I will probably be seeing it this weekend.

Nowhere Man 06-29-2004 08:53 PM

If I can't get a ticket for it tomorrow night, I'm gonna try and see it this weekend with my buddies. Looks like some good stuff.

Boondock Saint 06-29-2004 09:00 PM

Hopefully seeing it sometime this week. Have heard only positive things about it so far. :y:

Champion of Europa 06-30-2004 02:40 AM

I'm on a populated island with 1 movie theater, and Spider Man 2 is expected to break records, so I'm fu</>cked as far as seeing it for a few weeks.

I'll probably wait until it's on tv (and then wonder why I bothered)

Is $$ good or bad?

Smitty 06-30-2004 05:11 AM

Everything I wanted to see was in it. All the loose ends from the first movie are tied up. All in all, it was a great movie. Now it being the best superhero movie might be a stretch, but it is on par with some of the good flicks that came out in the past years like X2 and Hellboy.

Sephiroth 06-30-2004 08:45 AM

I think part 2 is great...going to see it on friday.

But which villian is going to be next(Spiderman 3)...if you would follow the real Spiderman Story(comic books), cause i cant remember :-\

I thought it's going to be Harry as the new Green Goblin, but they'll probably throw another villain into the mix.

I've heard it's better than the first one and after watching that on Monday night (third time) - it's going to kick so much ass over the other movies this summer. Although, Keira Knightley is in King Arthur

Gonzo 06-30-2004 11:49 PM

Well, they are playing some special midnight showings at this one mall so I saw it Tuesday night. Good flick, nicely ties up loose ends like aforementioned and continues the story well. The ending could have been a little less drawn out but perhaps that would be because I had to piss like a race horse.

Innovator 07-01-2004 01:44 AM

amaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing movie, done well.

Can't wait for the third one now, gonna be badass

They'll probably make it a tandem.

Although they really should have built the Hobgoblin thing up more.

Watched it Tuesday for the Midnight Show.
Must say that I loved it, and can't wait for it to come out on DVDs in about 5-6 months. (If they were smart, they'd have it out in December for the Christmas season)

As for who the villains are going to be for Spider-man 3..
I've heard that it was going to be.. Hob Goblin & Lizard.

Last Spidey came out May 3rd, we had DVD on Nov. 1...

They will PROBABLY put it out faster and we'll have it by Thanksgiving or so, in my estimation.

Gonzo 07-01-2004 02:45 PM

They will most likely have it out by December, I work in a video store and my bet would be by then at the latest.

Very well done, I liked it's development, it's pace . I like how they aren't rushing things. Good story telling going on.

'Spider-Man 2' Amazes on Opening Day
by Brandon Gray
July 1, 2004

HOLLYWOOD (Box Office Mojo) – Spider-Man 2 made no sacrifice in its Wednesday bow, capturing a stunning $40.5 million.

The $200 million plus Marvel Comics adaptation snared the biggest opening day ever, besting the original Spider-Man's $39.4 million -- a record that had stood since that picture's May 3, 2002 debut. It ultimately amassed $403.7 million by the close of its domestic run, the fifth highest grossing picture of all time.

Spider-Man 2 also scored the top Wednesday ever, soaring past The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King's $34.5 million. Like that movie and many other fan-driven blockbusters, Spider-Man 2 began at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, generating around $5 million from those showings alone.

The sequel's debut marks the best of 2004, eclipsing Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban's $38.3 million. Shrek 2 still holds the overall single day record with $44.8 million on its first Saturday.

Sony unmasked Spider-Man 2 at 4,152 theaters, the second widest release of all time behind Shrek 2's 4,163. The launch eclipses the 3,615 debut of the first movie and casts a web across roughly 70% of the nation's theaters.

When Sony zeroed in on Independence Day week, they were, in effect, not trying to top the $114.8 million opening weekend record of the first Spider-Man. The frame's previous highs were 2002's Men in Black II with $52.1 million, or, taking ticket price inflation into account, Independence Day with an adjusted $70 million. Whenever July 4 lands on a weekend, as it does this year, it tends to put a dent in the weekend gross. May is the month for a movie gunning for weekend honors.

