I'm all for it as long as they've got a better script for the character this time around.

Already looks more interesting/entertaining than the first Captain Marvel movie, perhaps due to less Captain Marvel and more other Marvels.
Nice. Dig the swapping gimmick, closest to MvC in live action we'll ever get.
Kalyx all about swapping

We swing baby.

It has more personality already. Hopefully Kahn can breathe life into the project

The choice of music is a bit on the nose, but then again so was "Just a Girl" in the first one. I'm just glad to finally see something from this project other than more news about delays.
Looks like the same current Marvel trash they've been pumping out for the last 4 or so years. I couldn't care less

Don’t think I’ll be catching this in the cinema. Should have been a Disney+ show.

Well any hope of Moonstone being in this as I had hoped (the heroes are fighting a blonde person at the end of the teaser) got dashed as apparently it's just some rando Kree. Unless they want to do some kind of swerve or whatever.
A few things that I hope they feature because I think they need to be addressed: 1. There needs to be some kind of interaction between Carol and Maria during the latter's ordeal with her cancer. I liked their relationship in the first film and it could be a huge opportunity for some emotional bits. 2. I'd like to see how Monica's attitude towards Carol has changed, if at all, after all the events in the time since Carol left. Is she resentful? Angry? 3. If they can wiggle in some of the style that was present in the first episode of Ms. Marvel that'd be a neat callback and give Kamala a distinct identity. |
Looks fun! I've enjoyed all the Marvel stuff, even She-Hulk! I totally don't get the hatred for Captain Marvel/Brie Larson... whatever. This looks enjoyable.

They tricked us into thinking it was going to be great. Loki and Falcon and the Winter Soldier were way too good for this shit. I haven’t even watched the new Ant Man and he was the best one left. I just ain’t interested. I will say that the new baddie turning out to be a monster IRL is pretty fucking funny considering how focused the brand has been on all the woke shit. |

Captain America fought actual Nazis and went on to have a black partner.
Carol Danvers was at the forefront of equality between the sexes. The X-Men were an allegory for persecution. Black Panther was Marvel's first prominent African superhero. Stories like Civil War were used as critiques of questionable civil liberty policies. I don't get where this idea of Marvel "going woke all of a sudden" comes from. |

On top of that, I don't even get what's supposed to be "woke" about this movie. Is it because of the three female leads? A black guy in an authoritative position? What am I missing?

Comics have always been influenced by cultural snd social movements. But they did it while telling great stories and not pandering to said movements. A lot of modern comics can't say the same.
Bingo. The subtext is not only text, but poorly expressed text. It's unattractive and clearly lacking the draw of older work (Marvel and DC comics attempts at woke did not translate to sales, Phase had the most woke integrated into projects and became a polarizing era for MCU).
And it's an irradiated element now. Ms Marvel simply looks woke on paper and suffered for it despite, imo, being one of the better MCU TV shows. I fear the same will happen with Marvels. Almost certainly gonna happen with Star Wars with what we may as well call Disney SW Phase 2. I'm particularly interested in Acolytes but it might not pull numbers because the cast is a red flag and it shouldn't. But back to the point, there's a clear difference in story telling and tho people can't articulate it, they can smell it. And they're turning their nose. |

**EDITED*** I don't want an argument. I just want my Captain Marvel sequel, which I am finally getting. :D

There is supposedly a Young Avengers project in the plans, but if there is I'd like it to consist of Kamala, Riri Williams, Cassie Lang, and Kate Bishop. It needs a dude, but I'm drawing a blank on who it could be, outside of Peter Parker.

Depends on the job.:shifty:
That actually brings up a point.
Has the MCU introduced a new young male hero in that age group? Spider-Man is kind of within that age group but I doubt he'll head up the teen league. Red Dagger? Maybe the IM3 kid could be Iron Lad? Patriot? |

They could try to work in Elijah Bradley. They kind of missed out by not doing New Warriors.

Who can Elliot Page play?

