Miz goes nuclear on Bryan
Thanks to slik for posting a clip of this from WWE twitter. So insane it needs its own thread instead of being buried in the Smackdown thread.
From Talking Smack: <iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/v7j2" width="640" height="361" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen scrolling="no"></iframe> |
Just going to go ahead and drop a ridiculous hot take:
This is the "Hard Times" of the modern era, and no one will ever see it. |
The Miz just earned a huge fan LOL WOWWWW that was great.
The Miz was fucking intense. Holy shit!
Daniel Bryan looked like a huge pussy in that.
Really hopes that leads into an amazing storyline for Smackdown. Would feel very refreshing for the roles to be reversed instead of the typical heel boss vs face champ/underdog.
dang. miz is top shit.
I love it!
Emotions are running high at the moment and I compared the promo with this old nugget (in my head).
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fKU_k9mcZsc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Probably the best Miz moment of all-time tbh. He's come a long way since he main-evented WM. Just a great segment.
Good segment. Bryan looks like a pussy and makes his friend look great. Bryan's been a little shit on this Talking Smack show for awhile now.

Why the fuck was this confrontation on the aftershow and not smackdown?
Mix should win an Oscar for this.
If "Austin 3:16" had a promo baby with "Hard Times" it would be this.
Whats the Hard Times promo?
What?

It's great but like I said in the Smackdown thread it kind of teasing a Bryan return a bit. If he's truly done it's not to smart to tease that stuff but I liked it.

I echo above, that should have been on the show not some obscure after show that only a fraction of the fans will watch.
Actually, make it Rhyno and have Miz win. Bring up Joe later for when Miz finally loses.
This is almost as uncomfortable as what happened in casual earlier today.
Yeah! Daniel made it seem like he was upset (4 realzies)
Fucks sake, I just got an email saying an item from WWE is coming for delivery today. That will be my Daniel Bryan t-shirt I can't wear anymore thanks to The Miz.
Meh I didn't enjoy this as much as you all seem to have. It was kinda neat seeing Miz get all intense, but it wasn't groundbreaking or anything in my opinion.
Let's not forget the last time Miz was shooting on people retiring due to concussions.
<iframe src="https://vid.me/e/H5JC?stats=1" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen scrolling="no"></iframe> Miz leaving sufferers like http://i.imgur.com/Gwfth5X.gif |
Best modern heel, easy.
Seems dumb making the newly-retired GM look like shit when there's no pay-off of Bryan coming back to seek revenge.....

To me, the whole thing writes itself (and I'm not commenting on match quality because it would probably be shit regardless with mix).
Handpicked opponent for Backlash: Rhyno with Miz going over Handpicked opponent for No Mercy: Kane with Miz going over Handpicked opponent for Survivor Series: Mystery opponent, fat man walking trombone hits and Samoa Joe comes out and takes his title. |
That was good stuff. To address some questions:
Why is this on Talking Smack? Because they want people to subscribe to the WWE Network to be the first to catch moments like this. What you have is the perfect avenue for stars to sell their personalities in a less scripted environment. Where will this go? Where it should have gone as soon as Bryan cheekily drafted The Miz just to get the IC Title on SmackDown. The historic tensions between Bryan and The Miz can be exploited for so much drama. Does Bryan purposely look for someone to crush Miz now? Does Miz point out that Bryan has become everything he fought against when he became the Intercontinental Champion? Does Bryan force Maryse to sign an active competitor's contract to continue to appear there? Miz showed that he still has that 2010 level work in him -- people forget how good he was in the second half of that year. His stock went up. There were also very likable elements to that promo. But he also made the IC Title seem like the focus. He could very easily hold that belt until Mania at this point. |
Bryan should look like a pussy since he can't wrestle anymore and Miz is an active performer.
Where the hell has THIS version of The Miz been lately?! That was amazing.
I loved that. Bryan and Miz should feud forever.

Wondering how much of that was real. Didn't shit go down on another talking smack a week or two ago?

Goddamn, Miz. That was amazing.
Though it does just make me more sad that the promos on the main show are so scripted and paint-by-numbers. Wish guys were able to show this much personality and emotion all the time. |
The reason why it was on talking smack is because it was ad-libbed, not scripted.
General rule of thumb: if a promo actually makes people question in the slightest whether it was a work or shoot, it was a fucking awesome promo.
Obviously nothing in WWE is a total shoot, but if you can get caught in the moment at the time you're watching it it's wonderful. |
Funny thing is is that I was gonna create a thread asking if there has ever been a WWE champ that was never injured before. And apparently yes, Miz has never been injured I guess.
Does that concussion and not remembering the main event of Mania 27 count?
To be fair I don't really remember the main event of Mania.
Goddamn that wsa some hot fire.
Renee seemed like she didnt know this was going down. And they did a good job of making it look legit. Bryan kept edging to shoot comments and Miz tried to keep it kayfabe, t hen finally went wit hthe "You wanna shoot, lets shoot" and fucking laid it down. Fucking loved it. You could see the real feelings in the Miz. Guy has been up and down and has been shit on by people all along. |

