BREAKING: Stephanie McMahon taking leave of absence from WWE

As of tomorrow, I am taking a leave of absence from the majority of my responsibilities at WWE. Hmmmm.

Playing nurse-maid to HHH?

I know he just went on TV to retire. But how's he been since?

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-19-2022 05:15 PM

She honestly might just need to take a break. Literally been working her whole life.

Ol Dirty Dastard 05-19-2022 05:16 PM

Wish she made this decision when her on-screen character neutered every talent they had, but hey, whatever.

slik 05-19-2022 05:19 PM

There is only one person who can take over for Stephanie McMahon in WWE

slik 05-19-2022 05:46 PM

This does feel like a demotion possibly....otherwise I feel like she wouldn't need to announce it publicly...I mean it has been reported that most of the corporate people who've been let go the last few rounds of layoffs were mostly HHH and Steph people...

screech 05-19-2022 06:21 PM

This coming after that Sasha/Naomi statement - a weird thing that they would normally never do - is interesting.

I assume this is so she can be Ric Flair's final opponent

Good.

Given that Stephanie married the one who took the most advantage of Owen Hart's fatal accident on May 23, 1999(this coming Monday being the 23rd year without Owen among the living, for those keeping track, by the way), she, by default, has a little bit of Owen's blood staining her hands too.

For me to respect her as a person, she needs to divorce Paul, and never communicate with him again. Those are the terms.

Until then, God damn her ass. Just disposable ReTrumpliKKKunt garbage anyway.

Then chop your cock off and shove it in your own asshole.

Have more class in life than getting that way for women's wrestlers.

RaginRonic, are you on any psychotropic medications? And I 100 percent agree with Seanny here on Stephanie's sex appeal. As far as her leaving, I really don't think it has anything with Triple H's health or anything but I really can't speculate on any of it. There could be a number of things that factor into it idk

Chlamydia is not that big of a deal, I've had it before it's not like it's something you're stuck with and have to treat it forever. If I had to choose a sexually transmitted disease to catch it would be chlamydia.

Steph obviously going to return with Sasha and Naomi in a modern take on the nWo angle.

I’m reminded of that time Destor schooled someone by pointing out that water isn’t wet — wet is the state something finds itself in after interacting with a liquid.

Mr. Nerfect 05-30-2022 06:22 PM

I wonder what would happen if Stephanie and Paul (and hell, maybe Shane) actually did decide to start a promotion for themselves.

I don’t THINK it will happen, lol. I’m not saying that. But imagine that crazy reality. It would probably have the infrastructure of NXT. I can imagine guys like Regal, Joe and The Armstrongs being given jobs. But would they go full NXT? That wouldn’t work outside the context of being WWE’s craft beer. You’d think they’d try to pluck major stars and might have an in to disgruntled WWE talent that have nowhere else to go. Mercedes Banks would probably end up there lol.

I dunno, it would be interesting.

Not my favorite. Underrated though. There’s a whole generation of OVW guys that got washed away by the WWE in the early/mid-2000’s. If you have time, go back and watch some of Basham’s OVW work. I highly recommend a 2/3 Falls Match he had with Nick Dinsmore.

I could spend hours listening to Cornette talk about the nightmares that came with having a working agreement with WWE. That story about Basham being his good-looking, long haired heel champion and just randomly coming back from WWE bald is amazing.

I saw a match from him from like 1997 or something. Maybe. That seems about right. He’s Danny Davis’ real nephew, so he trained him up before OVW was like a proper thing. By the time they really got started as a developmental territory in 1999/2000, he was kind of there to help the younger guys out and be a player for their TV because he wasn’t a complete rookie.

He could have been a pretty great heel for their mid-card in 2001/2002. Bring him in with Victoria and have him cause shit for Ric Flair because he’s got a privileged deal because of his “connections” or whatever. Flair brings in Damaja to kick his ass because he knows him so well. Would have been totally fine television.

Then he should have kayfabe started banging Stephanie McMahon and replaced Triple H as the top heel and been World Heavyweight Champion. WOOOO!

Vince wanted to write a storyline where he had an affair with Stephanie, so no it would not.

Sepholio 06-01-2022 10:43 AM

The affair was with Macho Man Randy Savage who it turns out never actually passed away. Not only did Randy steal HHHs girl, he took his job too and is now running NXT, which is why they went from black and gold to all the wild colors. Randy reveals he has been planning this ever since HHH tried to invade WCW with his DX cronies. This whole thing is actually what caused his cardiac event.

