These are the Ghostbusters. Anybody who sees this reboot is a piece of shit no good motherfucker. |
I love the Ghostbusters films (who doesn't?), but this doesn't really bother me to be honest. I think, if they're having it as an all-female team, then at least it's a remake with a twist. I mean, we'll always have the originals to love either way, and should just take this for what it is. And, in fact, if it's an all-female team, and the story line is different, then is it really a remake at all? It'll just be a completely new franchise with new characters, just the same concept.
I suppose like most people, we're all getting fed up with remakes, but the Ghostbusters franchise hasn't really been touched for about 20+ years, outside of some crappy cartoons. I see no reason why not do something with it. If it's good, then hell, they took a concept that hasn't been touched for a long time and done something with it. If it's crap, well, fuck it, we'll still have the original movies which will have nothing to do with this anyway. Either way, if we're not gonna get Ghostbusters 3 with Murray, Akroyd etc, then fuck it, let's see what they come up with. |
The cartoons were awesome.
The Real Ghostbusters was great, and a huge part of my childhood. Extreme Ghostbusters or whatever it was called was meh.
Ghostbusters: Remastered
I refuse to even give this the slightest chance...no matter what. They've turned it into a gimmick.
Fuck them. |

My biggest problem with this- and with remakes in general- is that the original left some pretty big shoes to fill. Even decent attempts at major updates, such as Robocop (which I enjoyed) kind-of falter under the weight of its own name. As I said, the afore mentioned Robocop was "good", but not as good as the source material even without the nostalgia tinted goggles.
"Ghostbusters" invokes some lofty expectations from a fandom point of view, and there is a possibility that this may actually work with the female cast... but even this is more than a gimmicky cash grab; even if it is greater than anyone can imagine thus far (which, let's be honest, the bar is set really low at the moment), it will inevitably be quite unfavorably compared to the original. |
... also, this could be a huge swerve, and be based on the OTHER Ghostbusters. [/sarcasm]
And someone needs to find and post that infinite gif of the cartoon ending. You know what I'm talking about. |
Just...no

ROSEBUD!
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WZ3OGCiy7Hw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I imagine Dan Akroyd will eventually be officially involved. Kristen Wiig and the fat chick will be sisters and he will be their dad or something.
A gay actor will play the receptionist role of Jeanine... just seems the way Hollywood would do it.
I think a lot of uproar is due to the fact that there are so many shit movies that can be redone and improved upon(MST3K movies!), but Ghostbusters is an all time great movie that needs no such treatment. |
How is that the second I heard about all female Ghostbusters I immediately knew that fat chick from Mike and Molly would be in it?

I wonder if Andy Serkis will be in this as the gorilla
New Update!
There's going to be a sequel to the reboot with an all male cast. Proves they were doing an all female cast for sexist means. |
Because they are or are not sexist? I donut understand
Making separate movies is going to cause a gender war.
How so? Over what? I've barely recovered from the last armageddon when "Girl Meets World" was introduced
That's a continuation not a reboot.
but this sequel is going to be a continuation of the girl ghostbuster right?
Look man,
I'm really sorry that your favorite movie ever still has a lot of earning power and some big Hollywood jerks are going to exploit it, make money, and maybe not put out the greatest product of all time. But MAYBE they will. Still, no reason to get all upset over women's issues. with love, poopfromweiner dude |
Isn't the new ghostbusters with the brads a continuation as well, as not a reboot?
lol "gender war"

That said I don't think any thing comes comes close to the nightmare fuel that is the boogeyman |
No problem with the all female cast, given who is involved.
If this film ruins your enjoyment of the original, then that's a personal problem. |
I'm ready for two Ghostbusters movies. Let's do this.
No one took the opportunity to mention that the fat chick from Mike and Molly will also be playing the Stay Puft Marshmallow Woman too. Can't wait for this movie. It's gonna be greater than great.
Not sure how many of you played the Ghostbusters game that was really, the sequel we all should have gotten, but at the end, they talk about setting up franchises in other states.
Wonder if that's what they're getting at with these multiple GB flicks. |
Well the male and female teams are confirmed to be in a shared continuity which may or may not be a continuation of the classic movies (honestly I'm reading conflicting reports on whether all of this is in the same universe as the OG team). Dan AkROID is a part of this so perhaps they are a continuation.

