The Division (PS4/X1/PC)

Okay, this game is officially on my radar.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/yPq_NVi-TC4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Disturbed316 06-10-2014 05:48 AM

Same. Been following it for a while and was bummed when I heard it was delayed. Found this showing off some gameplay:

Kalyx triaD 06-10-2014 02:25 PM

Could have sworn there was a thread on this...

alvarado52 06-10-2014 06:23 PM

I certainly couldnt find it. If you do, by all means, merge.

Kalyx triaD 06-10-2014 06:25 PM

It's gone. I find it hard to believe a thread wasn't made for this epic game, but whatever.

What's gonna be hard is this coming out with Destiny and Halo 5 in my library. I may not have time for this.

Fignuts 06-13-2014 05:32 AM

Did they reveal anything new about this at e3?

Cause the trailer I saw certainly didn't. They may as well have shown last years trailer.

Kalyx triaD 06-13-2014 03:29 PM

You can capture bases.

Kalyx triaD 09-21-2014 01:15 AM

With this also being an MMO-ish shooter like GTA Online and Destiny (and Borderlands to a degree), and all of us pouring hours into them, what would you like to see in this? What would you like retained or done better?

ClockShot 09-21-2014 09:12 AM

I'd like Manhattan to be huuuuuuuuuuuge. Really take some time to explore all points from Battery Park all the way up to the GWB.

Anyone gonna be on the beta for the X1? Wanna try it out, but again, its a game that kinda requires team play

Fignuts 01-28-2016 11:18 PM

I'll have it.

GT is Fignuts82 if I'm not on your friends list. Think I am already tho.

Fignuts 01-29-2016 12:02 AM

Dark Zone looks like an interesting take on pvp. Thats gonna test some friendships.

ClockShot 01-29-2016 06:23 AM

Drave's on XB1.

Any of you guys on that willing to give an early report card? I'm jumping in when I get home from work on PS4.

drave 01-29-2016 06:37 AM

Taking half day - I started the download, but it seems to be slow for me here. I'll jump on as soon as I can.

Got a beta for UFC 2 too :D

#BROKEN Hasney 01-29-2016 12:21 PM

So after watching GB's Quick Play of this, I realised that I just didn't get it before. Not felling the shooting a huge amount, but there's so much going on I dig it. Think I'll wait for a sale.

Emperor Smeat 01-29-2016 06:57 PM

For those interested in the beta but missed out getting free keys, several retailers are offering beta codes as part of their pre-order sales for the game at the moment.

http://www.destructoid.com/the-divis...s-337412.phtml

ClockShot 01-29-2016 08:58 PM

I'm digging this right now. Really just screwed around and did some side missions. Didn't do that first major mission or get to the Dark Zone yet.

Only concern I got right now is travel. I don't know how much of Manhattan we got to play with, but it felt like forever just going from point A to point B. Wonder if they'll take a page out of Destiny's book and give us dirt bikes or maybe we can restart the subway or something.

You have my attention, Ubisoft.

Fignuts 01-29-2016 10:03 PM

I like it.

That is all.

Disturbed316 01-29-2016 10:57 PM

Was tempted to preorder to get into the beta but never got round to it, I'll just wait for the release.

Havent tried Div. yet, but I have been impressed with UFC 2...seems they really improved the grappling controls.

Fignuts 01-30-2016 12:10 AM

There are "climb up and activate the tower" missions.

Oh, ubisoft.

alvarado52 01-30-2016 04:06 AM

Really enjoying this so far...my only fear is that I wont have enough pals online to play it consistently. Dont really care for randoms in games such as this, Destiny, Diablo, etc.

Yeah. Found those kinda stupid. I learned from the first one and the 2nd one I did I went and looted and killed first, then start the timer.

drave 01-30-2016 08:39 AM

I only played for about 30 mins so far, and Fignuts dropped in for about 10 before I had to put the baby to sleep. (Sorry Fig, fell asleep putting the baby to sleep :()

Definitely a very fun game so far. The first thing I did was "setup a base of operations", which I don't think was the first thing I was supposed to do but I wasn't paying attention.

