What are your comfort shows?

Shows that you always watch before bed or just to have something on in the background?

My go-to’s are

The Office (of course )
Friends
King of the Hill
King of Queens (hasn’t aged that well but I love Jerry Stiller)
Simpsons (1-10)

Also, I find old episodes of the original Law & Order very comforting for some reason.

ron the dial 09-10-2021 12:30 AM

it was the office for years and years and years but more recently has been dawson's creek. more often than not, though, i go with old eps of last podcast on the left when i sleep.

ron the dial 09-10-2021 12:45 AM

maybe a bit of recency bias here but schitt's creek also comes to mind. and since i already broke the rules, i want to include all godzilla movies especially godzilla against mechagodzilla (2002).

also freaks and geeks.

Juan 09-10-2021 12:49 AM

Yes! Schitt's Creek quickly became one of my top shows ever

Lock Jaw 09-10-2021 01:05 AM

Simpsons
Seinfeld

Put these on in the background extremely often.

I will say that more often than not I will just watch "YouTube" clips of shows instead of the actual shows.... watch a lot of clips from Simpsons, The Office, Whose Line is it Anyways... Community...

Juan 09-10-2021 01:09 AM

Seinfeld a is good one too. It's usually on TV when I'm doing some cleaning or cooking and it's on in the background for sure

Lock Jaw 09-10-2021 01:13 AM

Oh yeah, add Arrested Development to the YouTube clips list....

M-A-G 09-10-2021 02:08 AM

The X-Files. Not even a question.

Sepholio 09-10-2021 09:24 AM

Ancient Aliens
X-Files
Fringe
Trailer Park Boys
Futurama

Good News Gertie 09-14-2021 07:02 PM

Brooklyn 99
Bojack Horseman
The Mindy Project
New Girl
The Office
Broad City
Black Mirror
The Twilight Zone
Peep Show
Curb Your Enthusiasm

Lock Jaw 09-14-2021 07:10 PM

Shows that cause anxiety and existential dread = comfort?

ron the dial 09-14-2021 07:10 PM

i'm with her on the twilight zone. reminds me of childhood.

Lock Jaw 09-14-2021 07:14 PM

I was talking about New Girl

Lock Jaw 09-14-2021 07:14 PM

The Twilight Zone is the most intelligent, diverse science fiction ever written.
Nothing could ever hope to equal it given how thoroughly it moralised and categorised it’s themes.

Honestly, yeah. Sometimes I watch horror movies for comfort too. Stuff that’s worse than reality can be comforting in contrast.

Seanny One Ball 09-14-2021 08:22 PM

You sound like a skinhead lol.

Sorry, this is where you sound like a skinhead.

Good News Gertie 09-14-2021 08:26 PM

I don’t get it.

Seanny One Ball 09-14-2021 08:38 PM

You should look into the history of the term before you use it.

Seanny One Ball 09-14-2021 08:40 PM

Rhiannon shave all your hair off you poser.

You might as well now you are using the terminology.

I’m not sure you’re sure which skinhead subculture you’re referring to.

Seanny One Ball 09-14-2021 08:48 PM

It is racist terminology lol

Seanny One Ball 09-14-2021 08:49 PM

This is the first time I’ve realised quite how stupid you actually are.

It is unbelievable.

You’re literally Scottish.

Seanny One Ball 09-14-2021 08:54 PM

I am, and I didn’t say lefties never used the term.

Just more scumbags innit.

Seanny One Ball 09-14-2021 08:54 PM

Why even mention my race there btw?

Racism.

Good News Gertie 09-14-2021 08:55 PM

Ethnicity is not the same as race.

Seanny One Ball 09-14-2021 08:57 PM

I’m black though

Good News Gertie 09-14-2021 08:59 PM

Ok?

Lock Jaw 09-14-2021 09:01 PM

Please don't destroy another thread

Thx

Seanny One Ball 09-14-2021 09:02 PM

She should be banned to be honest.

Seanny One Ball 09-14-2021 09:02 PM

If you read Mein Kampf it would just be the thank you’s.

That’s your level of understanding on any topic. Page 1.

Good News Gertie 09-14-2021 09:09 PM

What’re your comfort shows, Seanny? Or did you just cyber stalk me into this thread? :$

Seanny One Ball 09-14-2021 09:12 PM

Don’t clear your calendar just yet love

Tom Guycott 09-15-2021 01:07 AM

Firefly is the first thing that popped into my head.
Followed by Leverage.

Lock Jaw 09-15-2021 02:06 AM

I see Rhi added Curb Your Enthusiasm to the list.... good call... that is another one that I watch a lot of random YouTube clips of....

Shisen Kopf 09-15-2021 02:07 AM

I watch the YouTube channel Videos of Irish Farming Life. I highly recommend the video about churning in the olden days. Churning butter.

M-A-G 09-15-2021 02:22 AM

Joy of Painting. I mean, come on.

Yeah my list is pretty long depending on the sort of comfort I’m looking for. If things are REALLY bad I just watch Bridesmaids for the 104620270th time. :$

Have watched all of Peep Show and The Office more than three times.

drave 09-15-2021 02:24 PM

Don't watch much TV..... but comfort shows, when on are:

Roseanne
George Lopez
Two and A Half Men

Those are more what my wife enjoys. I tend to watch other shit, can be random.

Any of these for me personally (watching alone):

Star Trek TNG or Deep Space Nine
X-Files
Leverage
Sons of Anarchy

Jordan 09-15-2021 02:54 PM

Forensics Files and Midsomar Murders

drave 09-15-2021 03:33 PM

Have watched every episode of Forensic Files. Love that show because they don't bullshit. They get right through a case in 30 mins.

Forensic Files II is great.

This wins hands down, actually.

In fact, isn't it up on Netflix?

M-A-G 09-16-2021 02:19 AM

I wouldn't really bother. They're pretty much all on YouTube.

1) Apparently, it was on Netflix, but it isn't there anymore.

2) Youtube has become somewhat unreliable for comfort backgrounding anymore. At least for me, anyway. Things don't rabbithole like they used to, and anything that's a series generally doesn't continue to play: it will jump to other shit I've watched before of a completely different fashion.

Sepholio 09-16-2021 03:15 AM

I should be ashamed of myself for not mentioning Star Trek: TNG as well as DS9. I've probably watched those 2 series more than any other show ever. They used to live on my TV every morning when Spike (I think it was Spike), and then BBC, would have marathon mornings for them every day.

I don't use autoplay as a rule so I don't have to worry about the algorithm being a moron. Plus, nine times out of ten I'm knocked the fuck out before the video even ends so that's another problem off my plate.

LOLOLOL!!! I remember the Star Trek ad campaign on Spike. Specifically, with a character named "Jesse" and his manager. Shit cracks me up.

Specifically this one, all the way down to the god damn chair squeak. Still cracks me up today because I'm a child.
