BREAKING: AEW Dynamite moves to TBS in 2022
https://deadline.com/2021/05/aew-dyn...22-1234760112/
Turner said Wednesday that TNT’s wrestling series AEW: Dynamite will move to TBS in January 2022. The move comes as TNT is adding the new hourlong series AEW: Rampage, which will debut August 13 at 10 p.m. ET. Dynamite is currently in the middle of Season 3 on TNT, with a new episode of the All Elite Wrestling series coming tonight at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. TNT will debut four new pro wrestling specials annually as part of the new deal announced today, which will culminate with the AEW’s move to TBS next year. Last year, All Elite Wrestling extended its relationship with WarnerMedia through 2023, renewing AEW Dynamite on TNT and planning a new night of programming which became Rampage. |
Sounds good to me.
The 4 supershows sounds similar to Clash of the Champions and I'm all for that. |
They'd be replacing 4 episodes of Big Bang Theory if the move was today...sounds like a win for the TBS network honchos.
|
TBS is actually in more homes than TNT, it's a win for rasslin fans.
|
|
So will the new show also be on TBS, or will Rampage remain on TNT?
Would be weird to move their flagship show but leave the new one. |
I want to know how this changing the taping/touring schedule.
|
My guess is Rampage will tape before Dynamite (or maybe some of it after if any big names are on). So it'll be wherever they're on the road.
AEW Dark might go away, or become something where they just continue to tape it at Daily's Place every week on off-days, depending on how many non-contracted talent they want to keep around. |
August 2021 -
TNT starts AEW: Rampage on TNT, Friday nights where it'll remain. January 2022 - AEW: Dynamite swaps from TNT to TBS (assume the same time) and shouldn't have anything that interferes with its time slot The big 4 TNT special events will be scheduled as to not interfere with NBA/NHL. I'm guessing if Dark/Elevation aren't axed by then that they'll be taped in front of the Dynamite/Rampage crowds because I sure as hell wouldn't want to attend just a 1hr Rampage show. |

mayb we will find out tonight
|
The new Wednesday night “war” is between Dynamite and whether it can be as effective as old Big Bang Theory reruns.
|
The hype from AEW is dying off now. The only people watching AEW are Meltzer Sheep and the ratings are going to just keep plummeting. TNT is getting out while the getting is good so AEW can go fail on TBS.
|
They’ll bounce AEW around to whatever channel they want, because they think (/know) wrestling fans are losers that have very little appeal to advertisers, no matter how Meltzer tries to spin their numbers.
They’re cheap content whores for Warner. Impossible to get excited about this shit. They can’t make Dynamite good before they had another fucking show? And people will gobble their dick down because they’re not WWE despite being an even bigger mess in some ways. Because marks are still a thing. |

Right now, they are looking at around 5+ hours of content needing to be taped each week and probably having to do it all in one location since the every other week taping schedule is only happening because of COVID. Only way around that would be to split the tapings over two days like they do now at Daily's Place. |

I get it though... Quote:

Based on some tv ratings stuff, TBS averaged around 415k for their shows last year and down huge from the 1.15 million they averaged the year prior.
Quote:
Edit: Based on network rankings last year, TBS was watched more than TNT during primetime hours so AEW might not be affected or at least not that badly from switching networks unlike what happened to Impact years ago. TBS was ranked #14 while TNT was ranked #18. https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/net...bs-1234866801/ |
What about the TNT Championship?
|
I assume it would just become the TBS Championship and carry over the lineage.
|
or they can call it the tv belt that would be better then tbs.
|
Just call it The Ted Turner Rasslin’ Title.
Never have to worry about the network again. |

Word is they got an eight figure pay day for the expansion and channel switch.
|
Also read that the TNT Title is likely going to remain the same name.

Meltzer hyping it up hard. Nobody reminded Dave that Vince has Three 10 figure paydays I guess  |
Who the fuck takes time to read what Meltzer has to say? lol

did anyone ever learn what the sideplates are of? ted turner's front porch?
|
Its the original home building of TNT.

Oh man, still can’t believe how rich this is. They bring in a TNT Title, Tony Khan continuously big-ups TNT even calling it their “home” after the recent merger. Haha, nope. Off to comedy rerun central with you, bitches.
|
Comedy Central is not TBS :(

Noid is really miffed about a show he claims to not watch switching networks. Strange bird.
|
Switching networks with as many potential eyeballs and if I read it right a boost in pay and another hour of content, no less. Terrible for AEW I guess.
|
I think TBS is actually available in more homes than TNT.
|
No no no it’s terrible for aew because they named their title after TNT

More homes doesn’t mean shit, other than they can miss the mark with more potential viewers. This is not an upgrade for the promotion. It is WarnerMedia realizing this shit-show doesn’t fit in with sports and original dramatic content, so they’re sending it to their light entertainment network and hope wrestling fans follow it, so they can sell a few ads to discount pharmacies. They did this to themselves. The people who watch this shit are not valuable consumers in the eyes of the commercial world. They’re losers who like loser wrestling for losers. This could have been soooo good. But smarks are the new marks and they clapped like trained seals for shit with no wider appeal, and attacked anyone who stuck their hand up to suggest that maybe this isn’t sustainable and would come back to bite them. |

