I'd say the Vegas odds on this show edging closer to 5 hours than 4 is probably about -220.
This is probably the very first PPV for AEW where there are SO many matchups that I don't care at all about. My interest is really only peaked for Page/Punk, Anarchy in the Arena, MJF/Wardlow, and I'm halfway interested in Bucks/Hardys, Tag Team Championship triangle match and The House of Black against Death Triangle.
If those slap it will a good show. Of course the other matches can and will likely deliver too it's just there are so many that I can't care about. I get wanting to have Darby and O'Reilly on the show but it's packed man, wtf do we need that here for? Put it on Dynamite. Set it up in an angle on the PPV to get them their checks. Tony spoke about the NBA game playing at the same time and he's going to time out the show so that NBA fans won't miss the main event. So stupid. |
I don't know why this is my first thought when looking at this card but I hope Men of the Year do something that doesn't involve Sammy Guevara after this.
I hope Hangman holds Tiny up for about $5 million or refuses to lose to a broken down fraud.

But honestly, before Revolution they had 3 pre-show matches. Darby and KOR as the pre-show "main event" feels totally workable, let them fly at each other for 15 minutes and call it a day. Don't see the need to shoehorn it onto here. Don't really get Jade/Anna as a main show match either. We know Jade is winning, she's already beaten Anna before. As happy in the pants Anna makes me I don't need to see it again. |
AEW PPVs always deliver, and looking at the card I see a handful of matches that should be good to great. I'm not even that put off by AEW PPVs being long because they only do 4 a year, so it makes sense to me.
But that still doesn't mean you need to shoehorn people onto the main card either. I guess it was either this or another one of those clusterfuck Casino matches. Ah well. |
Wonder if anyone from NJPW will be turning up to set up a Forbidden Door match.
I still have an inkling that a lot of that card will be multi-man tags like a normal NJPW show. If we get more than one marquee singles match we'll be lucky. |
Haven't watched AEW in a while but this card sounds l
Loaded...I think I need to catch up on Dynamite and check this PPV out |
least excited i've been for an AEW ppv!
I don’t like how many last minute matches they’ve plugged in.
Paige v Punk Men of the year/Sammy/Tay/Frankie Tag title match Owen tourney finals Women’s title HookHausen v Neese and Sterling House of black v death triangle That should be the main show as those have been the longest running angles. And I’d argue The house of Black Death triangle has gone on way too long. The Sammy v Scorpio has went on too long too but now they’re at least blowing off the Tay v Van Zant mini feud it created. I still think the card will deliver bell to bell but it feels really bloated for no reason other than get guys a ppv pay day. Most of those extra matches don’t even need to be on the pre snow to be honest. Here’s hoping Joe and Ruby come out on top of the tourney. Ruby needs a big win as her character has been a failure in that regard after losing two title matches in a year. Cole isn’t doing much for me and I think the winner of the tourney should get a world title shot, and Joe v Punk has way more appeal to me than Punk v Cole. |
Oh and the anarchy in the arena match is fine but idk what BBC is doing in there.
You forgot MJF-Wardlow
There’s 6 matches I’m very excited about, and then a lot of stuff I don’t care about or don’t care for. Completely burnt out on Adam Cole. Starting to get there with Britt Baker as well. Don’t care about the Sammy/Men of the Year feud. I like Darby and O’Reilly but that shld be on the pre show. Same with Jade and Anna. Hardys/Bucks seems way too rushed for a dream match.
That being said, I am jacked to the tits for the matches I am looking forward to. And AEW has yet to do a bad ppv. So I hope all the good stuff isn’t weighed down by the bloat. |

I don't dislike Cole and was jazzed to see him in AEW. He's a good hand and there's a place for him. But he just doesn't seem worth the amount of exposure they've given him. As a character he's always been exactly the same guy. ROH Cole is the same as NJPW Cole is the same as NXT Cole. Doesn't seem to have the range to be anything other than a smarmy heel. That they're actively rehashing Undisputed Era just adds to the optics that he's not really brought anything new to the table. |
The lone benefit to Undisputed Era being in AEW was to set up the eventual match with Omega and The Bucks. Last winter I really thought DoN would be the time for it but didn't realize the real extent of Omega's injuries. I assume that program will eventually happen but now not til All Out or Full Gear.
So my fear now is that they'll stall for time with Cole by having him and another overexposed character in Baker win the Owen trophies and be an annoying power couple. If they feud with Sammy and Tay it might be the first time I actively change the channel during an AEW segment. |
Cole ever being a “world” champion was ridiculous. The best use for him was to take advantage the bit of credibility that flub in NXT gave him by jobbing him to the champ as soon as possible and then move him down to the midcard. Joe should beat him handily.
I wouldn’t have a problem with Britt winning though.
Adam Cole > CM Phil

