The Official WWE firing rampage thread...

What do you think is the purpose behind it. The WWE has fired 10 superstars this past week.

Do you think Heat will actually be a show for upper to mid carders now?? Like a shorter version of RAW.

What do you think of all this madness??

Tornado 11-04-2004 08:42 PM

Do we really need another thread on the firings...?

Xero 11-04-2004 08:43 PM

Why don't we just get an official thread? Because at this rate, I don't see it letting up, atleast until we're out of low carders...

Dark Kane 11-04-2004 08:46 PM

HHH really is holding everything down.

Seriously, if they release Molly, I'm going to be fucking pissed and will never watch WWE again. :n:

Yes you will. WWE has us all by the balls and you know it...

McLegend 11-04-2004 08:53 PM

All the people they fired aren't important. They were just wasting money. So I'm glad they fired them.

Anybody Thrilla 11-04-2004 09:00 PM

Maybe it's just me, but I think some of these releases are a good thing. It's not like the WWE were using half of them for anything of importance anyway. They were just deadwood on the roster. At least now they'll have opportunities to perform elsewhere. They won't get paid sh</>it for it, but at least they'll have that opportunity. What's the point in keeping them around if you're not going to use them?

Off the top of my head, the firings went something like...

Billy Gunn
Test
Rico
Rodney Mack
Jazz
Gail Kim
Nidia
Chuck Palumbo
Johnny Stamboli
A-Train

Now, take a second and look at that list. Were ANY of those superstars really doing anything worthwhile? Do you think that there has ever been anyone who has watched a show or paid money to get into a show based on the sole fact that any of those workers were going to be there? I'm thinking not.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying they all suck. In fact, I like most of the people that were released. However, the fact of the matter is that the WWE is a business, and releasing these workers was probably a good business move. I don't think the WWE's stock is going to drop a single iota because of the loss of any of them.

You know, it's almost funny to me. Remember those threads about "HOO SHULD B FIRRED N THA WWE LOLZ?@??@"? Well, most of these people seemed to be on most of those lists. Can the WWE do any right in anyone's eyes?

Tornado 11-04-2004 09:05 PM

As much as i'm for the idea of spending more money on developmential talent, it's kinda harsh that the WWE is just leaving these guys without jobs. Some will get picked up by TNA, but not all.

Also, they way the let Test go was just wrong.

Marc the Smark 11-04-2004 09:23 PM

I don't think Rico should have been released, but here are some people who should be -

Rosey
Steven Richards
Scotty Too Hotty
Hardcore Holly
Akio

Why? Because he claimed to have no money? Who's fault is that?

Dark Kane 11-04-2004 09:25 PM

The only superstar on that list that was worthwhile was Rico. Fans were just beggining to like him and he was getting recognition. I wish they gave Rico a chance. Rico would have been a huge star if he was used right....

Head 11-04-2004 09:25 PM

No, because he now has no income while he is unable to work. Who's to blame for that?

Harsh the WWE leaving guys w/o jobs... welcome to the real world... at least most the guys/gays made over 100K/yr... a lot of people making 30K/yr w/ familes lost work in the last 3-5 years...

I don't feel sorry for them cause they lost their jobs.

The Test case is a little different... I don't think they should have released him while injured... On the flip side, you can't fault the WWE that he was living check to check from the way they described it.

I blame the WWE for that, but you have to blame him if he didn't have any savings... it wasn't like he just made enough to scrape by... I mean, if a guy making 30K/yr w/ a wife and 2 kids gets laid off and didn't have any savings I can understand that... but a single guy, making over 100K/yr, should have had budgeted and saved and should be ok for at leats 6months... the problem is, too many people spend everything they make, like they assume they will always have that amount of income or more.

I do think TNA is licking their chops right now and will wait it out to see who else goes and then sign who they want, rather then jumping ahead and signing people before they see who else goes.

Any chance this is all just a major "work" to bring back Heyman w/ an invasion angle? or start up another fed, owned by the WWE but run under a different label?

The Naitch 11-04-2004 09:52 PM

Keeping Hardcore Holly on the active roster is just wrong

MVP 11-04-2004 09:52 PM

It's sad, I was most devastated by Rico's firing.

who would they be working? "The smarks"? The casual fan would be like "wtf" if they started an angle like that. It's real and it's the smartest business move(s) WWE has done in a long while.

Eunos 11-04-2004 10:05 PM

Rico :(

Hot dang Vince is on a Spring Clean.

I wouldnt be suprised if i come on here tomorrow to read everybody except Triple H and Hardcore Holly released.

