That pic I used for HBM looks photoshopped somehow...

Also...my vacation was short lived

Destor 10-11-2017 01:52 PM

Hogan drew waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more money. Easy vote.

Sixx 10-11-2017 01:54 PM

Tough one. Used to love Hogan as a kid, he pretty much got me into wrestling. I watched every single one of his shitty movies as well as his dumbass TV show Thunder in Paradise. But his stupid comebacks ruined his legacy for me. I really don't enjoy watching a tanning bed-atticted pensioner wrestle.

I mentioned before, I'm not really a fan of HBK's late stuff, but it still was beter than Hogan's. Love mid-90s HBK, good cocky heel. And I love the theme. HBK it is.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 01:58 PM

Going with personal taste and connection. Wpuld watch HBK perform before Hogan any day of the week.

Frank Drebin 10-11-2017 02:08 PM

Feel like HBK gonna win this easy. About the only argument you can make for Hogan is that he drew more and that he was a crossover icon. HBK owns pretty much everything else. Feel like people will vote for "everything else"

Way bigger star in every meaningful way. If they're being subjective the choice is easy. If this is "who I like best" then it will also be easy.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 02:15 PM

Take your shitty reasons rep and shove it lmfao

Also... Hogan is largely responsible for tanking wcw.

HBM nearly tanked the WWF in the mid 90s. Two way street.

Except wwe didnt tank.

yeah, as soon as he went on the shelf it bounced back

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 02:32 PM

Ome could argue his heel turn before he hit the shelf (along with Bret's) laid the foundation to wwf taking over. Its not like the ratings magically started to get better. It was consistently solid main event storylines.

Destor 10-11-2017 02:34 PM

One could argue anythign they want

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 02:40 PM

Lol well one could reasonably argue that point. Bret helped Austin big time and Michaels helped establish the edgier product that would help them win the war.

Michaels killed some momentum in his day but when it came time to do business with Steve, he jobbed (rumours of threatened asskickings aside). When it came time for Hogan to job to Sting he fucked the whole thing up. I know your whole deal about sting not being in shape. But realistically the match should.have beem 10 minutes of gaga with Sting not taking off his coat, pwning nwo members with his bat and a brief scuffle with Hogan, Scorpion death drop and cash your millions at the door. Believe me, nobody was happier than Hogan when he saw a soft Sting and had his built in excuse to fuck the finish of their most important ppv to date.

Destor 10-11-2017 02:42 PM

Of course Michaels has a place in wrestling history, but he gets a chapter. Hogan gets his own book.

Maluco 10-11-2017 03:26 PM

Even as a child, I was more into Macho Man than I was Hogan, but that doesn't discount for the millions that were into Hogan and how big a star he was. His look is iconic and his charisma off the charts

His matches, however, were extremely formulaic and he continued having them long after they were successful. His peak was incredible from a popularity standpoint however.

HBK on the other hand, is light years removed from Hogan in the ring. His matches were exciting, dramatic and fueled with emotion. Watching him was my very favourite time to be a wrestling fan.

With that said, I can't go against him cause HBK symbolises everything I love about wrestling and why I can't really get into it in 2017.

He is the best of all time for me

Anybody Thrilla 10-11-2017 03:50 PM

If it were called better draw, then it would definitely be Hogan, but since it's better wrestler, and I'm a fan of wrestling, I voted HBK. I can't remember a Shawn Michaels match that I didn't enjoy, and I can't remember a Hulk Hogan one that I did that didn't have Shawn Michaels in it. Even that was for all the wrong reasons.

Destor 10-11-2017 03:53 PM

Wrestling is a business. It takes places while shooting commercials as it does while putting in your 20 min. You know you're a good wrestler when poeple pay to see you.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 03:57 PM

That is fair but we all like HBK better and would rather watch him. If this was for mainstream fans who watched before 1989 hogan would win in a landslide.

But this is for niche fans who grew up on HBK and while respecting Hogan for his abilities and drawing power arent die hard fans of his.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 03:58 PM

But i totally see your argument.