The Dark Zone sounds intense and I can't wait to get there.

drave 01-30-2016 10:22 AM

The Dark Zone is amazing. Very tense not knowing if you will be shot at any given moment.

Definitely will be more fun with a squad of friends, but not bad solo either.

I have to read more, I have been blasting through tutorials and don't understand where loot comes from (other than other players).

Maybe muck around more outside the Dark Zone and try to get some gear. I will be buying this game for sure.

Fignuts 01-30-2016 12:26 PM

I think the loot comes from enemy drops.

ClockShot 01-30-2016 02:41 PM

Drops or items you find. Found a nice blue assault rifle in a duffle bag inside a locked apartment.

ClockShot 01-30-2016 02:52 PM

Just read some that this beta is in such high demand, there's a wait list on players waiting to get in.

And a little more than a day left to play.

drave 01-30-2016 04:09 PM

I BARELY encounter shit outside of the couple of story missions, guess that is why I feel like that. I'm going to make this more of a night to sit and really dig into it, so long as my daughter isn't up all night.

ClockShot 01-30-2016 09:53 PM

Kinda bummed it was 1 major story mission. Ah well.

Into the wild west tomorrow. Gonna poke around the corners of the map and walk the sewers, too. See if I missed any open doors.

I'll be content if I land a exotic............I mean "high end" piece of gear tomorrow before it closes down.

drave 01-31-2016 08:53 AM

BUT, BUT, IT'S GOT THE SAME COLOR CODES! I GET CONFUSED TOO EASILY! lol

All in all, good fun in the Dark Zone this morning. I like how it's a blender of PVE & PVP.

Had a moment this morning where I had to send my gear out. I fired the flare and the next thing I know, here come 4-5 players coming straight at me. All were neutral, but I thought for sure I was ripped to shreds by bullets. I was waiting for the "awwww fuck" moment.

Turns out they were cool and just let me be. Gear got out, continued on my way.

ClockShot 01-31-2016 04:47 PM

This just in:

Ubisoft extends the beta for another 24 hours.

drave 01-31-2016 06:13 PM

Wooooo!

Spent a lot of time in the DZ and love it. They should just leave the beta up until launch and expand the test. It would be good for stressing the servers as well as increasing the DZ population.

Finally encountered some NPC's and was able to gather some loot. All greens now and next time I head back to a stash I should have enough to buy some blue gear from the DZ vendor.

The only stash I can find is back at HQ at the post office.... am I missing one?

Really fun game.

Tom Guycott 01-31-2016 06:43 PM

Just got around to giving it a try today. Seems interesting. Haven't ventured DZ yet, just basic campaign/wandering the streets shiz. Funny how the beta made me go from "I don't care" to "maybe I'll give this a try". I'm still not super fond of anything involving UPLAY though, but at least this didn't try to make me remember my password for it.

Tried Dark Zone... didn't really "get" what was going on. Seemed really rare getting any lootable encounters, and while the concept of "rogue" is a neat PvP wrinkle, I didn't really appreaciate being baited into it (had some asshole keep shooting me until I killed him, then suddenly I'm the asshole!), and there didn't seem to be too much upside to killing red players.

So, if I were to pick it up at launch, do we get to keep our shit, or is this an excercise in futility, where everyone starts again at one unless they microtransaction themselves into a frenzy?

Enemy AI encounters are somewhat rare in the DZ from the Beta too. Maybe that will change with the full release? Primarily, the DZ is for "world PVP" if you will. Killing Rogue's nets you DZ Exp and DZ $$$$ to buy really good gear. However, when you are killed in the DZ you lose DZ Exp and $$$, and a shit ton more if you die while Rogue.

