Big Show vs Akebono - worst Wrestlemania match of all time?

As bad as it was, the One with King Kong Bundy beating the guy in 37 seconds or something was worse, but the sumo was right there along side the Brawl for All thing they did with Bart Gunn against Butterbean

It was a pretty good sumo match, I think the Japanese people were cuming in their pants over it, but to the Americans/everyone else, it was lame. There have been some worse Mania matches though. Eathquake vs Adam Bomb anyone?

Not only was Trish v Christy worse, I can think of at least three more that were clearly worse: Undertaker v Giant Gonzales, Brock v Goldberg, and Bam Bam v LT (as was mentioned.)

Also, since it was supposed to be the main event, I honestly htink Slaughter v Hogan is the worst WM match ever.

It wasn't really a match, as much as it was a side attraction. So it's kind of unfair to compare it to other piss breaks.

Bossman/Buchanan vs. D'Lo and Godfather at WrestleMania 2000 was worse.

ya so the general feeling is that there has been worse matches. I have to admit that I only watched Wrestlemania 14 - on (other than classics like Hogan/Andre, Bret/Austin, etc)

Not the worst cause at least it got a crowd reaction.

A pretty terrible one was Adonis vs Elmer at 2. Elmer totally botched a slam when he picked up Adonis and then just fell to the ground after slamming Adonis down.

Worst I have ever seen.

It wasn't a wrestling match, it was Sumo, I was grossed out by the rolls, but I was actually really entertained by the whole thing.

You can tell the match was preplanned because Akebono, I think, would beat Big Show in like 10 seconds. You can see that they were pushing each other but not really doing it. I kind of enjoyed it except I didn't like what they were wearing. (I think I should spend time with my hamster)

The worst match of all time at Wrestlemaina was Demolition v Tenryu and some fat Jap at Wrestlemania VII. The match was right after Warrior v Savage(Career Match) so the crowd was exhausted and the match had no chemistry or psychology.

Jake Roberts v Andre the Giant at WM V was pretty bad too.

I don't know. If I wanted to watch Sumo, I'd fucking watch sumo. This had incredibly limited appeal to a primarily western audience.

Any of you guys remember back at 'Mania XX, there was supposed to be this big 5-on-5 match with Jeff Jarett, the Headshrinkers and two other guys, I think Repo Man, taking on 5 faces, which included Men on a Mission? I remember they showed the heels arguing who the captain of the team was going to be. And Vince, in one of the worst sugarcoating coverups probably in the history of his life, let alone his wrestling business was like

"It looks like we're not going to have our 5-on-5 match"

Lawler: "They can't decide who's gonna be captain!"

Aside from the worst Mania match that actually happened and wasn't scrapped last minute?.........My vote goes to the Panties matches and no I am not gay. Im just saying I can see it on Raw. They end in like 5 minutes. Sure we see some tail, but we can also see the same thing the next night. Why not fill up some time with an actual match?

Whatever, that match was terrible. At least Show/Akebono didn't last long. I had to sit there and watch those four jerk offs wrestle for nearly 10 minutes.

Undertaker vs. Giant Gonzalez is probably the worst wrestlemania match I've ever seen.

Was WrestleMania X mate, not XX. Jarrett, Headshrinkers, IRS plus one other vs. 123 Kid, Bob Holly, Tatanka and the Smoking Gunns I think. Men on a Mission weren't going to be on either team as they faced the Quebecers for the Tag straps at WMX. Anyone knows if the Smoking Gunns were on the face team, or indeed who the one other was on the heel team, please let me know.

Re: the poll, I didn't see WMXXI so I can't comment on Akebono/Big Show, but Earthquake vs Adam Bomb at WMX was fried gold mate!

The Gunns were face, and the other guy on the heel team was Rick Martel. The match was scrapped due to time constraints, but yeah, it was pretty retarded how they ditched it because "they coudn't decide on a captain", can't they come up with a better excuse?

the 10-man tag did take place that thursday on a special edition of RAW.....the heel team won

It would have been better to have just explained that due to time restraints, one match on the card wouldn't be taking place. At least the fans would have understood.

Besides, there was no build up to that match before WrestleMania X. People were looking forward to Bret vs Owen, Savage vs Crush and the two WWF title matches. Heck, there was more heat for Bam Bam/Luna vs Doink/Dink than there would have been for the 10-man tag.

And that was a great worked sumo match. It showcased Akebono's abilities very well, and it even put BigShow over by having him lift Akebono (lifting someone in sumo is extrememly rare and difficult, if any of you understood sumo you would have been going crazy when u saw that). Anyway, don't hate it just because you dont understand it.

In case you didnt realize it, werestlemania is shown in other countries besides the good ol' USA. It was a special feature match for those people who enjoy sumo. And wow that was very observant of you to say it stuck out like a sore thumb.... obviously it did, just like a ladder match sticks out amongst a whole bunch or regular matches. or how the brawl for all stuck out. Things that are different from the norm stick out.... WOW!!!

And my argument is not MOOT, anyone who paid for wrestlemania did so with full knowledge that there would be a featured sumo match. Its one thing to know what sumo is and be able to intelligently disect the match, but to just say "it sucked" without ever having seen sumo before is just ignorant.

I never said it was only shown in the US. It's an Americanised wrestling production. Meaning that the style is not lucha libre, Japanese, Shootfighting, Sumo, whatever. It's as out of place as Shannon Moore challenging Dorothy Hamill to a figure skating contest. IT's out of place, it shouldn't be in wrestling, and so yes, it's a horrible match for a PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING SHOW.

Its a special attraction. and the figure skating example is stupid. sumo is another form of hand to hand combat, and therefore is not a huge deviation from professional wrestling. I mean, they have battle royales where the idea is throw your opponent out of the ring (much like sumo... sound familiar?) Just because you see men in the ring wearing a different kind of underwear than you are used of seeing, you start to panic and say it sucks. I bet if they put the ropes back up and called it a battle royale you would all be saying how great it was. IGNORANT
