Looks good!

Wishbone 04-13-2016 03:54 AM

Neat. Not a Doctor Strange fan by any means, but this looks like it's shaping up to be a pretty good movie. Definitely gonna see it.

Tom Guycott 04-13-2016 04:23 AM

The only thing that is putting me off so far is Bennidict's accent... and that is mainly because his 'Murican here sounds too much like the moment he used it in Sherlock to make fun of the CIA operative.

Rammsteinmad 04-13-2016 08:35 AM

Looks awesome! That weird Inception-like scene looked insane.

Kalyx triaD 04-14-2016 01:25 AM

Trippy

Damian Rey 2.0 04-14-2016 03:02 AM

Looks sweet.

Disturbed316 04-14-2016 04:07 AM

Interesting

Rammsteinmad 04-14-2016 08:21 AM

Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to get a whole lot bigger. :D

slik 04-14-2016 10:19 AM

With all the flippy and trippy this might be a film that actually is better to see in 3D

Rammsteinmad 04-14-2016 10:26 AM

Since no one has posted this yet...

ClockShot 04-14-2016 10:33 AM

I really gotta track down that 80's Doctor Strange movie I saw on Sci-Fi channel when I was home sick from school as a kid. Thought it was neat at the time.

Rammsteinmad 04-14-2016 10:49 AM

I got that on DVD. It's from the 70's, and it's fucking awful.

evanbrown 04-14-2016 10:55 AM

lol

:wtf:

VSG 04-14-2016 01:02 PM

The animated movie isn't too bad I thought.

JimmyMess 07-24-2016 01:29 AM

now that looks epic!

Fignuts 07-24-2016 02:11 AM

Okay, waaaaaaaay more hype for this after that trailer

Fignuts 07-24-2016 02:11 AM

Ahahahaha Wong is being played by a guy named Wong.

ClockShot 07-24-2016 08:40 AM

Benedict Wong sounds like he brought a bit of his Kublai Khan character with him.

No problem with that.

Rammsteinmad 07-24-2016 02:11 PM

Fuck me the visuals of that trailer looked amazing.

Shadow 07-24-2016 03:08 PM

I have no clue what the story is, what the fuck is going on or even if this is gonna be any good. But fuck me if it doesn't look pretty.

Also that last joke....fucking hell.

Fignuts 07-25-2016 03:38 AM

Wonder if Dormammu will show up, or if they'll save him for a possible sequel and turn mordo heel as the main villain for this one.

Leaning heavily toward the latter, since Kaecilius is a Mordo lackey in the comics

Damian Rey 2.0 07-27-2016 12:13 AM

Well if nothing else this looks incredibly interesting.

drave 07-29-2016 05:10 PM

Inception: The Comic

Rammsteinmad 10-25-2016 06:24 PM

OH MY GOD!!! Just realized this was released today in the UK! Holy fuck how did I miss this! Gonna go see it tomorrow 12 noon! Hopefully cinema will be pretty quiet, but it's half-term so might be loads of school kids in there. Urgh...

Can't wait!

Rammsteinmad 10-26-2016 10:32 AM

Shit, just got back. Amazing film! As always, Marvel delivers, perfect blend of story, action, comedy, moral lessons and visuals. Another awesome chapter to the MCU.

As with every Marvel film, stick around until the end...

SPOILER: show
Dr. Strange and Thor talking about finding Odin! Can only assume this means Dr. Strange will be in Ragnarok! :D

Also, I loved the reference to a soldier who had a crushed spine from an experimental armour. Can only assume that was the guy in Iron Man, or Iron Man 2, I forget which one, where the armour did a 180 spin with the guy inside. Nice. :y:

Wouldn't that be Rhodey? (havent seen it...but I mean it sounds like it...)

Sixx 10-26-2016 10:53 AM

sure as hell it's rhodey

Rammsteinmad 10-26-2016 10:57 AM

But tying into the MCU continuity, in Winter Soldier when they mentioned Stephen Strange, he was being spoken about as a sorcerer or someone with magic powers. That spinal reference happened when he was still an arrogant doctor, and his mystical training supposedly took weeks/months. So it happened "in the past" so to speak.

Rammsteinmad 10-26-2016 10:59 AM

I mean, by Civil War, the War Machine armour was hardly "experimental" anymore.

