Is Johnny Gargano overrated?
He is likable and has a nice butt -- however -- he only has one facial expression (concussed) and announcers push him as 'a nice guy' constantly like they would Roman Reigns/John Cena...
Still like him but not his booking...what do u think, is he overrated?? |
Lol 5"10, 199 pounds. Get the fuck outta here vanilla midget.
Yas Legend Gertner wastes no time in laying the Gertdown!
I feel like he is one "Johnny Gargano did it for the WWE Universe" on commentary away in booking r/n
as a straight man, I appreciate a well-sculpted man-ass to jack off to.
Keith Lee definitely looks like the dad from a 90's sitcom. It's endearing. Makes me wanna see him win and then sit down with some of the little guys on the roster for a life lesson. Great babyface look.
Keith Lee is tremendous.
saw one of his Matt Riddle matches. V good (re: Keith Lee)

Don't feel like thinking r/n, going to have w/e opinions Gertner tells me to |
Wait wait hold on a second..... that Keith Lee guy they showed is an active rassler? I legit thought he was some middle aged TV dad/D-list celebrity that I had no idea who they were......
he's actually quite a bruiser.
Gertner repped me just now and said 'post porn on owen's wall'
I can't do that @BN_Gert...owen is my friend! |
He repped me again "JUST DO IT LOLOLOL"
Gertner is so bad sometimes!! |

I'm a rascal.

I think Johnny Gargano is overrated, but that he's objectively very, very good. He's adorable. I liked him better when he was in the team with Ciampa. I don't buy him as a bad-ass. On his own he's got those "Ultimate Underdog" vibes and not in a good way. He's like a more conventionally cuddly, perpetually concussed Daniel Bryan. Or Rey Mysterio without the mask and confirmed Hispanic background.
I want to be optimistic about Keith Lee. He came off as legitimately comfortable and charismatic in that NXT cameo. I worry that when he goes main roster he will be treated just like every other black wrestler they get -- angry black man as a heel; big white smile as a babyface.
He and Ciampa had the rare 'non-embarrassing' WWE shirt

I also hate Raw. I did want to point that out too. It was a hard choice between that and "Yes."
I have a weird amount of interest in seeing The Miz vs. Johnny Gargano. I don't know what it is about that match, but it actually appeals to me. That's just weird because I'm not a big Miz fan. It would probably be very similar in tone to the Miz/Bryan stuff, but Bryan should be so far above Miz at this point.
He's alright, but if I could only hire one, I'd take Ciampa all-day, everyday
I dont know if you can call him overrated, because he isnt getting a major push, and nobody is saying he is the best.
He is a capable technician that has that whole underdog thing going, but its not like he is pegged to main event Mania. |

And hell, I had him in mind as one of my favorite babyfaces at the end of 2016. I absolutely loved him against The Revival as the "weak link" with something to prove. |
Wasn't as good as when Daniel Bryan was the "weak link" in Team Hell No with something to prove
Daniel Bryan had so much fire then. Something about him feels a lot more organic too. Gargano seems genuinely likable, but with Bryan it felt like you were on a journey with him. Gargano feels like they're making a big song and dance about that potential.
I think one of the things that hurts Gargano is how much he comes across as 'Daniel Bryan' lite. We already have Daniel Bryan and he's great. Gargano was best, character-wise, as Tomasso's well-meaning but sort of clueless tag partner.
They had a good dynamic as a team. They have very different feels to them, but both feel plucky.
a lot of these truth bombs not going to be popular
Also fucking annoying his wife keeps wishing him well before big matches
It's annoying enough when the Bellas do it, I don't need Candace to do it as well |
Honestly I compare Gargano more to NXT Sami Zayn than I do Daniel Bryan.......
Depressed now thinking about Lashley squashing Sami at MITB
I'd say no although his spot in NXT is pretty much his peak in terms of star power status.
Don't really see him going beyond midcarder on the main roster especially if he's on RAW. Then again think him and Ciampa were never meant to stick around as long as they have since both were just on loan from EVOLVE at the time to help make a few stars for NXT. |

Heck, even Roddy Strong got the whole multiple segments backstory.
He's top 5 in the world. That company is with Okada, Omega, Naito and Styles.
He is absolutely fantastic in the role he is in at the moment. Sells the story between him and Ciampa perfectly and just someone who seems to get beaten up incredibly well. His matches have been incredible and while perhaps not world class on the mic, is by no means poor there either.
My only concern is whether there is enough mileage in his current character of lovable underdog and how well he'd be able to transition to something else. Couldn't imagine him heel or doing much differently. But could be wrong on that, maybe he'd be excellent there as well. Also, I hate RAW. |
I assume the people who voted for something else just didn't know that they could ALSO vote "I hate RAW"?
No.
Most people see him as a very talented wrestler. His numerous moty candidates legitimize this praise. He's the focal point of nxt, because A.) More than anything nxt is about great wrestling matches, and as stated above that's something he does very well. And B.) He's arguably the most over guy in nxt, with alleister black being the only challenger. Though black isn't involved with the best and most emotionally charged feud in nxt history. Come back and ask this when the majority is clamoring for him to be WWE champion. As of right now, he's everything people say he is. |
The thing that'll hold him back is the fact that he works best as an underdog face. In the fanbase of 2018, good guy wrestlers are already the redheaded stepchildren of the roster - you're not "cool" if you cheer the heroes, you're cool if you cheer the smug smarkfriendly douchebags.
Long story short - Gargano could go to some theatre classes to improve his facials + carb load himself 20lbs heavier (the 2 things keeping him from Breakout Star status IMO), and he'd still be considered below Ciampa by 95% of the IWC just because he's a babyface and everybody knows babyfaces totally suck. |

That's my biggest problem with WWE - if someone does something well once, they think they are like this ultimate craftsmen expert in that one thing, and it's what they do all the time. I WANT him to do well, and he has the tools to flourish, but when you're the face fighting from the bottom--the WWE doesn't know what to do w/you. |
All true. Doesn't mean he's overrated.
So there seems to be a consensus on his talent level, but just disagreement as to whether or not people rate him that highly. Would you agree that if he was considered a top guy that it would be overrating him?
I can see him going to 205 Live more than ever now. For a while I thought it was ludicrous because he was too good, but since it's now a Triple H show and the fanbase perceives it as having "great matches," and Gargano's gimmick seems to be "little guy that puts together these weird epics for main events," I can see him heading there and being "the guy." |
