Me personally the first wrestler to be come my favorite when I started watching was The Rock. I still like The Rock but its a shame he betray wrestling to make money in Hollywood but who can blame him. He literaly became too big for the WWE. |
hulk hogan
The Ultimate Warrior
Ric Flair
I was first exposed to the NWA as a small child by my older cousins. we loved watching Flair's promo's. |

First taste of wrestling was his debut |
@BigZeke, why do you feel The Rock betrayed WWE? I'm always curious to hear people's reasons for that.
Randy Savage
I think Bret Hart, or Tatanka... coz he was an Indian.
Stone Cold Steve Austin. Yes, I'm probably younger than most of you here. Wanna fight about it?

Hulk Hogan. And surfer Sting was right behind him.
Remember how pumped I was when Sting showed up in an episode of Thunder in Paradise. |
Ohhhhhhhhh Yyyyyeaaaahhhhh dig it
The Macho Man Randy Savage |
Sting circa late 80s
Chronologically after Macho Man:
Ultimate WARRIOR The Undertaker Bret Hart |

i followed hogan up with jake the snake (we shared a name) and the ultimate warrior. |
after that it's just a blur until the attitude era hit.

But yeah, The Rock. Was into him when he was with the Nation, and he was always entertaining to me. Stone Cold too, it's really 1A, 1B. But I'd have to give it to Rock as my first absolute favorite. |
My first favorite wrestler, i started watching in 2007, only knew the names of the wrestlers i had action figures of, my favorite was king booker, the a few weeks later once i learned all the names, Jeff Hardy, but very soon changed to Undertaker, my favorite wrestler changed alot back then, still does. lol current favorite is dean ambrose
Nikita Koloff
Early-Mid 1980's.... He was bad mother fucker back then. I also liked Flair, but I think I was a bigger Koloff fan. I'd buy Pro Wrestling Illustrated magazines, cut out the pictures and put them up on my bedroom walls. |
Was either Hogan or Ultimate Warrior.
The Ultimate Warrior
Hmm, suprised tht Ezekiel kid didn't say someone from all his backyard vids...
I think I learned to say "Hulk Hogan" before I knew my own name. Definitely him.

i played the snes games long before i started watching, and i loved bret hart in those

i remember playing as bam bam bigelow on an nes game. loved that dude.

DDP and Rey Mysterio Jr - WCW late 90's.
Followed shortly by RVD. |
Quote:
Chris Jericho (from his WWF/E debut. He still holds a place as a top 3 guy) Eddie Guerrero (from his WWF/E debut until his death. Still my all time favorite) John Cena (from his feud with JBL until roughly 2006 or 7) |
The Rock
Hogan. He was the man. Super Hero come to life. I'm guessing over half of us between the ages of 25-35 are going to answer him or Warrior.
the ultimate warrior and the big boss man
Bret Hart
Sgt. Slaughter because he was on GI Joe.

How old are you Dogg? That's like 1998/1999.
Is it inconceivable that I started watching wrestling in 1998/1999?
I mean, that's like 15 years ago. I was 14 at the time

Subjective question:
Obviously, being spoon-fed Hogan meant he was the best and the greatest and "my favorite" because he was the best and the greatest. "Love this man because we tell you to!" He has a cartoon, shirts, toys, etc., etc., and was an 80's pop culture icon up there with Mr. T. and Chuck Norris. Won't tell you how many plastic grocery bags my brother and I cut the bottom out of so we could wear them as shirts and rip them open while singing "Real American". But starting to get into wrestling and formulating my own opinions on the matter, two guys really stuck out: Piper and Perfect. Piper wasn't my "favorite" in the least, but I hated him. All the other heels were "Boo, bad guy, booo!" but Piper made me upset whenever he would promo. It's a testament to how good and inflamatory a heel he actually was. In that way, he's a favorite, because I honestly wanted to see him not just lose, but get his ass kicked. True answer though is Henning* <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/AGkQ9YJcS9c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> This was truly the greatest moment in the history of our sport, and he didn't even fucking say it! Mr. Perfect became "my" favorite organically. From the day The Genius introduced him I thought he was THE MAN! I liked Hogan because I was "supposed to" like the ultimate hero. I legit liked Mr. Perfect on my own. Catching the towel, swatting the gum, hitting the Perfect plex, and throwing the football to himself... I thought it was all awesome. Didn't care he was a bad guy. I thought he was soooo cool! |
Flyin Brian because he was featured quite heavily on the wcw Saturday show, whatever that was. It was the only non-paying wrestling you could get over here. Remember him feuding with Steven Regal.

Hulk Hogan. Still is my favourite next to JBL.
I never liked Hulk Hogan growing up at all. It wasn't until I got older and understood the business better I got more of an appreciation for him, to the point,I drank him much higher on my favourite wrestlers of all time over Warrior now.
I started watching in 87 and Hogan was my hero. I got so upset when Andre strangled Hogan on Main Event.
Billy Kidman... loved the 7-Year Itch Shooting Star Press

The greatest thing in these convos will be someone saying they hated Hogan and loved Macho Man if theywere around my age and started watching during the Hogan era. Lol I'm sure Macho Man borderline commiting domestic violence on television really won your 7 year old heart.
It reminded them of home?
Lol you know what gets you over in the eyes of a 7 year old? When a wrestler is about to hit Savage and he pulls Elizabeth in front of him so he won't get hit. Huge babyface move.
But it is cool to say you did not like Hogan when you were little! How many other 8 year olds were able to tell wrestling was fake and know about work rate?!?!?!?!?!
I didn't hate Hogan or anything, but Macho Man was my guy. This is probably in large part due to me having a Macho Man toy, and not having any Hogan ones.
Jack Swagger
Did you just start watching in the past few months?
