MLB Season Thread
This is kind of belated, but just an ongoing chat about games that take place.
I'll start, Nomar's grand slam against the Twins was key |
Texas back in First.
|
Braves 32-37 :'(
|
go mariners :shifty:
|
Speaking of the Mariners, how do you feel now Eddie?
"Its not about the money...I am just leaving the team that developed me for nine years and whose fans adopted me because even though they don't have a lot of money, they won't pay me as much." Eddie, you put your foot in your mouth there. You could have stayed with the team that loved you and been in contention again, but you decided to say it wasn't about the money while leaving for more money. Eddie was a solid closer, but he was never a great pitcher, every one of his saves included like two hits. We would have loved to keep him, but I hope he's enjoying the hole he's dug for himself. I hope the Twins sign a bunch of guys to extensions during the season just to make fun of Eddie. |
I think it's hilarious how every player who leaves Minnesota "wasn't really that good, anyways"
|
He was better than everyone in our bullpen now besides Nathan, but by having 40 saves he was in the same group as Gagne, Wagner, Rivera, Foulke, etc, who were actually great pictures.
|
John Rocker + Atlanta Braves = Championships
|
I'll say the same thing for two other plays Dave. David Ortiz and Chauncey Billups.
Both were good players when they were in Minnesota, and had they stayed they never would have been great. Put Ortiz in Fenway, he can totally take advantage of their walls and lineup, and now he is an MVP candidate. He wasn't that good in Minnesota, and I have no shame that we didn't keep him. The same thing with Chauncey Billups, he was good in Minnesota, but he wasn't great. We would have liked to keep him, but he saw better opportunities in the East and went there, and did amazing things. I personally don't think he would have been as good if he stayed with Minnesota, because he fits perfectly in with the Pistons. It worked out better for both teams, because Detroit wouldn't have won without him, and we wouldn't have done anything without Sam Cassell, even if we still did have Chauncey. If you want to dispute me and prove that Eddie Guardado actually was a great pitcher, and worth every cent he is paid, than do it. If you saw him pitch everynight for two years and give up at least one hit per save, you would know that his stats don't reflect his ability. He pitches straight fastballs, and it works for the most part, and he would have been a good asset on our team, but he decided that he was better than he is and demanded more money, and Seattle picked it up. We're still leading the division and beating the Red Sox right now, how are the Diamondbacks doing? |
Whoa, that was a pretty weird set of posts by me
|
The Sox are ahead of the TWINS. Twins play in a weak ass division too.
|
AL Central is a joke
|
4-1 in the bottom of the 6th actually
|
Oh, I thought you were talking about standings, not a game,
|
At least the Mets have Glavine.
|
Fuck Guardado, everyday eddie my ass. You can have him back, we dont like him here
Why Kaz why :'( |
35-34 :-\
Also check out Jon Lieber in the following pic: http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/image...9/cNgIQQyZ.jpg like he got spit on his face or something |
I'm not sure if I like Fenway or hate it. Its got the messed up walls and stuff, which can be cool cause theres a lot of hits and a lot of weird stuff happens, but at the same time it seems like Boston uses it as a huge home field advantage, cause they know where to hit it and everything. I get freaked out everytime theres a fly to right, because a normal fly has like a 95% chance of bring gone in right field. Lets just hope the Twins can win this
|
That Twins/Red Sox series was overall pretty good. We had a grand slam, some great pitching, good hitting, and great defense. Exciting to say the least, too bad 90% of our games are against White Sox, Royals, Indians, Tigers :-/
|
Houston gets:
Carlos Beltran CF Oakland gets: Octavio Dotel CP $$$ Kansas City gets: Mike Teahen 3B Mike Wood RP John Buck C Even though Beltran is obviouslt the big name I think Oakland raped everybody here. They'd been the hottest team in baseball 2 weeks ago and got cold last week but it was due to their bullpen. Rhodes was not reliable as the closer but he is nasty as the set-up man. The real loser in this deal is Craig Biggio. He has to change positions for the 4th time. :( |
Jeez, Ponson 3-10, Ouch. Great pickup for Oakland BTW. They really needed a closer.
D-Rays just smacked the Jays 19-13 too. You know, I feel sorry for the Rays, throw them in the Central and they are a 2ND place team. |
Where will Biggio move to? Left field?
He probably won't mind, he seems to be the kind of player to change positions for the good of the team. |
Yeah, Biggio's going to left. Beltran will be gone by next year though. The Stros want to win now and they might just pull it off.
|
I figured he'd be moving over since they got Hidalgo out of the outfield.
They are looking pretty stacked now. |
They'll trade Hildago soon enough.