Speaking of remakes, there's Poltergeist 2015. Sigh. And no, I'm not gonna watch Ghostbusters femme version. |
Quote:
Actually no, nevermind, don't answer that. Gonna turn this thread into 10 pages of pointless arguing if you do, probably.
So Chris "Thor" Hemsworth is on board as "the receptionist". AKA Janine.
Yeah, Annie Potts had a thing going on that made her awesome. Don't know this is gonna work out. All the girls gonna fawn over him or something? |
Well that make for a decent running gag, though it wasn't like the guys were fawning over Janine. They would need their Rick M. proxy.
This all sounds awful.
Like Bridesmaids or something, but fighting ghosts. |
Bridesmaids was hilarious.
Great movie but the guy is just a gimmick director now.
Oh. I didn't even know it was the same director.
Quote:
Also, I didn't know the director of Bridesmaids was the teacher from Sabrina The Teenage Witch, and checking out his recent stuff, I've noticed that he seems to have some sort of "Tim Burton/Johnny Depp" style love thing for Melissa McCarthy. Four out of the six movies he's directed have McCarthy in them. |
Reading the Facebook comments for this is entertaining as fuck.
Terrible.
Anybody THRILLA~!
burn it NOW

I think Melissa McCarthy is really unfunny but I think the other 3 are very funny
She can be funny but she also can be pretty terrible. Why is the blonde trying to look like Miley Cyrus?
This is going to be terrible.
Who's that fuckin' black behemoth?
She looks huge. |
Another photo, but this one is an official one.
https://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com...=all&strip=all And that woman's name is Leslie Jones. I've never heard of her. |
Goliath motherfucker.
I hope this movie is funny as fuck and is an absolute smash hit at the box office, just due to all the hate it's been getting. Not from any of you handsome gentlemen, just on social media.
I get it's all women, but the director has a solid if not better track record, these women, except for the black one because I've never seen her in anything, are all funny and talented, and because it's all Bill Murray's fault we never got a trilogy so Hollywood told him to fuck off and went a different direction. Not to mention, isn't there an all male version of this film being developed as well? Thought I read that somewhere. |
A 'male version' is stupid as well. Why is there a 'male' and 'female' version of Ghostbusters? It just leads to drama.
I don't know. I don't get caught up in all that. As long as they're good movies and I'm entertained for a few hours I'm all for it. At least for movies like this where I don't really care that they're rebooting.
No issue with the all-female cast but overall feel the same way right now as I did with the recent TNMT film and the Micheal Bay Transformers series in not really caring at all to watch it.
Might change the closer the film is to release or if it shows up in the near future on tv. Ended up enjoying the 1st Transformers film that way. |
You had every right with tmnt
Okay, I take back everything I said defending this movie and waiting for it to come out before passing judgment. This trailer was absolutely, 100% not funny at all. Looks awful.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/w3ugHP-yZXw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I'll still wait till it comes out. Trailer didn't really sway me one way or the other.
Damn. Was hoping the actually good director could salvage this stunt of a movie. Could be still worth a netflix night, but I'm more lenient on movies than you guys. I could how this... misses many marks.
Blah.
Looks like it could be alright, can't really tell... obviously never going to be "as good"....
Wish the "humour" was more "subtle" and less "over-the-top".... but that is more just the state of modern "humour" in general compared to the "humour" of the past.....
Yeah very seldom is there subtle humor you have to listen for these days. We shall see how this does. Interesting that this seems more like a quasi sequel.
That looks terrible. 0/7
The mountain lady, Leslie Jones, screams all the time on SNL. Pretty much you'll be getting full on yelling scenes throughout the second half of the film. That's just how she rolls.
I can't defend this as much as I love the Ghostbusters franchise. Will definitely watch it sometime down the road |
Just watched the trailer again. Honestly this looks horrendous. Definitely not gonna see this in the cinema. It's like every single joke or bit that is meant to be funny has already been done in countless other films, and wasn't funny then, either. I was open to a remake/reboot/sequel whatever. I love the original films, but as the franchise hasn't been touched in almost three decades I was happy to see what they can come up with, but this looks like the absolute drizzling shits.
I will now be accepting apologies. :D
