Gotham (Fox Mondays)

screech 05-05-2014 11:40 PM

I'm intrigued. Also I'm a Benjamin McKenzie fan.

RoXer 05-06-2014 01:42 AM

I'm interested.

This and that gang/cop show with John Locke makes for a maybe promising summer lineup for FOX

Lock Jaw 05-06-2014 03:19 AM

I too am interested. Even though it is on Fox, which means it will get cancelled after two seasons max.

Kalyx triaD 05-06-2014 03:22 AM

I'm thinking season and a half, after the viewership drops about three households.

VSG 05-06-2014 04:21 AM

Asmo 05-06-2014 04:37 AM

Good trailer. Don't like the casting for Gordon though. Looks too bland, and normal. But maybe that's only because i'm used to seeing an older commissioner.

Lock Jaw 05-06-2014 05:03 AM

The show is about the origins of his mustache.... they will tease it a few times, but it won't be seen until the series finale....

Kalyx triaD 05-06-2014 05:40 AM

Gordon is fairly bland and normal looking.

Jura 05-06-2014 02:08 PM

Looks interesting. If the fans stick behind it then it will find success but if TSCC, Firefly and Almost Human are the examples of Fox having faith in comic book type/sci-fi shows then it doesn't look good.

CSL 05-06-2014 04:01 PM

looks promising, will probably be eh via most TV being eh. Bill Rawls tho

Innovator 05-06-2014 04:26 PM

Californiaaaaaaaaaa

road doggy dogg 05-06-2014 04:27 PM

I've never known Commissioner Gordon to be brooding

CSL 05-06-2014 04:37 PM

YOU'D BE BROODING TOO IF THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE DIED IN YOUR ARMS AFTER A CAR CRASH :(

CSL 05-06-2014 04:37 PM

actually had to look that up, thought she fell off a cliff or something :o

Nowhere Man 05-07-2014 02:09 PM

This could be cool, but more than anything I'm worried that we're going to get the Smallville effect, where everything happens out of order to the point where all of Batman's enemies are running around before Batman ever shows up.

The Destroyer 05-07-2014 02:13 PM

Topic title should surely be this "fall", right?

Kalyx triaD 05-07-2014 02:27 PM

Eh, I'll do it.

Lock Jaw 09-23-2014 02:08 AM

I enjoyed the pilot. Really dig the atmosphere and setting. Didn't really keep up on "the news" about this show too much, so it was cool to see Renee Montoya and Crispus Allen on the show.

On the whole, I'd say much better than what I was expecting.

Boondock Saint 09-23-2014 02:49 AM

Wasn't impressed...but I know not to judge shows off their pilot since they're shot months before, without a full writing staff, clear direction etc. I'll stick with it, see where it goes.

Disturbed316 09-23-2014 03:12 AM

Starts this weekend where I am, looking forward to it.

Damian Rey 09-23-2014 03:33 AM

Didn't enjoy it at all. Cluster fuck of a first episode. Just kept jumping from one scene to another. No build up or sizzle. Felt like they tried too hard to stuff as many characters in as they could with no reason. Catwoman just prowels around and steals for no reason, poison ivy is some kid with a scum bag for a dad, penguin turns heel after an act of kindness he begged for, and Alfred is seemingly an insensitive ass yelling at Bruce instead of trying to comfort him. Oh, and Gordon doesn't know Barbara, but she doesn't know him either.

I know it's a pilot but Christ could they slow it down and just let it burn? I lost interest about 20 minutes in. Unlikely I tune in next week.

Destor 09-23-2014 06:03 AM

A swing and a miss.

Clerk 09-23-2014 09:03 AM

Please don't tell me people are actually going to watch this. please.

screech 09-23-2014 10:13 AM

I enjoyed it, though it did move a little fast for a pilot.

JimmyMess 09-23-2014 03:03 PM

Just watched this. Enjoyed it, started off kind of shaky but it picked up towards the end, I'll continue with it.

whiteyford 09-23-2014 04:39 PM

Yeah enjoyed it.

dronepool 09-24-2014 03:14 AM

Thought it was gonna suck, hate that isn't part of CW but it was pretty good, surprised me.

Mercenary 09-24-2014 11:55 AM

I liked it. Well except for Penguin. He is to tall, and skinny

JimmyMess 09-24-2014 01:09 PM

maybe him digging into that sandwich at the end implied he will soon be a glutton and eat himself to fatness.

Fox 09-24-2014 02:01 PM

Only watched the first 5 minutes of this so far. Not loving it. Little Selina Kyle just happens to be there when Bruce's parents are shot? COME ON.

Ya know I kinda hope so cause he seems off

Nicky Fives 09-26-2014 01:31 PM

seemed okay to me, need a few more episodes to make a decision....

