DISCUSSION - 2020 - Who is the best male wrestler in the world?

Is it Okada? Omega? Ospreay? Lesnar? Jericho? PAC?

Let your voice be heard!

Sepholio 02-01-2020 10:12 PM

PAC by a mile.

slik 02-01-2020 10:15 PM

Brock

Mr. Nerfect 02-01-2020 10:16 PM

I think it’s really between Brock, Bryan and Okada for me.

slik 02-01-2020 10:17 PM

@Noid

Same tbh

Mr. Nerfect 02-01-2020 10:19 PM

I wish they’d use Bryan “better.” It’s nice he just wants to do his thing and be around, but he could really elevate guys by working with them.

Sepholio 02-01-2020 10:21 PM

Why does everyone have such a hard on for the guy that does 3 (4 if you include strikes) moves, only works once every 3-4 months, and gets gassed on his way to the ring :/

I used to preach the word of Lesnar but man the routine is old af now and his matches are boring as fuck and basically all the exact same. 10 german suplexes, opponent magically gets in some offense by attacking brocks leg for a couple minutes, 5 more German suplexes, F-5, F-5, pin. Every now and then they change it up and throw a kimura in there. That's it. The only good thing about Brock is Heyman.

slik 02-01-2020 10:24 PM

No one could have done what he did with the RR this year.

Brock made the whole match, made a new star, sold when needed.

Supreme Olajuwon 02-01-2020 10:27 PM

I will say that I was very skeptical of Brock in the Rumble and he absolutely killed it.

slik 02-01-2020 10:27 PM

Adding the JeriGoat to my list too...so many tied for #1...shit maybe Cody too....this is harder than the women's number one...

Destor 02-01-2020 10:32 PM

Favorite is Danielson but the answer is Lesnar

Simple Fan 02-02-2020 12:16 AM

It's Cody Rhodes. AEW wouldn't exist without him.

Mr. Pierre 02-02-2020 01:53 AM

Brock and Bryan

Evil Vito 02-02-2020 02:12 AM

Yeah I have to say Okada.

Emperor Smeat 02-02-2020 02:24 AM

Okada.

The only real knock against him is the first 10-20 minutes of any of his big matches tend to feel as if its padding match time just for the sake of it. Anyone else and those matches would feel very boring or way too dragged out but he's made them become an effective way to cool down crowds from a very hot match without it hurting his match and build up the suspense of his own match to a crazy level once it hits the next gear.

xrodmuc316 02-02-2020 03:50 AM

Depends on your definition of best.

Brock Lesnar makes $12 million a year for like 5 matches. Seems like the winner to me.

RP 02-02-2020 04:19 AM

Roman Reigns

DaveWadding 02-02-2020 04:47 AM

Tomohiro Ishii

He's fucking glorious and is a master worker. The moves he does actually count, and his face in the ring belongs to a psycho killer that is having a ball being the best at what he does.

Guy is also possibly the best seller in wrestling today. I go back and watch Brock vs. Bryan all the time, just to see Brock sell Bryan's kicks. No one has ever sold them better. Ever.

ClockShot 02-02-2020 08:56 AM

I was gonna say Shane McMahon. But, let's not get carried away and take the gag further.

A.J. Styles, but by the slimmest of margins. I was skeptical at first with him signing with WWE and thinking he would just be a different guy altogether wrestling the WWE style. Instead, he hasn't lost a beat. And he's put on some great matches since he's been there.

Maluco 02-02-2020 10:11 AM

Brock, not even close.

He is a believable beast and as others have said above, he is a master of the craft. His selling, reactions and no wasted energy. Every move means something. Royal Rumble performance was great. It would have been boring in the hands of almost anyone else, but it just showed how good he is.

A lot of the flippers no no sellers need to look at Brock tbh

Kazuchika Okada
Brock Lesnar

Okada has my vote too, he's so good at everything. It's really not fair.

You guys clearly missed my point. It all depends on how you clarify what best means.

I used dollars earned as an example that without set guidelines you can use whatever you want. We can say so and so is best because of this or that.

Truth is, unlike the women thread, there is far too big of a talent pool of male wrestlers to narrow it down to anything outside of say a top 15 without a specific order.

Lesnar, Cody, Okada, Rollins, Styles, Bryan, Omega, Jericho, Ospreay, Reigns, Orton, Pac, Cole, Keith freaking Lee.

That's not even counting the guys who have been or could still be like Kenta, Nakamura, Balor, etc.

