Gigs you've been to lately

So who's been to any gigs over the last couple of weeks or the last month.

A couple of weeks ago I saw Alexisonfire with Rise Against. Alexisonfire like always were awesome, every song they played was brilliant. Highlight for me was 'Pulmonary Archery' which sounded amazing. Dallas Green has the most amazing voice, I would love to watch his accoustic set.
I don't know much Rise Against voice but fair play to the singer for being awesome after losing his voice the week before. Hearing 'Like The Angel' live for me was awesome, it's one of my favourite songs ever. The other stuff sounded great too but after Alexisonfire put on such a great set, it was hard for them to live up to it.

Then I went to the Victory Records tour which consisted of Aiden, The Black Maria and Silverstein.
Aiden have been one of my fav bands of the year and this was the first time they've played the UK so it was great to see them. Their new stuff sounded great and the songs I knew that they played were pretty cool too. Only bad thing was that the lead singer kinda can't hold a note live but he has a good stage presence that makes up for it. He wants to be Davey Havok though so much which is funny. I met some of the guys and they were pretty awesome.
Next were The Black Maria who kinda bored me apart from a couple of tracks towards the end of the set. Nothing really captured me and they didn't really have any presence on the stage so I went to the cash machine for a bit.
Last was Silverstein, I was really impressed. I had been told by a fried that they weren't too good live but I thought they were really good. They sounded so much better than they do on CD, which is amazing because I love 'When Broken Is Easily Fixed', alot more force behind the music on stage.
So overall a good night for 6 pound.

Last night was Hopesfall and Tsunami Bomb supported by My Awesome Complmatiion.

My Awesome Comp. were really good again, one of the best British bands out there. They seem to give it all live and the crowd got into them.
Hopesfall were up next and the sound was sweet. They started off with a few older tracks and I was really looking foward to the rest of the set. However the newer stuff kinda bored me, sounded really stereotypical and seemed to lack any passion. However when they played more older stuff I thought they were awesome apart from the lead singer who just seemed to stand there and stare into the background like he was going to kill someone whilst he had nothing to do. The lead guitar was sweet, really loved the sound. It's a shame that I couldn't see them before this new album was released.

Tsunami Bomb were awesome, I spent most the set staring at Agetnt M who is gorgeous. They played stuff off both their albums, once again I don't know the new album weel enough but the older stuff was great. The sound was pretty crappy for their set though, don't know what the sound gusy were doing but you could barely make out the guitar. 'Take The Reins' and ''20 Going On' were awesome live and the newer stuff is pretty cool too.

Next up is Armor For Sleep on Sunday :)

JJ Moore 05-24-2005 12:01 PM

Ummm, i think GWAR was my last gig, no it wasnt it was Isis, both ruled all...

El Vaquero de Infierno 05-24-2005 02:17 PM

I got Alabama 3 next week

Danny Electric 05-24-2005 02:54 PM

I was going to see them in Oxford because my mate has no one to go with and is a big fan of theirs but I can't afford it. Only song I really know is The Sopranos theme.

FakeLaser 05-24-2005 02:57 PM

Midtown, Plain White T's, Action Action and Rock Kills Kid

They all sucked except Rock Kills Kid and Midtown.

Might see Alkaline Trio soon.

Mike the Metal Ed 05-24-2005 03:40 PM

I saw a band called My Disorder at my local rock pub. Good Drowning Pool-esque band with a cover of Toxicity at the end. Nothing special though.

DaveWadding 05-24-2005 03:52 PM

I havent been to a gig since October :( and so many good gigs have come through but I was a) poor or b) it was impossible to get tickets :(

Tornado 05-24-2005 05:09 PM

Couldn't get tickets for them over here in the UK for love nor money.

LK 05-24-2005 06:53 PM

Saw Idlewild last month, awesome performance which far surpassed the last time I saw them.

Oasis next month at Hampden.

Danny Electric 05-25-2005 01:05 AM

How were Idlewild without the old guitarist?

Ska-Wars 05-25-2005 05:58 AM

Saw Big D And The Kids Table last month, they were brilliant even though the venue was only about half full.

XL 05-26-2005 02:04 PM

John Legend

Best live performer of the year hands down!

Danny Electric 05-26-2005 03:47 PM

Better than Right Said Fred :shifty:

Boomer 05-26-2005 03:52 PM

I saw Elevado last week. Quite an interesting band.

Fabien Barthez 05-26-2005 11:18 PM

i saw Nic Armstrong and the Theives tonight. They were fucking awesome. Me and my mate stormed the stage on the last song because we were talking to the drummer before the gig and he told us to. Everyone else followed us aswell. Then after the gig, everyone fucked off while we finished our beers and the band came back out to pack up and we were talking to Nic and the drummer again and we went to their dressing room and got drunk and stoned and now we are going to Nottingham to support them tomorrow night!

Fucked up night. Finally on the road to being a musician!.

