Next-Gen Xbox on MTV

Thursday, May 12 will be the first showing of the next Xbox and the first footage of the next generation videogames.

http://xbox.ign.com/articles/603/603151p1.html

I don't quite fully understand why the console will make it's debut on the station that is suppose to be music oriented, although obviously not, but it will be cool to see some actual footage.

SuperSlim 04-12-2005 08:02 AM

guess they figure entertainment main stream channel, entertainment mainstream gaming console :?:

el fregadero 04-12-2005 12:41 PM

Alot of their target audience (18-25 males, or whatever) probably watches MTV. I guess that's what they are thinking.

Kane Knight 04-12-2005 01:19 PM

It's a smart move. They want more exposure, MTV will give them mainstream exposure.

And while you're right that MTV's supposed to be about music, looking at the lineup it's clearly not, and this is on par with the rest of the non-music crap.

Now all they need is some mainstream appeal. Let's see if they can get more than five games that the average fan gives a shit about.

Funky Fly 04-12-2005 06:30 PM

MTV hasn't been about busic since 1990.

DS 04-12-2005 06:55 PM

I know, that's why I said "obviously not". I just found it funny. It's not that I care about it being shown on MTV, I just care about seeing it.

Ourcolony.net, the unofficial teaser site for the next Xbox, put up an image that could be that of Project Gotham Racing 3.

http://image.com.com/gamespot/images..._screen001.jpg

Gonzo 04-13-2005 09:20 PM

I'll believe it when I see it.

DS 04-13-2005 09:36 PM

I know they have the power...

SuperSlim 04-13-2005 11:29 PM

dang

Requiem 04-13-2005 11:49 PM

Jesus titty fuckin christ...

Bad Company 04-13-2005 11:58 PM

That's pre rendered though.

Requiem 04-14-2005 12:10 AM

I don't doubt they're capable of it. The nike commercial using the engine from the xbox, was amazing, and they announced that their system would be capable of much more than that, and would be better.

DS 04-14-2005 12:25 AM

Their are pictures going around of what might be the next Xbox controllers. The only reason they are believable is because of pictures from Ourcolony that look very similar. In the pictures they got rid of the white and black button, as rumored, and look like there are some shoulder buttons over the triggers. Also, there is no slot for the memory cards that hint at the fact that the Xbox 360 will come with an external HDD that can be taken with you. Oh, and they're wireless.

The Nike commercial wasn't using any engine from any of the consoles and Microsoft wouldn't have said anything about the system capabilities like that guy said.

Requiem 04-14-2005 12:26 AM

Ah..

DS 04-14-2005 12:45 AM

The official name, reported by GamesIndustry.biz, is Xbox 360. The console is said to have a concave look, as if it's "sucking in its cheeks". Along with that it will have a white/platinum look to it.

Take it for what it's worth right now but it's a pretty reliable source.

The Cerebral Assassin 04-16-2005 01:41 PM

how the fuck do you get into ourcolony.net?

You have to answer some lame ass question at the welcome page!

DS 04-16-2005 04:25 PM

External HDD? Interesting.

Any word on if you can dock the controllers or anything? I like changing batteries as rarely as I can.

Please, please, PLEASE no stupid shapes!

I really want to see the next XBox be a more viable competitor, but this sounds ugly.

I absolutely can not wait for the unveiling of the next Xbox.

Or any of the upcoming consoles for that matter. :P

Yeah I was wondering that exact same thing. That would be really nice if it charged up on a stand or something to that sort.

Although if it's like the Wavebird, it wouldn't be all that bad anyway. Still, it'd be nice.

That is a picture of the next generation Madden which EA will show within the first hour of the NFL draft this Saturday. They didn't say what system it was for but with the talk of the Xbox 360 showing, I would guess for that.

Gonzo 04-18-2005 09:09 PM

Haha no way. I'll be watching the draft and if this is real then I'll be amazed.

DS 04-18-2005 09:11 PM

It's on EA's site if you don't believe me. They are putting up a new image every day until then.

Gonzo 04-18-2005 09:25 PM

Oh I believe you. Thats amazing though.

Kane Knight 04-18-2005 09:52 PM

That is amazing. I just hope the XBox gets some more gaming stuff.

I don't want to buy the PS3. I'm sick of flawed systems.

DS 04-18-2005 09:58 PM

The best part about that is that it's from before launch. Just wait 2 year after it's released and think of the graphics then.

UmbrellaCorporation 04-19-2005 05:43 PM

If that's what the graphics look like for Xbox 360, then...

Wow.

I'm a bit skeptical, but I wouldn't be surprised if they looked at least CLOSE to that. If the Xbox 360 is truly that much better, I'll be impressed. I expected good, but not THAT good.

As of now, that is the closest thing to the actual Xbox 360. Although it's still a rumor, the growing speculation makes this seem less likely to be a fake. Take it for what it is though. We only have until May 12 to find out.