As far as being baited goes:

You get a few warnings advising that continuing to attack a non-hostile Agent will make you Rogue. If the guy was shooting you enough, he should have turned red (indicating he went rogue) and you can kill Rogue agents without being turned Rogue yourself.

There is also a timer for turning Rogue, in the instance of friendly fire (happens a lot around extraction points). When you first go Rogue, you have a timer (usually 20-30 seconds) and if you do not make any hostile moves against non-hostile agents, you will go back to being a non-hostile agent.

Definitely some tweaks they could make, but I would like to see how the DZ plays out with a higher population.

drave 02-01-2016 11:41 AM

I actually lost a DZ rank for dying as a Rogue last night. I mistakenly went Rogue when a PUG group I was a part of were Rogue hunting. Shot a friendly in an extraction zone which made me Rogue and was lit up quick by everyone around.

Next beta rumored to be occurring from February 16th till February 21st and be partially exclusive to the Xbox One.

Quote:

Ubisoft extended the Division closed beta for a day, but there may be hope yet if you wanted to get in. According to this post from the Xbox Italy Facebook account, Microsoft will host an event that's open to everyone from February 16-21.

The post has since been removed from said account, so it's looking like it has merit. The leak also teases EA Access "Play It First" programs for Unravel and Garden Warfare 2, as well as an "Xbox exclusive" beta for Homefront: The Revolution. According to the Division listing, the open session will have 24 hours of Xbox exclusivity.

Well, I was gonna jump on one last time. But with PSN has some issues right now. I think I'm done. Might have a shot to get in early before shutdown.

I'll be happy if they get another beta up. Maybe expand the map more and up the level cap.

The file size of Tom Clancy’s The Division on Xbox One has been revealed via a listing on the Xbox Store.

An update to the game’s Xbox Store listing reveals that the game will take up 32.3 GB of space on players’ hard drives, which is just 5 GB more than the closed beta client.

Yesterday, one of the game’s developers revealed that Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players will be able to disable particular lighting effects to improve the game’s framerate.
PS4 and PC version should be around the same size in terms of hard drive space needed.

Some pretty promising updates there too, especially increased population in DZ.

ClockShot 02-10-2016 05:17 PM

Kinda hope they cut down gear extractions buy like 30 seconds and make them an even minute.

Totally nerve racking just waiting there hoping you don't get clipped when you got that nice purple gun in your stash you wanna get out. Pretty sure I'll get paranoid and start shooting neutral agents in due time.

Yeah, I eventually figured that out (hardway), but the guy was taking pot shots and ducking. I didn't know he was a PC, as he was acting like the scattered AI I had encountered. I kept getting chip shots , so I shot back as one is apt to do. When I sniped his ass, of course, I went Rogue. Then, two more agents swooped in and started shooting the hell out of me. Basically, the one egged me into killing him so the others could bonus off of my ignorance.

The other trap is thr extraction point. There were quite a few times when there were multiple people at a chopper, and a group of about 3 would come in, X off everyone, and take all the loot for themselves... even when the point got swarmed with mooks we were trying to fend off. And you can't just get revenge, because by the time you respawn and get back to point of death, unless they're just being class A douchenozzles and racking up a multiple minute red timer or they're right by a spawn point (which they rarely are), they are no longer rogue and you just got screwed thrice (death, robbery, and no reciept).

You should get a revenge marker or something... kill the guy who just killed you. Or at least make the red timer last longer for the person who you just offed than everyone else.

As for AI encounters in DZ, I meant the encounters where you find loot to begin with. Once you find something, they seem to come out of the woodwork, especially at a ground-level extraction zone and particularly at night (in game). Don't know if the freaks coming out at night (thanks, Whodini) was intentional, or if it just happened to work out that way during my playthrough, but that seemed to be the pattern.

With all that said, I'll likely get this at some point. But for XBONE. And DZ won't see me very often.

Disturbed316 02-16-2016 11:33 PM

Open beta starts on the 18th, really tempted but I think I'll just wait for launch.

