HBK/Shelton's match on Raw

This match was the greatest singles match I've ever seen on Cable TV.

I think it shows that 1.) HBK is still one of the best and 2.) When Shelton's ready, he'll be able to main event the big shows.

Bad Company 05-02-2005 10:04 PM

I agree

loopydate 05-02-2005 10:15 PM

Absolutely.

These two both put on a hell of a show. Hell, even Hebner was getting pounded. Anybody else notice that?

Yashamaga 05-02-2005 10:23 PM

Now that I think of it, I'd say that this is in the top 3 of my fav matches with Bret/HBK Iron man and RVD/Lynn @ Living Dangerously 99.

McLegend 05-02-2005 10:25 PM

HBK is amazing. HBK over the years has lost a lot of steps in the ring, but he makes up for it with his wrestling knowledge. HBK may be the best ever.

Also Shelton is Fucking awsome

M. Banana 05-02-2005 10:27 PM

Indeed.

wrestlingking 05-02-2005 10:32 PM

i agree that arguably might of been the best match in the history of raw i dont remember a single match making me go oooooh so many times in awhile it was so good and so much emotion i was on the edge of my seat

loopydate 05-02-2005 10:36 PM

Yet that's the hour one main event so Hunter can take the last slot for his match with (probably) Benoit.

Zen v.W.o. 05-02-2005 10:53 PM

I still prefer the Bulldog/Owen match in Germany for the euro title on Raw.

That was greatness.

Corkscrewed 05-02-2005 11:25 PM

Shelton is AWESOME. That standing jump to the top rope was  and the ending was brilliant. Out of nowhere for most people, and those who saw it coming did so only because they're pretty seasoned viewers. But a great ending, and magnificent spots, wrestling, pacing, and storytelling.

Best match on RAW this year I'd say.

KingofOldSchool 05-02-2005 11:27 PM

Fucking awesome match.

I've been saying how much love I have for Shelton.

I question anyone's sanity who says that Shelton sucks.

Nark Order 05-02-2005 11:27 PM

Agreed. Excellent match. I was jumping out of my seat. That SCM spot was played out perfectly.

Got Benjamin over and maintained HBKs top spot.

loopydate 05-02-2005 11:29 PM

HBK may get a bad rap for helping hold people down in his Kliq days, but the man sells like a maniac. He just helped Shelton's career a whole lot tonight, even though he pinned him. Shelton looked like a legit main eventer tonight.

Gouda 05-02-2005 11:48 PM

I just love the way they're booking Shelty as the young guy with infinite reserves of energy.

That kip up spot was gold. HBK is just like "What the? But.... only I do that!!"

olympic hitman 05-03-2005 01:28 AM

I agree. This match was insanely entertaining and also helped establish Benjamin as a future main eventer. I see Benjamin main-eventing by Wrestlemania 22 or sooner....

HBK has had many matches since his return, but, this was perhaps his best. One of the few times that RAW actually provided something worthwhile and entertaining. Glad to see the storytelling aspect of wrestling hasn't been forgotten.

Mr. Nerfect 05-03-2005 04:16 AM

Holy crap, the last time I've been this excited for a RAW is when people were talking about how good Muhammad Hassan's debut was. But people are saying this HBK/Shelton match is one of the best ever, one of the greatest in RAW's history at least.

I am pumped, and it's a shame I still have to wait some 24 hours for RAW.

Tornado 05-03-2005 05:53 AM

If someone can find me the match in downloadable form, you will receive much rep.

The CyNick 05-03-2005 07:27 AM

I dont know, it was very good, but it wasn't even the bet match Ive seen in the past 30 days, so I cant get overly excited about it.

I would like to see them do a PPV match though, hopefully with a different outcome.

Shaggy 05-03-2005 08:07 AM

I hate Shelton Benjamins character but I think he is one of the best in the ring. He really impressed me in his first Raw match when he faced Triple H. And week after week he has proved that he can run with the big dogs. I think everyone knew that Benjamin Vs HBK would be a great match and now we all know.

Hired Hitman 05-03-2005 08:51 AM

Triple H, Jericho, HBK, this guy is hooking up with a lot of great talent.

Bo 05-03-2005 09:04 AM

To me that was best match I have seen on raw in a long time.

Jonster 05-03-2005 09:06 AM

Awesome awesome match.

SuperSlim 05-03-2005 09:15 AM

I just have to say I missed a good bit of it but what I did see of it was awesome

YOUR Hero 05-03-2005 09:50 AM

Shelton sure comes off as a legit guy. He's been booked really well in his entire WWE career so far.

SuperSlim 05-03-2005 09:52 AM

they still got time to do what they are good at doing, messin stuff up

thuganomicalcrippler 05-03-2005 10:08 AM

Give us a spoiler warning, asshole.

The title is kind of a spoiler warning, as it says HBK/Shelton's match on RAW.
You'd have to be some sort of idiot not to expect a spoiler in the thread.

BatistaBomb 05-03-2005 11:10 AM

the single greatest match in raw history hands down
and even though sheltons shoulders went down for 3 he's still a big winner in this match cause he has now without a shadow of a doubt proven he fucking belongs in the main event
MARK MY WORDS SHELTON BENJAMIN WILL BE WORLD CHAMPION THIS YEAR

Totally agree. I still find it amazing people in the crowd don't cheer for him as much as they do others, and lately they've even been saying 'shelton sucks'. Anyone who chants that deserves to die.