Also The SVR game hasnt arrived at the UK yet but now we have 4 people in that game who arent even in the company anymore :o

#1-norm-fan 11-04-2004 10:06 PM

This is my first post in the wrestling forum in ages.

Jesus, what the holy hell is going on??!

Nidia and Gail Kim being released pisses me off for whatever reason. I can understand it though considering the women's division is just OVERFLOWING with talent.

And don't even get me started on the guys who have been released.

Loose Cannon 11-04-2004 10:07 PM

^^LMAO. WHAT THE HELL? You don't even watch anymore. What do you care?

Loose Cannon 11-04-2004 10:17 PM

Just found out that 2 more guys are going soon. Let's take bets. You have to get them both right. Winner gets rep from everyone.

1) Akio
2) Scotty 2 Hotty.

Anybody Thrilla 11-04-2004 10:18 PM

If this were all a work to start a new fed, the fed would have the shi</>ttiest roster in the history of shi</>tty rosters.

Anybody Thrilla 11-04-2004 10:18 PM

I say Rikishi and Garrison Cade.

Dark Kane 11-04-2004 10:27 PM

I find it stupid how they release all those guys and they sign stupid people like Carlito Cool. :n:

El Santo 11-04-2004 10:27 PM

Rikishi's was let go, like, three months ago, AT.

DaveWadding 11-04-2004 10:32 PM

Keesh has been gone.

samichna 11-04-2004 10:40 PM

Just trimming the fat. No harm done.

Gerard 11-04-2004 10:54 PM

Weird that they'd fire rico seeing as hes only back from an injury. Hes pretty entertaining to watch as well. =/

Anybody Thrilla 11-04-2004 11:00 PM

Shows how much SmackDOWN! I've been watching. In that case, Garrison Cade and whoever jobs in the main event of the next episode of HeAt.

WTF, they let Rico go too? Rico was getting kind of old, so that was probably one of the main factors of letting him go. I still think he was quite entertaining, but I guess this downsizing is getting pretty big.

Aussie Skier 11-05-2004 12:03 AM

i dont believe this, i dont fucking beleive this!

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON! I cant BELIEVE they released Rico! I mean. he was hilarious! obviously the gimmick would be short-lived but FUCK!, it hadnt run its course yet......surely!

Boondock Saint 11-05-2004 12:37 AM

As cool as Akio is, I find it hard to believe they would keep him around and let someone like Stamboli, Test and Rico go. :-\

Well, DeMott is announcing right now. He's the Taz of Velocity so he's staying for a while, and they're keeping Nowinski for public appearances, but I wouldn't be suprised if they did let him go.

The CyNick 11-05-2004 12:48 AM

Scotty seems like a logical choice to fire, especially with his neck problems. Akio also makes some sense, I dont think Ive seen him on TV at all. Shannon Moore is the other guy I could see getting axed.

Anyway, someone else already metnioned it, but none of these guys (except maybe Rico) were really doing anything. So its no big loss, and I'm quite sure it doesn't say anything about a major angle or the end of the brand extension.

Just trying to cut costs.

Mr. JL 11-05-2004 01:03 AM

Why the fuck did they release Rico? He was from OVW, he's new, he's over with the crowd and his in rings skills were getting pretty good. I love those kicks. At least they did not release him while he was injured.

John la Rock 11-05-2004 01:16 AM

I liked Rico when he was Billy and Chuck's stylist

Azriel 11-05-2004 01:29 AM

I think Shelton_Kane had a good possibility with Funaki. He's just dead weight really lately.

Gouda 11-05-2004 01:37 AM

My To be Released predictions:

1) Akio
2) Scotty 2 Hotty
3) Shanon Moore
4) Basham Brothers
5) And in the most shocking one of all... Rob Van Dam! That would just piss EVERYBODY off!

What Would Kevin Do? 11-05-2004 02:14 AM

I call conspiracy. Every keeps saying how TNA must be licking their chops... Ten people in 3 days. A shitload of "talent" for TNA to pick up, but at a price. What if Vince let these people go, knowing TNA would pick them up, and suck the money out of them? He could be crippling them financially with these "releases"

RemyRed 11-05-2004 02:15 AM

Maybe it's cause they want to end the brand extention after WM 21??

Spoon Bender 11-05-2004 08:39 AM

I think Rico will do better with some time on the Indys away from TV. If he stayed in WWE for much longer he would have gotten trapped in that gimmick for ages. In TNA he can rework himself a bit and get over as a credible talent.