What the holiday allows is potent business spread out to weekdays, not just Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The average Wednesday debut can rack up 40% or more of its five-day opening from Wednesday and Thursday alone. With that in mind, Spider-Man 2 could likely top The Matrix Reloaded's $144.4 million five-day, $151.9 million six-day and $158.2 million opening week records -- without the severe front-loadedness that movie suffered.

Meanwhile, Fahrenheit 9/11 added 316 theaters (a 36% boost) for a total of 1,184, but still saw business dip in the face of Spider-Man 2. The Michael Moore op-ed documentary was down 10% to an estimated $3.4 million on Wednesday, lifting its tally to $35.7 million. Picture invades another 541 theaters on Friday for a total of 1,725.

I can use my car, I just can't drive any where but work and run errands. I got stopped the other day with my girlfriend in the car (not supposed to becuase I haven't had my liscence for more than 6 months.), so my parents grounded me for a week.

Anyways, I went and saw it today anyways. Kick ass movie.

OssMan 07-01-2004 09:46 PM

I saw it, I knew what was coming so I wasn't really impressed. Dissapointed with the end a little.

Shylox 07-01-2004 11:37 PM

Hopefully gonna see it soon.

Frank Grimes Jnr 07-01-2004 11:58 PM

Saw it, it was alright.
Best thing in it was J.K Simmons, plays Vern on Oz. he made me crack up every time he was on screen.
Other than that it was pretty disappointing.
Also, there is a good cameo but it would be a spoiler to reveal it.

John la Rock 07-02-2004 07:10 PM

What an awesome movie. 10 X better than the original :y:

Gonzo 07-02-2004 09:32 PM

The original was okay, not as bad as everyone thinks though because just like with the first X-Men they had to lay some groundwork which is in and of itself pretty boring.

FFD 07-02-2004 11:48 PM

Quck question? (spoiler)

I think it was something to do with his mental doubting of himself and all that.

I did see it today, and it was a good movie, not fantastic.

I told that to a female friend of mine, and she says, "Obviously you didn't get the depth of the movie."

I loved it. Then again, I am a hardcore Spidey fan.

loopydate 07-03-2004 03:21 PM

Saw it last night, and absolutely loved it. J.K. Simmons was, as always, brilliant, and Alfred Molina is the absolute man. They could not have cast Ock any better than Molina. And they way they laid the groundwork for SM3 was great. They tied up some important loose ends in this one, but they left just enough open to warrant a third movie without making it seem forced. Will absolutely be at SM3 opening day.

House of Pancakes 07-03-2004 05:09 PM

After thinking the first Spider-Man was lame and crappy, I went to see this one because I was a little interested [plus, the reviews were great]. I loved every minute of it. The story was good, it was hilarious at time, and the fights between Spiderman and Doc Ock were unreal. This movie felt much more like an adaptation of the comic book. I recommend people to see this movie even if you didn't like the first one, because this one blows it away.

The Icon of Elisim 07-03-2004 10:07 PM

I really enjoyed it alot.

I'm thinking that the story for the third one will be Spiderman getting the symbiote and then we see his change due to it, plus the Eddie Brock build up. Then it ends with him beating Harry to an inch of his life before realising what its doing to him and then spliting from it.

Or it'll be a green goblin/lizard combo

AareDub 07-03-2004 10:54 PM

I saw it last night and was pretty disappointed. It wasn't terrible or anything, I just left the theatre feeling let down. I was really tired, that probably lowered my ability to enjoy the movie or something. Anyway, I'd give it like a 7 out of 10.

YOUR Hero 07-04-2004 12:07 AM

To me, it appears the spiderman movies will always end with you wanting more. As it should, if done sucessfully.

Dude. She seriously called a comic book flick deep?

And yeah, he was torn as to what he wanted in life, and couldn't focus. Notice how his powers seemed to return fully when his two worlds collided.

