Shad Gaspard missing after being pulled out to sea

Saved his 10 year old before being pulled out by the riptide. Fuck.

Mr. Nerfect 05-18-2020 04:34 PM

Oh fuck. That's tragic. I was reading a few years ago how he foiled a bank robbery. Dude married a fitness model and seemed to have life by the balls after getting a pretty raw deal from WWE.

GD 05-18-2020 06:00 PM

This is heartbreaking.

Seanny One Ball 05-18-2020 06:01 PM

Tugboat must be the number one suspect here as he is forever pulling things out to sea.

Sucks, I remember him all the way back from Tough Enough. Sadly if they don't get rescued in a few minutes, you just hope for a recovery of his body for his family's sake.

This is what the weather was like earlier today at the beach during the search efforts.

This is really awful news. Can't believe some of your are making such shitty jokes. I've seen people more heartbroken about drug overdoses from our 'heroes' around here. Dude goes out a hero and gets reduced to some unfunny banter.

Yeah, I know, none of us know him, people die every day, that's what we do around here, blah blah blah. Still pretty shitty.

Couldn't imagine being his ten year old son right about now.

GD 05-19-2020 11:50 AM

I cannot fathom what his son must be going through.

Mr. Nerfect 05-19-2020 03:15 PM

People deal with shit in different ways. And none of us actually knew the man. Hushed tones and pasted on humility can come off grating to people too. I don’t think anyone is genuinely happy that this happened to the guy. Cryme Tyme didn’t suck that bad.

Seriously. The crowd was always hot for them. But they couldn't seem to help themselves but throw the tag belts on two singles guys.....same shit they still do in 2020.

Evil Vito 05-19-2020 03:33 PM

I saw Cryme Tyme at WrestleCon last year. I knew Shad was a huge dude of course but I was blown away at how big JTG was in person considering he was one of the smallest guys on the main roster his whole time there. I dunno if he'd bulked up since he'd left or if that's just perspective on how big a lot of the roster really are.

Anybody Thrilla 05-19-2020 03:37 PM

Did Cryme Tyme have a tag title match with Jerishow at like Summerslam 09 or something like that? I remember one time where it really felt like they were about to take the straps, but they just...didn't.

I think this explains your failure to break the big time as a comedian pretty nicely.
You couldn't come up with anything so you just lean into the old "freedom of expression as long as it's what I want to express" bullshit.

This is the internet bro, if this fucker wanted my respect in death he should have won 5 titles, gotten away with a rape and taken the kid out with him in a swirling vortex of exploding machinery.

Some new details regarding the initial rescue attempt that managed to safely rescue Gaspard's son.

Quote:

The lifeguard who first responded to Shad and his son at around 4pm local time on Sunday, between 50 and 70 yards off the shore, said the Gaspards were caught in a strong rip current, enveloped in what's called an "impact zone."

"The best way I can describe it," said Kenichi Haskett, Section Chief of the LA County Fire Department - Lifeguard Division who personally debriefed the lifeguard. "is like being inside a front-loading washing machine. The waves keep crashing on you, pushing you down. ... I've been through that, those kind of rescues. You think you might die."

This was the first weekend where Los Angeles County opened its beaches since the coronavirus stay-at-home order was issued. Swells were 6 feet and the current was fast, water was choppy due to bad weather. Shad and his son were now 200 yards north of where the lifeguard first spotted them. The lifeguard tried to deliver a "rescue can" (small buoy-like device to tow distressed swimmers back to shore) to Shad and his son, but the boy was unable to secure it due to the size of the waves.

The lifeguard, who also has a middle school-aged son, was now presented with an excruciating dilemma as he recognized how big Shad was - 6 foot 6 inches, around 270 pounds.

"Based on the gentlemen's size and the conditions in the water...," Haskett said, "these are choices we do not want to make."

The lifeguard reported that Shad told him to rescue his son first. "Take my son," Shad said.

Less than three minutes later, Shad's son was safe on the shore, physically unharmed but deeply distraught.

"Dad told me to push off to the guy," Shad's son told Steve Smith, a firefighter-paramedic from Rescue 63 in Venice. Shad's son kept saying that: "Dad told me to push off to the guy."

The lifeguard then turned back to make a quick return to the ocean, and saw Shad again.

"A wave pushed him under in the impact zone," said Haskett. "He didn't resurface after that."

It's rough for a kid, but hopefully the message he takes from it is his father loved him so much he gave his life for him.

I hope Shad was able to see that his son was safe before being pulled under the water.

JTG was always billed as something like 6'1 and 235lbs. He was a jacked dude. Shad just made him look smaller, I think.

I've watched ABT's stuff. Not my cup of tea but he's a polished performer and has confidence on stage. I respect him as a comedian because he gets laughs and fuck me that's a hard thing to do. Even his earlier stuff does pretty well in the room. I imagine myself in that position and just eating utter fucking shit.

However, his inability to laugh at himself/his propensity to be a fuddy-duddy and take himself too seriously will always hold him back from breaking through.

Nothing wrong with having faith in yourself. Dave Chappelle talks about how he's the fucking man all the time but will balance it with ripping on himself in the goofiest of manners.

When miscellaneous jobbers die it's always going to be the Massaro treatment.
Unless it's a named jobber like Sal Sincere, Just Joe or Brooklyn Brawler.

You could probably stand there telling dead baby jokes for ten minutes and get a reaction provided you have the right audience and give them the delivery they want.
It's a formula in which the contents are less important than their measurements and the main concern is how they are prepared for use.

That being said this is more about an aspiring comedian having the audacity to question anybody's judgement with regards to jokes.
That's the fast track to a fuck you and he should really know by now.

Maluco 05-20-2020 01:46 PM

People can still believe jokes are unfunny and in bad taste and still be in favour of freedom of speech, right?

You have the right to say anything, but the consequences of that, how people see you and the impression you give, is out of your control.

I think it’s a really sad situation and it’s a horrible story to see unfold. I also think the jokes in the thread were terribly unfunny and unnecessary. At the same time, you have every right to make them.

Seanny One Ball 05-20-2020 01:51 PM

I'm not a big fan of those kinds of dark jokes. But I recall an episode of home improvement when jill's dad (aka the kid's grandpa) dies, and Randy is making "tasteless" jokes. It's just how people deal with mortality, and it's not like any of us know Shad in a way that should make us legitimately upset by some silliness.

Just feel the preachiness high-horse stuff isn't necessary.

Seanny One Ball 05-20-2020 01:54 PM

Ever notice how ABT comes here exclusively to sell himself or to moan?
So it's "Fuck you, buy my wares" effectively.

A terrible strategy.

I don’t feel like finding that sort of stuff distasteful is being on a high horse. I feel like it’s a normal reaction to be respectful to someone who has just died. But yeah, different people handle things in different ways. It’s not a big deal.

I just think it sounds a bit callous and unsympathetic. Like it doesn’t really matter who he was, it’s still tragic. It doesn’t take a whole lot of effort to have a bit of empathy.

Just a bit of a downer to open the thread and see the first page.

Yep, that's why the person to look down disapprovingly should not be a comedian.
Genuine righteous indignation is a legitimate grievance and an expected downside to using dark humour in an inadvisable setting.

That's why the rewards are so rich for a particularly funny joke dropped into a place nobody expects it. You wouldn't turn up at the guys funeral to do it though.

Furthermore nobody is actually insulting or mocking Shad Gaspard for drowning and saving a human life in the process.
Well, maybe droford came on a bit strong with the racial meme but other than that it's a couple of puns on his name and industry and an assertion that Vince thinks black guys look alike. Vince McMahon who has actually said the N word on air.
