So happy about this. He was messed up for a long while, but it's hard to argue with how great he was in WWE.

Evil Vito 01-16-2017 05:34 PM

Angle had been telling people he can't take booking past March. So I don't know if this means that he's signed with the company in some other capacity. I still highly doubt he'll ever be cleared to wrestle another WWE match

Emperor Smeat 01-16-2017 05:44 PM

This year's class is going to be among the best if the rest of the rumored class ends up being true.

To be fair a bit, if the WWE ever uses the "as first reported" tag, it means they wanted it to get leaked out. They want to make it seem like news is actually covering wrestling like sports when in reality its just the WWE sending them stuff to announce.

Mr. Nerfect 01-16-2017 05:47 PM

This is good. I imagine he's going to be paid a lot of money not to wrestle. Here is your headliner, folks. I imagine he'll be a WWE Ambassador and that we'll be hearing "Medal" hit whenever they want to get those "You suck!" chants going to wake up the audience and do some goofy Kurt stuff from time-to-time. Maybe he will tell Rusev that he wants to have "Beastiality sex" with Lana? Probably not, but that sort of stuff.

He'll be in the video game and that is where you can get your Kurt Angle in all his glory fix. Specials will be on the WWE Network. Angle might even get a shot as a commentator for the WWE. He and Mauro would make a great team to call one of the WWE's tournaments or one-off specials. Or maybe they pair him with Michael Cole at first to ease him into things?

But yeah, I'm not holding my breath for a Kurt Angle wrestling match in the WWE -- although if he can pass the physical it will obviously be wonderful. Styles vs. Angle at WrestleMania is probably the meal ticket, with Angle doing the "Greatest of All-Time" thing against Styles' "I should still be champion" shtick.

Mr. Nerfect 01-16-2017 05:49 PM

This year's rumored class seems really "modern." Angle and Christian in the same year? Even DDP is kind of from that Attitude era. I know they like living and healthy guys going in, but I hope that there are some historical figures that go in. I think after a certain point I don't think Lou Thesz and Mildred Burke are expected to be with us anymore.

Meltzer is saying that it's more than just HoF. "He'll be around in some form".

Mr. Nerfect 01-16-2017 05:54 PM

If anyone's body is still somehow holding together after all these years, it would be Kurt Angle. The dude won a gold medal with a broken freakin' neck. I just hope the WWE is on the level with this.

* Cena vs. Taker

* Reigns vs. Goldberg

* Brock vs. Shane (coached by Bryan)

* Styles vs. Angle

* Rollins vs. Triple H

* Owens & Jericho vs. The New Day vs. The Hardys

* Zayn vs. Nakamura

* Neville vs. Ibushi

* Lynch vs. Lita

* American Alpha vs. Revival

That this could potentially be the WrestleMania card is fucking surreal. Obviously it's not going to go down this way, but to think that it could.

Probably replacing Foley as the GM of RAW if he's sticking around for tv stuff. RAW's been teasing Foley getting the boot almost since he got named to the job.

Cool King 01-16-2017 06:35 PM

Whatever happened to just waiting for things to be announced on WWE TV and not having things "leaked" on to the internet and all that?

I like my surprises, so something like Michael Cole announcing the first entry into the Hall of Fame, then the HoF graphic playing on the screen, followed by the intro the Angle's theme, would have been amazing and such a surprise.

Instead, the announcement is made on the internet with just a line of text saying Angle is in, accompanied by a photo of him. Big woop.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy he's in, but that's it. I don't feel overjoyed, surprised or ecstatic or whatever. I just read the news and thought "Oh, that's cool".

I always expected that I would be surprised and really happy when this time would come, that I found out Angle would be inducted into the Hall of Fame, but here I am now just thinking "cool".

I feel a bit let down.

Ruien 01-16-2017 06:50 PM

WOOOOOO ANGLE. PUT HIM IN THE RUMBLE TO GIVE SOME A ANGLE SLAM!!!!!

ClockShot 01-16-2017 07:07 PM

Okay, he's going in the Hall of Fame. But weren't the dirt sheets reporting there was nothing to the rumors of being an entrant in the Rumble?

Now I'm confused. But, nice that he's going in.

Frank Drebin 01-16-2017 07:14 PM

What Cool King said. Would have marked out like a mo fo if his music hit during the Rumble. Now I'm just waiting around for him to show up in some way no later than the Raw (or SD?) after the Rumble and if not, I'll be disappointed.

Frank Drebin 01-16-2017 07:16 PM

The closest Ill get to marking out like I would have is if he shows up tonight since this announcement still feels fresh. Plus, I'm sure a good percentage of the live crowd tonight won't have heard the news so they'll be hot in theory.

