NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day
 

Card for tonight's show looks great just like every other TakeOver on paper but something about the build felt a bit lackluster or off like most TakeOvers these days.

Like the Women's Dusty tournament felt more like an afterthought than something that should have been way more special.

Eli Drake to NXT, now named LA Knight.

Weird name, but a good intro promo.

Not good sign for the NWA's future well-being since that's another name gone from the company during this ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

I miss Powerrr, that was a fun show.

Wasn't too fond of it from the couple episodes I watched but really liked the unique setup and style to their show compared to others. Helped make it stand out a lot and give off classic NWA wrestling vibes.

Women's Dusty Tag finals was very good.

That air Gonzalez got on her chokeslam was amazing.

Guess Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler are losing the tag belts soon since WWE doesn't really do heel vs. heel matches.

I feel they are building up to the Shawn Michaels Sycho Sid face turn for her, with Raquel just destroying her.

Ember / Shotzi is a really good pairing. I feel like they have good tag team chemistry. Hope they'll stick together for a while.

KUSHIDA wrestling in jeans feels weird. Should be a good one though.

This mix of live crowd and fake crowd cheering has been very jarring in this KUSHIDA vs. Gargano match.

Wonder how long tonight's main event is going to be since its usually the longest for TakeOver shows and this KUSHIDA vs. Gargano match has been on going on too long even though its also been mostly great so far.

This is the best match I've seen in awhile.

KUSHIDA vs. Gargano was great. Also was easily KUSHIDA's best match in NXT so far.

Don't know why they went that long just for Gargano to retain though.

Yeah thought the same. The longer it went and them making a big focus with the arm stuff made it seem like that was going to happen.

The shenanigans with Theory being missing during Gargano's entrance played zero role in the match itself which was a bit odd.

Wikipedia says their match was only around 24 minutes but that felt a lot longer.

Watched the Kushida/Gargano match and the MSK/other team match and just didn't enjoy them at all.

Too many spots and too many kickouts...NXT has gone overboard with it. When you treat everything as special then nothing is special.

Not going to watch the women's match but will tune back in for Balor match.

Not as good as the Gargano/KUSHIDA match earlier but this match is still v good. In terms of just the matches NXT consistently puts on the best matches of any of the North American promotions at the very least. Every show has multiple really good matches.

If his knee isn't legit hurt then Pete Dunne is doing some of the best selling I have ever seen for a leg injury. He has had multiple insane selling spots that have to be v dangerous in themselves.

Good match. Seemed shorter than I expected it to be.

Having just a 5-match card and 2.5 to 3 hours per TakeOver helps a lot but on the flip side, I personally think NXT has too many extra long matches for TakeOver shows or follow a very similar routine.

They always have 1-2 matches per show that go on way longer than it should and/or devolve into a spam fest for moves and finishers. Like Gargano matches are the type I've soured on the most since they've felt like very forced epics these days, especially once HBK started having a bigger hand in them, even though the matches are also almost always great.

Yea they def overdo the long match. But at the same time if these guys can consistently put on these kinds of performances in these long matches then I really can't complain.

Very good main. Gargano/KUSHIA was MOTN with the Dusty men’s final a close second but a really fun show all around.

NXT Title match was great although surprised it was a bit short compared to NXT's usual length for main event matches.

This might have been the best NXT TakeOver event these past couple year.

So I'm guessing Balor v Cole is gonna be on the WM card then.

That's the second TakeOver in a row Balor has main evented that ended with him not being the focal point for the show closing moment.

Tonight had Cole's heel turn and the one before at TakeOver 31 ended with the Cole & Ridge Holland ringside antics.

Flip those two and that's how I'm currently leaning towards at the moment from tonight's show.

Nothing wrong with Gargano vs. KUSHIDA but think I'm just a bit tired of the format or routine with Gargano's TakeOver matches these days. Still would rather watch his matches than what WWE typically offers for big PPV matches these days though.
