Per WWE corporate site

Vince McMahon today released the following statement:

“As I approach 77 years old, I feel it’s time for me to retire as Chairman and CEO of WWE. Throughout the years, it’s been a privilege to help WWE bring you joy, inspire you, thrill you, surprise you, and always entertain you. I would like to thank my family for mightily contributing to our success, and I would also like to thank all of our past and present Superstars and employees for their dedication and passion for our brand. Most importantly, I would like to thank our fans for allowing us into your homes every week and being your choice of entertainment. I hold the deepest appreciation and admiration for our generations of fans all over the world who have liked, currently like, and sometimes even love our form of Sports Entertainment.

“Our global audience can take comfort in knowing WWE will continue to entertain you with the same fervor, dedication, and passion as always. I am extremely confident in the continued success of WWE, and I leave our company in the capable hands of an extraordinary group of Superstars, employees, and executives – in particular, both Chairwoman and Co-CEO Stephanie McMahon and Co-CEO Nick Khan. As the majority shareholder, I will continue to support WWE in any way I can. My personal thanks to our community and business partners, shareholders, and Board of Directors for their guidance and support through the years. Then. Now. Forever. Together.”

CAN'T IMAGINE WHY

Sepholio 07-22-2022 05:23 PM

well im watching SD tonight now

XL 07-22-2022 05:24 PM

I am surprised.

Damian Rey 2.0 07-22-2022 05:24 PM

SURELY NOT DUE TO THE INVESTIGATION!

Hopefully this means a huge facelift for the company. Lemme see what Triple H can do.

DaveWadding 07-22-2022 05:25 PM

Waiting for Vince to change his name to just "McMahon" so no one can Google and find out about the allegations.

Danny Electric 07-22-2022 05:31 PM

HHH to come out next NXT 2.0 and talk about an evolution and get Roddy Strong to pin Bron Breaker in 10 seconds.

Danny Electric 07-22-2022 05:31 PM

Bray Wyatt will be on Smackdown later walking to the ring with Vince’s head as a lantern.

Stu Hart 07-22-2022 05:32 PM

from "fuck em!" to "im retiring"..I guess something has been uncovered.

erickman 07-22-2022 05:39 PM

Saved The Board the trouble of just tossing him.

What a moment! It's finally come! Thank you Vince for everything! I hope he see's my post!

Danny Electric 07-22-2022 06:07 PM

Some reports that Brock has left Smackdown now. Should be fun to watch tonight.

Destor 07-22-2022 06:10 PM

Not good for the stock or the product. You now have non carnies running all of wrestling. This mightbe the moment wrestling dies. In 15 years looking back on this might be it.

Mr. Nerfect 07-22-2022 06:16 PM

It’s actually fucking happened. Wow.

Mr. Nerfect 07-22-2022 06:17 PM

“Co-CEO.” We’ll see how that works.

Evil Vito 07-22-2022 06:18 PM

Brock reportedly walked out saying he has no interest in working for anyone but Vince

Oh boy

slik 07-22-2022 06:24 PM

Really happy for Stephanie McMahon.

Hope order of business #1 is Kevin Dunn 'moving on' next. I also think many ideas in general Vince would say 'no' to Steph would say 'yes'....she's more fan cognizant than her father ever was.

Mr. Nerfect 07-22-2022 06:24 PM

We’ll see.

They’re not fans of Kevin Dunn. It would not surprise me to see him offered a nice severance package and sent off into the sunset with Michael Cole or someone else taking over.

His profile is too high. If he was more on the outskirts like he was when the company was private and even its early days of public, it'd have been swept under the rug like the rest of them.

Splaya 07-22-2022 06:46 PM

Lots of interesting things coming out of this.

Brock probably done for good.

Smackdown should see instant change. There is no one to rip up storylines 30 minutes before showtime. Tonight and RAW just became must see.

Nerfect, I know you are gonna say this won't change the product, but if he is truly gone, then this will be the make or break for the company. HHH and Stephanie in charge, I do believe will fully change the game.

Mr. Nerfect 07-22-2022 06:47 PM

If Brock does leave, this creates a huge opening for someone to offer him big dollars to go somewhere and make a bit of a splash. I can see Vince calling Brock and smoothing things over though. He wants his stock to remain high.

The idea of Vince starting his own promotion with Brock as his major attraction out the gate is surreal though.

Danny Electric 07-22-2022 06:48 PM

Supposedly been confirmed by an insider that Brock has left.

Sepholio 07-22-2022 06:48 PM

Someone get Oldberg on the line, we need a short term fix for SS.

Danny Electric 07-22-2022 06:48 PM

Also Maximum Male Models gonna come out and take out Reigns.