As for Test, he's perfectly capable of earning money through personal appearances and non wrestling spots on for other promotions. He's just sour because he's not gonna get paid for sittin on his ass. Just cos he used to dress like Nash...

RP 11-05-2004 08:47 AM

If they let Val Venis go it would be the biggest mistake of all. I cant think of a more underused person then him. One of the most talented people on the rost all around. TNA gets there hands on him they have money. IMO

Shannon Moore

And my TNA Conspiracy Theory pick... The Hurricanne

OMG! Another Val Venis mark.

I think Val may be released soon, but I hope we see him retained by the WWE. He's got talent, they've pushed him (successfully too, I might add), but they've gotten cold feet everytime he reaches the surface of the main event. I say keep him and push it.

I don't know if Akio is in OVW or if he's currently just laying around with the WWE. If he is just an accessory to Velocity, I can see him going. Scotty 2 Hotty stands out in my mind as a person who could wind up jobless. Shannon Moore & Funaki to lesser extents. Rosey is another guy as well.

I hope the motive behind this is to make each and every week packed full of talent. Chris Benoit, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho vs. Triple H, Batista, Edge & Gene Snitsky on Heat. I can actually see it happen if they do this right.

If TNA do get some of these guys, do you think we can see a New Age Outlaws reunion? They did it with K-Kwik and Road Dogg, why not these 2?

I'm assuming Road Dogg or whatever he's called now is still with TNA.

And a Rico/Jeff Hardy Tag Team would be pretty damn entertaining too.

Next to go... Paul London. I haven't seen him since he and Kidman fought at No Mercy.

Dark Kane 11-05-2004 09:24 AM

You guys are idiots for saying that Rico is getting kind of old. Why would you say something like that when they continue to keep guys like HHH, Undertaker, Ric Flair, and Shawn Michaels around. Those guys are kind of old. Age doesn't make a difference in wrestling. McMahon would be even more of a loser for firing people 'cause of old age. There has to be a reason behind all these firings. Not because of age. That would be called age discrimination.

RP 11-05-2004 09:25 AM

paul london has alot of upside imo. They could still do something with him. I doubt he gets teh axe. But then again i thought Stamboli had major upside too. I dont think Rico was ever gunna get any bigger then he was already. Probably not his fault seeing as how he got stuck with the gay gimmicks and all.

I'll throw one more out there. Isnt about time Eugene's gimmick gets over with? Theres no way he's going anywhere with all the names on RaW. He's basically a charachter that is meant to be felt sorry for. People are starting to boo him. He's a good wrestler but theres nothing that really sticks out about his ring work besides the fact that there passing it off as a retard doing these amazing body slams and what not. I think he's out stayed his welcome . He could be next.

But the thing is those guys were already established by that age. Sure Rico is in prime shape, and sure he's a great wrestler, but it was too much of a risk to push him. they had no problem letting him showcase his talents, but giving him anything near the world title was something that may have been out of the question. I wish they had Rico become a manager, road agent, trainer, booker or something. He had so much to offer, and he got so little time to do it.

Mr. Nerfect 11-05-2004 09:36 AM

I know this might sound a bit uncalled for and sick on my part, but this is sort of feeling like Christmas for me. Just the excitement of the situation. I'm off ot bed now, but wehn I get up the first thing i'm going to do is come online and check to see what's developed on this situation.

LK 11-05-2004 09:38 AM

Shannon Moore and Scotty 2 Hotty will be next to go.

Mr. Nerfect 11-05-2004 09:43 AM

I don't know why, but I feel that Jerry Lawler & Referee Chad Patton's jobs aren't too secure. It's just a feeling. Add Scotty 2 Hotty on top of that. I wouldn't be surprised to see announcer Jason Roberts go.

BTW, I wonder if there will be anyone who will speak out on backstage politics now they're out of the WWE. Billy Gunn might have a bit of dirt on the WWE since he's been with them for over a decade. I think it would just be interesting to hear a few statements about the backstage morale from an actual wrestler now they have nothing ot lose.

Ferocious 11-05-2004 09:52 AM

My money is Nowinski definately going, He's been out injured with that 'severe cuncussion' for how long?

Nowinski, Your cut

jerichoholic169 11-05-2004 09:57 AM

Nowinski had to give up because he was getting really bad headaches or something every time he wrestled. i'm pretty sure he is in charge of some kind of public relations thing. he was on the smackdown your vote campaign thing anyway and when he came on screen it didnt say 'wrestler', it said something about public relations instead.

road doggy dogg 11-05-2004 10:07 AM

What's so bad about releasing Test for being injured? Sports teams do it all the time. It's a competitive business, if you're not contributing, you're gone. Is it right? Probably not. But it's business.