Tornado 05-27-2005 01:35 PM

Might have just scored myself tickets to Green Day w/Taking Back Sunday, Simple Plan and Jimmy Eat World.

Also, my g'f just scored tickets to her 3rd Kaiser Chiefs gig..

Blue Demon 05-27-2005 01:47 PM

In the past month i have seen: Motorhead, Collective Soul, Tea Party and U2. On June 1 I'm going to see Sarah McLaughlan, Sept. 3 going to see Rolling Stones (With the Tragically Hip and OLP) and on Sept 14 seeing U2 again, Sept 16 seeing Pearl Jam

Danny Electric 05-27-2005 02:08 PM

My mates are going to that Green Day gig, the one at Milton Keynes.

Kane Knight 05-27-2005 03:03 PM

The Stone Coyotes with the opening act of Fancy Trash.

Kane Knight 05-27-2005 03:04 PM

Oh, and I sat in the audience listening to some local acts when I did a one-off gig with some old bandmates back from college.

Kane Knight 05-27-2005 03:12 PM

*rubs it*

Take that, Wadding.

The Icon of Elisim 05-27-2005 05:14 PM

Green Day and My Chemical Romance about a week and a half ago. Green Day were great, really good set list. MCR were better than I expected, I'd seen them on tv a couple times and they were awful but they sounded pretty good live.

Saw Sloan about 2 weeks ago, very good live. They aren't my type of music but they put on a pretty good show. The opening act was this all girl band that was hilarious. The bassist never changed her expression and always looked like an angry cheer leader. And the drummer played the same beat for every song and looked like she was spazing out the whole time.

Mr. Monday Morning 06-07-2005 12:52 PM

Saturday saw System of a Down supported by 80s Matchbox B-Line Disaster. 80s were pretty good, never heard them before, might check them out. System were fucking awesome  Played stuff from all the albums, played one song off the new album for the first time live (or so they said - can't remember which one, think it might've been Sad Statue) and it was just generally excellent. There really is nothing like being in the middle of like 2-3000 people pogoing in time.

Sunday saw Strapping Young Lad supported by Beecher :$ I say :$ because I thought the support were going to be And You Will Know Us By The Trail of the Dead - my mistake :$ Beecher were...interesting, I guess. SYL rocked the shit out of the place though, absolute non-stop (except for when Devin stopped to describe his cock or get confused for a moment and call London a country...funny shit  )

Good fucking weekend

Gertner 06-07-2005 01:52 PM

Saw Deep Dish, Nic Fanciulli, Adam Freeland, Dj Zinc a few weeks ago. gonna see Mark Oliver tommrorow and God himself- Ferry Corsten June 30th!!!

deathtrap 06-07-2005 02:31 PM

Alexisonfire's first album is fantastic, one of my favourites.

Watch Out! focuses far too much on Dallas considering the type of music we're used to. Accidents, Get Fighted and No Transitory (I bought one of the 750 coloured 7"s for this song ) are the only ones above good.

I hope they return to the style of the first album.

Going to Leeds Festival on the Friday.

Eunos 06-07-2005 05:35 PM

Last December: Fear Factory, In Flames and Lacuna Coil

Last February: Megadeth

Last March: Nine Inch Nails

Yesterday: Strapping Young lad

Still to come: Spiritual Beggers and Opeth.

Me and Gene Hoglan (SYL Drummer)

The Gooch 06-08-2005 07:06 AM

Not many bands coming through Ottawa in the last little bit. I did manage to see The Pixies last November and of course Mötley Crüe this February.

Got tickets for Def Leppard and Green Day this summer. Hoping to find my way into sold out U2 and the Rolling Stones shows. On the fence about picking up Black Eyed Peas tickets. My buddy suggest that I go see a band called Spearhead. He says they are great. I've never heard of them, but he does have good taste in music so I do trust him.

weather vane 06-08-2005 12:55 PM

Dr. Hook
Young Buck
Roy Young
Eric Burdon
George Thorogood
Charlie Washington and The Midnight Express

THIS WEEKEND: Rock The Fort - Trooper, Chillawack, Glass Tiger, April Wine, Toronto, Prism, Honeymoon Suite, Harlequin, Streetheart, Headpins, The Kings

Soon i'm going to see Brett Micheals of Poison and The Pink Floyd Experience

Danny you have an awesome taste in music. I'm a huge alexisonfire and hopesfall fan :y:

In April, Less Than Jake played at a local venue which was fucking awesome. Been almost 2 years since I've seen them live. Saw A Static Lullaby with Unwritten Law and Sum41 last month. Dredg was the week after.

Upcoming shows:

24 - Reel Big Fish
25 - Alkaline Trio / Rufio

Danny Electric 06-15-2005 07:47 PM

No way dude. I so want to see Dredg live, awesome stuff.
Love Rufio too.

