I think the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake is better than the original, laugh if you want, but it's my opinion. The Texas Chainsaw remake is one of the better remakes I've seen in years.

Probably because I loved the evil Sheriff in the remake of Texas Chainsaw.

As for sequels that were better than the first, I think "Superman II" is better than the first Superman. "X-Men 2" is better than the first X-Men film.

Good topic, Your Hero. :y:

HeartBreakMan2k 10-16-2004 05:36 PM

Walking tall :shifty:

In all seriousness though X2 was better than X-Men. The Flye was better. And that's abut it.

Loose Cannon 10-16-2004 05:41 PM

I thought Major League 2 was better then the first 1

PorkSoda 10-16-2004 06:34 PM

Second Lord Of The Rings was better than the first

Anybody Thrilla 10-16-2004 06:39 PM

Ernest Goes to Jail was better than Ernest Goes to Camp.

Disturbed316 10-16-2004 06:44 PM

X-Men 2 springs to mind, as well as Bill and Teds Bogus Jurney.

John la Rock 10-16-2004 08:38 PM

The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi were better than A New Hope

The Two Towers and The Return of the King were both better than The Fellowship of the Ring

X2 was better than X-Men

The Godftaher and The Godfather Part II are tied

Shrek and Shrek 2 are tied

Toy Story and Toy Story 2 are also tied

Spider-Man 2
Godfather Part 2
Shrek 2
Star Wars (Episode 5)
Lord of the Rings (2 and 3)
Manchurian Candidate (in my opinion)

Molly fan 25 10-17-2004 01:33 AM

Boondock Saint 10-17-2004 04:01 AM

X2

Aliens

Spiderman 2

Godfather II

Return of the Jedi (Yeah, lotta people would disagree with this but oh well)

That's about it for sequels that I think surpass the first. In terms of remakes, in my experience, either the original is better or I haven't seen both versions.

slextremely 10-17-2004 04:10 AM

The Return of the King
Godfather Part II
Empire Strikes Back
Kill Bill Volume 2
X2... that is'nt really saying much
Batman Returns
Terminator 2
The Ring
The Italian Job

Eh that's about all I can think of now

DaveWadding 10-17-2004 04:13 AM

Kill Bill Volume 2 is not a sequel you dense fuck.

slextremely 10-17-2004 04:23 AM

Bull shit kill bill 2 is just as much a sequal as all the other movies dumbass!
Please explain how it is'nt!?!?

el fregadero 10-17-2004 04:25 AM

Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi were better than the first Star Wars movie.

Originally it was just Kill Bill. Hence the original trailer that says "In the year 2003 Uma Thurman will Kill Bill". Kill Bill 1 and 2 are one whole movie cut in half, released separately.

slextremely 10-17-2004 04:58 AM

I know that, but the fact that they are released speratly should mean that it is a sequal. Are you saying The Lord of the Rings is one movie and the last 2 are not sequals. If you make that argument for Kill Bill You should make that argument for Lord of the Rings.
I do consider Kill Bill one movie, i was just answering the question... I think Volume 2 is better than Volume 1

Boondock Saint 10-17-2004 06:25 AM

I guess. But now that I think of it though, I don't actually consider Two Towers and Return of the King as sequels really, just further enstallments in one long story. As opposed to more typical sequels that deal with the same characters yet semi-different storylines/situations.

So yeah, I would count LOTR as one large film, since it was all shot as so. Although I feel Fellowship is the strongest part of the story (and deserved the Oscar). Unlike The Matrix where only the second two were shot together and weren't even being thought of during the filming of part 1.

I dunno. All a matter of opinion.

Kapoutman 10-17-2004 06:36 AM

Cape Fear is the best one I can think of.

TheNamelessOne 10-17-2004 07:20 AM

Evil Dead 2 is better than Evil Dead 1.

Its faster, funnier, and Bruce Campbell kicks more ass.

Oh, and WORKSHED.

If we're getting picky, this isn't really a sequel but a remake. Sam Raimi wnted to make 'Army Of Darkness' but didn't have enough money, so he remade the first movue.
Sorry if I'm sounding like a dick.

TheNamelessOne 10-17-2004 01:15 PM

Oh no, Im definatly with you on this.

Quite frequently on IMDB there are debates about whether it was a remake or a sequel, and I was always in favour of a remake, because half of the story has been changed by Evil Dead 2, and it stays that way into AOD.

So instead of debating about whether or not it is a remake, I just can't be bothered at call it a sequel.

