SNES Classic Launches 29/09/17 $80, 21 games including Star Fox 2

First ever official release of Star Fox 2. Amazing.

Thankfully, I'm sure the European one will actually look like the nice SNES we got instead of that US ugly one.

Fignuts 06-26-2017 01:24 PM

lol even less games than the NES classic.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-26-2017 01:30 PM

I'd probably say the average quality is wayyy higher though. Plus, with FF6, Earthbound and Mario RPG in there, a metric fuck ton of hours. Plus, 2 controllers.

I barely had any interest in the NES (bar the shell for a RetroPi), but I'm pre-ordering this as soon as I see it available.

Sexy EU model confirmed here too thank fuck.

SlickyTrickyDamon 06-26-2017 02:00 PM

Doesn't even have Super Mario All Stars?

#BROKEN Hasney 06-26-2017 02:06 PM

Nintendo always ignore it, probably because Mario 1 has a stupid momentum bug which ruins parts of the game.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-26-2017 03:00 PM

So again probably, once they're gone, they're gone.

It's like they don't understand that they can actually make more profit by meeting demand as opposed to selling a preselected number of units.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-26-2017 03:24 PM

From what they say, making these actually hinders Switch production. Right now, Apple is gearing up for the next iPhone so the memory modules and displays are being taken up by them, slowing Switch down anyway.

These are basically to get Nintendos name out there again and try to convert people to Switch because that's where the real money is rather than a one off purchase.

Ruien 06-26-2017 03:43 PM

I want this but feel like it will be prices at like 150 now.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-26-2017 03:47 PM

The price is in the title, $79.99.

Amazin UK pre-orders are full. Not gone up for order in the US.

Ruien 06-26-2017 03:50 PM

80 is reasonable.

Emperor Smeat 06-26-2017 04:35 PM

Very small amount of third party games but at least Nintendo learned by including another controller and making the cables longer this time.

screech 06-26-2017 04:46 PM

Was hoping to see Turtles in Time on there, but that's a fun collection. Including two controllers is great also, I just hope they make more than 37 of them.

Cool King 06-26-2017 04:50 PM

I'm trying to pre-order it but the website keeps screwing up.

ClockShot 06-26-2017 05:07 PM

So, is this the one that can use cartridges too?

Or is just emulation again?

Emperor Smeat 06-26-2017 05:10 PM

Emulation.

ClockShot 06-26-2017 05:14 PM

Oh fiddlesticks.

But that's a solid line up and reasonable price. Might just go reserve one at Gamestop tomorrow.

#BROKEN Hasney 06-27-2017 02:57 PM

The creators of Star Fox 2 went out for a launch party 20 years late

Ruien 06-27-2017 07:01 PM

The only game missing that I would have loved is Mega man Soccer. :(

Fignuts 06-27-2017 07:16 PM

Have you played it recently? I loved it too, but it hasn't aged well. Its actually kind of terrible.

Destor 06-27-2017 07:18 PM

Mana/fire emblem >>>>>>>>>>>> the us/eu list

Fignuts 06-27-2017 07:21 PM

Secret of Mana is on the us list.

But yeah, missing out on Fire Emblem sucks

Destor 06-27-2017 07:22 PM

Clearly i over looked it. Points for us

Fignuts 06-27-2017 07:23 PM

Also, Punch out/Street Fighter/Seven Stars >>>>>>Fire Emblem

Destor 06-27-2017 07:37 PM

I dunno about all that...theyre stellar...but better...i dunno

Destor 06-27-2017 07:37 PM

Maybe we should start a better game series

Big Vic 06-28-2017 11:51 AM

Been a few years since the last series.

Sepholio 06-28-2017 12:07 PM

That shit is missing Chrono Trigger...

#BROKEN Hasney 06-28-2017 12:18 PM

There's licensing issues with Chrono Trigger constantly, have to go through the guys who made the art and all that every time they re-release it.

For those in the UK, Amazon is restricting pre-orders to only 1 per customer likely to combat scalping and let more people have a chance to buy the mini console. Also because they likely are not sure how many of those Classics will be sent to the UK.

They started sending out emails to those who ordered more than 1 console stating their pre-orders have been changed.

Emperor Smeat 07-26-2017 06:34 PM

Small warning to those who pre-ordered the new Classic at Walmart as the retailer recently canceled all pre-orders for the device.

Quote:

In an email to everyone who ordered an SNES Classic, Walmart explained that the page went live on accident. "Unfortunately, due to a technical glitch, the Super Nintendo Classic Edition was mistakenly made available last Friday evening ahead of the official release date. We, regrettably, will have to cancel this item on your order. We know that this is incredibly disappointing to you, and we’re truly sorry for this mistake," the email reads. The full letter is in the gallery below.

#BROKEN Hasney 08-01-2017 02:57 PM

Real USA pre-orders are starting next month.

ClockShot 08-01-2017 03:20 PM

Just waiting for the phone call from Gamestop.

Big Vic 08-22-2017 02:18 PM

Pre-orders sold out.

ClockShot 08-22-2017 03:18 PM

You would figure there would be an official announcement. Instead, nothing. Just let it go live and give zero notice to anybody.