Anybody Thrilla 10-11-2017 04:04 PM

I didn't even like Hogan that much as a kid. I mean, I wasn't rooting for Earthquake or anything, but I was definitely rooting for the Ultimate Warrior, if that makes sense.

Anybody Thrilla 10-11-2017 04:04 PM

HBK was great to me from the Rockers to retirement.

Destor 10-11-2017 04:04 PM

My arguemnt is simply if you're being objective its a no brainer. I prefer Michaels work. But better at the job? Hogan. In their prime I would rather hire Hogan. No question.

Anybody Thrilla 10-11-2017 04:07 PM

But since we have set no parameters for what defines "wrestler" to this game, it's all open to interpretation. If we want to run stats/skills whatever and come up with some algorithm, then I guess we could split hairs, but then we wouldn't need anyone to vote.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 04:07 PM

Maybe. Depends on the environment where his act would grow stale much faster as it did in wcw. Sure he had a helacious 1996 and 97 but could not sustain the success because his act grew stale.

Yeah you can use any illogical paramaters you want, of course.

Rammsteinmad 10-11-2017 04:10 PM

Michaels all the way. Was never really a fan of Hogan when I was a ten year-old mark, and growing up and reading all the stories and knowing what Hogan was like certainly hasn't endeared him to me.

You know, he probably WAS responsible for what they said the Hart Foundation did to the NOD's locker room.

But I also said that being racist probably makes you a better wrestler, somehow.

THIS POST BROUGHT TO YOU BY DOK HENDRIX

Sixx 10-11-2017 04:14 PM

HBK is basically Ted Nugent of wrestling.

I don't even care about Hogan being racist, the worse thing was his explanation. Dude spoke about this like he was from the hood and shit. Old-ass white guy saying bollocks like that is just retarded.

Mr. Nerfect 10-11-2017 05:41 PM

Knew this was going to be the HOF round match. Voted for Hogan because star power is the #1 goal and Hogan is that guy.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 06:16 PM

Yeah i kind of like swiss's analogy. Hogan is transformers, Michaels is Spotlight. Transformers drew more at the box office but i will watch Spotlight a million fucking times before Transformers.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 06:18 PM

Main point is are you going to tell me Transformers is a better movie than Spotlight?

Destor 10-11-2017 06:18 PM

Technically Hogan would be Avatar

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 06:21 PM

Not a ringing endorsement

Anybody Thrilla 10-11-2017 06:22 PM

That's how much he's worth, though.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 06:24 PM

Yep. And other movies that drew less were better movies. Other wrestlers who drew less were better wrestlers.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 06:26 PM

You coullllld go as far to call Hogan the Marvel franchise to be a little more fair to his far reaching success
.. Or Star Wars. Then the parallels get interesting.

Destor 10-11-2017 06:31 PM

Analogy is bad though. Paying customers paid to see hogan for 25 years. Thats what good wrestlers do, they convince you theyre worth your money.

I love Chris Benoits work. Could watch him forever. He isnt better than john cena, cena convinced more people that he was worth money. Thats the business.

Michaels convinced you, and you voted for him based off that...thay means youre getting worked even now.

Hogan was better, he worked more people...he just hasnt aged well. I can say that...because its an objective opinion...ive never seen a hogan match i liked post...88...ish. lesnar killing him was great.

He's still easily better than the much more entertaining HBM.

But we will have the WHATS A RASSLER argument for 10 pages...every 3 days ornso...

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 06:35 PM

Im familiar with the drawing power argument. It holds weight but not enough for me to say Hogan is better than Michaels.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 06:36 PM

Hogan was really good before 88 though. Was pretty damn mobile for a big lug.

Sixx 10-11-2017 06:39 PM

Back when he used the lariat as his finisher.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 06:42 PM

That was mostly in japan i believe

Sixx 10-11-2017 06:45 PM

Yeah. But that move looked way better than his shitty leg drop.

Emperor Smeat 10-11-2017 06:59 PM

Tough choice but gave the slight nod to HBK.