lol
Yeah he's a Met now. |
Is he? LOL
Told ya. :p |
It seems like the Astro's are losing relievers pretty hard, first Billy Wagner now Dotel, who do they have still? It this going to come back to bite them or do they have a solid enough pen?
They still have some work to do, because I think as of right now both the Cubs and Cardinals are better teams. |
Brad Lidge's 100 mph heater will close
|
God, I just turned on FSN and was like "Whoa, I thought the Twins were only playing three at Fenway, I didn't know they had another day game." Then after watching for a little, I was like, whoa, this is going into extra innings too, and Balfour is pitching hot again! But then Bert said something that set it off, and I am pissed that I just got punk'd.
|
Yup, Lidge will close.
|
Woo, Giants once again owning in the West, as weak as the division is.
HOWEVER, the Giants are beating the A's 5-0 in the second inning, courtesy of back to back homers against none other than Barry Zito. BTW, there was that little thing about the sweep against LA - the first 4 game sweep of the Dodgers since 1935 (or thereabouts). I'm so stoked for the rest of this season :D |
are the Astros going with David Weathers as their closer now?
If these are 3 top ass prospects (the ones KC got) they should make out real well. Randa is a billion years old. Go Phils. We need a starter. |

Wasn't Dotel having some struggles closing for Houston?
|
Not near the sruggles of Rhodes/Mecir
|
Has anyone else seen the new red hats the Twins wear sometimes? I kinda like em
|
Freddy Garcia to the White Sox for Miguel Olivo.
If the Twins don't make a move, I think this will work out better than Alomar and Everett did last year for the White Sox. They are already putting up a lot of runs, even with Magglio out. Olivo was good, but it won't kill them. The Twins either need to get themselves another starting pitcher, setup man, or power hitter, otherwise this could be the death of us. |
Talks about Magglio being traded to Atlanta for A. Jones.
:( |
Andruw Jones is not what he once was but he is still pretty damn good. Magglio has a bum knee.
If it happens, I dont know who would play ChiSox RF, but JD Drew moves to CF and Mags plays RF for ATL |
Fuck that. I'd rather have Druw.
|
Wasn't it Andruw and Russ Ortiz? Or just Andruw? (I think thats how you spell his name)
Anyway, I think they're better off with Magglio than anybody else. But meh. |
Andruw Jones is a stud. Can't trade him.
|
Yanks just pounded Boston 11-3.
|
Giambi and his roided body fell apart again today I understand.
|
HEY, how are those Jays doing? I heard Joe Carter Bobblehead night was a smash
|
Red Sox played like shit
All the radio stations around here are starting to bash Millar I predict if he wasn't such a "clubhouse" guy he would be long gone, he is a liability out in the field. No matter where you put him...ridiculous |
Weak.
At first it was Mag for Russ, but since the Sox received Garcia, tha talks shifted from Ortiz to Andruw. I dunno, Andruw can hit and play defense considering he has what, 6 gold gloves? Magglio is a stud at the plate but isn't that great in the field. Plus there's 4 years difference I think. Dunno, I'd still want Andruw. |
Not to sound like a jackass, but I can't stand that guy Milar. He just looks like an ass. Wasn't he the guy that started that whole "Cowboy Up" thing?
|
I think I'd rather have Magglio then Jones, but Jones has been a Brave all his career, so I see where your coming from.

Last year, except for the end of the season, he sucked. His avg. at the end of the year was something like .250 And this year he has what? 11 HR's?
How much is he making per year again? |
Alright, so it's one year then, not two. Every good player has thier bad years. Yiu can't expect big numbers sometimes. Tejada had a bad year last year after he won the MVP. Thta's how things go.
|
140 strike outs last year to boot.
|
What exactly happed with Giambi? What did he "hurt"
|
I was counting last year and this year. That's two.
I doubt very much he'll do anything this year eithr. He's hitting like .235, has seen his OBP. drop like a stone and is simply blown up. I suspect by the end of next season, he'll be gone from NY |
All I heard Stima was he was admitted to the hospital. I didn't catch the details.
|
Quote:
|
They said he had some stomach virus or something making him too weak to play.
|
Intestinal parasites apparently.
|
The Reds are sucking a big fat penis these days. Tomorrow is Sean Casey bobblehead day and he might not play.
That's it I'm rooting for Oakland |