Also, my best guess is that they're doing it to 'trim the fat', since they probably wanna end the roster split or something. I dunno. Maybe they're just losing a lot of money so they need to get rid of people that they don't use/care about.

Disturbed316 11-05-2004 10:14 AM

Yeah, it would be cool to see Billy Gunn reunite with Dogg. BTW he is still in TNA he goes by the name of BG James now. He is a member of the 3LK and I believe is tag teaming with another member of 3LK Ron Killings AKA K Quik against those two guys from Team Canada I forget their names,

ANyways, I hope to god they don't release Paul London, He just got out of a fued. Why don't they fire someone like Akio or Doug or Danny.

SuperSlim 11-05-2004 10:20 AM

man I missed Rico bein released. That really does suck.

but my predictions are

1. Shannon Moore
2. Nowinski- if he isn't released yet

then there is also

3. Akio
4. Rosey

Disturbed316 11-05-2004 10:22 AM

It really is turning into The Triple H Show :(

big_bluto 11-05-2004 10:22 AM

I know that y'all reckon that Val Venis or Scotty 2 Hotty will be emptied next, and there's no sign of Vince giving Hardcore Holly the bullet, but maybe there's a reason for this?

It's pretty obvious to me that given the amount of time they've been around the WWE, they must be doing something right, coz otherwise Vince would have axed them ages ago!

Personally I think all 3 should go, because there time has come and gone.
From a purely business point of view, these guys will be getting paid big bucks, for lower-mid card performances. If WWE was gonna do anything serious with them, then it would've happened by now.

The flip side of that argument is that they let Billy Gunn go, so maybe I'm talking bollocks?
Who know's......except maybe Vince.
And even that comes down to what side of bed he got out of in the morning!

The simple fact is that he is right to clear out the rosters.:y:

There are too many wrestlers hanging around WWE doing nothing, too many wrestlers signed who have been allowed to do nothing.
Think back to Sean O'haire - signed, came on as a sidekick to Roddy Piper, sat in the back for a year got released.
How many other wrestlers have been crapped on? I'm sure you all can think of a few.
Anyway, at least now they might be able to give some guys decent pushes.
That's a good thing in my book!

Who I would like to see released:
RAW
Nowinski
Mark Henry
Rhyno
Rosey
Stacy Kiebler
Tyson Tomko
William Regal
Val Venis
SMACKDOWN
Akio
Funaki
Hardcore Holly
JBL
Kenzo Suzuki
Luther Reigns
Nunzio
Orlando Jordan
Scotty 2 Hotty
Spike Dudley

road doggy dogg 11-05-2004 10:30 AM

LOL they won't release JBL, you fucking retard

The Mackem 11-05-2004 10:38 AM

I might be wrong but releasing somebody with an injury when they are not allowed to get medical insurance seems really harsh to me.

SuperSlim 11-05-2004 10:39 AM

I'm actually startin to like the JBL character... there is no way they are releasin the champ. and they are not ever releasin Stacy Kiebler either.

Mister Sinister 11-05-2004 12:28 PM

Akio
Christopher Nowinski
Funaki
Mark Henry
Nunzio
Paul London
Rosey
Scotty 2 Hotty
Shannon Moore
Steven Richards
The Hurricane
Val Venis

NOTABLE ABSENSES:

Garrison Cade: True, he's injured, but I've got a feeling they may go with the HBCade gimmick when he gets back. If not, he may be gone unless they can think of something else for him (since he IS fairly new).

Hardcore Holly: Unfortunately, I just can't see the WWE releasing him. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Tyson Tomko: A hoss, homegrown, and new. Doubt they'd cut him just yet.</font>

Loose Cannon 11-05-2004 12:52 PM

UH OHHHHHHHHH

*Credit PWInsider

- Last night on WrestleView, Adam Martin reported that there could be another 2 cuts coming any time. Another source has just indicated that we could expect as many as 4 or 5 more cuts to the main roster with the possibility of several developmental talents being dropped as well. With that said, it will be a tough weekend on the road, morale wise, for most of the wrestlers.

- Read into this what you will, but many people were saying that The Hurricane's bio on WWE.com's RAW Superstars page was removed. The bio is now back up, and only time will tell if this was a WWE.com error or if The Hurricane is the next to go.

The I two I see no future for are

Funaki & Scotty 2 Hotty

Other to watch out for...