Feel like it could be at least 75% better if Melissa McCarthy wasn't in it
I was willing to give it a chance but this looks like Scooby Doo monsters unleashed with Bridesmaid humor. I think Bridesmaids was very funny mind you, but I think the humor in GB was much more subtle.
did Akroyd and Murray sign off on this... eesh
Murray didn't sign off on anything, which is why we're getting this movie instead
Nothing remotely interesting
Quote:
As a cameo. Go read some Dan Akroyd interviews. Plenty of quotes pointing to Murray not wanting to do a third film, throwing away scripts, etc.
A little different than randomly showing up in a different version of the film where the original character is no longer a central focus. |
I find it strange that they start off with "30 years ago... 4 scientists..." or whatever... so are they acknowledging in the filmverse that the original Ghostbusters exist?
Looks that way. There's also the Ghostbusters logo in the train station that's b spray painted over. So, for whatever reason that I'm sure will be shared in the film, the Ghostbusters are apparently viewed in a negative light in New York (again).
At least Slimmer looked...okay....the rest of it seems terrible.
Quote:
Obviously it's coz I was a young grasshopper when the originals came out, but the ghosts in the original movies looked amazing and scared the shit out of me as a kid. These ghosts look shit and cartoony. Sorta thing you'd see in 'Son of the Mask' or some shitty film like that.
You know I find it hilarious that half the people in here crying about this are the same people who told me off and said I shouldn't judge the movie based on "just a trailer" when I was complaining about Suicide Squad.
Suicide Squad trailer looked shit as well.
Pretty sure you were one of the few people that agreed with me over there actually, Rammsteinmad.
I find it ironic how it is an all woman cast because of equal rights and shit, yet the black girl is a stereotypical black person.
We do tend to 'know the streets' and believe in jesus and shit. She's very accurate. And the actress shredded a feminist on twitter trying to make this a problem.
Swear to god, any time there is a woman cast in a lead role, it's always accused of being a feminist agenda.
This is what we have come to. |
Actually it's nothing like that. Women been rocking leads since before Aliens.
You have to consider who started poisoning the well and it wasn't guys like me calling out stunts like Marvels All New All Different Race/Gender swapathon. |
The articles blasting any criticism against this film as sexist is inflammatory. A preemptive strike against perceived bigotry. Same with comics and TV and movies going full tokenism. How can honest criticism survive when that's the corner we're painted in?
The criticism of the movie in this thread, by guys we KNOW aren't sexist, would be called sexist. What would you have us do, ya know? Never say something critical of female/minority led media? |
Quote:
I'll get you a list of female led movies after work. Lots of cool shit too then and now. It's not as dire as advertised. It happened. It happens.
Quote:
The bigger issues in sexism in movies is wage disparity and lack of female directors. This is a distraction.
Quote:
Greta Garbo movies, All About Eve, Mildred Pierce, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane... lots more. Not that I deny that Hollywood was and is a sexist institution, but let's not give a Ridley Scott film that much credit. |
I shouldn't have asked, I think the responses will go all over the place. As for Mitch's suggestion, I got the sense we were talking about Hollywood blockbuster types, not dramas. I just though Aliens was a curious landmark to pick, I can think of anything obvious before Aliens in the same vein. Not really surprising as most films would be war/fantasy based. Unless you're talking about Russ Meyer stuff, which is B movie stuff
There really aren't many female lead blockbuster movies. Most of that has to do with the fact that the few there are (with a few obvious exceptions like Alien and Terminator) are usually received poorly. It all has to do with our society and the fact that most men don't seem to be able to "identify" with a female lead character. I honestly don't understand why that is, but it's definitely true, especially among younger men.
Another big issue is that female characters are rarely ever written well in those kinds of movies. We usually end up with the overly masculine heroine who's essentially just a dude with a vagina because Hollywood doesn't seem to understand how to make a character a badass without making them a caricature of what society deems "manly." Not that more masculine acting women don't exist, but the fact that that is pretty much all we get (again with some exceptions) doesn't help lift the stigma. |