METS VS REDS SUPREME
YOU ARE ON ALA LETS MAKE A BET |
also Mets beat Reds last night
|
Yeah, you have to understand though. When guys, especially stars/power hitters from another team, come to NY, thier numbers drop off. Giambi was not the only star when he arrived in NY, and he ceratinly is not the only one this year. It's hard to adjust when you are not "the man" anymore. And look at A-ROD this year, he started slow and he's not doing as well as he did last year with Texas. But I still don't know why I'm arguing this. He had one bad year, THAT'S it. We aren't even at the all-star break yet, let's finish the season first.
|
Yeah as much as I hate to agree with a Yankee fan, this is as close as it gets. :(
BTW: Jun 30 First baseman Jason Giambi, dropped to seventh in the order as his batting average has dipped to .237, was diagnosed with an intestinal parasite. "It's not something you want to hear, but at the same time, it makes you feel good that they finally know what's going on," Giambi told Newsday. "It makes you understand why you've been getting jammed by pitchers throwing 88 miles per hour all over the place." Giambi has been vomiting and feeling weak for the past three weeks. He told Newsday that while he hasn't lost weight despite loss of appetite because he still consumes protein drinks, the illness limited his time in the weight room. "What I'm excited about is that at least we know the reason why and I can fix it," Giambi said. "It's been so hard for me just to get up for the games and it's gotten progressively worse." The undisclosed parasite, which Giambi likely got from contaminated food or water, is being treated with antibiotics. Team doctors have told Giambi he can return to the lineup once he regains his strength, which could be as early as Wednesday. |
Sons of bitches
Bases loaded, no outs...nothing  Bullshit called 3rd strike, but still that's no excuse. How can you not score any runs with the bases load and no outs? Disgusting |
Nomar with another error. Their defense has really struggled this series.
I don't really follow the Sox games unless they are playing the Yankees, are they always this bad defensively? |
Mets jobbed to the Reds today :(
|
lol at Ortiz thinking the ball went right through his glove.
|
Nomars error wasnt THAT bad but the errors have really hurt them this series. Usually isn't this bad.
|
Ortiz should of scooped that Nomar throw. It was a tough play to make anyway.
|
After watching the Yankees vs. Red Sox game, I think I like the Red Sox better, even though the Yankees are the better team. Johnny Damon is the freakin' man. Although Ortiz fucked up, he is the man as well. Manny failed to impress me, though. |
Good game with the Sox and Yankees so far.
Crazy play by Jeter. |
4-4 14th inning.
|
FUCK
|
SWEEP. 5-4 YANKS. And today is another reason why I can't stand fk'n Pedro. I give him complete respect on being a great picture, but was it neccesary to hit Shef. I mean, I understand Pedro geting pissed at Sheff for calling time twice, but you don't hit a guy for that. Come up and in fine, but don't blatanly fk'n hit him.
But nice plays by Reese and then Jeter |
Veritek staring down that guy when he tried to sweep his legs was gangsta
Fuckin pissed about the game though. Why the fuck can't the Sox score runs   |
Quote:
Vel, I got your broom, I think you might need it now. |
Crazy game.
|
Shit! Sox lost again? Damn. Can someone give me a rundown cause it wasn't televised here? |
Mets? What? What? What!?
|
LOL @ the double "triple" play by Jeter.
Also, Sheff would murder Pedro. |
LOL why do you say that
I always saw Sheff was one of those huge guys that cannot fight at all. Not saying Pedro can rumble or anything though |
I dunno
I always figured Sheff could hold his own pretty well. He was pretty pissed too. Pedro just kind of looked at him. |
Pedro hits everyone and doesn't even care. Everybody talks tough but the only person to ever actually go after him was Zimmer lol
|
ANd that turned into quite a funny sight
|
The Red Sox/Yankees game was probably the best game I have seen all season. So much crazy shit going on. That Jeter play though, I dunno what he was doing. I think he coulda stopped himself before going like 5 rows deep.
Sheff playing 3rd base lol |
I thought Sheff was super badass, like grew up in the ghetto and would kill you? Maybe I'm misinformed.
|

|
Yeah, it looked like it would have been tough to stop when he's running full speed.
A lot of things I've watched recapping the game were talking about how Nomar didn't get involved at all. While everyone else was up off the bench cheering on the team, he never left the bench at all. |
Watching the Red Sox vs. the Braves  Ortiz is the man. Also, Varitek is starting to grow on me. But Johnny Damon struck out. :( Rameriez still hasn't impressed me. |
WOOO! Damon scores to put the Sox ahead 3-2 in the 10th. I'm so buying a Damon jersey. I hope the Red Sox defense doesn't blow this. |
SHIT. Tied again. |
FUCKING BRAVES  |
Manny proves once again he is the only clutch guy on the team
But hes a still a bum though right VEL? Because he doesn't run out popflys hahaha |
lol, the red sox are done.
|
YEAH WHAT NICK GREEN BITCHES
