Is Chris Jericho shot?
Maybe it’s his age, or maybe it’s the mass that he’s recently added but he just looks like he’s in slow motion out there and has a hard time getting into and out of any sort of exchange. Kaz could barely put the walls of Jericho on him on the most recent dynamite, I dunno. What say you?
|
he looks like he drinks a lot and plays golf
|
I do believe Jericho treats vodka like it’s water, which is admirable in my books.
|
All I know is that before I stopped watching AEW, I was literally fast forwarding the whole show and only watching the segments/matches that involved Chris Jericho.
|
The guy is just fat. He needs to lose weight. Someone on here said he gained weight on purpose because he wanted to look like some old school Japan heavyweight. It was a bad choice for sure. Jericho looked blown up last night after that match. But to be fair, Kazarian looked like shit.

That being said, again, his promos/skits are generally entertaining as hell. |

He is still def one of my fav guys in AEW (especially on the mic) but def seems very slow in the ring and every time he kicks out it looks like shit
|
Yes, he’s a later-life crisis having alcoholic. I’ll always be grateful for what he did for Tazz Dan, but he’s producing bullshit content that goes against his own professional philosophy now.

It doesnt matter if Chris Jericho is shot or not.
Chris Jericho could come down to the ring, lay down farting and talk about his favorite drinks while counting a jar of peanuts and would still be more entertaining than 80% of wrestlers out there. |

His physical condition fluctuates weekly. You can tell when he's been drinking a lot vs when he cares and actually trains. This week he looked really bad. I think it's likely he's been appearing on Dynamite intoxicated at least a few times as well. Or he has a reoccurring case of pink eye(s). He is definitely at the end of his road IMO.

he's really out of shape. if he got into ring shape i bet he could still go but its not like AEW is is requiring him to put any work in so its not going to change
|
As a former fat person, I can tell you trying to get up from being flat on your back is one helluva task.
Jericho just looks really fucking bloated. He looked best in the early 2000s. Looked a lot smaller when he started making his regular returns in WWE. And now he just looks fucking fat. Wish he'd drop like 20 lbs. Think it would make his matches better. |
He's basically getting to do whatever he wants so I doubt that's gonna change and I'm guessing Tony Khan isn't about to tell him to drop some lbs

Dustin Rhodes is 51 and he's still putting on good matches and moving well despite debuting over 30 years ago. The difference here is that Dustin has obviously put a focus on taking care of himself and staying fit and Jericho doesn't.

I understand why Jericho originally wanted to go for the barrel gut look for his return to Japan. But it's one thing to do it when you show up for a couple matches a year, it's another when you're on TV every week.
Once AEW got their TV deal, he should've at least gotten back into the shape he was in for his 2016/17 WWE run. AEW should've told him to do it, but even without that it's a mark against him that he doesn't have the motivation. |
There are shoot interviews with him online from 2018-2019 and he looks half the age he does now. He is bloated in the face and just looks so unhealthy.
He is such a smart mind for the business. You would think he would have the sense to see that of new fans turn over and see Jericho in that state, they will immediately think he is past it. He wouldn’t be allowed on WWE TV looking like that. Presentation makes such a big difference. |
Let's all be honest and clear. Jericho nor anyone would ever actually want to look the way he did when he went to Japan. He obviously looked in the mirror at his fat body and said "I can make this work". There is no way he decided to get fat to evolve his character.
|
Cultivating mass.

I haven't watched wrestling of any kind for almost five years so I have no evolution to gauge but when I saw him on Dark Side of the Ring it was pretty jarring.