Ruien 09-26-2014 07:25 PM

Seemed rather good. Will tune in again next week. Love the Penguin character.

KIRA 09-26-2014 08:41 PM

the post above me sums up my feelings

VSG 09-27-2014 12:38 PM

The guy playing Penguin is the only one who impressed me so far, I am ok with him not being fuller yet.

Cuzziebro 09-30-2014 07:53 PM

The second episode was better. Penguin is easily the best character at the moment.

JimmyMess 10-01-2014 12:36 AM

Just saw this ep. Immediate thoughts:

- Penguin is awesome
- Story is getting darker, cooler
- Selina's eyes are freakishly far apart
- Some hammy acting, but solid nonetheless.

VSG 10-01-2014 01:17 AM

Yeah, Penguin is the guy on the show by far.

screech 10-01-2014 07:29 AM

Another good episode. Really digging this show so far

KIRA 10-02-2014 09:22 PM

I have never disliked Bullock so thoroughly.

Oswald is definitely the highlight. I was struck this week by how much Selina looks like Michelle Pfeiffer. A younger, much more awkward Michelle Pfeiffer, but facially they're pretty similar.

Lock Jaw 10-02-2014 09:40 PM

Yeah, been thinking that ever since the first pics of her in the role came out.

DaveBrawl 10-03-2014 09:04 AM

Noticed that myself watching it last night.

Destor 10-04-2014 09:30 AM

just got caught up...so far im very underwhelmed. I'll give it till ep 6 but as it stands its very much on the bubble.

I feel the same way... except about Montoya. She just seems like an ass here.

But all things considered (especially to the detractors about Penguin not being fat), this islike, what, 15 years before Bruce goes all cape and cowl? That's a long time; time enough fo people to change into the characters we know.

But I will say Riddler seems a bit forced. He's not even in it much, but 2 eps in and he already annoys me.

Also, unrelated, and I'm sure it's just me, but Bullock and Fish's "relationship" reminds me of Officer Mace and Nightshade from that old cartoon C.O.P.S. and that is in no small way thanks to how they look.

JimmyMess 10-06-2014 10:17 PM

Finally was able to watch an episode as it happened. I thought it was another improvement from last week.

McLegend 10-06-2014 10:38 PM

It was pretty good.

Did anyone else hear the batman theme from the Dark Knight movies during the Barbara Keen/ Renee Montaya scene in the apartment?

Very possible I was hearing things.

JimmyMess 10-06-2014 10:48 PM

I didn't hear it. I'll watch tomorrow again for it.

Cuzziebro 10-07-2014 10:01 AM

Again another good episode. Could almost see Bruce's brain ticking over.

Mercenary 10-07-2014 10:06 AM

Bullock is great!

ClockShot 10-07-2014 07:21 PM

Watched the first episode today. Enjoyed it very much.

SPOILER: show
Had to laugh when I saw the ear plug in Penguin's ear. Pretty much knew the gunshot next to the head was coming.

Destor 10-07-2014 09:56 PM

This show is basically asking me to to be excited and go "oh hey I know that character from other mediums!" Like a live action where's waldo show. It fails to be compelling beyond that. Weather Balloon man? yeah, ok, that is in no way lame at all. im very interested. please tell me more.

I do like the subplot of Barbara and the lady cop.

VSG 10-07-2014 10:08 PM

Way better than Agents of Shield was at this time imo.

Destor 10-07-2014 10:20 PM

agents of shield was very terrible at this time, that of course has no relevance to gotham at all

VSG 10-07-2014 10:36 PM

Other than the possibility of things getting better once a show hits its groove. I can already see the improvement from over the few episodes so far, especially that ridiculous pilot.

Mutant enemy (the production company behind SHIELD) has a long history of adapting to the audience. So I was never too worried about it finding its niche (though I stopped watching it after 6 episodes and decided to wait for the DVD because it was unwatchable [it became excellent about ep 18 or so {yay blu ray!}])

Gotham however I dont know about their production crew. I dont know how perceptive they are. What I do know however is they had 22 episodes ordered and 12 were filmed before the first one aired so I cant expect any improvement (and their hasnt been any for me at least) until atleast after episode 12.

Im hopeful though that it will get better. Ep 2 was better than ep 1 but ep 3 was worse than the pilot (felt it was "holy shit" level bad monday.) Maybe it will improve, theyre working in decent subplots and once they let a few of them reach a boil (see: sweeps) maybe they will show their worth as writting staff but as of right this second the show is just a string of Easter eggs while a half brained plot barely moves along daring you to turn the channel.

SlickyTrickyDamon 10-08-2014 04:04 AM

Really strange in a show about Gotham before Batman and they have cell phones and shit. Isn't Gotham supposed to be the Roaring 20s when The Wayne's are alive? Looks like they want to do a prequel but don't really want to do a prequel.

