This is the hill he's going to die on? That shirt? I'd immediately be firing him if I was Vince/HHH. Everything isn't about fucking race. It's a shit shirt.
|
Id also give him the entire stock of those shirts as part of his severance.
|
They had to make up for giving him one if the whitest names possible.
|
I don't know about anybody else, but me that looks like an open mouth with the teeth being the letters, not his name on big red lips.
Granted, if it can be taken either way, then somebody should have caught that, but I cant say it doesn't look like a smile to me. |
That is fucking hilarious.
|
He retweeted this also, about WWE making him "another black wrestler who just loves to 'Have a good time & entertain.'"

I was fortunate to work at a gym where @GoGoMyles was a member. Lol that shirt is something else
|
I don't see it myself. It doesn't look like lips or teeth at all.
I honestly spent a minute wondering if it was because it's a black shirt. |
Also Myles Jordan is a way better name than Jordan Myles.
It just sounds better. |
|
I think the guy is reaching here
|
Seriously, if those are his teeth smiling, how could the red be his lips? Teeth don't grow in the outside
Sounds more like someone from AEW told him to get fired |
Multiple black members of the roster have shared the tweet and expressed disgust over the shirt.

This kind of drama is exactly why I am watching DBW, no drama just action! |
I'm not seeing how people cant see the blatant racism here.
Here's a key question. Are they selling the shirt in white? |
I don't think we should be telling a person of color how to feel about a shirt he clearly sees as offensive.
|
I would have never guessed/noticed/assumed the "racist" part of the shirt.... at first thought he was upset just because his shirt was so plain and bland.
|
On its own, the shirt looks bad and par for the course for most of WWE's shirt designs.
Between going with that color combo and design and giving Myles the stereotypical happy black guy wrestler gimmick, WWE left themselves wide open for the black face criticisms to happen. |
That's incredibly insensitive.
|
Lol, it’s pretty bad no one caught that. WWE will and should apologize to Jordan and change the shirt. I expect to see him on TV very soon too.
And yeah, Myles Jordan is a much better name than Jordan Myles. |
This got me thinking: when was the last time two black wrestlers feuded with each other? Was it Shad and JTG? Maybe The New Day and D-Von or The Prime Time Players? There were feuds there, right?
|
Quote:
I still don't see it though. |
I would say that having a problem with that shirt in a company as racially offensive as WWE is kind of like getting offended at the decor in a porn film.
|
I doubt that the graphic designer or whoever did that on purpose, but I immediately thought "oh no..." upon seeing the pic before reading his tweet
|
I'm guessing it's harder for non Americans to see it because racism towards black people isn't nearly as engrained in our culture and history.
I just don't see it. |
Quote:
Those festivals don't generate the same tone there because of cultural and origin differences although more people there have become aware in recent years of how those festivals can be seen as being racist. |
Quote:
I still don't see how the smiling teeth means the red background is the stereotypical racist lips, it's clearly the inside of the mouth if the letters are meant to be teeth. If people are offended, then it is offensive. What I don't think is it being blatantly offensive, as in by design, but just a case of something not being thought out very well. |

WWE released a statement basically blaming Myles and saying that talent have input and significant creative say in their shirt designs.
Myles has already called bullshit on that. Lol this company is a mess. |
Even if you want to just take WWE’s side “it’s just a smile for a dude that smiles a lot, what’s the big deal?”
They’ve had an alarming number of black wrestlers whose sole gimmick is just “smiley black guy” with little to no character development beyond that. Shit that’s been the entirety of Apollo Crews’ three and a half year main roster run. |
Quote:
To counterbalance all the "I don't see it" folks, the Al Jolson-looking derogatory imagery is the first thing I noticed. This is one of those things that could have been completely avoided if they just ran it by him or somebody with some sense first instead of "here's your merch". This looks like something out of Bamboozled, and that was a satirical movie. If I had any faith that WWE had any sort of self-awareness or quality writing, I would figure this was the beginning of a gimmick, angle, and push for the guy trying to buck the "this is all you are" trend. But, of course this is legit. Of course they're that tone deaf. Just of fucking course. |

What I’d like you know is what is it about Jordan Myles that invokes anything at all to do with The Rolling Stones that would inspire his merch in the first place?
Does someone backstage call him Brown Sugar behind his back or something? |
Wonder how many of those sold, cause as already pointed out - this t-shirt just sucks ass.

Pretty shitty if he told them specifically why he didn't like the shirt and they went along with it anyway.

He is trying to get fired AND set up his first fued back in ROH clearly.
Also it doesn't sound like WWE ever even released this shirt, just showed him a design. If they changed it before releasing it after he objected, sigh I don't know at all with this. I didn't see it as offensive initially, but I also don't have the same perspective on it. To me it seems like he was upset prior to the shirt, and this just opened the floodgates. Why else would he be bringing up past issues with Lethal and ROH. |

|
Booker T commented on this, and he alluded to all the points that crossed my mind.
It still feels more like Myles is taking this opportunity to bring up every slight and grudge he has ever had, or he is purposefully trying to get fired. He hasn't been used, and if reports of NXT guys not getting raises is true, I can't blame him for wanting out. It's a bold way to go about it though. |
The thing is, WWE are in a tight spot if he does want out, because it sets the precedent on how to get out of your contract: make a PR nightmare for them. It’s in WWE’s best interest for Myles to turn around and be a good soldier and give the world a thumbs up.

they need to air this mess on tv. i'd watch a segment with him and Vince and Hunter talking about t-shirts

I'm too lazy to look it up but if the shirt only comes in black, then its a valid point that the design was in poor taste, but probably unintentional. If the shirt is available in different colors, then I dont think he has much of a point as it wasnt specifically designed on a black background.
And honestly, it's not like WWE has any track records of bad taste decisions with black wrestlers... https://static2.thesportsterimages.c...&h=415&dpr=1.5 https://static3.thesportsterimages.c...&h=415&dpr=1.5 https://static3.thesportsterimages.c...&h=514&dpr=1.5 https://static3.thesportsterimages.c...&h=414&dpr=1.5 https://www.tvovermind.com/wp-conten...wf-640x467.png |
How is Mark Henry somehow the most fucked up gimmick there
|
But least racist.
|
I think he is overall the most offensive in every way. Least stereotypically racist, still definitely racist...
|
Quote:
Mark Henry is a bad stereotype that also happens to be into sexual relations with geriatrics. It would be bad even if it was a white guy, but that makes it worse, especially since they called him chocolate. Saba Simba is an "african warrior", offensive because you had to give it to a black guy, but not as bad because there are/were people in Africa who dressed like that. Not sure, not an expert on cultures. Kamala is a man eater from Africa. Again, a stereotype, but thats just one thing wrong. If he was a man eater who only ate women, that would put him on equal footing with Mark Henry. Cryme Tyme is two black dudes immediately labeled as "criminal" which fits into another racist stereotype, however, thats again only one hit against them. So, all four give the bad stereotype/racism concept, but Henry amplifies it with a bad sexual innuendo/creepy behavior. |
Quote:
|
You all know Kamala had his gimmick before he ever went to WWE right?
Or that Mark Henry has said sexual chocolate was his idea. Yes it's nitpicking, but also unfair to use that as an argument to support this narrative. |
