***THE OFFICIAL STREET FIGHTER 6 THREAD***
I still don't have a Playstation 5 so I'm probably going to miss out on the early access when it drops this summer, but it still looks good. The Cammy design is fucking sweet and Zangief busting out a Jackhammer puts a smile on my face.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/F2347gyZp0U" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/B4qAARQdHO4" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bGuVJXwENQk" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> What is even the story? I didn't really find the narratives of 4 and 5 to be particularly interesting, and a lot of characters didn't really seem to serve a purpose as a result. What's everyone's take so far? Also, close and/or delete this if there was already a thread for this. |
I actually wanted to make a thread on this but just never got around to it. Really excited by what I've seen so far.
Marked out hard for cammy having that move from the animated movie. Going to have to learn stick to play this. |

I think I'm going to main Cammy this time around, unless there ends up being a character like Falke from Street Fighter V where they're easy to control.
|
Going back to Juri for sure since she's getting sf4 stuff back. The gladiator chick looks cool too.

Juri was my secondary in Street Fighter 4. She was wild and chaotic and wasn't a complete chore to learn. They changed too much with her in Street Fighter 5 for me to bother. I did like how her Pinwheel Kick was changed to be more anti-air, though. I probably could have tried harder to learn her, or anyone else for that matter, but once I got the hang of Falke, I didn't see the need. If they get her back to what she was like in the fourth game, I'll likely give her a go. If nothing else, she's always a great design for clothing.
https://i.imgur.com/lMWVopg.jpg Of course, the new characters are also tempting. Like you pointed out, Marisa looks cool. It's like they saw Rhonda Rousey and said, "Could be beefier". Not sure how intimidating a dude called JP is going to be though, but it's good how we're getting more than just 4 new characters from the beginning. |
Might be foolish optimism, but I'm still hoping the last 4 characters from the leak are in the game as hidden characters, or even this game's equivalent of the 4 kings.

From wikipedia:
_________________________________________________________ Street Fighter 6 features three overarching game modes: Fighting Ground, World Tour, and Battle Hub.[1] Fighting Ground contains local and online versus battles as well as training and arcade modes, all featuring similar 2D fighting gameplay to the previous games in the series, in which two fighters use a variety of attacks and special abilities to knock out their opponent. World Tour is a single-player story mode featuring a customizable player avatar exploring 3D environments with action-adventure gameplay. Battle Hub acts as an online lobby mode, using customizable player avatars from the World Tour mode, with other features set to be revealed in the future.[1] The main fighting gameplay of Street Fighter 6 is based around the Drive Gauge, a system designed to encourage player creativity. The gauge can be used for five different techniques, requiring players to choose which to prioritize. Most of the Drive Gauge's mechanics are based on previously existing mechanics from previous Street Fighter mainline games, such as Parry, Focus Attack, EX move, etc.[1] The game features three control types: the "classic" control scheme has a six-button layout that functions similarly to previous entries, the "modern" control scheme assigns special moves to a single button combined with a directional input,[1] and the "dynamic" control scheme, which is only allowed in certain parts in the Fighting Ground mode, but is not allowed in online battles, uses a single button auto attack layout, based on what range is performed. The use of multiple super combos returns from the Street Fighter Alpha sub-series, also counting the Ultra Combo W variant from Ultra Street Fighter IV. However, each character only has three super combos based on their respective level gauge. For example, Ryu's Shinku Hadoken, Shin Hashogeki and Shin Shoryuken can only be used at Level 1, 2 and 3 respectively.[2] A real-time commentary system is a brand new feature in Street Fighter 6, where English and/or Japanese play-by-play and color commentators watch the action in real-time, giving it a more tournament-style feel. ______________________________________________________ It's always struck me how fighting games continue to come up with new things but I never would have thought we'd approach open world-esque gameplay |

The roster as it stands now. 16 was the same amount as Street Fighter 5, but with more new characters:
Blanka Cammy Chun-Li Dee Jay Dhalsim E. Honda Guile Jamie JP Juri Ken Kimberly Lily Luke Manon Marisa Ryu Zangief Dee Jay making a comeback is a surprise. I'm going to be a bit of a buzzkill here as I've never really put much importance on having the "original" 8. |
The game looks outstanding. I love zangief has more of an Eddie Hall physique instead of his usual bodybuilder look. And two grapplers at launch is also dope. I lean toward either zoners or command grabs so it looks like I'll have a ton of options

Well, seeing as this is going to end up on the Playstation 4 after all, it'd probably be for the best that I just pick it up for that console instead of dropping 600 on a Playstation 5. I'm sure it'll be scaled back in some way, but, whatever.