Wasn't it in Iron Man 2 where Stark was in the congress meeting and had all the footage from bad countries coping the Iron Man suit. And Justin Hammer's model did a 180 with the guy inside?

slik 10-26-2016 12:46 PM

@Rammsteinmad

QUESTION

SPOILER: show

I heard you see Dormammu in the film - what does he look like/do you think he could be the next 'big bad' after the Avengers face Thanos???

Sixx 10-26-2016 12:52 PM

you really think they'd be referencing some random guy people barely remember? they're talking about rhodey, come on.

Rammsteinmad 10-26-2016 01:02 PM

Have you seen the film yet? If it was Rhodey, it wouldn't have been mentioned as a "someone who had his spine crushed by an experimental armour", they would have flat out said it was War Machine of the Avengers or something.

It definitely wasn't Rhodey. It was a subtle reference to a small incident in a past movie.

SPOILER: show
This is an interesting one, because Dormammu reminded me of Galactus in Rise of the Silver Surfer. Whilst everyone hated the giant cloud, the truth is, it'd be hard to get something from this character that doesn't look ridiculous. In the comics, if I recall, Dorm has a purple costume and a flaming head... in this movie he's most a giant head/face in a spiritual dark realm, with lots of stuff moving and shifting, illusions or whatever. It's hard to explain. I'd say, visually they do the character well, but he doesn't really do much though, so I could see him potentially coming back somewhere down the line. Dunno about being an MCU "big bad" level threat though, but definitely in Doctor Strange's franchise.

Rammsteinmad 10-26-2016 01:09 PM

Also, in regards to that soldier incident, the context in which Strange hears about it is whilst being told about potential patients. He turned this one down for some reason (can't remember what), but his assistant would have said flat-out if it was one of the Avengers, and Strange certainly wouldn't have turned down such a high-profile case such as this.

Nope. No way was it Jim Rhodes.

Edit: Guy on IMDB has it spot-on:

Quote:

I don't believe that was a reference to Civil War, the War Machine armour is worldly known by this point so it wouldn't be referred to as "experimental armour".

I believe it was reference to Justin Hammers pilot who had his spine twisted in Iron Man 2 which would make sense as the time then taken by Strange to learn magic would send the timeline straight after Civil War for the climatic battle.

Otherwise Doctor Strange is set multiple years after Civil War which would not make sense as to
SPOILER: show
Thors post credit scene ect.

Wishbone 10-30-2016 02:04 AM

Nabbed advanced tickets to see this Wednesday. Really looking forward to it and I don't even read the Doctor Strange comics.

Fignuts 11-04-2016 02:19 AM

I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. As far as origin stories go, it's definitely one of the better ones.

Optimus Bone 69 11-04-2016 10:53 AM

Never liked him in the comics but i loved the movie
2 crippled thumbs up

Destor 11-04-2016 09:29 PM

Really hope this earns enough for a sequel :y:

slik 11-06-2016 01:25 AM

Doctor Strange - the visuals are like "Inception" on steroids. The plot is kind of the same as the first Iron Man film, but replace foreign terrorism with interdimensional terrorism. But - I liked the first Iron Man film - and I liked Doctor Strange! Good acting by Cumberbatch and McAdams too. Neat way to introduce magic (and explain where it comes from) into the MCU.

Would recommend seeing in IMAX 3D.

Rammsteinmad 11-06-2016 05:42 AM

Looks like another winner for Marvel. :D

Always thought Iron Man, much as I enjoyed it, fell apart in the 2nd half. I thought this was pretty consistent throughout.

Destor 11-06-2016 09:18 AM

Its already beat out Hulk, Thor 1, Antman and Cap 1s opening weekend numbers with one day to go.

Kalyx triaD 11-07-2016 01:48 AM

Those are the most beatable MCU movies.

Destor 11-07-2016 08:12 AM

3nd highest grossing MCU origin film (and the fact that as of now its made 325mil global) pretty much garuntees a sequel.

Oh amd Guardians beat it by 10mil opening weekend.

For new IP it didnt shocking well.

Kalyx triaD 11-07-2016 05:48 PM

Well if you're gonna make distinctions between origin films and sequels sure.

Which is absolutely logical to do so given all box data present

slik 11-08-2016 03:34 AM

I think Dormammu could be the next big threat after Thanos in the MCU. I think we only got a hint of him here. He has no reason to take a physical form entirely in his own dimension. If he invades Earth all the Avengers are going to be needed.