Waited all thread for this post. I dunno what you guys are smoking but this is the reality behind the bollocks. |
I just hope Jericho’s story doesn’t end up in tragedy at this point. We all laugh at the decline, but the dude has had a life and a career. People suck up to him as he clearly gets too drunk and runs his mouth on Twitter. Functional addicts have this way of making themselves appear to be in control when they’re really not. Finding a job where he can do whatever he wants probably enables that.
|
Anybody remember when Chris Jericho got drunk and went on Twitter to call of all people Brock Lesnar fat?
That was a whoopsie! |
If he got back into better shape, I think he can finish strong.
Of course, age limitations will prevent him from performing like he did in his prime. But he can do the wildman brawling pretty good--just needs to be in better shape. |

What's Jericho doing at Wrestle Kingdom next year? You know, since he put on the weight for them. |
What makes it worse is that everyone could basically watch this happen in real time, chronicled week on week, since the dawn of AEW he has gotten fatter and slower and sloppier in the ring. Made more poignant by the fact that, in both gimmick in WWE and for-real interview, said he doesn't want to be someone who's past his prime and hangs on just too long and starts tarnishing himself.
He is actually living the lyrics to Judas. Jericho's fall is either tragically sad to watch or the makings of the greatest long con ever for the king of re-invention. Pretty sure he's not doing this on purpose, and he's just stopped giving a fuck and is content so skate by on what's left of his name and Fozzy money. However, let's say the Inner Circle breaks up, then Chris "takes a break" and then comes back in a few months in shape and with better cardio for his "Steamboat run" and career swan song, I think that would be a very interesting development. We shall see. Side note on Inner Circle... something deep down tells me this was something sniped from Shawn Spears after that inital sit-down where Tully appeared. He mentioned the whole "five people" thing, and then, suddenly Jericho gets a five man stable. I have no facts to back me up, but I always got the feeling Inner Circle was supposed to be his group, but he was replaced by Chris for "name value" and/or "veteran status". |
If Jericho's heel character is the aging rockstar who still has a brash attitude as he star fades - its genius.

I do think Jericho will get a face run in AEW before he hangs 'em up, and MJF would be a logical foil for him in that case. But yeah, if he doesn't get in shape for that run it'll be underwhelming.
Problem is, once vaccines are out and we're more or less back to live crowds and live entertainment getting to go back to normal...I'm sure he wants to get back on the road with Fozzy ASAP too. He might take the break to tour with them that he was supposed to take this year...but no way he won't be partying and drinking on tour. He might come back even fatter. |

But the biggest indictment to me came way later, with a listen to one of the Cornette podcasts where Brian had some pretty scathing opinions on Chris's career trajectory, and how he "latches on to whatever is hot that he thinks might further himself and his career", like a feud with Orange Cassidy (because OC was hot-right-now at that moment). That kinda aligned with all my amateur sleuthing. Chris might have not outright bogarted it, but there may have been a sabotaging suggestion that he would be better suited for the role than Shawn. |
Spears could benefit from being in a group for sure.
Not sure I can buy him leading one (though I'm a fan) but him being in a thing would probably be good. |
Spears could be a decent babyface trying to avenge himself but falling short. I've been saying that should Tully add a few more members to his group, ideally another singles competitor and female wrestler, that they could oust Spears, get him some sympathy and use him to further Tully's new group.
|
I largely understand most of AEW's signings from WWE. Dustin was always going to go in to work his brother and become a veteran presence, Brodie/Hardy/Miro all had varying levels of buzz about them.
Spears was the one signing that felt like a move we'd have laughed at vintage TNA for back in the day. Cardona would have felt that way too but he only had a temporary deal. I don't have anything against Spears, it's just clear the dude got signed because he's one of the first friends Cody made in the business. They held the OVW Tag Titles together way back in the day. |
He's also turning 40 in a couple months. He's a nice low/mid card piece but I wouldn't put much resources behind him
|
There is something I like about Spears but also plenty that I don't. I feel like he has the look and tools but has never been able to be "himself". His character attempts always seem to fall flat to me, even in NXT with the 10 gimmick, what was that? He's never been able to come up with something uniquely him. His shining moment was when he cracked Cody with the chair but quickly afterwards the heat was lost when he ended up dropping down the card for half a year. Now he has a loaded glove gimmick, it's just not unique or original in any way. I think he needs to go on a meditation retreat and find himself and magnify that discovery as his Wrestling character.
|
Ted DiBiase was awesome with his loaded gloves gimmick in Mid South. The added heat was that he would use it even though he didn't need it because he was so good.
|
Spears should have one upped the loaded glove gimmick and had his right arm surgically replaced with a gattling gun. Got to believe this was pitched to TK but they couldn't reach a deal with Square Enix to figure out all the details before launch day.
|
Someone needs to bring back the D Lo Brown chest protector.