Kalyx triaD 02-17-2016 01:46 AM

Why?

Disturbed316 02-17-2016 02:08 AM

Main factor is the lack of time really and if progress doesn't transfer over I'd rather just wait for the final product.

Kalyx triaD 02-17-2016 11:00 AM

What if you buy something you don't ultimately like?

I can't think of any circumstance where I wouldn't try a beta or demo of a game I intended on buying. We all WISH more games offered access before taking our money. Do your future self a favor and verify.

$60 dude.

The Rogerer 02-17-2016 11:35 AM

If I hadn't played the Destiny beta I could have gone through those areas 490 times instead of 500.

drave 02-17-2016 12:24 PM

External HDD arriving today, just in time to re-install :)

You should definitely play the beta as much as you can. It will give you a feel for the new stuff, how it plays out, and IMPROVED DZ mechanics (if that is your thing, if it isn't I can see anyone skipping it).

They capped levels at 7 last time didn't they? Or maybe progression just dragged at that point, but it isn't a "lot of progress" to regain really.

Emperor Smeat 02-17-2016 06:49 PM

Some details regarding the upcoming beta for the game.

Quote:

Ubisoft has added some extra content to this, so it won't be the exact same as the beta from a few weeks ago. According to this trailer, there's an "exclusive open beta mission." It hasn't been said if this is the only difference, but the PvP Dark Zone has likely been tweaked. And, all those PC exploits have probably been addressed.

To save concern about pesky download times, The Division's open beta is available to pre-load on all platforms (PC, PS4, Xbox One). The file size looks to weigh in right under 25GB. For those who still have it installed from the previous beta, a new download isn't necessary; there will be a smaller patch to bring it up to date.

It's certainly a valid point, but that's the risk with the vast majority of console games now that demo's aren't as big as they used to be. But going by the premise I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

It's great they are giving players the opportunity to experience the game before launch, but I doubt I'll be taking advantage.

This is the problem with interesting multiplayer mechanics, the majority all act the same way. You get exceptions which is how we got all those DayZ stories, but everytime I played, some motherfucker just turns heel on you all the time.

Assasins Creed should have been my most fun multiplayer due to the design, but people just played run and stab.

It causes paranoia though for sure. Ran with a group of buddies last night about 5 deep, and even though we watch each other's back, any person I saw hanging near a drop zone that DIDNT have a yellow loot package on his back I held in my crosshairs the entire time.

ClockShot 02-20-2016 06:39 PM

Sorta gotta change up how you speak now when you play this.

If you pick up that nice purple piece of gear, you can't go "Hell yeah! Got me a nice gun from that guy!" All your friends turn around and pump ya full of holes.

Now it's "Meh, blue kneepads. I'll shop around more, then check out." While saying to yourself "Sweet. Just keep my mouth shut."

Meh. I found exactly the opposite true. I have had shitty drops (rate good, but mostly sucky grey gear worse than I got already compared to last time. Even the cosmetic clothing drops have been pretty bad for me this go 'round) and found more lockpicks than I know what to do with this time around (though that spot you need one in MSG still seems to be a wasteful, contaminated deathtrap with no reward... maybe they're saving putting something good in that room for the final retail release.)

Ended up buying it. It was like $45 for the Gold version in Argentina so I thought fuck it.

Year 1 DLC plan had a lot to do with it:

Additionally, two free updates, available to all players, will hit in the months following launch. Beginning in April, the Incursions update will add an endgame activity designed for squad play, challenging teams of four players to face nigh-unstoppable enemies for high-level loot. Also coming with the Incursions update is loot trading. Players in the same squad will be able to trade loot that’s collected during their co-op game session. The Conflict update will follow in May, adding new Dark Zone feature and an incursion into New York’s Columbus Circle.