I propose that the first 8 TPWWers who pick up the game immediately get online for a tournament against each other without prior play experience just for shits and giggles.
|
I play winner.
|
I was thinking about this and tekken and with mk12 coming out this yeah i dunno if ill pick up either of these. My backlog is absurd and i definitely cant manage multiple fighting games at the same time.
I think though all 3 will be the only games of this gen from these franchises. The live service model makes a ton of sense for sports/fighting games. One frequently updated game across a consoles life span seems like the best way to go. We might see all the major titles dropping in the same year going forward. Seems possible at the least. |

I guess now is as good a time as any to talk about the sick beats coming from this game. I don't know how memorable these themes will be down the road, but I appreciate them doing something different from re-doing the same stuff from Street Fighter 2.

I feel like they could have kept more of the original themes in there while still making it sound fresh with the urban beats tone.
As it is, the music is good but not particularly memorable. |

Looks and sounds good and all, but I doubt I'd be getting into the World Tour mode. Having easier ways to pull off special moves is very appealing to a dumbass like me. |

On the plus side, Juri's theme is MUCH better than what she got in Street Fighter 5. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_TcaWC551bw" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
It's better, but her first theme is probably one of the best tracks to come out after sf2. Like, top 3.

Any time a fighting game series adds easy controls, someone says that.
It literally never happens. |
Simple Controls can't teach fundamentals.

I'm just imagining players like Justin Wong or Daigo at EVO being all, "Oh, shit, the controls are EASIER?!?! I am so FUCKED!!!!"
|
The EO (easy option) controls for Capcom vs. SNK 2 were the only reason why I was able to beat and unlock Shin Akuma and Ultimate Regal on the Gamecube.
Forgot which of the two were the hardest but even with EO controls both were still a big hassle to beat even on easy or normal difficulty. |
Played some guy who was clearly using easy controls.
Playing a fighting game online for the first time in three years, without any time to practice and see how juri plays, while using a stick for the first time, and all that with a disabilty in my dominant hand. Still went 5-1 with classic controls. |
Jamie is an absolute blast to play. Didn't get 10 seconds into training before someone challenged me. Lost the first match pretty quick, but figured him out enough to beat my opponent the next few matches.
He basically gets more options and stronger attacks the drunker he gets. So fun. Tried kimberly but wasn't really feeling her. I wish they would have had a proper training mode for this but I'm guessing they wanted as many people as possible in the battle hub for stress testing. Still getting used to the arcade stick. Gonna take time. |
This is a very well made fighting game with very honest gameplay. The focus on neutral reminds me of SFxT, and I do well in games where good neutral gameplay rewards you.
Sad Cammy isn't playable but Ken is treating me well. |

Chun-Li certainly feels like Chun-Li. Has some weird new stance though. Gotta experiment with it more to get a better handle on its usefulness.
Can't wait to really dive in to this game. Feels sooooo good even with my shitty awkward stick gameplay. |

We've all wanted to experiment with Chun-Li....:shifty:
I've never been comfortable with arcade sticks, but I think I'm making the right call getting this for a Playstation as opposed to the Xbox. The controller feels better for fighting games, I think. Well, maybe just for Street Fighter because I had no problems with Mortal Kombat 9 or Mortal Kombat X on the Xbox consoles. |
Xbox has the best controller for shooters imo, but dualshock always felt better for fighting games.
A large portion of my time playing Tekken was at the arcade, so I feel very at home playing it with a stick. 2d fighters are a completely different beast and I'm going to be flailing about for a while until I get the muscle memory. |

Yeah the new patch speeding up the process for unlocking alts is very good but still insane at him needing 18 hours just to unlock 1 alt because he played his first playthrough normally and wasn't purposely fishing for alt unlocks.
Like Smash Bros had some very grindy requirements to unlock certain people from Brawl and onwards but they had the courtesy of giving multiple options to do so that were not as grindy without needing a patch to help out. |