Give HBK the nod in terms of in-ring skills and Hogan the nod in terms of promo skills and character/gimmick. Hogan was the bigger star in terms of drawing power but felt HBK's career longevity was better albeit with the years long break.

Both did some damage to their respective companies although HBK's damage to the WWF was fixable compared to Hogan playing a major role in WCW's demise and Impact's damaging downward spiral.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 07:01 PM

Also HBK vs Hogan is not the same as Cena vs Benoit

Benoit's weaknesses are way too glaring as much as I love him in ring. HBK brought much more to the table.

Destor 10-11-2017 07:03 PM

Nah, in ring is then only place HBM put shines hogan so the comparison is perfect.

Destor 10-11-2017 07:04 PM

Every other measurable Cena trumps Benoit and the answer would be clear to anyone being objective....should be the same here

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 07:06 PM

Michaels was still good on the mic and had the character element nailed. not as good as Hogan but still good.

of course, but since hes not as good those aspects dont matter, the winner is hogan. So HBM is winning because his matches were a billion times better...hence benoit v cena makes perfect sense.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 07:13 PM

Well Cena is still a pretty damned good worker. Not a technician a la Benoit but unlike Hogan (circa 1988 and beyond) he actually tries in the ring and has good matches.

Ol Dirty Dastard 10-11-2017 07:14 PM

I like Benoit better than Cena but I'd vote Cena over Benoit.

IMO Michaels is an all time great and while Hogan drew more, HBK IS THE SHOWSTOPPA

Sixx 10-11-2017 07:14 PM

Hogan's big boot is the laziest big boot I've seen.

Maluco 10-11-2017 07:15 PM

I dunno about that logic. I don't think it's wise to go trait to trait. You have to look at the whole performer. HBK was entertaining as an all round personality too and had a cool gimmick and character. He was charismatic (just look at his entrance)

He was a fantastic package in his own rite. Just cause Hogan was more over and has more charisma, doesn't take away from what HBK was.

His charisma doesn't go to zero, just because Hogan had more.

I don't. I'm not about to go back and watch Hogan/Andre, but I might fucks with more than a few Cena matches. Punk/Michaels/Umaga/Styles...just to name a few that just popped into my head.

Basically this argument is the same as before though. Better draw versus better wrestler. I voted for the wrestler.

It has to be subjective. "Who drew more" is objective. If that's how you're supposed to judge these things then the whole idea of Better Wrestler is retarded since there's a definitive right and wrong. There's WAY too many factors that go into someone drawing to use it as the gauge of how good the wrestler himself is. You've gotta say to yourself "If all conditions around both men are the exact same and put them on equal footing, who do I think would excel more."

In this case it's probably still Hogan. But fuck it. Glad HBK is somehow leading this thing because he is the Goddamn man.

Destor 10-11-2017 09:22 PM

When the gap is this wide its its hard to make an objective case for michaels. No one has yet

But i agree with your point. Hogan is the longest sustainable draw of all time, but in my mind he isn the goat. Why? Because draw is but one, albeit massive, metric but it isnt EVERYTHING.

But if we're talking draw, workrate, promos, legacy etc etc etc hogan isnt going to trail anythig but matches. And we have 3 pages of people saying "well i liked him more." Which is fine, its just that isnt objective.

And yeah, same time, same screen time, both in their prime. Hogan is better. Hell an over the hill Hogan had more viewers than an in his prime michaels did. These guys did gp head to head every monday after all.

Viewers though? That's draw again. Michaels is more fun to watch for me. And that's all wrestling is to me. Fun. Not gates and buys or whatever the fuck.

This is how I vote as well. I don't always give a reason for my vote because sometimes I feel it's an easy match up. Didn't see a lot of Micheals growing up but Hogan and the NWO was my during my childhood and I watched more WCW. Hate Hogan for what he did to TNA but as far as wrestling goes I had to go with Hogan. Being able to go back and watch stuff on the Network is great though and Hogan still comes out on top as he was a much bigger star for a much longer time.