Ultimately everyone's reasons for not liking something are there own. I have strong feelings about the subject, but at the end of the day I don't really feel like browbeating people who aren't on my side of the matter. I figure people have enough going on in their lives without me piling on.:o

My only real disappointment is the villain apparently being another random kree, instead of moonstone. |

Moonstone, the Dr. Sofen version, would've been great because they could have worked the psychological antagonist into it. I brought this up before, but imagine Carol being required to have sessions with Sofen as some condition of service or whatever, unknowingly revealing Kree secrets and personal issues that can be used against herself. Plus, if they're going with the angle of Carol being this beloved public figure, but having trouble dealing with that kind of thing, you could have Sofen not just jealous of Carol, but angry with her. Like, she's a sociopath, so she wouldn't be able to understand what Carol has to complain about. I had even thought of this line that she could throw at Carol: "Here's the real definition of insanity; it's having everything, AND THEN WHINING ABOUT IT!" A bit much, sure, but she's a bad guy.
I mean, that's the approach I would have taken, but we also don't know how much this ties into Secret Wars, if at all. |
I says before and I stand firm on this: The villain or at least sub-villain in a Cpt Marvel sequel should be Rogue. For obvious reasons.

Really wish they'd stick with one costume design, but I'm sure there's a story reason for the differences, a la Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Glad they're going to address a couple of the concerns I've had since Endgame.
_________________________________________________________________ The Marvels Will Show Captain Marvel Has Become A Bit Of A Workaholic Since Avengers: Endgame Story by Witney Seibold • 2h ago There are two great mysteries surrounding the character of Colonel Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) as she appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first is why, if she was already a Colonel in the Army, she accepted the demotion to Captain in order to be a superhero. Wouldn't she get a promotion when becoming a superhero? Shouldn't she be Brigadier General Marvel? The other is what a superbeing as powerful as she was doing in between her movies. The 2019 film "Captain Marvel" was set in the mid-1990s and involved Carol, assuming she always lived on Earth, recovering long-lost memories to become a cosmic alien demigoddess. In the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she didn't return to Earth until the events of "Avengers: Endgame," which takes place in 2023. Where was she for the intervening 28 years? Indeed, what does the average day look like for Captain Marvel? Audiences have seen Captain Marvel's origin, and we know that she has the ability to turn her body into a comet and punch through spaceships, but her day-to-day existence hasn't yet been explored, nor what kind of a person she has become as a result of her heroism. Nia DaCosta's upcoming film "The Marvels," set around 2026, may answer the latter of those questions. The film's three leads, Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani play three members of a Captain Marvel cadre who become inexplicably interdimensionally entwined. When one of them uses their superpowers, they inadvertently swap places with another. They have to solve the mystery as to why. The three actresses recently spoke to EW about their upcoming movie, and they found that Captain Marvel not only is busy being a superhero but may have become something of a workaholic. New trailer. With 4 months to go, I'd have expected something like this in early September, but I'm still very much appreciative. The villain still looks like a tremendous disappointment, though. I'm not keen on another Ronan.

Her beef with the Kree is a chapter they do need to close, tho.
Are they getting out the gate early anticipating a bomb?
And yeah, I like Zawe Ashton but the bits we’ve seen in the trailer she looks very OTT with the facial reactions.
I don't know. The whole "changes everything" bit is a bold statement and I don't know how you live up to that in a satisfying and refreshing way. Also, this is another project that has people talking about opening the doors to the X-Men. That has a bit more merit to it as Kamala has been given the whole "mutation" label, but still, I don't know how something like that gets incorporated into this story. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Zawe Ashton might be the worst working British actress, it’s hard to say because there are so many that are so awful but she’s right up there for sure. Fucked her way into it too, and that’s just sad nowadays.
Gamechanger!!!
She looks exactly like the mother of one of Madonna’s children
You know which one
That looks like a completely different film to the trailer I saw some time ago. Did they scrap the other version and shoot a new film?
I know they kept pushing it back. Re-shoots aren't uncommon, but it's probably just a case of more being revealed as time has gone on. That being said, if they did rework things, I hope it's because they have a better movie on their hands. I've been waiting for this one for a good while and I'm aiming to be there on Friday morning.