Jaded-Dragon 04-23-2005 01:01 AM

Release dates, special features, and first party titles are going to determine the winner of the next console race. X-box 2 and PS3 are going to be very near the same power. It's going to be a lot easier for companies to port over titles, which means less exsclusives, provided Sony and Microsoft aren't going to attempt to pay off companies to only make games for them.

Either way, this should be the craziest and closest console race ever.

And those screens are renders of what games are probably going to look like. Not fact, but probable.

Team Sheep 04-23-2005 10:51 AM

Maybe that thing that looks like a controller port is a sensor that recieves the data from the wireless controllers.

I love my logitech wireless controller but when will they learn that a solid circle d-pad is retarded? It looks like the white one is modeled after the large uncomfortable logitech controller, not the smaller easier to use one.

Shaggy 04-26-2005 03:27 AM

great a wireless controller.....so not only will they milk a good 300+ out of everyone for the system...if they want or need extra controllers at any time it will probably be a good 50$ for one.

I'd say around $35 or $40. But even if that's true, you know how much money they lose on systems? I don't think the "milking" is the correct term here.

BEcause the Wavebird was sucg an expensive controller, and it required an in-package receiver.

AareDub 04-26-2005 01:56 PM

If they really wanted to impress me, they'd not only have built in wireless controllers, they'd have built in wireless networking. THAT would be sweet.

The thing about wireless networking, is not everyone can take advantage of that. There are still a lot of people wired.

YEah. Sony used them for the coolant fans too. Mine was one of the earlier, inbred hamsters with a ehart condition.

Gonzo 04-26-2005 11:43 PM

Seeing this thread again reminds me, if those are anything close to the actual controllers I for one will be trying PS3. If it ain't broke don't fix it. The design for the smaller XBox controllers is good. All one would need to do is to make them wireless, wouldn't you think? Alas, such probably won't be the case as nothing can be simple.

I'm probably getting ahead of myself in actually nagging about this but I can't help but think they might fuck that part up.

Because it will be impossible to find a controller that is comfortable to play.

I didn't say that but you have your gripes I'm sure so I'll have mine.

As far as I'm concerned, the Nintendo 64 had one of the worst controllers ever, but it had some of the BEST games ever (No Mercy and Conker's Bad Fur Day).

I never could figure out the proper way to hold that damned thing! Were you supposed to grab the control stick by grabbing the middle part or what? I just always stretched my thumb over from the left side to the control stick.

Oh, and nic cards are so cheap these days I think they're going to start giving them away in happy meals. It wouldn't be that much extra on top of the wireless.

DS 04-27-2005 05:39 PM

Again, in order to take use of them, someone would have to have a wireless router. The cards only recieve data, they don't send. So if they don't have a router, it's completely useless. Also, not all cards will work with all routers.

That would tag on another $20 at least on the price and that is if the card worked with all routers.

And cards that are more compatible (That is, compatible with a wider array of products) are more expensive and still not universal.

That's not true at all, you are thinking too much in terms of simply using pc equipment. It would be entirely possible to have wireless system links that don't require a wireless router at all. Handheld games are doing it quite well. Granted the bigger consoles would have to send more data than a handheld, but I don't think its too far fetched.

You guys are acting like I said it was fact or something, hell I didn't even say it was probable. I merely said it would be pretty sweet, if you'd like to argue that point then by all means go ahead. Now that I think of it, it would be pretty damn cool if the Xbox 360 could make me a sandwich too, but I don't expect to see it either.

When it comes to price I don't think 20 bucks is an issue here. There have been talks of the system (fully loaded) costing up to $500. If I'm paying that much for a system is 20 bucks going to make a difference? Nope. I can't see anybody saying "I would pay 500 for a xbox, but its just way over priced at 520."

JEsus fucking Christ.

No, we're not making it out as though you said it was fact, we're making it out as though WE said it was fucking unfeasible.

God Damn it. Why can't people on the net read simplistic fucking English? Does your brain have a PSP's battery life or something?

Okay, ignoring your retardation for one split second, let's pretend that all they do is create a wifi link like a DS or PSP has. You'd need something that didn't interfere with a wifi router. You'd need to apply a second set of connections: One for the regular connections, one piece of hardware dedicated to a link. Now it would have to be more powerful than a DS/PSP connection is, not interfere with other products, and be built into a reasonably sized unit. Not only improbable, but impractical and still stupid, and would be more than another fucking 20 dollars. I know, when you pop a tiny price tag on it, it seems so reasonable, but you have to factor in time and effort to make an inobtrusive link-up with limited appeal, strong functionality, and unlikely to cause issues.

The DS and PSP both accomplish this by proprietary software which is limited in scope. And since game linking is such a common feature on portables, it's more desirable.

Now take that, jump your ass back on the short bus, and fuck off.

AareDub 05-02-2005 12:37 PM

Aww, KK got upset with me. That's cute. Chill out, I still love you :P

I still stand by my original argument that wireless linking or wireless lan capability would be pretty damn sweet..... now if they could only work on that sandwich thing.