He has a point about the wrestlers getting injured too. Balor and Rollins are both recent examples of why his 'coward' moveset is smart.
Regardless of whether she was kept completely in the dark or not, I thought there was also some subtle perfection in Renee's role. She tried to mediate for just a moment but then didn't fuck with it. Also, she's hot.
What makes this so effective is that hes a Heel, tearing down a face, with nothing but TRUTH people dont want to hear.
This isnt meaningless shit like "Im going to end your legacy" or "Im the best yay" Legit truth in this makes it not only real, but gives it real stakes. Miz has legit been there day in and day out working his ass off to get over without needing to fall on risky moves that put him on the shelf. People love Finn but now wont see him for 6 months. Rollins, Bryan, Neville. Part of being a great performer is....being there to perform. |

Bottom line is that I hope they realize what it means to have a "viral hit" and how much that means in the media these days. It means more to late night than traditional ratings to a certain degree.
Then they have to run with it and build off it so that what got people clicking on this get interested in the product they're selling. |

I honestly think that there were shoot aspects in this. This is a guy who has heard all this a million times, who wrestles more matches a year than guys who keep getting injured, who out-promos the majority of the guys in his brand, and here he is getting put down because of his "style". He knows that this is the safe way of saying "you are not a good enough wrestler". I think it struck a nerve and there is a lot more frustration and passion in that promo than there normally would be. He seems to regain himself at the end, possibly because Bryan walked off? And starts to direct it back into normal promo mode. Whatever it is it is interesting, and to be honest, a great answer to AT's thread about story or match. Story all day long...when it gets it right like this has so far. |
270k views as of this post....fucking hell this is truly gold!!
Miz could easily be the top heel.
Funny enough, Bryan is right about Miz's work and Miz is right about Bryan's work.
I wish the performers were able to do things like this more...I feel they basically allowed him a "pipe-bomb" type promo to a certain degree. They basically told him "Say what you want, how you want it, but here's what we want you to accomplish."
The more i've thought about it, i feel like it's a work. I think if this was a total shoot, Renee would have kept her mouth shut and not try to interject.
Quote:
She is the host, it's her job to keep things on track, bit yeah, you have made me second guess it with that thought. |
It is a work, total work. It's just not scripted and touches on real issues and Miz's delivery is on point, that's it.
Yeah. There is no such thing as a total shoot in WWE. You think they would have let CM Punk carry on with his pipebomb for as long as he did before cutting off the mic?
They might tell guys to ad-lib and talk about whatever they want but the company knows roughly what will transpire. |
If that was a work it was Brilliant. If it was a shoot I feel it is kinda of a dick move as its common knowledge Bryan didn't retire on his own accord.
Miz will probably lose the IC belt to Konnor* now
*most embarrassing guy on SD roster I could think of to lose to. Suppose he could face a local jobber.. |

Still, the fact that some people question it shows how good it is. |
Gotta be worked, cause WWE just posted this as well....

I also like the part where he says he's never been injured and missed time. No he just misses time to film stupid movies that no one cares about
And what is the point you're trying make exactly? The best part of that promo on Bryan is that it's true.
I also totally forgot the Miz was Bryans mentor on NXT.
Quote:
Which sort of makes me think that he will eventually wrestle again for the WWE and that his GM role is a way to keep him relevant while letting him heal up 100% to WWEs liking. |
I have thought that The Miz has been one of the best heels in the company for several years now. Amazing talker, and I love the passion of this promo. His stuff with Sandow was fantastic heeling, and I do love the reverse motivations of this, where the heel has the legit grievances. Great job here--the difference between the overthought scripting and letting good talkers go is gaping.
Could the retirement be a work? Probably not but he was awful optimistic about being able to wrestle again before he retired. Don't think he could just go wrestle at "bingo halls" as WWE would probably do the same they did with Rey and adding more time to the deal or just making him wait til his contract expires.
Yup. Word was he wanted to at one point but they were gonna invoke whatever clause that was to keep him from performing. Something about how they can add time to the deal if the wrestler misses time due to injury so they could hold onto him long term.
No, the retirement isn't a work. It's as much a work as Edge's was. |
I highly doubt they would have kept Bryan on the shelf during the last Mania if it was a work. WWE was begging for talanet to not be injured for it.

It was good but expected more with how everyone is praising it.

You clearly missed the part where is talking about white power and how the WWE is kissing up to the minorities.

I'm gonna put this out there:
I think "Hard Times" is overrated. |

I still hate the Miz in the ring, I'm not going to waste my time watching his matches. What an awesome promo like this does though is make sure that if I skip past the finish, I'll rewind and see who won rather than just carry on with the event.
Good segement.
The guy is not a bad worker by any means, but his matches are easily forgettable. He's the type of guy who would benefit from learning how to throw a great punch and really key in on story telling. He's never going to be able to go move for move with some of the freaks on the roster. Lol some of the freaks on the roster would benefit from throwing a decent punch and telling a story too, but if Miz just simplifies and really starts connecting IN RING with the crowd as opposed to JUST being a very good promo, he'd really be a can't miss.