Kane Knight 07-04-2004 03:25 AM

Anyhow...It felt very comic book-y, without being a total departure from the first movie. I think I liked the pace of this movie a lot more than the first one. It felt more like Spider-Man.

they did a lot better making the Toby scenes mesh with the CGI scenes. I mean, it wasn't perfect, but who cares? I mostly found it to be distracting when the quality of the first one shifted from Lord of the Rings to Mighty Morphin power Rangers.

The fight scenes were amazing. It was over the top without feeling totally cartoony.

I'm just annoyed at how often Spider-Man got unmasked and some other small things. I don't like the way they seem to be following Batman in terms of the villains meeting their ends. I do like how they kept it flowing. I liked the set up for SM3, with a feeling of continuity, etc. Good movie. Greatest? I don't know. Overhyped? Definitely. But what isn't these days?

Triple A 07-05-2004 05:55 AM

Just saw it tonight. It was pretty fucking terrible. Some of the dialogue made me want to kill somebody.

It really was painful to sit through. The action sequences were great, but the story... awful. It really was a piece of shit. I don't understand why everyone is loving it. I guess you had to read the comic book to appreciate it.

Also, why the fuck did Kirsten Dunst leave her fiancée at the altar? That is a pretty dickhead thing to do. Maybe she could have made her decision a little earlier.

#1-norm-fan 07-05-2004 05:57 AM

Ebert called it the greatest super hero movie he's ever seen. And he praised the dialogue.

Triple A 07-05-2004 05:59 AM

What the fuck. The dialogue was TERRIBLE. I slapped my forehead at least twenty times during the movie. I was like what the fuck is this bullshit. GIMME A BREAK.

House of Pancakes 07-05-2004 04:03 PM

It's made $128.8 million in its first four days, which is the second-best four-day gross of all-time behind The Matrix: Reloaded.

House of Pancakes 07-05-2004 09:05 PM

Quote:

Columbia Pictures' Spider-Man 2 earned an estimated $180.1 million from 4,152 theaters in its first six days of release during the 4th of July holiday, setting a record for biggest first six days ever, surpassing The Matrix Reloaded which collected $146.9 million in the same amount of time last year. The first Spider-Man earned $144.2 million its first six days, but that opened on a Friday. For the three-day period from Friday to Sunday, the Spidey sequel made$88.3 million, which is the top 4th of July opening in history, passing the studio's own Men in Black II, which pulled in $52.1 million for the three days. For the four days, Friday to Monday, the sequel made $115.8 million. Spidey 2 also marks the biggest 5-day opening total for a film with $152.6 million, a record also previously held by "Reloaded" ($144.4 million). The $88.3 million is the biggest opening weekend ever for the month of July, dropping Austin Powers in Goldmember's $73.1 million to second place. While it didn't pass the first Spidey film's weekend record of $114.8 million, again the sequel opened on Wednesday which gave moviegoers a lot of time to see it before the weekend.

Harry is the Green Goblin.

There were a bunch of Hobgoblins too (at least 3, plus the Doppleganger "Demogoblin" and a false lead [Ned Leeds]).

Hobby actually was created by a guy who stumbled across some of Norman Osbourne's old stashes.

House of Pancakes 07-08-2004 04:14 PM

Update:

It's made $192.1 million in seven days. If it makes another $8 million today, it'll beat the first Spider-Man in being the fastest film to hit $200 million.

For the record, I would go with Green Goblin II and The Lizard as the villains for the next movie.

Kane Knight 07-08-2004 05:38 PM

The cool thing is that they've already built Curt Conners. He's established, and ready to become a villain. I just wish they had actually introduced Brock at some point in this movie. We all know Venom's the most-wanted villain in the series, and we all know that they're gonna have to do up a movie invoilving him eventually, so they might as well lay the foundation.