I hope they wait abit until next years wrestlemania, he should stay intercontinental champion for a large part of this year first.Even though he's had no real feuds yet(which is weird when you think how long he's held the title)i'm still enjoying his title reign.

Loose Cannon 05-03-2005 12:05 PM

DAMMIT, what the fuck? I miss 1 Raw in like 4 years and I miss this.

Londoner 05-03-2005 12:07 PM

^Doesn't it get replayed in the US, LC?If it does, then watch it no matter what.We get it repeated twice in the week plus aload of highlight shows which arent worth watching really.

I disagree, name me a couple of real storylines that he has had during his title reign?I can't think of any...the ones with maven/snitsky don't count btw.

blake639raw 05-03-2005 12:13 PM

Shelton could be huge one day, but not if they don't let him work on his mic skills. Sure, he's atrocious right now, but I think he has alot of untapped charisma, it's just that they don't let him work the mic, I guess out of fear that he'll do terrible.

Crashnburn 05-03-2005 12:14 PM

 @ the finish of the match.

Excellent match showcasing both men's skills.

Yeah, he hasn't been much of a focus, but they have protected him along the way though. He hasn't jobbed a lot, so I kinda get the feeling that eventually they want to do something with him.

Loose Cannon 05-03-2005 12:16 PM

I said a while ago that Shelton is the hidden gem. His mic skills are actually good, but they write his crap for him, so he can't really be himself

LK 05-03-2005 12:29 PM

I have not seen this match yet although I just saw the finish which was quality. I must admit that I was a doubter of Benjamin and his ability to make the step up but his performances since Wrestlemanin 21 have convinced me that this guy has what it takes to make that step up to the main event. If the writing team keep it up, then they could have a real star on their hands.

The Fitz 05-03-2005 01:18 PM

My previous pick for best Raw match saw HHH vs. oh guess who Shelton Benjamin.

The super-kick at the end, just holy shit. That's all I could think of, just holy shit.

He's doing pretty good for himself right now. Good enough that the fans seem to be accepting him, baseline. He's coming into his own, so there's no worry about his mic skills.

Michaels has lost a few steps, but he's one of the few "old timers" who still has it. Almost every match he's done in recent history has been a solid one, and he seems more capable of putting on GREAT matches consistently than most of the younger talent.

Shelton, it needs no saying, is the freaking man. He could be one of the major players in the future, if the WWE doesn't tank him. He's talented and well liked.

John la Rock 05-03-2005 01:50 PM

:y:

Best Live TV match EVER!!!

6 star match tonight

Best Superkick ever hands down

John la Rock 05-03-2005 02:00 PM

loved to see HBK/Shelton at WM 22

RGWhat316 05-03-2005 02:07 PM

Agree with everyone here, was one hell of a match. HBK still has it, has provided a number of top quality matches lately. And Shelton impressed me again with that match. It reminded me of RVD/HBK with no HHH interference. And the finish was really  , Shelton flying off the ropes and right into a sweet chin music. I was just thinking how dangerous that looked, but unbelievable match.

John la Rock 05-03-2005 02:10 PM

ya the finish was

Londoner 05-03-2005 02:11 PM

I wonder what the crowd reaction will be like for Shelton next week.

Yeah, considering that he did get booed earlier in the night when Jericho confronted him.

John la Rock 05-03-2005 02:14 PM

Shelton along with Christian are co-MVP's of Raw

Tornado 05-03-2005 02:16 PM

Dammit i wanna see this match...

PorkSoda 05-03-2005 04:14 PM

Shelton has really impressed me in the last few weeks. I was really into his last few matches. I think a feud with RVD would be awesome because if RVD could pull out his ECW style they both would have a great feud.

redoneja 05-03-2005 08:01 PM

It was a great match but I wouldn't call it the greatest match on Raw, though its definately in the top three.
My number one match from Raw is:
British Bulldog v Owen Hart(European Tournament Finals, Berlin, Germany Feburary 1997)

My number 2 is:
Kurt Angle v Chris Beniot(Steel Cage Match, June 2001)

James Steele 05-03-2005 08:29 PM

I don't know if it was the best RAW matches ever, but it is sure as hell one of the best, if not the best, RAW match of the past few years. HBK is still fucking awesome, Shelton is fucking amazing, and the finish was fucking insane. These are my fucking opinions.

redoneja 05-03-2005 08:36 PM

And they are fucking right.

I don't give a shit about storylines. He's been made to look good with/against Nagle, HHH, HBK, Jericho.

Once both guys went down, I KNEW that was what was gonna happen. But I was still like http://tpww.net/forums/images/smilies/love.gif when Shelton did it. It's a case of giving the fans the right thing that also happens to be what they want.

Fox 05-04-2005 12:52 AM

Helluva match. Won't go so far as to say it was the best match in RAW's history (Guerrero/RVD Ladder Match comes to mind...) but it was still one hell of a match. Benjamin has the skills to be a top player in the business for a long time to come, and wrestling greats like HHH, Jericho and HBK will only help him along.

Loved the kip up spot, loved Benjamin's top turnbuckle hop/springboard clothesline, and I marked out for the finish. That's what I tune in every monday night to see. Sick ass spots like those.

#1-norm-fan 05-04-2005 03:07 AM

I've seen them all so everyone should take me seriously when I say... this MAY have been the best match I have ever seen on free TV.

Londoner 05-04-2005 05:30 AM

^^ i agree.I didn't see abit where you could take points off of it. Great start/great storytelling/great moves/great finish.