Montez Ford wins battle royal, has a great match at SummerSlam with Roman

Oh no, I can definitely see it changing things. It could be an obstacle if it throws everything out of orbit and we just didn’t know how much Vince kept things steady. Losing Brock isn’t good. But it could lead to fresh ideas that do progress things being implemented too. If Stephanie and Triple H want to push things in that direction or whether they actually subscribe to the idea that WWE was doing just splendid remains to be seen though.

It’s very fucking interesting, I’ll give you that.

Sepholio 07-22-2022 06:50 PM

No way Brock shows up somewhere else. His contract will be frozen so damn fast if he bailed.

Mr. Nerfect 07-22-2022 06:51 PM

Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins would probably be the easiest thing to piece together. Unless they want to freshen things up and go in an entirely new direction. I can think of one man who is ready, willing and GABLE.

It depends what his deal is, how long it is and how determined he is to fight it.

Splaya 07-22-2022 06:52 PM

Brock just recently signed that new deal too. If he's truly walking out like Austin, his career is over.

RaginRonic 07-22-2022 06:53 PM

Vince McMahon FINALLY fucking off!

Kevin Dunn likely cooked too.

John Laurinaitis probably gone and done.

Same for Bruce Prichard.

Only one way to celebrate the airing out of the WWE corporate offices today.

From my favorite band, who are from Stockholm, Sweden.

Joey Tempest on vocals, John Norum & Kee Marcello on guitar, John Leven on bass, Mic Michaeli on keyboards, and Ian Haugland on drums, from a Nov. 1986 video shoot at the Hard Rock Cafe in Stockholm...that is EUROPE, who may soon be about to go into the studio for their 12th all-time album later this year.

=)

Mr. Nerfect 07-22-2022 06:53 PM

Remember when Brock first returned and Triple H had to spray his stink all over him in that three match series that included beating him at WrestleMania? Maybe that wasn’t such a good idea.

Mr. Nerfect 07-22-2022 06:54 PM

Does Jeff Jarrett find his way into the main event of SummerSlam? Nashville needs a hero, baby.

I think both HHH and Stephanie are going to change this for the good. They almost have to. For the longest Time, the IWC has wanted HHH in charge. And he's not dumb he knows that. So I can't see them messing things up. Things are going to get edgier. I have no doubt TV 14 is still coming back. Vince doesnt have any ideas on how to do that shit. But HHH and Stephanie.....they have all the power now. 6 months from now, we will look back and see that they either succeeded or failed. If they succeed, it's the best thing for business.

If anyone should be nervous, it is Tony Khan. With Vince in power it was easy just to write storylines and let wrestlers do their thing. But now with HHH and Stephanie in power...that changes so much.

Sepholio 07-22-2022 06:57 PM

Gonna laugh when Vince walks out on Dynamite and is announced as the new owner of AEW.

Evil Vito 07-22-2022 06:57 PM

Per Fightful, talent believe Kevin Dunn will be leaving shortly as well

Damn, I would go out of my way to tune in to the first Dunn-free show just to see if the camerawork makes me nauseous

Supreme Olajuwon 07-22-2022 06:59 PM

Triple H will make decisions based on his vanity too. He also had no clue Guardians of the Galaxy was going to be huge. I would love to be optimistic, but it depends where he puts his ego. If he wants to make the WWE “better” and “more popular,” then he and Stephanie could make some very pleasing moves. If he wants to make it in his true vision? It remains to be seen what that actually is.

I’m not sure TV-14 is the way forward. And I’m not sure I trust Triple H to be cutting edge like that. I didn’t think he was that good at it way back when he was in his 30’s.

But they are possibly more open to some creative business strategies. Could they swoop in and make a deal with New Japan? Could they even reach out to AEW about doing cross-promotion? Who knows? This could all be reversed in a week and be a ploy by Vince to get the board to beg him to stay on, lol. As you said, we’ll know better what this looks like in 6 months.

Evil Vito 07-22-2022 07:05 PM

Somehow this ends with Vince McMahon vs. The Rock in the 2024 Presidential Election.

Mr. Nerfect 07-22-2022 07:07 PM

They’ve made Roman vs. Brock more interesting if they can ever get it again.

Part of me thinks that’s the plan. I don’t trust Vince is completely on-board with this, and may have done this prior to SummerSlam as a bit of a power play. Either that or something huge is about to come out and they just couldn’t wait.

Raw is in MSG this week. He could have waited to do it there, or maybe he wants that to be where he says a public goodbye?

What’s the leverage other than the company value tanking? It was my understanding he’s got too much power to be forced out. It would only be if he voluntarily resigned.

