Like Scorpion's design from the trailer.

OverTaker 06-02-2014 02:53 PM

This is awesome but I'm still playing MK trilogy. Can I be a badass 4 legged Motaro?

DaveBrawl 06-02-2014 03:04 PM

Kalyx triaD 06-02-2014 03:33 PM

Okay, let's see what you learned Midway. Let's see the next-gen MK.

Kalyx triaD 06-02-2014 04:06 PM

- Multiple versions of one character to choose. Changes fighting style and strategy.

- Persistence online contests. I'm guessing you fight for Outworld or Earth Realm and all results effect the overall tally. Wonder if you can pick any character, or if those two realms are the only two.

drave 06-02-2014 06:12 PM

If the fighting looks like that video..... holy shit

teamXtremist 06-02-2014 06:42 PM

Wiz khalifa yes mkx yes please

Kalyx triaD 06-02-2014 07:01 PM

If the video is hinting at combat features it seems stage interaction may be transplanted from Injustice, as well as the return of weapons.

What would put this on my playlist is the return of tag mode exclusively.

The rap in the trailer was very tacky considering the game and trailer's tone. Like when they used Drake to shill Assassin's Creed 4. Just ugh.

It would be pretty stupid if your theory about online was true and they didn't also at least include the Nether realm.

Kalyx triaD 06-02-2014 08:17 PM

Those ain't theories, that's from the press release.

Kalyx triaD 06-02-2014 08:18 PM

I'll post my usual game analysis once they show more about where they're going with the kombat engine and the online modes. I will say that they're fairly inventive with their online modes.

alvarado52 06-02-2014 08:39 PM

I'd buy that for a dollar

Disturbed316 06-03-2014 03:56 AM

Brutal

drave 06-03-2014 10:44 AM

I think the different cut-in camera angles gives it more of the "cinematic" feel or whatever. If they can find a way to incorporate that without being too repetitive or interfering with command inputs, it would be outstanding. I know that would be difficult to program, but that extra stank is what games need today.

E3 has just started and info on the upcoming Mortal Kombat X have just started flowing. Game director and Mortal Kombat co-creator, Ed Boon, visited the Playstattion live stream and showcased the gruesome game and revealed some key information about the game.
Characters:
Ed Boon has revealed the names of the new characters shown yesterday as well as introducing a new one. The lady bug character is called D’vorah. The tiny lady and brute duo are called Ferra and Torr. That Aztec looking dude is Kotal Khan. The last new character introduced (with no gameplay) is Cassie Cage, the offspring of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade (Say whaaaaaaaaat???)
Story:
The story of Mortal Kombat X starts right after the previous game, however it spans over a period of 25 years.
Gameplay:
As guessed by many fans, each character has three separate versions. Each version gives the character unique moves and tricks. The three Scorpion versions shown included a dual sword wielding version. Gameplay seems more fluid than MK9 and the fatalities a very gruesome. Sub-zero’s finisher has him breaking his oppennet’s spine with his bare hand, before splitting him in half..SICK!
Pretty exciting stuff! Ed Boon also added that there are many new characres as well as old favorites in the game roster. The select screen shows 22 characters in total. we are not sure, however, if that is the final number of fighters.

Some new details from a GameInformer interview:

Online multiplayer will have at least one new mode which will be persistent.

Quote:

"As far as the gameplay is concerned, I think the main thing is the online component," Boon told us. "We're going to be introducing this online metagame that everyone participates in. It's an online experience that is persistent. Everyone is going to be playing it, and there are benefits. It's definitely something that's going to play a major role in people's experience playing Mortal Kombat."
Current plan is for the roster to have more new fighters than the original MK had and they are also fully aware of balancing issues popping up.

Quote:

"I think, according to my immediate memory, we're introducing more characters in this game than we have since the first Mortal Kombat game ...

"It makes balancing a lot harder, and we're going to get all those pro players in the studio and give them as much time on the game as possible," Boon shared. "I really think you need to do that. I don't want us to put out a game that's MK9.5 and just has nicer graphics. [Mortal Kombat 9] was the highest selling Mortal Kombat of all the games. Who would have thought 22 years later that would have been the case?"

Raiden revealed as the next character with the biggest change being the ability to pick from 3 different forms. Each form has its own set of lightning and special attacks.

Quote:

Displacer style is all about leveraging Raiden's teleportation abilities. He can appear on either side of his opponent, allowing him to get out of bad situations, and set up some tricky mixups.

Storm Lord Raiden, according to Boon, the most unique version of Raiden. He can toss out little lightning bombs, and once two have been set, they form a stream of lighting between them, controlling large portions of space at a time. This makes him ideal for players who enjoy more of a zoning/keep away playstyle.

The third variation, tentatively being called Thunder God Raiden, is all about big damage. He doesn't have the utility of the other two, but looks to make up for it with a variety of powerful ways to finish combos.
In terms of story, won't be as central to the overall plot like he was in MK 9.

Quote:

On the story side of things, Raiden will still be a key figure, but not nearly as central to the overall plot as he was in Mortal Kombat 9. Events will actually pick up as earlier as five years after the events of the last game, going through several time periods until it reaches the 25-year-later era mentioned in earlier previews.

drave 08-15-2014 06:46 AM

X's are cool man.

Next MK confirmed to be XxMortalxKombatxX

It is the tenth main "MK" installment.