Look up any best shows of all time list, 0 will be TBS Originals. TBS is not Comedy Central is the more accurate statement. |

Thing is, though, I was a bigger fan of Joe Bob Briggs, and that was on TNT.
Speaking of, I got a fan mail response from him a couple years back when he first started hosting The Last Drive-In on Shudder. It was awesome, especially since it was mostly me gushing about mom and how she and I were watching all kinds of schlocky shit since forever ago back when he was on TMC (specifically, it related to his "cicada" story on TLDI). The man literally goes through all the physical and e-mail he's ever gotten and tries to respond to all of them. Said he has a fond place in his heart for NE Ohio, since he got his start in Berea, which isn't super far from here. |
I’m genuinely curious to see whether AEW’s PPVs go to HBO Max and they mine them for cheap content from wrestling fans because they don’t care where subscriptions come from, or whether this is the slow phase-out. Send them to TBS, let them stew there, “okay this isn’t working, see ya later.”
More interesting than their actual fucking shows. |
Love Joe Bob Briggs.
I've always looked at TBS and TNT as fairly interchangeable in terms of the quality of their programming. Or lack of quality. Then again I hate most television so who knows. |
Joe Bob was a far better host but Monster Vision wasnt big for me. c tier horror is only fun when its rifftrax/mst3k
|
See I'm the opposite. I like to enjoy the stupidity of c tier horror without the commentary over the top. Definitely appreciate mst3k, but I personally prefer a host to make cracks about it in between commercial breaks.

I’m also a monster that prefers the horror movie to be authentically presented, but that’s usually to make fun of it with friends ourselves.
|
So many words about a show he won't see. Just a weird use of time.

Cant wait till WWE moves to Discovery. |

By the way, isn’t it apparent that I am coming here less and less? Like fucking everybody? Because this forum is dead, because wrestling is dead. And AEW is doing their part in that. |
The majority of active discussion here is about AEW.
|
thats probably true
|
It's all my fault. I haven't been online for Dynamite threads lately due to work. My bad.

Whether you love AEW, tolerate AEW, or think it's overhyped and want to shit on everyone's parade - there's at least more to discuss with them given that they're still only about two years in and evolving. On the other hand, what is there even to discuss with WWE at this point? WWE is to its credit very good at what it is meant to be doing at this point - creating content and making money hand over first. This does not require the content to be good, and you'd be hard pressed to find anybody on here praising most of WWE's booking aside from a few things (Roman's heel turn etc). That's because most episodes of WWE's weekly TV are carbon copy of one another. They're fulfilling content obligations and networks are happy to pay for it, and until there's a threat of that changing there's little reason for them to do anything but play it safe. TV is almost entirely skippable, once in a while you'll get a banger of a PPV. But they are what they are at this point. They aren't changing and so there's little to actually discuss. |
Quote:
This is the Joey Ryan argument of “it’s entertaining the people there.” Look how few people are there. And look at what the wider audience wants. It ain’t AEW. |
Quote:
Also I would much rather the discussions be about WWE, but it is what it is. |
Fuck no. WWE isn't suffering from any new kinds of problems. They've been discussed ad nauseum on here over the last 10 years and it's pretty clear they're not going to change, because frankly, they don't have to.
I'm in the camp that isn't totally sold on AEW, but at the very least, they have the potential to change and right the ship. So discussing my likes and dislikes of AEW feels like a better use of my time, than harping on about the same old WWE issues yet again. |

We actually could use a MST3K setup for AEW... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/t5gbCBvXb5A" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> I posted this for the picture, not the actual audio. Screencapping and editing said pic was too much like work. |

AEW has been on TV for over a year and a half, 85 2 hour episodes. They have made no adjustments to grow their audience whatsoever. They are what they are, and it's fine, but they have to be past the point where they have any "new wrestling company" buzz. To quote Fig, but speaking about AEW "it's pretty clear they're not going to change, because frankly, they don't have to." They have a rich mark who is going to keep funding them, and EVP's who are going to keep stroking his ego to keep him loyal. As fans, we get some good, some bad, but mostly just a bunch of filler randomly thrown together matches that mean nothing. |
A year and a half seems like a long time, but it's a drop in the bucket in the lifespan of a wrestling promotion. I'm not implying it's going to happen anytime soon, as you're completely right that they don't need to change right now, thanks to a loyal fan base. That said, they will eventually have to shake up their way of doing things if they want to survive, let alone grow their audience.
I guess after watching NJPW recover from their cataclysmic mma infusion in the early 00's I can believe any promotion can change for the better. The exception being a case like WWE, where the business side makes such an ungodly amount of money that they can produce content for investors instead of content for wrestling fans. |
I’m actually say they need to change but can’t. They do not have the mentality too. And they’ve already lost their network. What happens when TBS works out that putting old episodes of Big Bang is going to make them a wider margin of profit? Will HBO Max want those PPVs when they do 40k domestic for Double or Nothing or whatever?
2.5 years might seem like a short time for a wrestling company, but it’s only a drop for the ones that survive. AEW has got the rich backer, but they are getting themselves into WCW 2001 territory, where there is nothing they can do to increase revenue streams. |