Yes but I feel like Vince these days who has mellowed out and seems more hesitant to do anything offensive with the things are now is a little bit different from the Vince of 15 years ago. I don't think he would have any problem doing an angle like that but I don't think he would do it if it really happened with Steph irl just for the fact that it would bring public humiliation and criticism to his publicly traded company. The Vince of like 15 or so years ago would most likely do it in a heartbeat without thinking twice

Do you think he’s mellowed? I just assumed he had someone explaining to him how the world has changed every time he comes up with something even mildly risqué.

Destor 06-01-2022 07:38 PM

Stephanie McMahon will probably only be back as a public ambassador for WWE role is my guess. I never would've guessed she'd be pushed out of the top of that company.

I actually had a convo with Seph that revolved around this--I'm pretty sure at this cutthroat level of corporate, it sometimes doesn't matter if you're good (or even excellent) at your job. Even in Steph's position. There's now a new directive and shareholders/board members who want things to be a certain way.

And honestly, from my limited perspective, it seems like they're trying to find every which way to increase profitability so they can sell at a premium. Doing so might be beyond Steph's capabilities, despite her being really great at what she does.

Plus, maybe saying "hundreds of millions" (if those reports are true) was political suicide as far as Steph holding onto her role goes. She over-promised and under-delivered, even if it was an ambitious goal.

We also don't know if that Vince story is true--but since it's BI reporting it instead of Uncle Dave, it raises some questions. That said, she'll be fine and likely remain comfortable in another prominent role (at least optically).

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-07-2022 11:39 AM

Another way to look at it is Steph has carried the ball to where they are, but it's as far as she can take it. Now it's time for an outsider, with broader corporate experience, to take profits and revenues completely over the top.

Destor 06-07-2022 03:53 PM

if you can clearly show there's 20mil/a thats actively being ignored your shareholders will revolt.

Is it actively being ignored or is it just being deemed not enough?

Ol Dirty Dastard 06-07-2022 05:15 PM

That’s a legit question btw I’m honestly not sure how this shiznit works.

Destor 06-07-2022 10:20 PM

maybe it is maybe it isnt but if party A can convince your holders it *is* party B is done. thats the isue. and yeah...you go to a bunch of suits and say "look at this comparable thing. theyre doing X. theyre making Y. we are refusing to do X so you are losing Y." well its not like the holders know shit about fuck about wrestling. they just see -$20mil/a.

Destor 06-07-2022 10:24 PM

id also like to say brand deals on gear and the like is a horrible idea in wrestling. youll make the roster bleed together in an age where standing out is far too difficult. you also have the issue of heels wearing brands and how their actions then reflect on the brand itself further diluting the products ability to be organic. there branding should be more like how theyve done it in puro. ads on the mat. on the buckle pads. hell guard rails. whatever. not the gear though.

Destor 06-07-2022 10:26 PM

and hypothetically if that was the proposal.. well id balk at it too

Destor 06-07-2022 10:26 PM

(thats speculative though)

XL 06-08-2022 03:54 AM

Ring/ringside sponsorship was where my head went. Putting it on talent’s gear could open up a big can of worms; it’s on my gear, what do I get? If sponsors don’t want their shit on heels, does that create a reluctance to turn?

I’m imaging some really obvious product placement. Like a guy going under the apron for a ladder and pulling out a Snickers, turning to camera and taking a big bite.

Yeah that was the problem—they weren’t allowed to get their own sponsors… they had to wear Reebok and lost out on tens of thousands of dollars.

I agree, it's also a huge risk on potentially losing sponsors and lots of money. For example, imagine JBL was wearing Nikes during that incident in Germany that caused so much controversy. It would instinctively force Nike to pull their sponsorship and others might follow suit and do the same thing because they don't want their brand associated with that

I'm guessing that's what you meant by the heels actions...

Destor 06-08-2022 12:02 PM

as an example sure. it could be anything of course. snitsky punting a baby into the 10th row. whatever

Destor 06-08-2022 12:03 PM

or just a guy being a bastard in general.

I long for the days where heels could be total racist, sexist, homophobic pieces of shit and people understood that they’re the bad guys and therefore SUPPOSED to be pieces of shit as opposed to being offended and calling for the show to be canceled simply because “words were said by a person”.

Granted, those racist, sexist, homophobic pieces of shit were faces much of the time in their day depending on the area, but still. Assholes aren’t allowed to actually be assholes even if the idea is to make you wanna see them get their ass kicked. Context is dead.

Where was I going with this?

Oh yeah… Check out the TPWW Classic Wrestling Watch-along every Thursday night starting at 8:30 EST!

Curt Hennig this week?

#1-norm-fan 06-08-2022 12:20 PM

Tomorrow night, baby!

We may even need to make it a two parter because trying to fit Hennig’s career into one night is a silly task. There are so many gems even in the relatively small bit of content that avoids WWE’s copyright.
