A Star Is Born (2018)

This actually looks pretty good

It'll take a lot for Gaga to out do Judy Garlands performance but I'll def go see it.

I'm fucking pumped for this movie, truth be told.

Destor 09-30-2018 01:42 PM

Same. Super hyped

Damian Rey 2.0 09-30-2018 02:15 PM

As a man desperately seeking love, I'm a sucker for love stories even tho I think this'll be tragic

Destor 09-30-2018 02:34 PM

I live for showtunes...

Frank Drebin 09-30-2018 03:09 PM

Only Republicans who love military spending love showtunes.

Frank Drebin 09-30-2018 03:09 PM

And lady Gaga

Destor 09-30-2018 03:19 PM

I feel like that might be the most factually inaccurate post in tpww history

Fignuts 09-30-2018 04:09 PM

Not enough explosions and split kicks.

OssMan 09-30-2018 06:31 PM

This looks dreadful

Seanny One Ball 10-01-2018 01:14 PM

I was just about to say that. It looks like hokey bullshit and I'm sick of seeing Bradley Cooper in films that don't kick ass.

Damian Rey 2.0 10-01-2018 01:23 PM

You guys are crazy. This movie looks great.

Last thing im worried about is how someone else feels about the art i like

Watch what you like. Hate what you hate

The correct attitude is to connect something you dislike to somebody you dislike and argue against it as if it's their ugly baby.

Damian Rey 2.0 10-01-2018 08:30 PM

I like you, Destor. You're a wise man who doesn't mince words.

Great. Where's Simple Fan and his love for the DCEU

Droford 10-01-2018 08:38 PM

I've seen the trailers enough to want to see it even if I figure I at best will find it ok

RP 10-01-2018 08:45 PM

SPOILER: show
This is the 3rd time this movie has happened. Jack dies at the end. Every fucking time.

ClockShot 10-01-2018 08:55 PM

Must be running out of ideas in Hollywood if this got remade, again.

Judy Garland and James Mason were fine the first time.

Kris Kristofferson and Barbara Streisand were great the 2nd.

Is the third time supposed to be a charm?

Lock Jaw 10-01-2018 08:57 PM

I have never heard of this movie before, and it is the second remake?

RP 10-01-2018 09:14 PM

The 3rd remake.

Lock Jaw 10-01-2018 09:21 PM

Definitely seems excessive.....

Destor 10-01-2018 09:51 PM

It was great both times prior. 3rd looks to be no exception

Fignuts 10-03-2018 09:44 PM

Actually this is the fourth remake.

Destor 10-03-2018 10:21 PM

Trchnically yes, absolutely true. 1937 film wasnt a musical however. The 76 and 2018 version are remakes of the 54s musical rewrite and not the original. The film from 37 deserves credit though thats fair.

Still its Garland's performance that is the definitive version in my mind.

Damian Rey 2.0 10-04-2018 08:58 PM

Haven't seen the previous takes. Thought this was completely original until I read up on it.

Destor 10-04-2018 09:55 PM

People want remake to be a dirty word. I dunno. I like theater though and in theater you see different tropes take on old plays all the time. Its exciting to see their take on the story. One will end of beung better but it doesnt invalidate the others as a rule there's still loads to be enjoyed about new performances. Especially true for musical theater.

To that end i really want a theatrical remake of west side story...film could be very topical with some minor tweaks

Fignuts 10-04-2018 10:27 PM

I don't mind remakes at all, as long as they're.

Frank Drebin 10-04-2018 11:36 PM

Lady Gaga can be really pretty when she wants to be.

Damian Rey 2.0 10-05-2018 03:58 AM

She looks incredibly endearing in this movie based on the trailers.

Destor 10-05-2018 09:14 PM

This was wonderful

Might write something up later but cooper has a lot of legs behind the camera and Gagas performance is really great. Their on screen chemistry is really exceptional.

