Otherwise, Cena in 2005 = Rock in 2000, right up until the point he jobbed to Angle, just about. Only thing with Cena is that Cena was kept away from the WWE title waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. He should have won that as his momentum was really moving.

Cena didn't need the belt yet then. He was already over. Now that his popularity is waining some, it was the right time to boost him with the belt. JBL needed the belt earlier in to cement his character, without the belt, his chahracter didn't work as well. Hopefully they use the belt properly on him.

It's not far from the original point at all. You are arguing that the "past his prime" Rocky is an example of how someone in Cena's position is effective and viable. However, the Rock returned with some new catchphrases which mixed things up, which is Hardly what Cena's done so far. The Rock in his prime used a combination of mic skills AS WELL AS pavlovian responses.

I suppose the whole FCC garbage did tame his badass image quite a bit, but the whole rebel shtick with defacing titles and creating a bond with the "chain gang" help him get over with the younger marks. Couple that with his ass-kicking attitude and it plays into the hands of the fans.

Regarding Cena I have always thought that he played the heel better than being a face. Maybe if they let him write his own stuff which seemed to quite well when he did it before. BTW I am ready to cringe at what he does with the WWE title.

You are exactly right. When something works, it works.

Cena is no more repeating himself than other workers. The Undertaker has been saying "Rest in Peace" for damn near 20 years now. Does that mean he should retire? No[in my opinion anyway].

Cena is a young,talented guy who WILL be the future of the WWE & Smackdown for years to come, like it or not. I do think he should change his matches up some, however. He needs a few more power moves and some suplexes and maybe some submissions as well. Other than that, nothing short of a future heel turn will change him. And right now, like it or not, his character is working....NUFF SAID.

Uh, John Cena will not last and will not be the future of anything if he continues on this bland, white boy, wankster ass rapper shit he's on right now. He was good before the writers started doing his raps for him, but right now, he's losing a whole helluva lot of his overness to mediocrity.

Besides, even if he does start becoming the "edgy" rapper again, that shit won't last forever.

While I'll admit, Cena could do better, he's far from the worst wrestler I've ever seen.

Does he need to work on his rhymes? Of course.

Am I tired of hearing "The Champ is HERE!!!" ten million times? A resounding YES. He needs some more catchphrases.

Does that mean I totally hate Cena's character? No. I think there's definite room for improvement. But, he's watchable.

As far as you commenting on the white rapper thing, it's the base for his character. Why would he change? It'd make no sense. That'd be like Taker saying he's not "dead"[even though we know it's the character]. Or like Flair saying he's not the "Nature Boy". It'd be ludicrious.

I much prefer the heel "edgy" Cena, but, it's his time to be face. He's "over" and is the top face on Smackdown[debatably so, considering Guerrero is the MOST over face, but, the WWE doesn't seem to care anyway].

Oh well. Some people will never be satisfied no matter what.

I do, however, agree with ya on one thing; Cena does need a new finisher. The F-U was funny when he first started doing it, as he was mocking Brock Lesnar's F5. However, the move has lost it's appeal and looks too damn weak. Perhaps he should re-think the finisher situation :wave:
