Would lawler and McDonald not be the main even now? I thought they always did champions in order or weight or something. No chance they would bump mcgregor though. Hmm.

Lawler/Rory is a much bigger fight IMO but the want to squeeze all the juice out of McGregor.

No it isn't. For North Americans it might be, but neither Lawler or McDonald are really huge names yet. McGregor has all Ireland and the UK plus all the plastic paddies worldwide, and Aldo has Brazil. Aldo is also a far more convincing champion and McGregor is far more fun to watch, plus he sells fights better than anyone except Sonnen.

McGregor didn't earn the shot though. MacDonald is the new GSP so he has Canada and Lawler is a huge fan favorite, specially with the old school crowd. I agree about McGregor being a huge draw but he should have faced Edgar/Mendes/Lamas/Swanson before getting the shot. He hasn't beaten anyone in the top five. I'm not saying he isn't legit, but they are gonna milk the hype while it's there while keepinf my him safe from all the other contenders.

That is why Lawler vs MacDonald is a more legit title fight IMO.

Aldo has already beaten all the guys you mentioned there. And no matter what the ufc says I very much doubt macdonald ever gets close to gsp numbers.

I like Lawler and I'd consider myself an old school fan in the sense I watched him fight first time around etc, but he's a good fighter, not a great one. I can't see him being champ any longer than 2016 if he's lucky.

I'll concede McGregor might win the title the drop it to a wrestler but I'd take that tbh because Aldo is the worst to watch.

Plus the only name MacDonald has beat that I give a shit about is BJ penn, and he was hardly in his prime for that fight. I don't rate any of the last three fighters he's beat. Seems Tyron Woodley is third in the rankings because Condit got a freak injury, was hardly a devastating kick.

TWood was beating the fuck out of Condit before that injury.

Yr logic is silly. The reason he doesn't "finish" is the same reason GSP wasn't "finishing" late in his title run. He is fighting the best 145 pound fighters in the world for years . The elite of the elite. A look at Aldos record shows that he is more likely to finish than he is likely to be finished. Yr MMAth is flawed.

Same thing with Jon Jones. He elbows people and still can't knock them out. And a prime example is Anthony "Rumble" Johnson. He has fought the elite of the elite and is new to the division and he has knocked out Alexander Gustaffson and Antonio rogeiouro nogeriou sincogouerio. Alot of title changes are coming in 2015.

I think both McGregor and Rumble have the ability to win but betting against champions like Jones and Aldo is silly at this point.

Why do you say it's silly? Rumble beat a guy that gave Jones his toughest run yet. (In dominating fashion) And McGregor has beaten guys that gave Aldo a run for his money.

Jones wasn't training year round before the Gus fight and admittedly slept on Gus hard. Who are you referring to when you say McGregor has beaten guys that gave Aldo trouble? The only guys to give Aldo trouble were Edgar and Mendes and Conor hasn't fought either of them. Marcus Brimmage? Dustin Porier? Dennis Siver?

I missed Stevens/Bermudez and Thatch/Gunni cause my stream fucked up at the hotel. But the main and comain made up for it.

Huge night for UFC and I am happy with the outcome. Mendes beats McGregor on a full camp though. Also, Lawler/McDonald 2 May be my favorite fight ever.

Yeah. I still dont feel like the "wrestler question" was properly answered in regards to McGregor. I'm with Krispy in that it seems like if Mendes had the cardio of a full camp, he would have beaten him. Can't say for sure but it definitely seems like wrestling was exposed as a weakness rather than him proving critics wrong.

Sick knockout though that he had to dig deep for. Was awesome.

I was not aware people made of rubber were allowed to compete in UFC.

I feel like alpha male guys are always in shape, and Connor spent months prepping for a striker, not a grappler. The full camp excuse is moot.

Being in shape and being in fighting shape are different though. Mendes wasn't preparing for a fight at all. I feel Mendes as of right now could've been Conor's toughest matchup in that division. Frankie has relentless pace but I feel he would get picked apart standing up, and might not have the strength to keep Conor down like Mendes.

Once again, give Connor a full training camp of dealing with takedowns, and you'd see a difference in Connor's take down d. Then what would Chad do?

I agree, Conor would be better as it looked several times he got taken down easily.

Chad of course gassed early and had no chance in the standup.

Chad gassed mainly because of getting kicked in the liver about 15 times.

I really think Conir showed some huge weaknesses in that fight.