Three paid expansions are also planned throughout the year, and will be available to players with a Season Pass or to those who buy the Gold or Collector’s Edition of the game. In June, the Underground expansion will send you to hunt enemies in the vast mazes of tunnels and subways that run under Manhattan. Underground will be followed by Survival later in the summer, which will challenge you to survive for as long as possible in a very hostile environment while gathering supplies and equipment. Finally, Last Stand will arrive along with winter, challenging players with a new, relentless threat.

Loot trade. Nice!

Ubisoft revealed their DLC plans for the game which is a mix of free and paid stuff:

Quote:

Let's talk about free first. Incursion mode will be introduced a month after launch. This end-game content "developed specifically for squad play" will have teams battle against "seemingly unstoppable enemies" to gain high-level equipment. Loot trading between co-op players (which Ubisoft says is one of the most-requested features by the community) will also be part of this April update. May brings new features to the Dark Zone and a new Incursion in Columbus Circle.

Now for the paid content, which you can get through the Season Pass, Gold Edition, or Collector's Edition of the game. June heralds the first expansion, Underground, where players will explore the "uncharted underworld of New York City." The idea of an expansion based almost exclusively on subways makes my right eye twitch, but let's move on. Expansion numero dos, Survival, comes out this summer, but the description is fairly vague: "This expansion will challenge players to survive as long as possible by gathering essential supplies in a very hostile environment." Hmm. The final expansion (for this first year!) is called The Last Stand and brings a new threat next winter, where you and your squad must "prepare to defend against a relentless foe."

Xbox One to get one month timed exclusivity for 2 of the 3 DLC packs already announced for the game.

Quote:

Microsoft isn't getting shut out, however. Just today, Ubisoft announced that the first two Division add-ons will be Xbox exclusives for 30 days. Underground and Survival are scheduled for later in the summer; whenever they're set for release, tack on one month to get the PC and PS4 dates. The final DLC pack, Last Stand, arrives this winter to a simultaneous launch across all platforms.

PS4 here. If all goes well, I got a few buddies at work grabbing this so I got a few people to watch my ass as I go "shopping" in the dark zone.

Disturbed316 03-07-2016 09:51 PM

Picked up my Xbox copy today, just an hour of work left before I can get started on this.

Didn't take long before people found a really easy way to troll people in the game and its not due to any game-breaking issue. Only way to avoid the problem is to cause the game to glitch when it occurs.

As a possible reference, when Ubisoft compiled all the stats for the beta, it turned out the biggest threat in the game were members of your own team. Something around half of the deaths in the game were from teammates killing each other.

Mere hours after the game's launch, people have found that players spawning in the first safehouse can't progress if someone just stands in the door. Everyone else is trapped inside, just watching this jamoke wave at them. Seeing how it's launch day and The Division is a highly anticipated game, it seems as if a whole lot of people are either griefing or being griefed right now.

Luckily, there's one workaround. It's being reported that if you just continually run at the doorway guy for a few seconds, you'll eventually phase through him. It won't to try pushing him or constantly backing up to squeeze past. You have to just run on the spot until you clip through.

For those interested in the PC gold edition of the game, a couple of retailers have it on sale for $20 off.

While plans could change in the future, at the moment Ubisoft states they have no plans to expand the game's microtransaction system to include non-cosmetic stuff.

Only gripe I got so far is that by the looks of the map, we're only in lower Manhattan.

Really hoping over that that it expands north to cover the whole island.

The Division has sold through more copies in its first 24 hours than any other game in Ubisoft's history. The company announced the news in a press release today, which said the multiplayer shooter also set Ubisoft digital sales records across its available platforms.

Picked it up. If it hasn't been said already, this game is fucking gorgeous. So much detail.

alvarado52 03-10-2016 10:29 PM

Yeah. Been grinding it out lately. Will be on tonight if you fellas are on the Xbox Juan.

Disturbed316 03-11-2016 04:23 AM

The detail is insane, always makes me double take when I see a rat running in the street.