Emperor Smeat 08-22-2017 06:33 PM

Some details about the Classic:

Quote:

the Super Nintendo Classic is coming with a couple of new features on top of it's 21 games. As expected, there are "suspend points" that let you save anywhere and at any time. There are also various frames you can put around the games as they run in 4:3 and you can even add simulated scan-lines in CRT mode for that old school feeling. But the real story here is the rewind feature.

Depending on the game, you can watch your own recorded gameplay footage from around 30 seconds to several minutes. At any point you can jump back in and continue to retry certain sections or pick up something you missed. What's more is when you leave the console idle, the system will play that automatically recording gameplay as a screensaver.

ClockShot 08-22-2017 08:15 PM

Managed to get my hands on one thanks to the hot tip about the Gamestop App.

Thanks, internet braintrust.

ClockShot 08-23-2017 08:17 AM

Toys R Us won't be offering pre-orders.

Instead, they'll have consoles in store on launch day. So, take the day off and get there/camp out early.

Big Vic 08-23-2017 09:20 AM

I already have that day off :D

Ruien 08-23-2017 09:32 AM

What day do they come out?

For those in Quebec, the SNES Classic is currently rumored to not be arriving for that part of Canada and Quebec's language laws as the rumored reason why.

Quote:

Speaking to website Motherboard, two anonymous employees of EB Games claim they were informed that the SNES Classic cannot be stocked due to Quebec's strict language laws. Since 2009, all video games that have been globally available in French must be released in French in the province.

Thus, if any of the games on the console ever had French translated ports, then the SNES Classic must include those ports, or not at all. This is the supposed reason that the console is unavailable in the province.

Nintendo Canada neither confirmed nor denied the reasoning. "Nintendo considers a number of factors when deciding which markets to launch its products in," a spokesperson wrote, "but we do not discuss details about our distribution plans."

Stupid Kapoutland.

Emperor Smeat 08-25-2017 06:54 PM

For those who pre-ordered the Classic on Amazon, the retailer sent emails saying its very likely shipping problems will cause orders to not arrive by launch date.

For those in the UK, Retro Gamer magazine announced they are reviving their Super Play magazine series for a special one-issue edition on the SNES Classic.

Quote:

To celebrate the release of the SNES Classic console, UK magazine Retro Gamer have announced that there will be a single-issue revival of dedicated magazine Super Play.

The magazine was a standard for UK Super Nintendo owners in the '90s. Featuring a wealth of news, reviews and previews. It also had a love of Japan, and would feature reviews of import titles and RPGs that many readers would longingly drool over, knowing they'd likely never see sight of them on UK shores. The final issue was released in September of 1996.

Super Play was instantly recognisable thanks to its glossy cover, always emblazoned with anime art by Wil Overton, who has thankfully returned (along with the original editorial team) for this one-off issue. StarFox 2 is the star of what will likely be the last issue of Super Play ever released.

Big Vic 09-12-2017 02:38 PM

I wanted to buy 2 of these and sell one to make my money back but if Nintendo is stepping up production I am not sure what I will do :(

ClockShot 09-26-2017 09:32 PM

If anyone is still tracking one down, call your local Gamestop. My local store called me up yesterday and said they'll have a few extra coming to them on launch day going on a first come first serve basis.

Big Vic 09-27-2017 04:14 PM

Gonna try Wal Mart launch day. And possibly Toys R Us if they don't have it.

ClockShot 09-28-2017 08:11 PM

Got my shipping confirmation! Should be home when I get out of work tomorrow afternoon!

To all of you going hunting tomorrow, I wish you the best of luck.

Savio 09-29-2017 12:06 AM

Gonna try to snag 2 of these shits from walmart now.

Not a lot of games, but those are some of the best games.

Ruien 09-29-2017 12:15 PM

Best Buy has like 100 extra. I was just buying a printer but they had like 2 pallets filled. Still didn't buy one but you should be fine if you did not pre order.

Savio 09-29-2017 12:24 PM

I bought 2 trying to sell atleast one

Destor 09-29-2017 01:11 PM

you dick

Savio 09-29-2017 01:53 PM

So many people on Ebay trying to sell em for $180

Ruien 09-29-2017 03:17 PM

Well, we already knew Savio was a piece of shit so this is not suprising.

Savio 09-29-2017 03:27 PM

Really not sure what your beef with me for the past year has been.

Destor 09-29-2017 03:30 PM

LETS HASH THIS OUT

Don't think I have a beef with you?

I was just joking. I know they've filed Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, which means they can, and most likely will, in some way, shape and/or form, emerge from it. How successful they'll be is up to them, but I digress.

Anyway, also:

Savio 09-29-2017 09:44 PM

Just sold one for $120.

ClockShot 10-02-2017 08:24 PM

Man. whoever's genius idea it was to put the suspended play feature in this should get a huge raise.

No more jotting down codes for Mega Man X.

Feel like I should have waited, prices seem to be going up a lot more now on ebay. But the couple I sold it to seemed very nice, so I am glad they got one.

#BROKEN Hasney 10-11-2017 05:00 AM

Hacked mine to make it a SNES arcade perfect port machine