Shaggy 10-17-2004 01:33 PM

Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn....

one of my favorite movies of all time and I thought it was a whole lot better than the first one. Dont get me wrong. The first one was great but this one just made the series a whole lot better.

Loose Cannon 10-17-2004 01:57 PM

LOL, getting heat for the Major League 2 pic. Got some guy called House of Pancakes laughing at me. Jack Parkman owns you all.

John la Rock 10-17-2004 04:26 PM

fuck how could I forget about Spiderman 2, which was MUCH better than the original

Dunno Peter Parker bitching for an hour made that movie suck imo. Fight scenes were mad awesome though.

slextremely 10-17-2004 06:17 PM

ya spidey 2 was OK... I Liked the first one better

Heaven forbid we see a movie that has an actual PLOT. I guess we can't always have the SAME ACTION SEQUENCES THAT WE SEE A DIME A DOZEN in every movie... I used to make fun of a friend of mine because he'd always say that really good movies (like award winning movies) sucked because he lost interest in them too quickly. Every year for his birthday after that we only bought him Jackie Chan movies. He seemed satisfied.

Shawshank 10-18-2004 08:39 PM

weekend at bernies 2 was better than the original !

House of Pancakes 10-18-2004 10:08 PM

Does anyone know what a sequel is? A remake is not a sequel [Cape Fear, Manchurian Candidate]. A continuation of a story is not a sequel [Lord of the Rings, Kill Bill]. A sequel is a movie that was made separately after the first as another "episode" of the first movie. The Godfather Part II is a sequel, and possibly the best sequel ever made.

Boondock Saint 10-18-2004 10:31 PM

Correct.

Dave Youell 10-19-2004 11:46 AM

Don't use trilogies, that's just a cope out IMO

Spidey 2 was better than Spidey 1 (both are great though)

And I think Red Dragon was better than Hannibal, but Red Dragon wasn't better than Manhunter

Boondock Saint 10-19-2004 04:47 PM

I agree. Manhunter was damn good and very underrated. Hannibal made Lecter seem too much like a superhero instead of a villain. Red Dragon was able to bring him back to that more sinister persona even if he isn't in it much.

Rain Man 10-19-2004 06:05 PM

Austin Power Goldmember was by far the funniest Austin Powers of them all

LK 10-20-2004 05:22 PM

Matrix - Revolutions

The Answer 10-20-2004 05:51 PM

I thought the second Resident movie was better then the first

Ogen 10-20-2004 08:09 PM

Godfather 2 I guess

Funky Fly 10-20-2004 08:30 PM

If anyone says Ocean's 11, I will burn you alive. Nutty Professor was a decent remake. It wasn't that great a movie, but neither was the first.

The Fly was good shit.

diamondcutter 10-21-2004 11:25 PM

X2 and Spider-Man 2

Hot Shots! Part Deux ---More, and better gags.

slextremely 10-22-2004 03:21 AM

aaah yes Hot Shots Part Deux was better, forgot all about that one, i think i'll go rent that now.

Actually, when filming Evil Dead II, from what I remember from the commentary, Raimi did not have the rights to use any of the original footage from Part 1 or he just chose not to use the footage; so the beginning of EDII is a recap of the first film, only with ENTIRELY NEW footage, mainly for pacing issues.

Evil Dead II begins the moment Ash is spinning through the air, after all the events of Part 1 have been recapped.

ya I see your point about Parker. The main reason that I loved this movie was because I'm a huge Dock OcK mark and Alfred Molina fan

Johnny Vegas 10-25-2004 06:25 PM

I cant say...well..no, i was going to say that Die Hard 2 was better, but the first was just too good...yea, X-2 was better than the first X-men...i cant think of anything else right now tho..:(

BlackDawn2024 10-29-2004 01:40 PM

Spider-Man 2(there was so much more comic book stuff in it this time around)
Empire Strikes Back
Scream 2(such a better film)
X2: X-Men United
Batman Returns
Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan(as a huge Star Trek fan, the first Trek film is a major let down. It just doesn't hold up over time)
Superman II
Dawn Of The Dead
Blade II

But the best sequel ever is...

Speed 2!! :shifty:

Not trying to say your opinion is wrong here, but that's what it is. That's how it's always been with the comics. He never had any money, no food. He didn't have any money to pay the rent. He'd get a date, but then he'd have to stop something, then lose the date. He was shit on by that city, but still risked his life to protect it. As I see it, Spider-Man 2 was one of the most faithful re-creations of a comic book I've ever seen. Again, not saying your opinion is wrong.