Penguin is the man of the show so far. Can't get used to OC boy being Gordon. Gotham City here I come!

Do you make the same comments about Batman movies that quite obviously don't take place in the 20s?

You're not really supposed to know what time period Gotham exists in hence all the anachronistic tech, buildings clothes, cars etc.

A few things 1.The reason Alfred gives for not getting Bruce to a dr. is utter bullshit

2. Oswald should be deaf in one ear seeing as how Gordon fired right next to his head.

SlickyTrickyDamon 10-09-2014 12:25 AM

Oswald should have stayed outside of Gotham for longer. Seems like he was never really away almost.

Ruien 10-09-2014 09:52 AM

He is critical to furthering the plot.

What? It looked like the past because it was the past and it was a flashback. If this show is still on the air in 20 years, this will look like the past.

Simple Fan 10-13-2014 09:24 PM

VSG 10-14-2014 12:18 AM

Penguin

James Steele 10-22-2014 11:33 PM

I've enjoyed the show. I'm not a hardcore purist or anything to the batman story so I enjoy the ride.

Destor 10-23-2014 03:24 AM

solid ep, I hope the trend continues

KIRA 10-23-2014 09:35 PM

My god Penguin is the master of the long game, but the great thing is I feel so bad for him even when I'm reminded that his harmless facade is just that and he is in fact a murdering psycho. I'm also warming up to Bullock seemingly episode by episode.

Fish Mooney is a cool addition
And then the Joker is out there somewhere as it seems Gotham is becoming a hub for freaks and monsters even at this early stage....I love it all.

Lock Jaw 10-23-2014 10:02 PM

Penguin definitely playing the Game of Thrones

VSG 10-24-2014 05:07 PM

lol yeah Bullock has become one of my fav characters on the show now.

Kalyx triaD 10-27-2014 04:11 AM

Just got caught up to episode 5. Kinda surprised they went into one of the more fantastical elements of Batman's mythology. This show may have some legs yet. Penguin is certainly the highlight. Interesting remix with Montoya and Babs 1, but I guess it makes it more interesting.

You think Joker is in play? I figured after Heath Ledger that The Joker was shelved for a long time.

I love Fish so far. The organized crime part of Batman usually just ends up being something the Joker or the other main bad guys just take over. It's cool to see the inner workings before they become the bitch of the inmates of Arkham.

Lock Jaw 10-28-2014 01:38 AM

Hot episode tonight.... really enjoying this show greatly...

McLegend 10-28-2014 06:54 PM

Donal Logue was tremendous last night.

SlickyTrickyDamon 10-29-2014 06:07 AM

Really great insight for Bullock. I think he must see alot of himself in Gordon or what he used to be before Gotham turned him into what he is today. Probably why he's pissed off at him most of the time.

El Vaquero de Infierno 10-29-2014 08:35 AM

I quite like the atmosphere of the programme, and as others have noted, Penguin is the most interesting character. I do like Sean Pertwee as Alfred, though.

VSG 10-29-2014 10:11 AM

Penguin being Joker-esque in chaos is boggling my mind. Just think that reveal to the police happened way too soon after the pace of the past episodes.

KIRA 10-30-2014 09:01 PM

Agreed. I thought the MCU would at least get to lock Gordon up with the show shifting to Montoya and Allen for a bit, plus what could penguin gain by putting so many people himself included in danger.

Lock Jaw 10-30-2014 09:17 PM

Penguin hatching big plans/schemes.... just you watch.

Simple Fan 10-31-2014 11:31 AM

Penguin making HUGE moves. Gordon and Bullock ready to go out like fucking badasses. I LOVE THIS SHOW.

Destor 11-05-2014 05:15 AM

First truely great episode and I hope this show can churn an episode out every few months half as good as this one was.

Dark-Slicer Diago 11-05-2014 10:46 AM

Agreed, this last episode was the best one yet.

Kalyx triaD 11-06-2014 04:41 AM

Last episode was straight X-Files but this one was classy. Big things happening. Selina's a perv.

SlickyTrickyDamon 11-06-2014 06:35 AM

Dan Heyeda in last week's episode was great. Weird seeing him as a cop and not some sort of sleezeball. Well he might have been a cop sleezeball. Probably.

Perv? She's 15. Probably just stealing something like she did in the movie. Besides its not pervy if they are destined to be a couple. It's romantic stalking.

VSG 11-06-2014 08:38 AM

Lol just don't use "romantic stalking" to justify anything in real life.

Speaking of stalking I'm not so sure that's not what Montoya was doing with Barbra.

Not sure she'd turn face to Gordon so quickly if she was trying to do that. She just thought her old girlfriend was hanging with a murderer. Although if she believed that I'd have tried alot harder to get them apart.

KIRA 11-07-2014 10:14 AM