Supreme Olajuwon 07-22-2022 07:17 PM

I guess he did announce this right before the market closed for the weekend so I’m guessing company value was the leverage

Supreme Olajuwon 07-22-2022 07:18 PM

But that would mean Vince voluntarily retired because he thought he was a detriment to the company. Which is crazy to think about.

Sepholio 07-22-2022 07:19 PM

Maybe at 77 years old Vince just doesn't want the smoke.

XL 07-22-2022 07:26 PM

They’re lucky they’ve built up so many guys to slot into the Main Event to replace Brock.

DaveWadding 07-22-2022 07:32 PM

I wonder how they open up Smackdown. Have to make some sort of mention on it

Mr. Nerfect 07-22-2022 07:57 PM

Something to keep in mind about Triple H/NXT: It was designed to target a specific audience. It was a vanity project for the WWE Network. Just because Triple H went with Kevin Owens, Finn Balor and Adam Cole in NXT doesn’t mean he’s going to have the same gameplay for 3 hours of Raw on USA, 2 hours of SmackDown on FOX.

He might treat them better. If that’s even a good thing. Look at what Adam Cole has turned into. But I wouldn’t expect NXT to turn back into NXT let alone Raw or SmackDown to do that. But hey, if he wants to get himself over, maybe a bit of “fan service” is the way they’ll go?

It would be interesting if they at least tried to give Raw and SmackDown different vibes. Hell, we might even see WWE’s extensive trademark library mined if Vince isn’t going to be opposing overall direction.

erickman 07-22-2022 08:07 PM

so when does jb take Kevin dunns spot

Splaya 07-22-2022 08:08 PM

If they truly want to make SD and RAW separate, lead the build up to Survivor Series and have it mean something.

Do another draft after Survivor Series. Let the "winning brand" get like the first three picks or something.

They have the potential to spice it up. Make things really interesting. Eliminate the Hell in the Cell PPV. Let it be what it was designed for, a feud ender but not a PPV.

I wonder if she’ll call WWE a “safe space”.

Damian Rey 2.0 07-22-2022 08:42 PM

I’m not gonna lie gentlemen, I’m excited for WWE again. I want to see where they go with this. It’s an opportunity to finally move the company forward with a different and fresh vision.

Nick Kahn is going to be running things, not like...Jim Cornette or something. He's going to lean on the likes of HHH and Steph for the on-air stuff if he doesn't just try to clean house and make them nothing more than figureheads that can keep talent in line.

Whatever direction the company has been going in over the last few years ("Reigns and whoever, they're all interchangeable") its going to keep moving in that direction unless Khan has been completely handcuffed this whole time.

Hey look, someone who gets whats going on

Bad News Gertner 07-22-2022 09:26 PM

Nick Khan is gonna try to set up a residency in Vegas for Raw

Mr. Nerfect 07-22-2022 09:27 PM

I’m pretty sure Drew is winning the belts in the UK. It seems insane to me to put him in that situation just to lose. I don’t necessarily think he’s heading into Mania with them, but I can’t see him not winning. They might try to tie it into some publicity with Tyson Fury being special guest enforcer to make sure The Usos can’t get involved.

I don’t think the overall picture will change much, but nor do I think it should.

I’m surprised they haven’t set up something more of a tourist attraction in Florida yet.

lol @ anyone who thinks WWE changes because of this. WWE is in the business of making money; they aren't going to change a damn thing until they quit raking in the dough at record pace.

I dunno, there is wriggle room there for people to play with. Of course they’re going to want to make as much money as possible, but there can be competing ideas on how that is best achieved.

Change isn’t guaranteed at all. But it isn’t impossible either. New merchandising deals can be struck up, trademarks brought back to monetize. In the context of content, they might decide to try and put on more urgent shows instead of sitting in a low gear to be evergreen. They might value using their history more to promote their present (for example, something as simple as showing Edge & Rey winning the Tag Titles to promote them facing Judgment Day, if that’s the plan).

The new regime might have the energy and desire to put some effort into putting their own stamp on things — at least for a while — even if they are largely likely to keep a steady hand with most things.

Mr. Nerfect 07-22-2022 09:49 PM

Lately I’ve been thinking of the contemporary nature of content. In some ways, the past is as accessible to the youth of today as live entertainment. When it comes to moving away from PPV to streaming, I think a mistake some people make is thinking that the lower price point for the Network takes pressure off the shows. Whereas it could be the case that in years time, people will look back on what’s happening now and hold that sleepwalking against the company. Even if the WWE is alive and thriving, podcasts will be made about how barren this period is, with people daring themselves to watch it. WWE is so far ahead when it comes to modern delivery of their product. Vince was, frankly, brilliant to move over to the WWE Network and then lease it out. But I’m not sure anyone has really got a handle on how well content is or isn’t going to age, and how that is going to affect perception of the live product in a few years time.