Lol, the world won’t be watching. Card looks awful. AEW doesn’t matter. Who could possibly honestly care about this shit?
Looking forward to this PPV!
Apparently, MJF went MIA for a fan meet and greet. Sheeeeit.
I wonder if MJF is going to Warrior style hold up Tony and Tony will secretly be marking out that he's being held up by "the greatest heel in the business today, maybe ever!"
Apparently AEW was charging $100 for the meet and greet, while paying MJF peanuts compared to all of Tiny's favorite ex WWEers.
Apparently, Samoa Joe became Samoa No Show, as well.

wtf
He’s got you guys.
Unless this isn’t a work and colour me shocked. |
MJF vs Wardlow is the big money match for me at Double or Nothing
I'm sort of interested in Punk/Hangman but this was really a one-match show for me... |
Will give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe it's a family emergency until more info is known
No chance it’s a family emergency.
I’ll tell you this. I’m amped to watch tomorrow night now when I really wasn’t.

MJF easily the best part of AEW so would suck dick if he's gonna be gone... would be awful in WWE
Also seems dumb to burn a bridge with AEW if he's after a big contract offer from WWE... if AEW is out of the picture, WWE can low ball him Guess he was so pissed at something that he didn't care |

Ok so looks like I was probably wrong....this may have been a big mistake by MJF unless there was an emergency or some other legitimate reason for him no showing
I feel bad for Wardlow if MJF isn't at the ppv...
I guess now there's more concern about him no showing the ppv because he is booked a flight out of Las Vegas for tonight!

they should add wardlow to punk/hangman and belt him
The one thing that makes me think is Cody Rhodes being in WWE now.
HMMMMMMMMM |
Trouble in paradise. Love this stuff. Makes me very nostalgic.

Paul Wight was ready to tape his fists

Glad he didn’t fly home.
Shits wild.
The poor guy who loses if all of this goes tits up is Wardlow. |
Tony Khan should dress Luther up as MJF and just have commentary pretend he's always been MJF this whole time
I’d love that.
Interesting. If this is what it looks like, can’t wait for the same people calling Ali and Naomi/Sasha “unprofessional” to be professing how smart MJF is.
He isn’t smart if he’s walked out. He’s been one of the best booked wrestlers on the roster and is constantly featured while also wrestling very little. I can’t remember his last match after the ppv street fight with Punk.
It’s been mentioned before his size prob hinders him greatly in WWE, as does their cookie cutter approach to how they book heels and script promos. He’d suck there simply because everything that makes him great gets taken away. Not to mention the apathetic crowds. Hot crowds are part of what makes his segments so good and he isn’t likely to generate that kind of heat in WWE as a watered down wish app version of himself. Not to mention, as previously stated, he loses all leverage in negotiating a deal of he walks away or burned bridges with AEW. He’d be an idiot to tank his biggest bargaining chip. There’s no other promotion that’s going to pay him at the level AEW or WWE can and he’d get far less exposure. I’m very interested in what the issue. I can’t imagine it’s booking. Other than the ill advised Jericho feud, he’s been booked almost to perfection and he’s about to blow off another big storyline that’s been building for years now. And make a guy while still maintaining his top spot as #1 heel. I also have little doubt he isn’t going to be the guy who ends the seemingly inevitable Punk reign that’s prob starting tomorrow. Maybe he didn’t wanna lose his 3rd ppv match in the last 4? Maybe he doesn’t wanna put over Wardlow? Maybe it’s a squash match and he’s not for that. Or maybe it’s just money. Nonetheless what a dire situation Tony has found himself in. |

