I'm sure there will be some controversy with the Buddy Rose pick since he had a relatively successful career in the 70's/80's. But I remember him for his 90's jobbing days and he fits into the "over 25 matches with under a 25% win percentage" guideline. So he's in.

Buddy Rose isnt a job guy in my book. But he def could shine a guy up with the best of him so if youre asking who id rather have on my card getting guys over it would be Rose

Yeah, I gotta stretch the definition a little as to not run out of memorable jobbers. You could make the argument that Bill Irwin shouldn't be labeled a jobber either. That's why I made a definitive guideline. Rose had a memorable jobber run though.

How was he being presented when he was challenging for the title? I feel like even then, while he was a good heel and a personality, he was never really a serious contender. Was he actually winning a lot back then and being built up or was he closer to jobber to the stars level?

The legit Playboy Buddy Rose would probably beat the fuck outta you if you called him a jobber if he was still alive.

He usually came to the ring with two women (a young Sherri Martel sometimes), and was presented as a legit threat big time. Sort of a fat Ric Flair. Rose was no jobber at all. He was damn good and damn impressive. Jobbers don't main event Madison Square Garden

Also, Buddy Rose came into the WWF with a video package. The WWF NEVER did stuff like that until 1984.

The jobber competition is much more complicated than better wrestler. I did not forsee this.

I am sure the likes of Sheamus/MVP and anyone with a losing streak gimmick for a few months falls into that category. Probably guys like Jericho too.

That's enough to get the likes of Ascension/Vaudevillains and even Ryder/Slater who are talented job guys, while excluding big fish who clearly aren't jobbers

That's the guideline over their entire career, not over just a short span. Sheamus (62.76%) and MVP (46.14%) wouldn't fall into that category nor would someone who just had a 2 month losing streak angle over an otherwise successful career.

I may start using cagematch.net for win percentages though as I think they have a more extensive match listing (though that could be misleading since they count a lot of indy promotions that probably shouldn't factor in.) Buddy Rose is at 10.52% on ProfightDB but JUST misses the cutoff on cagematch.net at 26.1%.

Cagematch and Wrestlingdata miss a TON of House Show results while compiling their figures.

I'm not really that concerned with some missing house show results. They only serve to inflate the numbers needlessly.

But like I said, there's pure jobbers and there's guys who won house show matches but were t.v jobbers

Their house show wins would just serve to inflate their winning percentage needlessly though. I want those guys eligible.

He's also won more often than not on TV. He's really not even a jobber.

All this Buddy Rose praise makes El Dandy seem like the clear choice here.

Though if we are able to just ignore the rest and judge solely on their jobber stints, I think Rose still takes it. Rose actually had a gimmick as a jobber. Impressive. If Barry O had gotten on the mic before every match to tell the crowd that Terry Garvin tried to blow him, he'd still be in this thing. It's all about being memorable.

Jobber doesnt mean being shitty. Rose did spend time as a job guy in the 90s. If you isolate just the period id prefer rose to el dandy ive i were looking to book a job guy

Jerry Flynn was my guy in WCW. I remember when he beat Booker T with a spin kick on Nitro. Lost my shit. Pretty sure I remember him beating Saturn too.

Horowitz beating Skip is one of my most enduring early WWE memories tbh. It really is all about being memorable.

El Dandy looks like James Remar in that picture.

I loved Buddy Rose's short run in XPW. Looking like he was 600lbs and covered with grease. In a hot tub surrounded by sleazy porn stars. But yeah Buddy was amazing in Portland and pretty much every where until he got to WWF.

And it is thanks to Buddy that so much of the Portland wrestling footage survived. Before his death finding Portland footage was a bit hard. Then Buddy dies and they find in his home that he had tape after tape of Portland wrestling. So now so much great Portland footage is out there for everyone to watch.

There's a Rick Martel vs Buddy Rose match from Portland that I've been meaning to watch. Heard a lot of good things about it
