Imagine if they put Bryan's "career" on the line, he loses due to bullshit, runs around the indies for a few months, and then shows up in the Road to Wrestlemania to cost Miz some tremendous opportunity to set up a match at Mania where if Bryan wins, he gets to come back to WWE or something.

Instead, I'm fully expecting them to have a 10 minute match and then have six rematches in 7 weeks after Summerslam.

Vince would still set the overall direction for the company. He probably understands that content is probably the least important part of their business model now though. Unless you are specifically marketing your content then it's more about the vehicles you are using to get it out there. Vince can literally make the worst wrestler on his roster the WWE Champion and nothing changes. I doubt he's really concerned as to whether or not Bobby Roode is a better face or a heel. I'm sure there are a special interests he has (Roman Reigns, Ronda Rousey, Brock Lesnar, etc.), but for the most part, the WWE is a machine that just keeps rolling.

It was always a possibility, but given that it is SummerSlam it doesn't really matter what they do with it, even in their own mind. Dean Ambrose vs. Dolph Ziggler was the WWE Title match two years ago. Plus, with the real story being Ronda, it wouldn't have surprised me if they gave the SD one to Becky because they don't mind her being upstaged.