Emperor Smeat 08-16-2014 08:08 PM

Ed Boon states MK X is bringing back an old "ality" to go along with the usual fatalities.

Quote:

“For those who are familiar with Mortal Kombat, we first had the Fatality and we added a Babality. We had the Friendship moves, Brutality moves and all of these crazy things over the years,” Boon told IGN. “We are going to be reinstating an 'Ality' from a previous game into Mortal Kombat X. And I can't wait to be able to talk about it but at the moment I can't.”
In terms of story mode, bulk of the game takes place 25 years after MK 9 but jumps back and forth several times within.
Quote:

“It's a direct continuation, but the timespan it crosses is 25 years in length,” Boon said. “There are periods that are directly after MK9, then there are periods that are five, ten, 15 and 20 years out. A lot of the events take place 25 years after where we see older versions of the characters, like Cassie Cage and all that. But it does jump around in time; it's not a linear thing.”
Also stressed to not expect a lot of old characters to return since the main focus is towards the new characters for the game.
Quote:

“The last game we did in 2011 was a complete fan service title, so we really felt it was time to add a lot of new characters to the mix,” he said. “So yeah, a lot of old faces won't make the roster, but to us it was more important we did introduce new characters. We're probably introducing more in this game than in any other MK title ever.”

Fignuts 08-16-2014 09:53 PM

Hope it's animalities. With the new cinematic style fatalities, those could be really cool.

Emperor Smeat 08-19-2014 05:13 PM

MK X to have console exclusive fighters according to Ed Boon. Also already considering post-launch DLC plans and packs for the game.

http://www.screwattack.com/news/neth...ive-kharacters

Kalyx triaD 08-19-2014 05:54 PM

Whoever gets Predator first wins.

And yeah, they're be timed exclusives at first. They have tournies to consider. I imagine things will change come EVO season. Unless they want a Soul Calibur 2 case of banned characters.

I don't care that much for the tourny scene, but I imagine this will be the case.

Jaded-Dragon 08-25-2014 02:47 PM

Shinnok is really the only returning villain that makes sense, but they hinted at that during the end scene of the last installment, so it wouldn't really be a shock.

I'm still kind of worried about the three modes for each character though. MK is notorious for balancing issues and I feel like they are putting needless strain on themselves to make each mode viable.

Visually it looks great, and the story is always top notch as far as fighting games go. I'm pretty pumped for it either way.

Kalyx triaD 08-25-2014 06:30 PM

NetheRealm are, admittingly, the fastest at identifying a problem and patching. I think balance won't be that much of an issue.

Emperor Smeat 09-01-2014 06:00 PM

According to Destructoid's hands-on preview at Pax Prime, zoning/projectile attacks have been toned down compared to past Mortal Kombat games. Same for the dashing system which is meant to tone down on spamming.

Quote:

Less talked about is the pace of Mortal Kombat X, which seems much less zoning friendly by design. For those unfamiliar, zoning is when characters fight from distance with projectile attacks. This play style is generally looked down upon as matches can easily devolve into long bouts of spamming projectiles from afar. Previous Netherrealm offenders include Deathstroke in Injustice, and Kitana in Mortal Kombat 9. For Mortal Kombat X, D'Vorah, for example, whose play style seems more zoning based, has a great deal of telegraphing on her projectile specials. She makes up for this with an array of quick stinger strikes that can hit from quite a distance, but these moves don't reach more than a fast dash away. Adding to this is a new dash meter that restricts players to only dashing twice in or out. The meter is on a relatively short cool down, but in a genre where success is measured in individual frames, the implications could be huge.
Compared to Injustice, the stages themselves are longer in appearance but the actual fighting area is smaller overall.

http://www.destructoid.com/mortal-ko...e-280412.phtml

Kalyx triaD 09-01-2014 06:17 PM

A regulated kind of 'stamina' for basic movement seems kind of heavy handed. I totally get the zoning thing, though.

Custom gamepads from manufacturer PDP is currently in development although they stressed the final design won't be as lopsided as what was recently shown off.

Quote:

The controllers displayed at the conference featured six big buttons on the stumpy right side of the gamepad – A, B, X, Y, LB and RB for Xbox One – and a directional stick on the left side. It's not an analog stick, PDP told IGN. "The stick that you see is actually a series of micro-switches as well (just like the buttons), not an analog stick. It helps to bring the player closer to the classic arcade feel."
Quote:

The controllers are designed along the lines of our VS Fight Pads which came out for the Xbox 360 and PS3 a few years back."

lol seriously.

If I want a great competitive fighter, I'll put in something by Capcom or Namco. I play Mortal Kombat because I love the gratuitous violence, character designs, story, and the the art direction as a whole.

That's really why it's such a big hit with the casual audience.

Emperor Smeat 01-06-2015 06:05 PM

Kung Lao was announced to be the next fighter revealed for the game.

Quote:

As with every other character in MK X, Lao will have three different fighting styles that will change the type of moves he has access to and the style of his headgear. The “Tempest” mode will focus on his whirlwind spinning moves and allow Lao to set his hat to circle around him like a protective shield. The “Buzzsaw” style equips his hat with a nasty sawtooth edge and allows him to control his tosses a bit more. While the “Hat-trick” style sounds like the most interesting (and complicated) of the bunch, allowing you to call and return his hat at anytime, setting up all kinds of boomerang-trap shenanigans.