I'm drawing here but it does seem like Cody could have been the leader that MJF would've followed to some degree in AEW. Since Cody has left, MJF has been expressing this unhappiness. I wonder if the lack of Cody is partially to blame for this MJF explosion.
I am so intrigued by this. Like wtf is happening?
Rooting for MJF tbh. |
The scene in my mind playing out has the under current of MJF's financial desires and challenges from Tony. But also I can see he shows up and learns that he's going to get powerbombed 15 times and pinned and was like "fuck no I'm not". He has a pretty poor PPV record if I recall and I could see him not wanting to take a clean L. Or at least wants to do an ending that keeps the program moving.
Yeah im thinking he may not have wanted to get wrecked at the ppv given how much he’s jobbed. Which is fair given he’s supposedly a pillar.
I could take a fuck finish with MJF going over Wardlow. The story could continue, I can see a case for that, I'd certainly listen to the argument. But more people will say it's time to pull the trigger on Wardlow and let him fly. Ultimately you can do that, and still continue the angle if you'd like.
If it's all a work, it's working! AEW's hardcore fanbase are nerds like us who still post on forums! We are living for this shit right now, we have tubes in our throats feeding it to us like baby on Mothers milk! If this whole MJF dissention was a work, what a job it is.
I've said this before in the other thread that MJF will no doubt end up in WWE some day and unfortunately I see it happening sooner rather than later especially if this is legit not a work which I'm now guessing it is real. He clearly wants to go to WWE and get a huge contract or use that as a bargaining chip so AEW pays him a lot more...right now I believe it's about wherever the money is but regardless if he gets what he wants from AEW, he will still land in WWE at some point in his career
he will be nothing in WWE. He's "too small" and definitely not gifted like WWE's small people (Danielson, ummmmm..... Balor, probably others)
Yeah especially now...his character would have been a great fit back in the day in like the ruthless aggression era when Vince started to see the smaller guys has more prominent i.e. Benoit winning the world title etc.
Uncle Dave said something about MJF wanting to be Brian Pillman.

Crippla--you seem to think I don't and haven't watched wrestling at all in my life with your need to explain obvious, implicit details to me.
Unlike WWE where there was zero doubt in my mind that Sasha/Naomi was legit... there is a lot of doubt in my mind about this MJF thing because it seems like something they would plausibly do, even with "pissing off" fans going to the meet and greet and having to give refunds
If Tony Khan is hoarding all the profits and not paying his best wrestlers their fair share, then I can’t in good conscience give Tony additional money by purchasing tonight’s pay per view.
So if anyone could please provide an illegal streaming service, I will watch tonight’s show in solidarity with the workers. ✊🏼 Thank you. |
This isnt a good look regardless of if it is a work or not. If its not, then MJF looks unprofessional and AEW looks incompetent for allowing the relationship with one of their best talents to reach that point.
If its a work, I'd say its even worse. Both MJF and AEW look unprofessional for not delivering on what the fans paid for. And for what? Its already the most anticipated match on the card. MJF is already the most despised heel and Wardlow is the most over babyface. So what would this even accomplish besides betraying the trust of your fans? |
Quote:
And that was just a general thought, it wasn't even directed at you specifically. I've read your posts, I am aware you are very knowledgeable when it comes to wrestling so I really don't understand where that train of thought comes from...
AEW still promoting the match as of this morning and I haven’t seen anything that says mjf flew out Vegas. I do think he’d be justified in not wanting to show up and get squashed. But he should absolutely lose.
Quote:
But if it is a work, there's no way they won't follow through with the match. If they intentionally have him not show up first match with Wardlow and that decision would be beyond retarded
how hard is noid right now scale of 1-10

Did someone mention they were up against the NBA finals? Is this just a way to build intrigue?

It would be pretty funny if MJF no shows and they have Wardlow “go get him”
Obvious solution for this; Swap MJF’s contract for Sasha & Naomi’s.
Damn wanted to watch this PPV but I have to watch game 7 tonight! My C's need me!
wait this MJF drama isn't gonna get you to tune in anyway???

I wouldn’t say I’m hard, rtd. It’s frustrating and annoying that it has to get to this point because TK is such a douchebag. MJF wants to go to the big leagues before next year because he’s not a mark.
I predicted DON might be the last time we see MJF. Maybe we don’t even get him there.
I’ll post it in the other thread, but now even Meltzer and Alvarez are saying talent wants to get the fuck out of there. Meltzer is not going to report stories that makes AEW look bad if he can avoid it.
I wonder if CM Punk is going to stand by his coworkers on this one?
Lol, AEW fans are rejoicing that the Samoa Joe no-show story was a miscommunication issue like a miscommunication issue isn’t fucking embarrassing.
Just in time for the executives to appraise AEW too.
MJF is definitely working everyone.
Hangman will retain against Punk tonight. |
Who do you think they get to replace MJF? I’m thinking it will be Shawn Spears and Matt Cardona. You always know that Cardona is just around a corner waiting for a shot.

Yeah, for whatever reason, I don’t expect player/coach to stand up for the player here.