Chris Jericho was trending on Twitter last night for being a fat fuck haha.

I hope he turns into a gimmick. Like, MJF leads an intervention and initiates it as Chris is about to destroy a pound of french fries.
|
I don't understand why people think this is good
Jericho will turn this into a bit, the same 800,000 viewers will tune in and think it's the greatest thing ever and then get ultra defensive when people point out it's stuff like this that's causing your audience not to grow It's terrible optics. Former fans are LAUGHING at your face of the company. |
And I say this as a lifelong Jericho fan. He was my favourite wrestler for years.

The lone thing I'll say in Jericho's defense is that I hope to only be as fat as him when I'm 50 years old and have not even a fraction of wear and tear on my body as he does.
Doesn't mean he should still be wrassling if he's not even going to attempt to make it look like he cares about his presentation. Shouldn't be the first thing people see off of an NBA lead in. |
I think that each week he looks 5 pounds heavier, which doesn’t make matters any better in terms of optics. It’s also having a huge impact on his performance, he can barely kick out half the time it’s a school boy or smack package, roll up etc. He’s can’t feed a comeback at all pretty much, it’s just sad.

YES!!!!!!!!
Go look at more "smarky" forums than TPWW It's why I more or less only post here and why I like posting here. It's not full of "ride or die" smarky dickbags. |

I think performance and match wise Jericho has been mostly fine. But he's been fat since the start of AEW it's clearly affecting what he is capable of doing. He gets by because he's been around forever and knows how to smoke and mirrors his way to a decent to good match.
However, he looks fucking awful. If he turns it into a bit, great. I'm sure it'll be entertaining. Ideally he turns it into a bit with the intention of losing some (a lot of) weight. |
I would have agreed with you before the summer that it wasn’t effecting Jericho’s performance in the ring, but over the last few weeks it very clearly is. When he did a lionsault on the last episode of Dynamite, I thought he was going to land on his hand, and in the same match he did a top rope spot, teasing a superplex and looks terrible trying to balance on the ropes. He needs to limit his move set or lose 40 pounds.
|
One of these days he's gonna crap himself in the ring.
|
Apparently Jericho shared a few of the positive tweets from the NBA slam session on him. Which means the guy waded through tweet after tweet making fun of him to find the few that weren’t to prop up his ego.
I don’t care what anyone says, the guy cannot be in a good place right now. |
So because I hate my life, I went back and checked the responses to my Jericho being the face of the comments on 411mania. Two responses stuck out:
"Cody Rhodes is a mainstream star and people outside of wrestling know who he is". No he is not lol "Jericho isn't the face of the company. I watch AEW for Fenix, FTR, Harper, Miro Moxley". That's not the same thing. |
lol Christ
|
Even if they watch for different people than Jericho, to suggest that any of those qualify as "face of the company" is laughable.
(Maybe you could say Moxley because he was champion for so long, but even that seems like a stretch.) |
This is why I only post here lol
|
If a lapsed or Casual fan were to ask an AEW fan who is on the show, I guarantee they say Jericho. Guaranteed.
|
Exactly. He's the name.
lol again at Cody being a mainstream star. I like the guy, but come on here. |
Quote:
Ooooof. I enjoy watching most of their stuff, but Cody is still very LOL to me. I can appreciate what he's done or whatever, but I just couldn't care less about him in the ring, at all. Since I've been away from the on-screen product, a lot of the AEW guys are "new" or "unknown" to me - and I think that's why I watch moreso than not. Has the "unpredictable" feel to me. Haven't watched in a couple months because I'm not streaming. |

Awwww they are? Jericho is a baby. Like most AEW fans. P.S. What record ratings?
|
He was clearly drunk tweeting again. I’m sure maybe a EW fanboy can chime in and let us know what he’s talking about.
