It really is horribly contrived, even for WWE.

What you're missing is the depth in the Jinder character. He is one who desires accolades to bring home to prove his worth. So if there is a list with numerical order best to worst, he desires to be on that list, and if possible higher than his fellow superstars.

But, like, he never even brought up the fact he wasn't even on the list.

It was always "Randy Orton thinks he's better than you, Bobby!"