Destor 02-02-2020 07:36 PM

Being better isnt judged by how much you make. Its how much people spend on you. Thats how you know youre over.

Destor 02-02-2020 07:37 PM

If tickets dont sell and your merch doesnt move you aint over

Destor 02-02-2020 07:37 PM

And if you cant get over you arent the best

How many tickets and how much merch is Brock moving? Because ticket sales are dwindling, network numbers are dwindling, RAW has the weaker ratings of the 2 big shows, and the last numbers I could find don't have Brock cracking the top 20 (couldn't find a list showing past 20) in WWE merchandise sales.

Sepholio 02-02-2020 07:59 PM

Aka Brock isn't over and he doesn't draw anymore.

Does it impact your enjoyment of a match knowing how much a wrestler is getting paid? Are the guys on the biggest contracts the only ones you want to watch? Is alleged 700k a year Riddick Moss better than Tomohiro Ishii by any logic?

Supreme Olajuwon 02-02-2020 08:44 PM

Great discussion guys! Keep it up!

Mr. Nerfect 02-02-2020 09:01 PM

I don't see the need to jump on xrod. He's just saying Brock has the business by the balls. There's something to that.

Bad News Gertner 02-02-2020 09:23 PM

Shawn Stasiak

Fucking loved Planet Stasiak. That gimmick was fantastic.

A license to print money. Totally owns Eddie Guerrero in this backstage segment.

NOOOOOOO! The point was how is best defined. It was a nonsense response to prove that it is hard narrow it down because what constitutes best. IF, and it's a BIG IF, but IF one were to make the argument that highest paid equals the best, that would mean Brock Lesnar.

Mr. Nerfect 02-02-2020 11:25 PM

Being paid can be an indicator, if not necessarily the best or most accurate one, of someone's worth. Brock isn't getting paid $12 million because he sucks.

Jordan 02-03-2020 10:32 AM

I would say Okada in a landslide. Others worth talking about are Ospeay, Naito, Jericho & Omega.

IMO this is a far better metric the XRods.

Ah yes, Stephanie McMahon Helmsley. By your metric of who makes the most money, Stephanie would probably be considered the best wrestler in the world.

But there is a separate thread for female wrestlers so you probably should’ve posted this in there.

Brock doesn't appear week to week, I don't think it's fair to pin ratings on him. Same with merch given his stuff sucks shit.

Shouldn't Lynch and Rollins be to blame? They're supposed to be the leaders

Sepholio 02-04-2020 07:36 PM

Oh, they are all to blame, but people always give credit to the champ/"top draw" when the ratings/sales are doing good so they deserve just as much credit when everything is tanking.

And tbf basically all WWE merch sucks shit.

Bad News Gertner 02-04-2020 07:39 PM

The brand draws , not the individual wrestler.

Okay fair, just wanted to clarify

99% of it does, yeah. That Lynch one with the Japanese shit on it is probably the only one I'd buy, island) and I don't even like her

I haven't gotten any WWE merch in years. The last one I probably bought was a football jersey style Tazz shirt nearly 20 years ago. I do have a couple bad ass AEW shirts though because they have a few decent ones to choose from.

Seanny One Ball 02-04-2020 10:27 PM

I had a Smackdown Hotel shirt that my mum got me for doing well at school. Also that sweet Aggression album.

Sepholio 02-04-2020 10:45 PM

Yea those old WWE albums were the boobs

Seanny One Ball 02-04-2020 11:04 PM

I remember that fucknut from the Wrestling With Regret YouTube channel slagged that Aggression album off big time and I got pretty pissed off.
Then he dissed Corny and I unsubscribed.

What a jabroni.

Sepholio 02-05-2020 04:50 AM

I miss WWE having awesome mixes done by real bands for entrance music. Like when Finger Eleven did Slow Chemical for Kane. And the Our Lady Peace theme for Benoit was incredible.

Seanny One Ball 02-05-2020 05:02 AM

Just found out that Kurt Angle's theme came from The Patriot originally.
I like it when I watch old matches and notice stuff like that. Val Venis and Rick Martell shared one too.

Mr. Nerfect 02-05-2020 06:37 AM

Shawn Stasiak is only 50 this year. Still a chance for him to become the second youngest AEW World Champion ever.

I remember a cavalcade of jobbers in WCW using what eventually became Goldberg’s music.

Seanny One Ball 02-05-2020 12:38 PM

Jobbers that he then squashed in 30 seconds while their old/his new music played.