House of Pancakes 07-08-2004 05:55 PM

He wasn't really introduced, but it's been leaking on the internet that his name is in the movie. When the close-up of the newspaper article "Spider-Man No More" happens, in the lower right-hand corner, it says "Photograph by Eddie Brock."

what they should do is in the 3rd movie, Jameson's son will go into space and come back with the alien symbiote. All you have to do is establish Brock on the side and the 4th movie is all written.

It's going to take more than that to establish him, though.

Innovator's pretty much on it. I pointed out to my friend that JAmeson's how the symbiote was introduced in the cartoon. I mean, they have to pull it from somewhere, and I don't see the Secret Wars happening.

Y2Ant 07-09-2004 12:41 AM

Just got back from seeing it (staff preview whattup)

Pretty good, it had pretty much everything I wanted/expected out of it, and set up a third one nicely. Like Scot said too, it left me wanting more. I wanna see it again I think, i'll probably like it more when I do.

I was surprised by him unmasking in the train scene, and I was expecting Mary-Jane to either marry that astronaut guy, or just not bother with Spiderman, but it's a nice refreshing change to see them get together.

The action scenes were pretty awesome, and there were some funny parts too (where he tells the kids to eat their greens, and when he can't get a drink from the waiters)

Oh and Kirsten Dunst is fucking HOT.

YOUR Hero 07-09-2004 01:36 AM

Kane, Kane, Kane, you are too impatient. I like the slow, deeper development that they seem to be pushing. No need to try and quickly introduce anyone. Venom IMO doesn't need to show up until like the 5th movie. Small trickles of character building in the third, more so in the fourth, like thy've done with Green Goblin, then in the 5th, bam. That's the formula they should use.

The only proble with that, like I said earlier is the degeneration of the Spiderman Series before getting that far. Hopefully it doesn't do a 'Batman' and turn to shit and/or loose it's main characters.

Gonzo 07-09-2004 01:39 AM

Assuming they take it that far...

Also, I absolutely hate that, because somewhere down the road you just have to know that the actors are going to change, which sucks.

$202.1 million in eight days. Fastest movie to make $200 million ever.

That's the formula they should use.

The only proble with that, like I said earlier is the degeneration of the Spiderman Series before getting that far. Hopefully it doesn't do a 'Batman' and turn to shit and/or loose it's main characters.

I'm not impatient, I jsut know they're gonna buckle sooner rather than later, so they should put in some Brock shots so that when they pull Venom, it won't be out of the blue.

I actually would prefer to not see Venom in the movies. He's got so many characters that would fit in better with the way Raimi's done the movies.

I've already got it on my computer too.

Just saw it, finally. This movie kicked so much ass. Definitely the best of the summer and better than the first. And it is what every sequel should be. Keep it up Raimi, you da man. :y: :y: :y:

I forget which but some company has the rights to make Spider-Man 3 and 4 video games based off the movies series. I read it on 1up.com.

Well I ended up with a day off on Canada Day and saw it during the afternoon. I must remember to stop seeing afternoon films that kids can get into.

Great movie. Amazing action sequences that I just dropped my jaw over. Good character development and the Tobey to CGI transition was almost flawless and it worked.

I have to say, in amongst all the action sequences - my favorite scene was still when Spiderman was in the elevator. Those that saw it know what I am referring to...

and that shit wasn't even chocolate cake. Some of the dialog was corny though, like when she was packing her things and in the tea shop.

Personally, I'd like to see the Scorpion make his way into the next movie. THe most likely result will be a three way fight between Spiderman, Green Goblin, and another enemy thrown in to make the movie feel new.

Enemies I don't want to see: Black Cat, Rhyno, Kraven the Hunter, or the Kingpin (who has already made an appearance in Daredevil.)

Enemies I would like to see: Lizard, Hobgoblin, Scorpion, Vulture

Angles I'd enjoy: The black suit, Cameo of the Scarlet Spider, or the 4 Identity Crisis personas Spidey took on. (I forget their names off hand. Correct me if I'm wrong: Maverick, Riccochet, Prodegy and Dusk.)