Yeah bro. I've LOVED Dredg since Leitmotif and seen them about 6 times all at really small venues here in central NJ. They put on a fucking AMAZING show everytime. I actually got one of Dino's broken sticks and a couple set lists from 3 shows.

I've yet to see Rufio live, but I hear they put on a hell of a show too.

JJ Moore 06-15-2005 08:19 PM

Saw Fozzy and Megadeth last Friday

Danny Electric 06-15-2005 08:26 PM

I never got to see Rufio but my mate saw them last year and said they were awesome.
Dredg were or are touring around here soon but can't get tickets to see them. I was supposed to see them support Glassjaw a few years back but the tour got cancelled.

Deceit 06-15-2005 10:47 PM

I think I heard about that tour.

Speaking of gigs and Glassjaw, I'm really glad I got to see Glassjaw as much as I did when they were still around. Hopefully once Daryl's done touring with HA, we can expect the 3rd GJ :), though it will probably be even more watered down :(

Saw Trooper at a Canada Day concert in St. John's Newfoundland a few years back. I totally agree with you they put on an excellent show. They did a wicked cover of Weezer's Hash-Pipe. For some reason there was a lot of flashing boobies at the concert as well. Not sure why young girls would want to flash 50ish year old dudes, but whatever. Free boobies always make the grade.

weather vane 06-17-2005 01:41 AM

Hahaha they played Hash Pipe as their encore. I was leaving when I heard it. I was like :wtf:?

Zelda 07-11-2005 06:48 PM

Weezer and Pixies

Fabien Barthez 07-14-2005 10:11 PM

Saw Oasis 2 weeks ago and Joe Cocker last Saturday with Amy Winehouse supporting. Going to see Paul Weller again tomorrow.

But, Joe Cocker is by far the best person anyone has seen in this thread.

DegenerationY 07-14-2005 10:46 PM

Just won tickets to Kings of Leon from the radio station round here.

So I'm seeing them on Monday, then seeing Oasis/Jet in September.

Was supposed to see COC and Fu Manchu a couple days ago, but I had a stupid psych test the next day

Downunder 07-15-2005 07:36 AM

Saw Alice Cooper on 4th July

FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!

I saw him in '97 and this year was even better - it was quite honestly the best show I've ever been to.

El Vaquero de Infierno 07-15-2005 10:15 AM

I'd love go see Alison Krauss & Union Station in september, and see lacuna Coil in october, but they've sold out.

Looking for boobies. 07-28-2005 06:12 AM

Saw Anberlin last night!!! Bloody awesome show!

My mate and I actually got to meet the two guitar players, Joe and Stryer. The both of them were drinking Aussie beer and playing pool when they just started talking to us, while everyone else in the pub was doing their own thing. I mean, you just don't expect to be talking to people from a band you like, at such a small show. Joe actually talked us about his experiences with absinthe and how much he hates flying everywhere.

They played majority of the songs from "Never Take Friendship Personal" and some from "Blueprints for the Black Market".

I haven't been listening to them for too long, but recognised:

- A Day Late
- Paperthin Hymn
- Stationary Stationery
- The Runaways
- Time And Confusion

as soon as they started playing those songs. I'll give the show 9/10, and considering it was in a smallish area of a pub, only made it more better. They've nearly finished their Never Take Friendship Personal Australian Tour with Antiskeptic... so if any of you are from Australia and like Anberlin, or some live alternative music, go and see them!

Requiem 07-28-2005 06:13 AM

None recently, but on the 24th I'm probably going to see Disturbed.

JJ Moore 07-28-2005 07:31 AM

Was trygin to get Tickets to Opeth, next gig maybe Maiden, if not, Skid Row *suck without Seb Bach* and Behemoth and Nile etc.

Sickboy 07-28-2005 10:19 AM

I was at Tuska awhile ago

As for bands.....I saw a Green Day tribute band about 2 weeks ago :o

LK 07-28-2005 07:16 PM

Saw Oasis last month. Pretty awesome stuff. Support acts could have been better. Four support bands - first were some guys from Chicago who were not very interesting, second was the Stands who I didn't really like that much, then the Futureheads who were fucking awesome and then the Super Furry Animals who I found fairly boring. Then Oasis came on and just kicked ass. I was amazed at how well Lyla went over with the crowd.

You can still get tickets for the show at Ally Pally on Wednesday the 9th of November, go to www.seetickets.com

Ticketmaster might also have tickets for the Tuesday at Alexandra Palace and the Saturday before at Hammersmith Apollo, but I haven't checked since yesterday. If you want to get a ticket you better hurry, I tried to get tickets for the Hammersmith gig, but they sold out in 5 minutes, and the Tuesday gig appears to be sold out as well.

Nice... glad you had a good time. I want to go to the Warped Tour one day, but living in Australia, it makes it hard. I probably will eventually. :D

I definitely rate Halifax... just started listening to them now. They're good. :)
