Christopher Lambert as Raiden in MK was a bit mental but Wes Studi and Raul Julia as Sagat and M. Bison were excellent pieces of casting. I could watch Street Fighter right now quite happily. |
Using a Belgian to play the All American is the sole strike that Street Fighter the movie has against it in my mind.
You could probably just tell kids that Guile was from Louisiana if they asked though. |
Mortal Kombat, despite the abysmal sequel 2yrs later, is never credited for lighting the spark that eventually led to the martial arts resurgence in Hollywood (which made for a transition the very next year in 1996 with New Line's Jackie Chan showcase Rumble in the Bronx). MK also introduced the world to how well karate and techno music mixes together. The fights are still amazing and I very gladly call it one of the best 90s martial arts movies period.
People who cite MK1 as an example of terrible game adaptations makes me wonder if they watched the damn thing. |

I love Street Fighter! That film is a guilty pleasure, and not in the so-bad-it's-hilarious way. Although it is that, too. But I just genuinely love it.
Ditto for the first Mortal Kombat. And the soundtrack to Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is incredible. |

Loved the Street Fighter film , poor Raul Julia dying making the film though. Always remember as a kid trying to see where they had used CGI to put him in, think it’s the end fight scene.

A stuntman obviously did all the fights but Raul got to do a few reaction bumps at the end. Otherwise it's all him in his scene stealing glory.

You know there are certain shots in this trailer where Sonic doesn't look that bad like when he's making a face at whoever that guy is while he's talking to him in the car and when he's looking up at Doctor Eggman nee Robotnik while surrounded by drones. Basically when he's looking angry he looks fine it's when he tries to be funny and shows his human teeth that it all goes to hell

Like the inverse of the Detective Pikachu trailers in regards to not getting live-action right and should have just stuck to being an animated film instead. |

I tried to figure out what put me off about Sonic's design and then I figured it out they made him way too humanoid they should have exaggerated the proportions where they are normally exaggerated his hands and feet

Just make him look like the Photoshop done above that looks just like the fucking game. It's not that hard. Part of the detective Pikachu charm is that the Pokemon look just fucking like the anime, except 3d. They don't need to try and redesign/humanize sonic the hedgehog.

It works out great for the makers of this movie because the amount of publicity it has received paired with the delay due to the fixture of the title character, will probably elicit even more ticket sales than it originally would have. Kinda brilliant, intentionally or not.

The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise in North America hasn't been relevant since this televised version of it aired on ABC from Sept. 18, 1993 to June 3, 1995. I have no reason to believe that this movie will change that. If it does, it'll be a fucking miracle. And I know what I'm talking about on this shit. = P |