Fignuts 11-08-2016 05:44 AM

I dunno. Dormammu, despite how powerful he is, has always been c-list in terms of relevance.

Big problem with post Thanos Avengers is that a lot of their more iconic adversaries (Dr. Doom, Kang, Galactus) are a part of the Fantastic Four license. Hopefully they can pull the license or at least some of those characters away from Fox by the time Infinity War is over.

Rammsteinmad 11-08-2016 06:56 AM

If they can get him, Galactus would be awesome for the next phase. Although, in terms of giant clouds/big men with pointy helmets, it'd be cool to see what the MCU does with him.

Failing that, Dormammu could still work. Iron Man was a B-list character until his movie came out, now he's one of the most recognizable comic characters in the world.

Destor 11-08-2016 07:19 AM

Id like Cul Borson personally

Lock Jaw 11-08-2016 11:15 PM

Saw this movie, was alright..... wish it took "more chances" and was less "Marvel movie formulaic"........ Still enjoyable.....

Thought the girl nurse/love interest was very underdeveloped/pointless/shoehorned in

ClockShot 11-10-2016 07:10 PM

Got back from this and had a blast.

SPOILER: show
Marked out big at the Eye of Agamotto actually getting in. The Cloak of Levitation being it's own character was sweet too.

This opens the door for other Marvel characters, too. Marvel just got the rights to Blade back from New Line Cinema. So, here's hoping.

Damian Rey 2.0 11-10-2016 10:38 PM

I'd love a new Blade movie actually.

Ruien 11-10-2016 11:00 PM

Ehhh. Was okay.

Corporate CockSnogger 11-11-2016 08:04 AM

Thought it was one of the weaker MCU films, personally. I've never read too much on Dr Strange as he's never really appealed to me, so not having that connection to his lore might well play a part in not enjoying it as much as others. I think I often struggle to connect with characters whose power is pretty much "wave hand and do anything you like"

Also, not quite sure an origin of his goatee was necessary.

Corporate CockSnogger 11-11-2016 08:06 AM

Having said that, I think Strange will work pretty well as a side character/cameo alongside the other major characters like what looks to be his role in Thor.

Kalyx triaD 11-12-2016 09:15 PM

Having Dorm beat by what's essentially a gag/prank (albeit a clever one) kinda burries him from being a big bad for the next three phases.

Dr Doom really needs to get back to Marvel because he's the only big bad who would justify a macro arc like Thanos got. Way more than Galactus, imo.

Fignuts 11-13-2016 01:32 AM

Honestly, the only way I see the MCU continueing without a hard reboot, would be if they got the x-men, tje fantastic four, or both.

Avengers don't have a deep enough rogues gallery to top what Infinity War is shaping up to be. And elevating someone like Dormammu just to give them someone to fight would feel...cheap. And lazy.

Buries him for like 15 years? DAMN.

Kalyx triaD 11-13-2016 01:47 AM

OR as I discussed with a bud a few nights ago they drop the macro serial nature of the phases and do one shot movies without trying to create sub-franchises. Along with doing more cross over/assemble movies. This way we'll get a Black Widow movie, Warriors Three netflix special, etc. Spread out. Use the characters. They won't be able to count on converging events for long. It simply can't get bigger than Infinity War.

Unless they complete MCU's pseudo 'War' trilogy with... Secret Wars.

...Nah.

Had they simply had Strange do a straight bargain of some sort where he leaves and takes his cult, we could save and tease him for after Thanos. But character story telling has a lot in common with pro wrasslin credibility; you have to sell characters. And they can be burried.

The way Dorm was defeated was unique, but he will not headline an Avengers movie. Whedon had to have a pow wow with executives to have Loki lose to a punchline!

Dr Doom or Masters of Evil for the second macro arc.

I think an adaptation of Avengers vs X-men could equal Infinity War in scale, and even surpass it in tms of name value and marketability.

Kalyx triaD 11-13-2016 08:39 PM

Either way it seems like Fox is who needs to break bread. They can start with letting Jackman play an MCU version of Logan.

Destor 11-13-2016 11:32 PM

Doctor Strange tops Suicide Squads 2 week world wide despite having a slower week 1.

Destor 11-13-2016 11:33 PM

(492mil vs 462mil)

XL 12-07-2016 01:42 PM

Finally got to see this. It was pretty good, even if it follows the standard Marvel Origin Movie. Looking forward to Strange and Thor comparing capes.