Hardcore Holly - Managed to win a tag title with Waltman. Congrats. You killed DDP's career
Hurricane - Just cuz the WWE are idiots
Ivory - Haven't seen her on TV regularly since RTC ended
Mark Henry - A ten year contract and he's accomplished shit
Matt Hardy - Because he's injured, you never know
Rosey - Because they fired his tag partner and now he's comic relief
Steven Richards - Because he is so buried its not funny
Val Venis - see Richards

Breaking news: WWE drops entire midcard, crusierweight and women's divisions. Only 10 guys remain

Loose Cannon 11-05-2004 03:33 PM

A thought popped into my head and I decided to do some quick reserach. And I've found something a little interesting.

So was Taboo Tuesday Voting a ploy by the WWE to get the fans to vote on WHO THEY DIDN'T REALLY CARE ABOUT ANYMORE. Check this out. These are the Final Results from the IC Voting thing.

Benjamin 37.48%
Batista 20.11%
Coach 7.01%
Christian 6.69%
Rhyno 5.77%
Maven 4.23%
Regal 3.81%
Hurricane 3.77%
Tyson Tomko 2.49%
Tajiri 2.36%
Steven Richards 2.24%
Val Venis 1.69%
Rosey 1.10%
Chuck Palumbo 0.68%
Rodney Mack 0.58%

Hmmmmm, looks like Vince checked the stats and saw good old Chuckie P and Mack weren't getting the fans attention. Looks like Rosey is next.

El Santo 11-05-2004 03:34 PM

For some reason, I see Matt Hardy. The WWE has no idea how to proceed with him since they switched him to Raw, his whole angle with Lita is functionally completed if Kane is a face, and the WWE has no problems with firing an injured guy. Fits the pattern.

Besides, I'd be somewhat happy if he leaves. The WWE has done nothing for him this year. I've been rooting for a while that he leave the WWE and go to TNA, where a guy of his size would be more appreciated. Also, there's that potential Hardy Boyz reunion thing....

loopydate 11-05-2004 03:44 PM

I'm sticking by my prediction of Val Venis and Scotty 2 Hotty.

Way to remind him

Mister Sinister 11-05-2004 04:05 PM

Well, atleast we know Christian is safe from firing until after Survivor Series, which also saves some other people, since I doubt they will change a huge PPV Match...

But Honestly...I don't see Christian going anywhere, but that may just be me....They did have his match seem unimportant this past week....

The Mackem 11-05-2004 04:15 PM

I don't like Shannon Moore's chances to be honest, he only ever seems to be used in dark matches. No waitscarp that they just gave him a new look they can't get rid of him. Oh wait they did that to Chuck, scrap that then

the_rock's_#1_fan 11-05-2004 04:16 PM

NIDIA getting FIRED= LOSS OF CHANCE AT TRISH OR POSSIBLY SOON LITA'S WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP = LOSS OF A HARD-WORKING DIVA FROM RAW WHO COULD'VE BEEN A TOP CONTENDER BY SUMMER '05= LOWER RAW RATINGS, cuz besides Lita, nobody wants to see Victoria or Molly with the belt, we would've probably for the most part liked to see Gail Kim get a 2nd title or Nidia get her very 1st...it's a DAMN SHAME Vince had to stoop this low...SORRY MOTHERFUCKER :nono: I will never forgive Vince and anyone else who took part in Nidia's firing. Not like they'll really ever give a flying fuck but who cares it's a free country I'm expressing my feelings and if anyone doesn't like it you can eat a dick, assholes!

The Mackem 11-05-2004 04:21 PM

Wasn't really a big fan of Nidia's to be honest.

everyone is talkin about how WWE are feeding talent to TNA via firings. Having looked at who's been fired I think that WWE are dropping their shit hoping that TNA will pick it up and water down anything good goin on over there.

Or...

with the backlash against WWE and THQ for the lacking roster on SD V Raw they are droppin people that arent in the game to stop people complainin!!

Seriously though, the only ones i'm surprised at are Rico and Test (who will hopefully return after injury)

Hardy Boyz Reunion would be SIIICK! Maybe Matt could help inspire Jeff a little more.

You know with all of these releases, I wonder if they are trying to get rid of Velocity and Heat?

I think they're more likely gonig to make them into an "extention" if you will, of RAW and SmackDown!. Maybe a match that doesn't take place on RAW, takes place on Heat. Or if there is build-up to a certain match, instead of saying inone week, they can have it air on Sunday on Heat (like Benoit/Edge). They could tape Heat AFTER they air RAW live.