Frank Drebin 10-05-2018 10:08 PM

HOW WAS THE SINGING??

Gaga is as good as Streisand ever was with what looks like ease. If she makes a career out of musicals im on board.

Cooper is serviceable but not memorable but it doesnt bog down any of the duets. His performance is the best anyone has done withthe role however if you look past the musical numbers.

Also theres some nudity for the guys gaga for Gaga.

Destor 10-05-2018 10:29 PM

Ftr cooper isnt bad he just is substantially outclassed

Frank Drebin 10-06-2018 12:17 AM

HAPPY 43,000 POSTS, SINGING DESTOR!!!

Damian Rey 2.0 10-06-2018 12:46 PM

Gaga boobs, a rugged Bradley Cooper, and good songs? I'm in.

Fignuts 10-07-2018 02:59 AM

Does Tony Jaa light his leg on fire and knee someone in the face?

Tom Guycott 10-07-2018 03:11 AM

My question is how successful the smear campaign against Venom was.

You know, since both movies have exactly the same audience, and seeing one or the other on opening weekend is a zero sum game.

Wut

Lock Jaw 10-07-2018 01:50 PM

I think he is being sarcastic, folks.

Destor 10-07-2018 04:29 PM

The post still makes no sense regardless or sarasm

Lock Jaw 10-07-2018 04:33 PM

There was some "news" that a lot of Gaga fans were taking to twitter and putting down Venom before it came out to try and make this movie do better. That is probably what he is referring to.

Destor 10-07-2018 06:12 PM

Lol that movie didnt need bad hype but i believe they did it regarless

Droford 10-12-2018 04:12 AM

https://www.vox.com/platform/amp/cul...iticism-sexism

They have to go and try and ruin everything

"Every time she says no some man forces her to say yes" (the gist of the review not word for word) even right down to "she wants to go to bed but dear old dad won't let her"

Destor 10-12-2018 10:41 AM

Thats the point. They're mad about the point.

Damian Rey 2.0 10-12-2018 07:44 PM

Personally loved the shit outta this movie. Prob gonna try to see it again at some point. The very end does a quick cut to end the film and it is gut wrenching.

RP 10-12-2018 10:23 PM

Me Too is becoming like PETA.

RP 12-25-2018 11:17 PM

So... Even though i know the story. I actually own 2 older iterations of this story.

I just watched this movie. It's one of the best damn movies i've seen all year. Bradley Cooper is incredible. He almost gives a Jeff Bridges type performance. Lady Gaga is .... damn she's good. I really dont know what to make of Lady Gaga anymore. I just know that she was amazing in this movie. Especially when she's stripped of the makeup.

This movie has been done several times, but i'm not sure it's ever been executed as well as this one.

It should win a lot of awards.

Yes. I apologize for not using the [/sarcasm] tag afterwards to clarify. But that was a thing that was happening; instead of word of mouth "hey, this is good, you should go see it" on social media, there was twisted logic at play where Gaga fans were actively review bombing Venom and giving anecdotal stories about taking their kids to see Venom and walking out halfway through and "suggesting" they see a wholesome movie like "A Star iI Born" instead.

I dont know what you're talking about right now. Elaborate please.

Ruien 12-26-2018 09:16 AM

Venom and A Star is Born were released on the same day. Lady Gaga fans wrote fake negative reviews about Venom so more people would go see A Star is Born.

Venom still crushed A Star is Born.

Lock Jaw 12-26-2018 09:54 AM

Venom has done scary well for a movie so critically panned..... have one friend who said he literally walked out of the movie, which he says he has never done in his life before.

Ruien 12-26-2018 10:01 AM

It wasnt the best movie in the world but the main guy and the voice actor for Venom were on 9oint and made the movie really fun.

slik 12-26-2018 10:13 AM

I thought Venom was really fun and I liked it.

I haven't seen A Star Is Born yet. I like Lady Gaga, so I will at some point.