The fact that they were trying to rekindle memories of the 'good ol' days' (Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Endgame') at the beginning of the trailer, doesn't bode well.
In a year of historic bombs this is projecting to be a bomb to end all bombs. There's a ton to be hesitant about.
The last delay came so late that McDonald's was too deep in their process to delay on their end causing them to do their Marvels promo for the last release date 2 months ago. And that means Disney was in such a panic state about the film that they would willingly waste their money like that instead of releasing the film. |
Disney will lose roughly a billion this year across multiple massive failures. Couple that with the rising costs of production with the recent and current union woes...not look good for the house of mouse.
They're also buying out the rest of Hulu.
Yeah, being forced to buy it. And thats going to hurt.
I would expect to see them diversify their holdings. Break the company up into half a dozen or more companies to compartmentalize the losses.
They could go bankrupt and re-emerge as a Phoenix company called “Datney”
Embargo is up. 50% mixed. 15% poor. User score isnt a thing yet but it was always going to be low.
Dan Murrell says "its an unmitigated disaster unfit for release."
NYP says "In order: bland. Annoying. Misused." There is one review above a 75 from screen rant coming in at a 90. So someone has liked it quite a bit. |
It was probably M-A-G
I hope MAG likes it, hes clearly excited for it
I'll be fine with a good story and being able to give a shit about the characters. I'm eager to see it, but I'm managing my expectations.
Excited to see Ms. Marvel
Won't be able to have popcorn, but might go see it this weekend anyways.... |
So gay
I've decided to rewatch the Marvel films from phases 1 to 3. I've done Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. The ambition is in its infancy, but the two films are significantly better than anything I've seen from phase 4, with the exception of perhaps GotG 3 and Spiderman: No Way Home. To say both Iron Man and Hulk are 15 years old, the CGI holds up better than more recent fare as well.
Oh, fuck this noise. Not only is the theater evidently allowing animals inside, but 4 douche nozzles come in, ALL WITH A DOG OF THEIR OWN, and they're going to be watching along with me. Who the fuck did I piss off?
Cant sell peanuts due to allergies but dogs are whatever
Iit makes you feel any better im alone in my theater
Hellish.... (@ dogs in the theater)
Though I guess some dogs could be quieter than some children.... |
SPOILER: show |
Objectively bad film. Kahn was good though
SPOILER: show |
Some good news for the film. Took in 21mil friday. While projections are 45-52 million its not impossible its opening weekend clears 55 million which if it can it would keep it from being the worst opening in MCU history by passing The Incredible Hulk (not adjusted for inflation.)
The flash was 55.7 so thats another milestone it could possibly pass
With Saturday in the books it looks like the best it can now hope for it 47 mil. This will make it the lowest opener from marvel. It'll now be a fight between the marvels and the flash to see which lost more money. Both had expensive reshoots but flash appears to have had a bigger marketing push. Time will tell. Unlike the flash there isnt a slew of big releases coming to push it out of theaters as fast as the flash ran out so i do think it will bring in more long term.
I would have thought Black Widow would have had the smallest opening.
Black widow made 40mil opening day
80 mil across opening weekend
Plus it made 60million on D+ on top of that
So effectively 140mil open
I forgot about other countries being in a better place at the time as far as COVID went than the States.
To be clear widow made 80mil domestic opening weekend. It made an additional 78mil in foreign markets. So the US was roughly equal to the global take.
Its global opening including digital was around 215mil making it technically the 3rd biggest "origin" marvel film opening behind Capt Marvel and Black Panther. However its important to note that the digital revenue was $29.99 a pop. its also impossible to know how many people went to so-and-sos house and watched it so its not exactly apples to apples in many different ways. Makes it a weird data point. |
Yeah, it was....odd.
Brie larson has a good singing voice so it was especially weird they didnt at least have her sing in her key
I did like her song in SP vs the world.
Yeah her as Envy Adams is great
Yeah I like Larson's version of the song more than metric's. And I love metric.
