.

Also, I like how all it takes is Poit to request the title to be changed for it to happen, while Narc is just dumped on.

Poit 04-13-2014 07:43 PM

I'm cute and lovable.

dronepool 04-13-2014 07:44 PM

We don't need spoiler warnings for TNA.

James Steele 04-13-2014 07:52 PM

Until Narc proves to me that he hasn't slept with Tb1 and Fraze, he is on thin ice credibility wise. Too much Northern California Sexual Tension there. More sexual tension than XL and I have.

Nark Order 04-13-2014 08:43 PM

We have all definitely slept together.

Biggest TNA spoiler: Dixie Carter.

Curd 05-10-2014 01:43 AM

TNA turned MVP heel way too quickly.

Kurt Angle should do DDP Yoga to rebuild his ACL like Chris Jericho did in 2009.

I don't know about that, I think being on the main WWE roster makes you more mainstream than anyone on Animal Planet.

3MB. Name the members without googling.

Vastardikai 05-11-2014 08:55 PM

Slater, McIntyre, Mahall, and I don't know if he's an official member now, but Hornswaggle.

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-12-2014 01:13 AM

Reports are Frankie Kazarian is gone from TNA.

Mr. Nerfect 05-12-2014 08:58 AM

If I were starting up some kind of company to be a global force in wrestling, I would probably try my absolute best to snatch up Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian.

XL 05-13-2014 04:08 PM

There's no reason WWE shouldn't take Bad Influence into their tag division. You'd imagine even a low-ball offer from Vince would be better than what TNA have offered and they'd be a solid veteran presence to bring along the younger tag guys.

Poit 05-13-2014 05:00 PM

I <3 Bad Influence. Seeing them do something in WWE would be great.

SlickyTrickyDamon 05-13-2014 05:03 PM

WWE is focusing on getting talent solely from the developmental system right now. They'll have some sort of splash in Global Force if Jeff can give the right price.

Mr. Nerfect 05-19-2014 07:12 AM

New Japan needs an infusion of some talent into the Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Titles division too.