RP 01-16-2017 07:18 PM

Love it. Well deserved. One of my favorite when he was going. Especially his stuff with Austin during the Alliance stuff.

RP 01-16-2017 07:21 PM

I'm still hoping he makes an appearence at RR or WM

RP 01-16-2017 07:22 PM

I'm just glad he's back with WWE. That guy is one of the reasons i bought WWE network. His matches with Benoit are epic. His matches with Austin are amazing. His match with HHH was great. He was truly amazing.

Sepholio 01-16-2017 07:27 PM

God hope he's on tonight now to seal the deal.

Frank Drebin 01-16-2017 07:28 PM

Going to watch the show because of him hoping he returns tonight.

I'd be surprised if he could pass their medical tests considering for years they never wanted him back if it involved actual wrestling matches. He's been healthy since leaving TNA but also has a ton of wear and tear on his neck.

Last year the WWE flat out rejected his offer to return since they weren't willing to include wrestling matches in any deal offered.

Damian Rey 2.0 01-16-2017 07:34 PM

Would the Rumble count? I mean it's a pretty safe environment.

I do hope he gets a moment in the ring to shine.

Frank Drebin 01-16-2017 07:35 PM

Please don't bring him back just do have him be GM or some shit.

Sepholio 01-16-2017 07:52 PM

I'd assume if he entered the Rumble, he'd probably have to win it like when the Iron Sheik won the Gimmick Rumle because of how messed up his hip/back was at the time. Not sure if the WWE would even want to risk anything happening to his neck if Angle got tossed out.

Then again if he can actually pass their medical testing, they probably wouldn't be worried about that.

Chyna is more well known to than Trish. Both are above Sable though.

Stickman 01-17-2017 05:55 PM

Through revionist history they made Sunny out to be a much bigger deal than she really was. At least I could legit buy Sable going in since she was a pretty big ratings draw for a period.

Its a hallf of fame though not a hall of shame. they wont be inducting a porn star this year or next.

It's not revisionist history. She was the most viewed woman on the internet in '96/'97. She was a pretty big deal. Not even getting into the fact that she was a really good manager and could cut a promo.

Thats a good point. Total Divas has a following outside of wrestling that is oddly substantial.

Bad News Gertner 01-18-2017 01:12 PM

Sherri? Martel?

Big Vic 01-18-2017 01:17 PM

I would say Sherri edges out Chyna, she worked in WWF when it had it's first peak and in WCW at it's peak.

Hogan/Savage/Elizabeth was a huge angle.

Bad News Gertner 01-18-2017 01:37 PM

The average person does not know who Sherri Martel is. Heck, there's probably a decent amount of people who watch Raw every week that don't know who she is.

I immediately thought of Austin to be the one to induct Kurt, and that's the guy he wants. I hope it comes to fruition.

Says more about the fans than Sherri. She was an iconic manageress with Macho, Ted, Shawn.

Also a very good woman's wrestler back in the day and woman's champion.

Across the board. Random people. Any age range. If you asked a hundred people who they were like 90-95 would know who Chyna is. Elizabeth might get like... 20. It would not be close.

No logical reason that would be the case. Elizabeth was a big deal at the height of Hulkamania.

#1-norm-fan 01-18-2017 02:48 PM

I can only imagine you're just talking about wrestling fans specifically? In which case, it's much closer obviously but Chyna would still be known by more.

Nah wrestling was huge in pop culture during that time.

I think it would be closer than that. People know Randy Savage and thus they will know Ms. Elizabeth.

Also people might be confused and think you mean the country China. Unless you did some sort of photos side by side like the Pepsi Challenge.

Big Vic 01-18-2017 03:00 PM

Miss Elizabeth was active in WCW until 1999

"I base this on feelings, not facts"

#1-norm-fan 01-18-2017 03:02 PM

Sure it was. Elizabeth, while she was part of the main event scene, did not get NEARLY the mainstream attention Chyna got though. Wrestling was pretty huge in pop culture during Chyna's time AND she actually went on to do other things that got her known outside of wrestling. In the internet age where shit gets spread like a wildfire, no less. Chyna's gotta be at least 10 times more famous than Elizabeth and I really don't think that's an exaggeration.

#1-norm-fan 01-18-2017 03:05 PM

I think you guys are reeeeeeeealy over-estimating how much common people give a shit about wrestling chicks enough to know them from a popular wrestling storyline even at the height of its popularity. If you don't know/care about wrestling, you don't know/care who Miss Elisabeth is. If you don't know/care about wrestling, you still are very likely to know who Chyna is.
