No it's not. Tyson hasn't fought in 2 years since having Lennox Lewis hand his arse to him. Danny Williams probably has more potential than anyone I have ever seen in this sport but he doesn't have the motivation to live up to it. Ever since I saw Danny Williams separated his right shoulder and not only fought on but knocked his opponent out fighting left handed all night, I had so much respect for him. The man definately has heart. Tyson is definately still the superior fighter and the favourite. I think he'll win but I think Williams will at least take it to him unlike all these other jabroni's who fall at the first sight of a punch.

Tyson was WAY past his prime when he fought Lewis. He was fat, out of shape, and had been drugged a few days earlier (if I recall correctly, he was taking some very heavy anti-depressant pills).


I'll admit - even the 1996 version of Mike Tyson (Tyson/Holyfield part I) would still have lost to Lennonx Lewis.


The Mike Tyson that I'm talking about, is the pre 1991 Mike Tyson. The Mike Tyson that was SENSATIONAL during the mid/late 80's. The Mike Tyson that completely dessminated Mike Spinks.

Not to take anything away from Lennox Lewis, but Lennox Lewis (in his prime) would not be able to even lace the boots of Mike Tyson (in his prime).

A combo-oriented, not-one-punch-obsessed, super fit (mentally and physically) Tyson would've beaten Lewis even worse than when your father beats you. I'd say 3 rounds tops.

The heavyweight division in boxing is VERY weak, so it is definately possible for Tyson to once again become champ.

I agree with Heyman about all his points on Tyson. Even a Tyson (way passed his prime) could beat any top contender in the heavyweight division. In addition, there is still interest in the guy. He adds the element of intrigue, and that means more buys. :y:

No. I am NOT saying that. Tyson is no longer anywhere near the best in the world. I'm not sure who the 'top guys' are right now, but Tyson ain't one them......anymore. Tyson can still beat the 'average' guys of today, but he'll get smoked by the top ones.

There is no 'house-hold' name in the heavy-weight division, except for maybe the Klitcszo(sp?) brothers (Roy Jones and Tarver I think are remaining in the lower-weight divisions). Tyson can still draw, albeit not as much as he previously has. Nonetheless, Tyson still has power and strength, although his quickness/speed has deteriorated. It is not a far-fetched notion to suggest that Tyson can regain the heavyweight throne.

Friday night. Tyson should win. I'd say middle of the fight if Williams doesn't freeze. Williams isn't a huge underdog though (well from those who have seen him fight and know his history).

Tyson is a shadow of his former self and looks like he has lost his killer instinct. However, they say the last thing a boxer loses is his punching power. If Williams avoids being tagged with those huge hooks, he has a chance. However, U.S judges blatantly don't like "boxers" since they always seem to lose fights on points when they fight behind jabs.

Gotta agree with that, his outside ring behavior alone just causes a draw in any arena no matter who he's gonna fight. And he is gonna win right now.

Couldn't have been more right! After Williams got tagged with huge blows in the 1st, he survived and took it right to Tyson landing his own huge shots. The referee was absolutely pathetic. Just as bad as the ref for the Sven Ottke vs. Robin Reid fight. 2pts taken from Williams in the 2nd because he refused to be bullied by Tyson.

What is it with people making excuses for Tyson. The guy was in great shape, you could see his power and sharpness was there. His problem is what I have consistantly said about him for years - He can't box. He has only one game plan and when those huge blows fail, he has nothing. After Williams got rocked in the 1st, he took every single shot Tyson had to offer and stood there. Tyson even looked at him when he had Williams in the corner and Williams refused to take the abuse as to say "What the fu</>ck? You shouldn't be doing this to me!".

Tyson isn't the fighter from yesteryear but he should still be in the best out there in a poor heavyweight division. The way the referee and the media acted, it looked like they blatantly wanted to work this fight. Unfortunately, to work a fight, the person who is doing the job is meant to know and I guess Danny Williams wasn't told.

Trust me, he tore nothing. There was nothing wrong with knee and his movement was fine until he hit the floor. He got up after it and walked away. 10 minutes later there are all these excuses about knees. The dodgy referee couldn't save Tyson. Three Kentucky judges never got the chance to save him and his corner couldn't save him. The best man won and that is that.

Danny Williams has lost 3 fights. Julius Francis was debatable and he got that win back. Samil Sam beat him clean because he didn't get up for the fight. Michael Sprott beating him was a complete joke. He fought a boring fight but he won every round clearly and the ref screwed him. Hardly a record of a journeyman which is what he is being tagged as in the media reports.

"Boxing" just isnt intresting to a large population of the people, Tyson brought fans because he is exciting (well back in the day atleast) to watch to almost everyone. Nobody is going to want to see guys box "good matches" unless you are a boxing purist.

Also, Tyson is small. If he's going to keep on fighting, they have to stop putting him up against these +260lbs guys that also have 4,5-6 inches on him.

I wish I saw the fight now because people have been telling me he was winning round 1 and maybe even round 2, but then he still ended up getting knocked. I think him tearing his knee could have really happened, and it's not just an excuse.

Manager Shelly Finkel said that an MRI showed a complex tear of the lateral meniscus and that Tyson couldn't walk on the leg Saturday. He said Tyson's ex-wife Monica, who is a doctor, read the results.

Williams knocked Tyson out with a series of punches in the fourth round. It appeared Tyson could get up and continue, but he made little attempt to do so.

''In retrospect, I wish he had said something and said he couldn't continue,'' Finkel said.

After the fight, Tyson's trainer, Freddie Roach, credited Williams with fighting a good fight but said Tyson was hampered by the injury.

''It's kind of hard to pivot and throw some shots without your left knee,'' Roach said. ''But Danny Williams surprised a lot of us.''

Finkel said that Tyson was downcast after the fight and that it would take some time to decide when -- or whether -- to resume his career. The fight with Williams was to be the first in a series of comeback fights to help Tyson pay off $38 million in debt. Tyson earned about $8 million Friday, but he would keep only $2 million of that if a bankruptcy reorganization plan is approved. That plan, however, was contingent on Tyson fighting seven times in the next three years, which appears unlikely.

From the judges scorecards at ringside the first round was given to Williams anyways, So I would not try telling anyone Tyson was dominating at that point, as he wasn't even winning.

I watched the fight and two of the three judges scored the first round 10 - 9 in favour of Williams.

Tyson never had a chance of winning this fight even before it started. As I said earlier, Williams was Too Big, Too Fast, Too Strong and Too Good. He outshone Tyson and will do the same with whoever is throw infront of him over the next 6 - 7 years.

So - the whole thing about Tyson making Williams "stagger" was made up? Unless Williams did the same (or more?) to Tyson, I can't see how the judges would scored the round victory to Tyson.

From the sounds of it, it should've been scored 10-8 for Tyson.

Aside from one good punch from Tyson he did nothing throughout the round, he only threw about 20 punches and was outclassed in workrate, if not accuracy.

Well for a while he was a pretty electrifying boxer, he might not have had the best boxing "skills" but he was knocking guys out with the quickness.

Lately tho he has really fallen off. Guy is a nut. I figured he would have beaten Williams though, even Williams is a much larger fighter. I am not really sure what to thinkg about the knee injury, it could just be an excuse or it could be truthful I really dont know. But like you said he strolled in the 1st round so it would make sense if he really did get hurt.
